I had several contractors contact me from Yelp, but Gentry Construction came in the cheapest for my DIY fix I needed. Last summer, I DIY'd a solar vent system for my unfinished garage, which seemed ok, but had small leakage in the early winter's rains last year, and then got worse as the heavier rains came recently. The first company quoted me a little over double Gentry's, so I was glad I waited for Dana to come out and take a look at it the following day and went with the cheaper estimate and with a 3 year warranty, whereas the other was 2. Plus he was able to send out his crew to take care of it the next day, even in the midst of rain, they worked and replaced shingles and did the job correctly. One guy spoke English pretty well, but his helper didn't seem to, and my Spanish isn't the greatest, so I wasn't going to try and make a fool of myself. Took a couple tries to understand sometimes, but eventually, I got the gist of what I did wrong, even though I thought I had followed the manufacturer's YouTube video correctly. Once I saw what the pros did, it made much more sense. This will be my last DIY roofing project, and I will just refer to the nice professionals like those at Gentry Construction to do the work. The guys that worked on my roof worked well and hard despite the rain, and luckily it wasn't too hard and intermittent. Shout out to all the hard working immigrant workers out there!! Recently, our pest control company noticed water in our attic coming in from our roof, near our chimney. I am so thankful they pointed this out to us, as we had no idea. Thus, my search to get this repaired began. I reached out to 4 different companies, all 4.8 stars and above, with reviews from 86 to 94. This quickly became a frustrating and confusing endeavor, and I wonder about some of these roofing companies. Dana from Gentry Construction was the first to come out. Dana didn't just check for the leak (which he located), he walked the entire roof. He provided details and pictures of the leak site and pointed out other areas that weren't yet a leak, but could be if we did not take action at some point. Of the other 3 companies...1 didn't find the leak. One didn't mention the leak, but wanted to put in a cricket system. The third found the leak, but never mentioned the fact that as a roofing company, they were not legally allowed to fix any dry rot. I found the latter out only when I pressed them about their estimate and what repairs they would do. This likely explained why all 3 companies were around $1k cheaper than Gentry. Needless to say, we went with Gentry Construction, and we couldn't be more pleased. His estimate was by far the most complete. He explained everything clearly and answered all my questions. There was a risk of rain, so naturally we were concerned. His guys came out on a Saturday to do the work, ahead of the forecasted rain. His team was on time, polite, communicative, and tidy. They met with me after the job and showed me pictures of all the work they did, including doing their best to match the paint around the base of the chimney. Additionally, they found 2 other small leaks and repaired those as well. I would not hesitate to use Gentry Construction in the future, and I am more than happy to write this review and recommend them to others. I would caution anyone needing a roof repair to be absolutely sure of what you're getting in the repair. As with my experience, they may not always be transparent about what they will fix, and not fix, even if you show them pictures of the leak before they do their inspection and estimate. When we purchased our late 1970's built home in 2024, we knew we would need to replace the gutters at some point soon. After budgeting for this and wanting to beat the forecasted heavy rain season this year we got some quotes. Dana was very responsive and Gentry was the only company to come out and take a look and give us a quote based on what we actually needed. Gentry's quote was fair and included a 10 year warranty! One company made an appointment and no showed and went silent. Another company gave us a lower quote for the same materials but only came with a 2 year warranty and they did not have insurance in the event they got hurt while doing the job on our property. Dana was knowledgeable and flexible in scheduling the job for the following week. There was constant communication on when they would arrive, what the length of time it would take and I didn't need to be home while they worked. The installers were pleasant and thoughtful, asking if we were good with the downspout placement of the current gutters or could they relocate the for better drainage. Which I deferred to their expertise and they relocated a few which does work better. Gentry is a family owned business and the care and respect for your time and budget showed and so did the quality of work. This review is several months late! Like from 3/18 ish. Sorry Dana and Jarardo! Let's get to it! So for the first time I used yelp vs being on the contractor side and it was a trip. I requested a quote from what I thought was 1 company and got blasted! Like it was insane. First caller was Dana! Dude was on it! Said they'd be out the next morning for the walk through and bid/ proposal. Next morning, promptly! Jarardo (Dana's son) was at the door, and ready. Young sir was super polite, let me give my spill (told him I had tiles and was gonna try myself, but no!). He heard what I had to say, then got to it. This dude walked the whole roof and came down to run through his findings. Look, I've been in construction my whole life, and when you know, you know. This man had the job before I got the quote. Anyway! He pretty much confirmed the mess I knew about and saw my Jerry rigging (it was a hot mess). I told him please use my tiles if you can if not all good, the man was the only one out of 4 companies to 1.) listen to me, 2.) offer preventive maintenance!! (Mind fn blown), 3.) grantee the whole roof. For 3 years! When this young man brought up walking the whole roof and would do the once over and make sure it's right so when we sale (wanna buy a home by Franklin high?) that we would be handing off our home with the know roof issues handled, guaranteed and the warranty transferred with new owners. Both Jarardo and Dana made me feel comfortable, confident, and I was damn sure the price was legit fair! Honestly, I had to ask to satisfy my cheapness, but I felt guilty for asking if they did cash discounts because the price was that good. They guys got here at scheduled start time (15-20 min early actually), waited till 7 before setting up. The lead walked me through what was gonna happen. Let me say this. They started at no where near where I thought the work would be. They literally unroofed my pad, like 4x what I thought was gonna happen! And had it all together before dark! No nails, cigarette butts, trash anywhere to be found. We opened our home for the bathroom and they left it spotless! Efren and Jose and I believe another helper killed it! If you work from home on demo/ install day you might wanna go into the office. It's a lot like a war zone on the roof for noise but that's what it is. They get it! And get at it hard. Very pleased! Gave their info to the whole block! Let's talk price! Being in construction I felt obliged to get a few quotes, I mean the phone wouldn't stop! Out of 4 companies they all except one where within $500 of each other. Not enough to matter if you ask me. One company I so wanna name drop but won't. Was a straight character! Didn't want to even walk the roof unless the job always $2800 or more, was worse than a car sales man and didn't listen to jack I said. I was clear I wanted everything fixed for the next owner(s). I've had a chimney that has had numerous leaks for years. I had repairs done by other Roofers but the leaks kept coming back. I called Gentry construction when once again this year it started to leak. Dana got back to me within minutes of contacting him and came out to take a look the same morning. I explained how the other roofers keep coming back each year and doing patches and telling me it was fixed but they never worked. He let me know what he thought the problems were with the previous work and explained how to properly fix it. Dana was very confident he would finally get this fixed for me and would do a 3 year warranty so I wouldn't have to keep worrying about this. Once I accepted the quote the work was scheduled for just a few days later. The workers showed up on time and did extensive work, answered any questions I had and cleaned up well at the end of the day. Gentry construction did a great job on our roof! Dana came out to give us an estimate and I appreciate how candid and straightforward he was with us. He encouraged us to get multiple quotes and explained how his contract works and what would be included. His quote clearly outlined how much it would cost per sheet of plywood, etc. if they had to replace those items once they pull up the tiles and see what's underneath. We ended up getting 2 more quotes and I had a family member who is a roofer on the east coast look over them. He recommended we go with Gentry based on what was included (materials, installation method, etc) and the 10 year workmanship warranty. Bonus, Gentry was the lowest quote! When I called to schedule it, they pulled the permit the same day and started within the week. The crew worked 7am-5pm and cleaned up well before they left each day. We had several parts of out fascia starting to rot and decided to get quotes on getting them repaired. Several companies came out, but we were most comfortable with Dana and his company. I really appreciated him educating me on roof and gutter maintenance. We had owned our home for over 20 years and were not aware of several of the things needing to be taken care of, which led to the areas of the fascia rotting due to water damage. His quote was more than reasonable, and he went over what the maintenance and repair would entail, including cleaning the roof dryer vent which I had no idea needed to be done. His crew was at our home for two days and they were exceptional. Gentry Construction rebuilt my rain torn flat top roof and I am so impressed about this company. From the start to the finish, they kept me in the loop and they replaced my ceiling in my dining room and painted the entire kitchen and dining room and installed new lighting in the area.
