I settled on one of the few bagels left, an egg and cheese on a toasted bagel. The bagel was served burnt so it's difficult to say how good they might be, but my first impression was there was nothing to write home about! I have had supermarket bagels that were more appealing. This was a solid 4 experience. I was not disappointed. After reading all the reviews - I guess I could have been. Stopped in 15 min before they were due to close (12:45 pm) on a Thursday. I happened to be in Avon shopping and wanted a quick bite. I love bagels. They are life. Always looking for a new authentic (small business) bagel place so this caught my eye. There were 4 people working. A man (the owner perhaps) was super friendly. The 2 girls behind the counter were also super friendly - didn't rush me at all despite it being almost closing time. I agree with others that it's a tad pricey but I got a bagel sandwich and seltzer for just over $12. I'm not sure you can get anything cheaper these days. I had a tomato basil bagel toasted with tuna, prov, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. There was really nothing I could complain about. Everything was really tasty. Easily the worst bagel I've ever had. It is so bad I can only describe it as insulting. If I actively tried to make a worse bagel I would fail. It is doughy and flavorless. Whoever owns this place should be embarrassed. To make matters worse, at 10am they were sold out of just about every kind of bagel. I went in with the intention of buying a dozen and left with two. I would maybe give them a pass if they had been nice at all, but the woman was absolutely nasty to me for no reason whatsoever. I stumbled upon this place while looking for a quick breakfast. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly gentleman behind the counter. He was lovely to chat with and genuinely cared about the customers. This is probably the only place left in CT where you can get a quality bacon egg and cheese for less than $5! Something about their cream cheese makes this a top-tier bagel spot; it's so soft and melty as opposed to other places that use big generic tubs of cream cheese. Omg... I was craving a plain bagel with strawberry whipped cream but this was way better than expected. The bagel was fresh and perfectly toasted. I'm not in Avon often but I had an early appointment and wanted a good breakfast sandwich. I wanted to try a local place instead of a chain. I did like their variety of offers to suit my needs. Since I often track what I eat 80% of the time. I liked that they offered healthy selections and can gut out a bagel to minimize the carbs. I understand that COVID change a lot of things for everyone but when I walked in I didn't feel greeted as a welcomed customer. She wasn't helpful and seemed to have a bad morning but I remained cheerful. I tried their sesame bagel with egg whites, salsa and avocado. It was in the blander side in my opinion. The avocado could of used just a little bit of salt and black pepper to compliment the eggs to balance the salsa. Overall an OK experience but I don't think I will be returning. read more

Cashed in our Living Social "$5 gets you $10" deal for breakfast today. We decided on the same thing -egg whites and ham on a multi-grain bagel. Oops- they didnt have 2 multigrain bagels left- and it was just 8:30 in the morning? A vast selection of bagel types is only effective when you actually have them available to sell. The breakfast sandwiches were good- hot, fresh, and delicious. The interior of the store was very nice, as were the personnel, and the selection of sandwiches, wraps, and salads. The Snickerdoodle coffee was good, the cinammon coffee was weak. Oh -the take-out coffee cup came with a very nifty plastic top, the style of which I had never seen before. It had a plastic tab that you could slide, and it simultaneously covered and uncovered the little drinking hole. LOL- it doesn't take much to amuse me. All in all, a very solid place. read more

On a whim of wanting a bagel, I drive by this place nearly daily and usually the mood strikes after they are closed, naturally. So this morning my husband pipes up with wanting a pre ride bagel, well I'm down... so I'm getting The Bagel Chalet bagels! I get there this morning, mildly busy but very efficient and quick turn around times, with a plethora of flavors and combinations available. I ordered the garlic bagel with cheddar jalapeño spread, my husband had the cinnamon raisin with strawberry, both excellent bagels. Soft and chewy but crunchy and soooo perfectly flavored!!! I also impulsively grabbed a few other bagels and some cream cheese to go. I'm currently kicking my self for not buying some of the jalapeño spread that stuff is just delightful and I'd probably eat everything dipped in that!!! I am so glad I tried this place and you will be too!! They also have plenty of parking and a large menu of sandwiches and coffee! read more

Sometimes, it's good to go back to places a few more times. You discover things. And Bagel Chalet has definitely grown on me. First, the owners are super nice. They're promoters in town and helpful. Then the coffee. Delicious locally brewed and always hot. My wife loved their cinnamon coffee so much she asked for the recipe too. And the bagels? Well, they're not my favorite but they have grown on me. And the bagel sandwiches are fresh and better than some others. A cooked egg (not microwaved) helps. Now, count me a convert. Furthest thing from a New York Style Deli. Let me explain, If you call yourself the Bagel Chalet and you have the words New York on your sign, then the Bagels should be New York style. These bagels are not New York Style. If you took a Kaiser roll and a real NY bagel, the consistency of these is somewhere in the middle. They do not have the slight crunch that a NY Bagel has. They were not likely boiled in a slightly alkaline bath before being baked as is the treatment that all NY bagels receive. They make their own cream cheese which is less firm and they slap it on thick so I needed about 10 napkins to get through my sesame bagel. Bagel with Lox and Cream Cheese should actually be called Bagel with Lox Cream cheese as I was hard pressed to find any Lox and when I did I could not taste it because of the glob of runny cream cheese. Did it taste terrible? No. Was it NY style anything? No. Did I stop at Brueghers bagels on my way home? Yes. read more

Delicious bagels with a smile. The staff is very nice and attentive and the food is delicious. Zero complaints and only compliments to them. Some weird items that need to be addressed with the management, however: the $7.50 minimum on credit cards when a coffee and a bagel run less than that. Their boss makes them hassle customers when you dont hit the minimum - yet will still run your card. Raise your prices or drop the minimum to below what 90% of your customers will spend. It's a nuisance and keeps me from coming in because I don't carry cash. The sign on the door is tacky. don't bring in outside coffee because they have Omar coffee. please leave starbucks outside... thats fair, no outside food or drinks. The problem is they brew their coffee so weak and its not good. I can see why people would want bring their own and obviously has happened. Ok rant over. Go get a bagel! read more
