The more recently Luke's Donuts is under new ownership and they have reshaped the donuts to a more reasonable size, not eye popping like old, but served with pride and a huge smile. I had just seen Donut Dip pop up in an online article as the best donut place in Massachusetts and so I had to stop. Donut Dip is an old school donut shop, a large selection of a wide variety of flavors are on display. The short line moved quickly and I ordered an Apple Fritter and a Chocolate topped custard stick for the road. The price was a bit higher than I expected but the donuts were big and looked great and I wanted some food for the road so I didn't have to stop. The Apple Fritter was good, however it seemed to be a bit light on actual apple piece and while tasty it just wasn't anything special. The Custard stick was excellent, the custard was rich and luscious which nicely balanced the perfectly fried donut, the topping was thick and chocolaty giving the donut an old school feel. Although I didn't have a long visit I would say that overall Donut Dip has very good to great donuts. The shop feels classic and if I was nearby I would love to try some of the other flavors. However, after my third bite, I felt something sharp in my mouth. Confused, I immediately took it out and realized it was a sharp, pointy piece of plastic that had been in my bowl. The manager saw me remove it from my mouth, so I went up to him and informed him about what I found. He didn't say anything to me directly and only spoke to his assistant who was making the bowls. I'm letting you know about this so you're aware of the situation. They may be using plastic blenders, which could have caused this to happen. I was told that I could only receive a refund for my bowl, after the fact that we paid 57 dollars for to be honest 3 sloppy bowls. My friend that introduced me to the place said he's been their many times and whenever the young man worked the back the bowls were sloppy like if he just threw things together.
