I have been going to Brookside Bagels for 20+ years. It was my favorite after school spot to grab a bagel and my personal favorite stop on my "Bagel Wednesday" travels. I have experienced all levels of customer service here but that is to be expected with many years of patronage. I prefer to order ahead online and grab my order from the shelf. I do also check the order as there have been a few times either cream cheese didn't make the bag or we were missing bagels. I love their cream cheese. something about it is so sweet and delicious. A cinnamon sugar bagel toasted with vanilla cream cheese is the ultimate. Easy parking. Right on route 10. I enjoy sitting outside in the summer time and watching the traffic while enjoying my bagel and schmear. read more

I just don't get the reason why people go here. Their bagels are below average, let's be fair. But the thing that always astounds me is how disorganized their service is. There were no fewer than 6 people behind the counter and it was not terribly busy. I ordered a toasted bagel with a side of plain cream cheese. It took 12 minutes. But what gets me is how many people who came in after me were getting their food. No, these weren't online orders. Also, you're a bagel place. You slice a bagel, throw it in the toaster. The speed on the conveyor should not be so fast that the bagel gets warm and not toasted. It's not like it got me out of there any faster that's for sure. Brookside used to be my go to for great bagel breakfast sandwich, but no longer. My wife and I were in recently. We arrived on a Sunday around 10:30 Am. The were sold out of most bagel variations, which wasn't that big of a deal as that is bound to happen. The big deal slowly started when we ordered two sausage egg and cheese sandwiches with southwest sauce. The person at the counter asked what kind of cheese we wanted and we both said cheddar and she then informed us they were out of all cheese except american. Not a huge deal, but a bit weird. It's one thing to run out of different bagel variations, but to run out of standard sandwich components? that was a bit annoying, but again, we could over look it because it appeared to be a busy morning. The big deal started to ramp up when we waited for 45 minutes for our two bagel sandwiches. With what appeared to be six people working behind the counter, that shouldn't have been the case, but again, busy morning, we could over look the wait. What made these small annoyances a big deal, which will most likely prevent me from getting food there again, was that when they finally brought out our order of two sandwiches and we bit into them no less than five minutes later they were cold. Please don't mistake what I'm saying. They were "freshly made" and weren't hot, weren't warm, weren't room temp, they were cold, and cold to the point that the melted cheese had re-solidified itself. So, overlooking the understanding lack of bagel variation, they had lack of component inventory ( which we weren't made aware of ahead of time, the two sandwiches took nearly an hour to make, and once they came out they were cold. read more

I've had Brookside Bagels before, but this was my first visit there that I remember. Brookside is located in an old house-type structure. There were a number of people sitting there at 9:45 on a Saturday morning. There seemed to be a decent amount of seating. Service was friendly and efficient. I had a sesame bagel with Veggie Cream Cheese. The bagel was very soft and lacked much chew. I know some people prefer this type of bagel, but I prefer a chewier bagel. The new owner is rude & discourteous. Instead of introducing herself to a loyal customer for 20 years with a smile and a handshake, she came out front and accused me of having free refills. She was mistaken. My first cup had hair in it so I dumped it out in the sink and poured another; the second cup was cold. To warm it up, I added a little more coffee. Her customer service skills are horrendous. I will be enjoying going to Lox, Stock & Bagels in Granby as their owner is delightful. I highly recommend them over Brookside. Good Riddance! read more

ordered sesame, egg, and cinnamon raisin bagels to serve guests over a long weekend. When I got home and emptied the bag, I was surprised to see poppy seeds in the egg bagels. When I toasted one, it smelled like an everything bagel. I called and was told the baker does put poppy seeds in the egg bagels. When I mentioned the everything odor, was told they also put onion in the egg bagels. Nothing on the website said anything about additional ingredient, which is harmful for a variety of reason, I will stick to Isaac's bagels, where I don't get unhelpful surprise. read more

This place operates in a manner that creates absolute chaos regardless of the time of day or how busy they actually are. Imagine waiting in line, placing an order, paying for it, and then waiting another 5 to 10 minutes for your bag of plain bagels to go. We're not talking about bagel sandwiches, or even bagels toasted with smear or butter, just plain bagels put in a bag to go. I've past this bagel shop many times and always said I need to try it out. Well a few weeks ago I made it happen. This shop offers a great variety of bagels and bagel sandwiches. I opted for a everything cheddar with egg white, cheese and bacon. When I received my order it was wrong. I brought my sandwich to the counter and they quickly corrected it. On top of correcting the issue they also gave me 6 free bagels. I explained it was ok and they didn't have to do that but they insisted. Overall the bagel was delicious and the customer service I received was great. I can see myself adding this place into my breakfast rotation. read more

I was visiting my hometown and stopped here Sunday morning. It was packed and for a reason. Plenty of parking.....and it seems some park across the street. Super fresh bagels. I ordered with very little wait. A toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese and coffee. Plenty of cream cheese on the bagel. I just wish it was more toasted. I should have mentioned it but it was definitely barely toasted. The coffee is self serve. Plenty of seating and a cute seating area with couches towards the back. Friendly staff. I remember when this place was Zablockis and I was looking for some history with the building and Ms. Zablocki owning it but I sadly did not see any history. Love this place BUT...pay attention to the total amount charged if paying by card! When the "tap" device was presented to me, I noticed I didn't get the normal tip screen, so I just tapped my phone/card. A few minutes later while enjoying our breakfast bagels, a notification of the charge popped up on my phone. the amount was about $10 more than I was expecting. I am not sure what happened here. Brookside used to make one of the best bagels in the area but they too have succumbed to non New York trend of fluffy bagels with no chew , a weak flavorless crust , lack of any real malt flavor and just plain boring. I guess this what happens when the the vast majority of customers seem to order their bagels toasted. None of the qualities of a really good bagel survive the torture of a toaster so why should they go through the steps to produce a really good bagel that can stand on its own. (Toasting a bagel to me is something you do with a 3 day old stale bagel to make it somewhat edible instead of throwing it in the trash). Getting a really good bagel is getting harder and harder in the area. Brookside gets good marks for customer service and their dedication to serving customers during the CoVID pandemic . read more

I absolutely love this place! Their bagels - Their bagels are always fresh and delicious! They do not have them currently but their maple bacon bagel was out of this world. My current favorite that I had yesterday was blueberry which I definitely recommend! I also enjoy their regular flavors such as sesame and everything. Safety - Due to Covid, we resort to curbside pickup which they have very easily managed on their website. You order and pay online, call when you get there and they bring it right out to you. The staff is friendly and don't make it seem like a hassle to bring it out to your car. Customer service - (My actual purpose to write this review) Yesterday we ordered 6 bagels but when we got home we noticed one single (the one sesame) bagel was missing! We called a few times and they must have been too busy because I couldn't get through, so we sent an email about what happened. We received a call back about an option for the bagel. We truly thought maybe we could just get a credit back for one bagel. They offered - no, insisted on delivering a dozen fresh bagels to our house! It's about a 15/20 minute drive on the Farmington side of Avon, but we were given a ton of sesame bagels, blueberry and more! We were truly touched, it made our weekend. One of the best bacon egg and cheeses in the area. I had a BEC on a jalapeño cheddar bagel and it was perfectly toasted with a generous amount of CRISPY bacon! So perfect. Brookside bagels came highly recommended from a local friend. Clearly there is a cult like following with many numbered signs on all the parking lot spaces. They must've had quite the business during Covid. I had been warned that there could be a very long line on a weekend but luckily it was not too bad when we got there. Brookside offers many bagel flavors and sandwich choices. I am still thinking about the absolutely delicious Nova Lox sandwich. I had it on a toasted "everything" bagle. The bagels are a perfect combination of super fresh chewy flavorful bread. There must be something in the water because the consistency was notable and I found them to be terrific. We got a dozen to go to take home. I love the fact that they gave me a Baker's Dozen. So cool! The take home Honey Butter was absolutely yummy I highly recommend keeping one of those in your refrigerator. As crazy as it sounds I really liked it on an everything bagel. The mixture of sweet and salty was tasty. There cheddar cheese bagels are ridiculously good, I'm so happy that one of the employees suggested that we get a few of their Everything Cheddar Bagels with our take home orded. I'm glad we did. Aside from the prices being way too high, some feedback regarding customer service. If you're going to offer curbside pickup, you need to be certain to get the order right. The store is understandably busy, but this is still not a major expectation for a customer when arriving for a pickup. Having to drive all the way back to the store because there were parts of the order left out should mean that the order is automatically free. That's the kind of customer service that handles the issue fairly and shows the store is more sorry than just offering a half-assed apology. There was no issue with my making the payment, so there should be no issue with the order being accurately fulfilled. Just bagels in a bag in this case, simple as can be. Of course, mistakes happen. I have seen this bagel shop many times bringing my son to school or picking him up and I have seen many reviews on it but I never had the time to stop well today I made it happen. It is a cute a breakfast and lunch shop with limited seating inside it was very clean and organized with a coffee section where you can basically create your own coffee. They had many many specials for lunch and breakfast, they had many different types of bagels and cream cheeses. I ordered an everything bagel toasted with regular cream cheese and a cappuccino. The Bagel was absolutely wonderful the cream cheese was amazing it was very fresh and you could tell the bagel and the cream cheese were made in house. The staff was very nice and considerate they were making sure everybody was taken care of because there was a bit of a line. The only reason I am giving it four stars is because my cappuccino did not come out as expected and that might not have been their fault ,they had a little bit of issues with a cappuccino machine , thankfully I wasn't running late. I don't think many people order cappuccinos they probably opt to make their own coffee which I will be doing next time, but I did make my cappuccino end off looking and tasting pretty good in the coffee area. Bagels are good but everything is so slow I waited 40 minutes for a taylor ham egg and cheese and my cheese was not even melted

Ive been coming here for years, used to be some of the best bagels around. Now they dont even care anymore. Ive been served half sized bagels, severely undercooked ones, and ones where a blob of cream cheese was thrown on and not even spread so it covered the bagel. They clearly don't care any more so I do not care to give them my business. Next time I'll go to Lox in Granby, worth the extra 10 minute drive. read more

The service is also quite slow, which is understandable when they have such heavy foot traffic...but not the place to go when you're in a hurry. The parking lot was full on the weekend but there was a healthy flow of people going in and out. A small place, there are some tables and a couch in the back. It doesn't seem that hard to find a table when lots of people are ordering to go but it is a bit cramped. There's also a few tables outdoors. The food itself is fantastic. I have never been disappointed. They deliver to a very small radius. I ordered delivery today, and due to the house nearby being the same number on the cross street, the food was accidentally and totally understandably delivered to the wrong place. Not only did they remake my order, but threw in some baked goods as an apology. They were super nice and professional. Definitely recommend. One way I measure the years I've lived here is the proliferation of certain types of food establishments. Pizza, bagels, Asian food, hamburgers and frozen yogurt joints come to mind immediately. Brookside Bagels has been around ever since I can remember. They have survived the test of time and have become a popular and beloved institution on Hopmeadow Street. They have like 18 different kinds of bagels. When my kids were real small, we used to get bagel sticks for them here. The have all kinds of cream cheeses and get bonus points for stocking a salsa jalapeno variety. Breakfast sandwiches with eggs, deli sandwiches for lunch, wraps, gyros, salads, anything you want. The bagels are wonderful- chewy, with great taste and as fresh as can be. They are smaller than the gargantuan types you see at other places, but that's fine with me. Service is provided by an army of friendly and smiling high schoolers. It gets pretty crowded here in the mornings, as the commuters line up for their bagel and coffee before heading into Hartford. They have quite a few tables and chairs, so you can sit and relax if that's your preference. Just be aware that they close at 4 every day. read more

After four years of ordering bagels for dorm feeds at my daughter's high school, we're here for lunch. The interior is homey, warm and full, so we're on the shaded patio, which is pleasant but adjacent to a very busy main street. The bagels look and smell amazing. This is a time to really feel for people with gluten issues because there's no way these rich, plump gems wouldn't hurt for at least a week if I were foolish enough to eat one. I'm not, so I'm enjoying the show, which looks amazing. It's not a super efficient counter ordering to food pick up service, but it's charming and the foods looks delicious.
