Yea, I absolutely hated this place. Sorry, I was supposed to start with the positive. The ONLY positive was that the food was good! Bagel was a little dry, and paying $1.50 for cream cheese and only getting it on one side of the bagel, whack! Anyway, I tried Stevie's for the first time today and I was very optimistic. As soon as I walked in, I noticed three employees backstage (yes, backstage while I was waiting on someone to come centerstage and actually work, they were just prepping), not one of them was at the cash register, ready to take my order, and no one even greeted me as I stood there for almost a minute. Now granted, one girl was clearly making an order, there was a guy on the phone, so there was only one possible employee that could have been at the register.. instead she was walking back and forth behind the bagels doing nothing. I watched her scratch her head and pat her scarf like she had just rolled out of bed! She intentionally avoided even looking toward the register, and seeing as how there's a bell on the door, I'm sure she knew I was there! Anyway, she finally, but slowly saunters toward the front, but stops at the girl making a sandwich to ask, "is she waiting for something?" I'M WAITING FOR YOU, GIRL!!!! WTF!!! I started to leave right then, especially after she looked dead at me, before asking the other girl was I waiting for something! She walks up "are you ready to order?" I started to leave again, because who greets a customer like that?! I said, "HI. GOOD MORNING." She stared at me like "I already greeted you when I asked if you were ready to order." At this point, her sour demeanor and nasty unprofessionalism have taken my mood from pleasant to irritated. As I stared at the menu with no prices. I asked what types of cream cheese they had. The other girl from backstage happened to be walking by the cash register and she points to a print out. With all the thousands of overhead, up top, beneath, and side menus, text, words, fonts, and colors everywhere I had missed it. The girl standing there like I interrupted her nap, says "Yea it's right there, I didn't realize you couldn't see it." SMART ASS!!! I said, I'll get the garlic & herb on a spinach bagel. She rings it up. It says sun-dried tomato cream cheese on the small screen, I ask her if that's a mistake or if it rings up that way? (I am allergic to tomato, so I MUST ASK.) She says nothing, but instead prints out the ticket, where she shows me her note at the bottom, "sub garlic & herb" she then says "I heard what you said, you're right here, I just had to ring it up that way because there's no button for garlic&herb." I tell her that it didn't show her note on the payment screen, so I just wanted to make sure. Her attitude is literally making me sick!!! It's so unneccsarily sarcastic and nasty for no reason!! If I wasn't hungry and on a time crunch, I would've found another, cleaner, more pleasant and professional place to get a bagel. I spent over $10 on a meat-less bagel with less than a spoonful of cream cheese. smh. If I owned this place, I would do a complete renovation, deep clean, and fire the entire team and rehire people that will at least have some sense of customer service, professionalism, and sanitary food handling skills. I won't be back, which is a shame, because that was a damn good bagel. read more

First time visiting Steve's Bagels and I had a great experience. One thing to note: the in-store menu doesn't list prices, but everything was very reasonable. You can also check their menu online. I ordered the NY Classic and a homemade banana nut muffin; both tasted fresh and delicious. I also tried two frozen smoothies, passion fruit and mango piña colada, and they were very tasty. For pickle lovers, they currently have a Steve's Long Island pickle sandwich on the menu, which looked like a fun and unique option. They have a self-service coffee station and a full staff working the floor. Since it was my first time, the staff was very helpful and gave suggestions on things to try. Even though it was busy; with a mixed crowd dining in and phone orders constantly coming in; the line moved quickly and I didn't wait long at all. They even brought the food to where I was sitting. You can see straight into the kitchen, which looked very clean and organized. I also noticed they're active on social media, which is nice to see from a local business. I've been a regular at the "other bagel shop / chain" in the area for many years. I'll say it - Steve's bagels ARE better! They are big and soft and fluffy versus compact and dense. BUT...they're approximately 50% more expensive for their bakes! $23 per dozen versus $16! I still prefer them, however and I'm a frequent bagel person. We freeze them and then toast for bfast. The restaurant is small and simple. I can only comment on the bagels because I came here for a dozen and room them home. 4stars for the bagels (prefer NYC / NJ - different water makes better bagels and pizza crust) and I won't detract for being so much more expensive than your local competition (Between The Rounds). read more

My favorite bagel place, hands down! Everyone I've ever introduced to this spot has been won over. Hearty portions, you'd swear your baba shmeared the generous portion of cream cheese herself, no holding back here. The bagels are the ideal combination of chewy with a crust to die for. I had my jalapeño cheddar toasted, they even held it up prior to shmear to confirm that it's not too dark, who goes to such levels of service anymore? I got The Mark sandwich which came with corned beef hash on it and I had the garlic bagel with scrambled egg, cheddar cheese, and hot sauce. My sandwich was absolutely delicious!!! It was dense and very flavorful! And came with a pickle which was nice! I also liked that they had their own coffee bar section to make yourself! :) However, the service and ambiance of the inside was lacking unfortunately... staff seemed unhappy and the biggest issue I had was the prices were not shown on the hanging menu. After going to many bagel shops in my time, this bagel shop is actually one of the better bagel shops in the state. More akin to the New Jersey bagels I've grown accustomed to, they have a little chew while remaining soft on the inside. The flavors were pronounced and baked into each dough ring I tried. Its bakery items are okay, the breakfast meats and eggs are cooked but rarely seasoned, it's really good for the bagels though. Inside is still a labyrinth to navigate, but it does have seating both indoor and out. It's very good bagels though, so it's good if you're in the mood for a good bagel read more

This location is listed as closing at 2 PM. I placed an UberEats order at 12:34 PM. At 12:37 PM, I was prompted to substitute an unavailable item, which I did. The order was then accepted and marked as "being prepared." At 12:39 PM, I called the store simply to add a note to my order. I was told the grill was already off and that no additional orders could be completed. This was confusing, as the store was still active on UberEats and accepting orders -- despite most menu items requiring the grill. There is also an option to mark items as unavailable, which clearly was not done. I was then told the store was closing early due to holiday hours and that my order would be canceled. After waiting over 15 minutes with no cancellation, I checked the app and saw a driver had already been dispatched and was en route. When I called back, I spoke with a different employee who was dismissive and rude, stated she could not cancel the order, and told me I needed to do it myself, despite the fact that canceling on my end would have resulted in a charge and is usually not available once the order is accepted. The only assistance offered was "call Uber." Uber eventually canceled the order, but this situation should never have escalated to that point. My money was tied up, I received no food, and a driver wasted time traveling to a store that had no intention of fulfilling the order. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated experience. Ever since the Center Street location closed, service at this location has steadily declined. Each time I decide to give it another chance, there is almost always an issue. Between inconsistent operations, poor communication, and rude customer service, I am increasingly unlikely to return. I hope management takes these recurring issues seriously and addresses both operational communication and customer service. read more

I had seen Steve's from the street, but had never stopped in. I ordered a sesame bagel toasted, with plain cream cheese. The bagel was of a good size and the cream cheese was plentiful. Excellent bagel taste and consistency. Coffee (I got the breakfast blend, which was good) is reasonably priced for a place like this and you can get your own refill at no extra cost. There are essentially no prices listed for any of the food, so unless you ask, you don't know what you'll be paying. I'd return because the bagels are excellent and coffee reasonably priced. We have stopped by two weekends in a row for their bagels, specifically for the jalapeño cream cheese, which has been the best I've tried. Their jalapeño cream cheese is actually spicy and has the sharp sourness from the pickling. Absolutely perfect! Their bagels have a nice chew to them and offered more dimension than just breast--the outside was crisp and the inside was fluffy yet chewy. I will say the prices are a bit high as in total, each bagel and cream cheese came to around $5 so for my boyfriend and I, we easily spent $15 on two bagels, a small coffee, and a strawberry milk. Okay so I came here when I was getting my windshield fixed next door at safelite and I needed to take a zoom call.. anyway they are right next door and it was convenient. Left around 12:30 and LEFT MY COFFEE MUG. It's one of those stainless steel thermoses and I went right back (arrived back maybe 25 mins later) and the manager told me she put it right behind the counter. Long story short but they couldn't find it and I was upset and she took my #. I ended up messaging the business on google chat & the owner replied back the same day. Went back and forth with the owner and then I called back the next day and spoke to the manager -- Holly-- & she promised they would send me a new one if it didn't turn up. It did turn up and 3 days later I went back and retrieved it. Fully intended to buy something when I was there... I picked out a chocolate m&m cookie and the gentleman working the register told me to take another one and they wouldn't take payment & idk usually I would insist but actually I appreciated this just because this particular coffee shop was kinda far from home. Loved the coffee & my first time there... I loved the mango smoothie. Below average breakfast sandwiches and bagels for the price and they did not toast the bagel when asked. No prices posted for anything on the menu makes sense, because it's $10+ for a breakfast sandwich (bacon, egg and cheese) from powdered eggs... crazy. Overall, eh. These bagels are solid. They definitely don't taste the same as real NYC bagels, but I suppose we don't have the NY water here. That being said, they're probably the best bagels in the Vernon/Manchester area, though there isn't much competition. I live locally and have been here in maybe 4 times in the last two years. This place does good business though. When I arrived at 8am, there was a steady stream of people coming and going. Lots of local employees and people in work clothes stopping in. By 8:05am on a Friday, there was only 2 French toast bagels left. I highly recommend them, but I guess you need to come early! They were also out of blueberry and cinnamon raisin. They have some unique bagel flavors - lots of cheese based ones: Asiago, cheddar, maybe a Parmesan, some kind of jalapeño with cheese. There are probably 10 flavored cream cheese options too. I've had a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel a few times. The everything bagel had the "everything" on both sides which is a nice touch. A few years ago, the bacon pile on it was a mountain. It really felt like an impressive sandwich. My most recent bagel had just the normal amount. My biggest gripe is that the prices aren't listed anywhere on their menu. The price slot is just blank for every single item. And the prices aren't cheap. I paid about $11 after tax for a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel and a untoasted, no topping bagel to take home for later. The breakfast sandwich was okay - nothing to write home about. It didn't feel like I was getting a $9 sandwich. I couldn't even tell if the bagel was toasted and even though I ate it about 1 minute after they bagged it up, the bagel was soggy from the steam. Each time I've been in, the staff always seems a bit uninterested in interacting with customers. They chat and laugh amongst themselves a lot but are a bit brusque with customers at the counter. They're busy, which I understand, but a smile and offering information about a menu item's price when asked goes a long way. There is some limited seating inside and a cooler with cold drinks. They also sell muffins and some dessert items, but again, who knows how much they are. It's not really the sort of space you bring your laptop too and work, but it did appear there were some regulars in there talking to one another at different tables. There are also picnics tables outside. Overall, it's fine. If you need bagels, it's a decent place. But I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. I am extremely dissatisfied. This was my first time ordering from this place. I did an online order to pickup between work and I decided on a breakfast quesadilla. The description box listed the ingredients and I thought they sounded yum. In the description it asks that you specify your type of meet so in the comments I stated bacon. I finally get to digging in and it looks nothing of what I ordered... pretty upset that I paid 15 dollars for a tortilla, an egg, some hot sauce and sad slices of cheese with this spread that I did not like. I then go look to ordering again so I can see what went wrong here and it says to pick your wrap. "Garlic and herb" was a choice of flavor for the wrap. Really enjoyed my bagel sandwich! Got "The Spud" on an everything bagel and it hit the spot. The bagel was perfectly soft and chewy and the hash brown was crispy! Think it could have used hot sauce which I'd get next time. TLDR; don't waste your time and money here. I've been to the other location a handful of times, and this one once. My experiences have been consistent. I have been back purely because location made this the only option. Staff is rude and lost, items get left out of orders, poor attention to the work being done and customer needs, and online and call in orders are pushed aside for walk-in customers. While the bagels are very good, and bagel sandwiches have solid portions, everything else is rather shit. Wait times are downright absurd. Especially if you order online for pick up. I used to place my order (bagel sandwich +coffee) before leaving my house for work, with 20 min to arrive at Steve's, then still have a 10-15 min wait after arriving. I was once told by a staff member who seemed to be a supervisor, that they prioritized customers who walked in to pick up, which sounds like my order got pushed back every time someone else walked in. What is even the point of offering online or call-in orders? Today, I ordered online, and walked over; total time between placing and receiving my order was 45 min. For a bagel sandwich and two hash browns. After 45 min, I actually got up to ask for an update. Kid at the counter seemed a bit confused, couldn't find my order until someone else located it. This other person told him, by the register, that they had only just put the sticker on the bag "a couple minutes ago," but seemed to be pointedly avoiding eye contact with me. Why did it sit for "a couple minutes" without being called out? When I was able to sit and eat it about 10 min later, I found the sandwich had been wrapped with the paper inside out. So the bagel half on the bottom was totally soggy, and any juices dripping out (I got it with tomato), was running all over the place on the shiny side of the paper, nearly spilling out onto my table. Also, while I waited, I witnessed another customer bring her order back to the counter because of a hair in the food (and I think also missing an egg). About 10 min later, the staff member that took it came back, and handed her a styrofoam box. Except the customer looked at it, asked, "is that the same box? The hair is still right there!" The staff member looks, says something like, "oh, I didn't know it had a hair in it," and walks away with it again. Wtf lol. Mind you, there were at least 6-7 people working behind the counter during this time. They can't possibly be short staffed. And, again, this type of experience has been consistent through every visit I've made to these stores. Oh, also, the menu boards hung in this store have all prices whited out. I stopped by Steves bagels for the first time today while I was waiting for my windshield to be fixed next-door. I can definitely agree with some of the other reviews about the staff. Although the employee that helped us was nice, the rest of the staff looked miserable. I noticed that the menu board had no prices on it, which was a turn off. I knew that meant that the food was probably overpriced, and it was. We waited about 10 or 15 minutes for our order and it was very hot. Our order had home fries, and they were hard. The employees here are all so hardworking. Chy deserves the world, such a sweet person. The owners need to switch some settings in the POS system though to enable tips when paying with card, for whatever reason there isn't that option and hardly any people carry cash. I love the bagels here but......customer service is horrific. First if you try to call in an order it's nearly impossible to get a hold of someone. You call and are placed on hold and they never come back to you. If you happen to get an order in and go to pick up your stuff you need to wait in the regular line because even though in the Vernon location they have a pick up window they will completely ignore you. I called today at 10 am on my phone and was in hold for 16 minutes before my husband called on his phone. He immediately got a hold of someone to take his order and proceeded to tell them that I have been on hold for over 16 minutes at this point and they never picked up. Nothing no apologies or even a bogus excuse. The staff at both locations seem like they don't even want to work there. They seem so put off just taking your order. It's too bad that the owner doesn't look at these reviews because he's losing customers because of his rude workers. I will not be going back here. I'm giving a star for the convenient location. I walked in this morning after dropping off my car for an oil change nearby. No one greeted me or made eye contact from behind the counter for a minute or two. I tried to find prices written anywhere but there are NONE. I asked for a multigrain bagel ($1.39) and scallion cream cheese ($2.39) and when I saw the price I asked if it's true that the cream cheese costs more than the bagel. The reply was" I don't make the prices". Rude. I asked how much would butter on a bagel be, and the answer was, another $1.50. I declined and asked for just a bagel and coffee.
