    Sourdough with veggie cream
    Jason P.

Fancy Bagel Xpress ("FBX") is popular in CT Bagel World. I've been to the Southington Fancy Bagel, but my first trip to The X was today. I'm a fan. FBX is a small shop in the middle of a residential area. Talk about a plot twist. I was expecting it to be in a business area. There was a short line when I walked in on Saturday around 9:45 am, and several people were waiting for their orders. They managed the line and backlog well, and I never felt like we were waiting an unreasonable time given their obvious popularity. I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese on a toasted Sesame as my primary bagel, but I had to order a sourdough bagel with veggie cream cheese as well and had part of that. Veggie cream cheese is one of the ways I compare bagel places. My SEC was very good. The bagel had a load of sesames. The bagel had good chewy texture. The sausage and American cheese were very good. FBX had a different take on the egg than most places. It's as if they made a thin omelette style egg and then wrapped it around the sausage. This worked well, but I'm partial to a fried egg with a touch of yolk run. I've never made this observation about a bagel before, but the sesame bagel seemed like it had a below average amount of salt in the dough. It was still good and I suspect this was a one off thing since I didn't notice this with the Sourdough bagel. Also, the salt from the sausage and cheese helped balance this anyway. The Sourdough bagel was also very good texture wise. If we're all food snobs about certain things, one of mine is veggie cream cheese. I knew I was in good shape as soon as I saw the color of FBX's VCC, which was a very pale yellow green. The cream cheese was uniformly smooth, but it was obvious that fresh herbs and other veggies had been blended in. Dill stood out as a flavor. FBX had a different style of VCC, and it's the first new attention-grabbing VCC I've had in a while. Fancy Bagel Xpress is deservedly a well loved Bagel Shop. My iced coffee was also good. They even have smoothies. 4.5 Stars

Wow. Color me impressed! I'm very selective about my bagels and I can firmly say Fancy Bagel Xpress just got added to my very short list! Between the cream cheese and bagel lineup and the bomb sandwich we didn't know what we wanted more! They also had amazing smoothies. Still thinking about that strawberry pina colada! We had a great experience with a great staff and a cool space. Outside seating is available, but be aware inside is pick up only! This is a must stop!

Asked for butter and bacon on my sandwich and they put the bacon in a bag, go to the queen street location.

One visit to Fancy Bagels, and I have to say these are some of my new favorite bagels in the state! This is the first Fancy Bagels location I've visited, but I like how this one is tucked away in a residential area. They have some tables outside to eat at, so we had a peaceful morning as we enjoyed our bagels. The sweet and savory options we had were all delicious, but something that really stood out to us was the green pepper jelly. It was so yummy on the ham egg and cheese! There's a great variety of bagel and cream cheese flavors to choose from, but you'll definitely want to go early to get the bagels you want before they're picked over. I already look forward to my next opportunity to visit Fancy Bagels!

love the mural. my camera isn't the best & doesn't show the nice colors too well but it 's cute. :)

if i could give more then 5 stars, i definitely would. 5++++ I live in Tucson, AZ. i went to fancy bagels xpress while visiting my MIL who is at the Mulberry Gardens in Plantsville. loved it!!! it may be a small place but it's big on giving great customer service. the food is delicious and the prices are very great! i had the pleasure to meet & be helped by Natalie. we had a great conversation about the song that was playing, 9-5 movie, which she was happily singing to. :) her smile is contagious & made my day for sure . i am a stickler when it comes to customer service & she didn't disappoint me at all. it's obvious she loves working there & it shows. she made sure to say goodbye to me & used my name. the next day when i went for my bagel with eggs, she greeted me by name. :) they have a program where you pay for a bagel or bagel & drink ahead of time, for anyone who doesn't have the $ to pay. they put a coupon up on the board & distribute it that way. they follow the golden rule of "pay it forward", just like the movie. i always support the local business wherever i go. it's the only way they will stay open. i wish i lived nearby cause i'd be going alot. if you haven't tried it, do so. you'll be so glad you did. thank you to Natalie & cooks in the back for an excellent job. KUDOS to you all. a message to the owner: these people are keepers. especially with the kind of customer service that's out there in this world, which isn't always the best. you are very lucky to have them. thank you for having this establishment in this small town. my husband use to go, as a kid, when it was Joe's Grocery store. he grew up on old turnpike rd. may you all have a wonderful day & week. when i return i will go again & again. please let them know about this review. thank you. :)

Best bagels in CT. Pictured below is a BEC on a golden and a cheddar bagel with cream cheese. Some of my other favorites they have are: Asiago, Double Cheddar, and wheat. Nicest owners and staff too!!

The food today was great as usual. The cashier was perhaps having a bad day. She seemed like us ordering was ruining her day.

It's very rare to find a place that does this. I was excitedand ordered two grinders. One was the Lucky Luciano and the other was the Sicilian. The. Lucky Luciano is a vegetable base with provolone cheese. It was thinly sliced provolone cheese, two slices on the entire grinder. Unfortunately, due to the marinated mushrooms and marinated eggplant. The bread was pretty soaked. I think if they used more cheese as a barrier, this sandwich could've been better. The Sicilian is basically an eggplant Parmesan. I did not care for this in Parmesan however it is edible. The eggplant was sliced, extremely thin that you could barely taste it. Instead of using melted mozzarella, there was one hunk of fresh mozzarella on the sandwich. I did feel that the prices were pretty expensive however, I probably would try the vegetable sandwich again if I eat it in person and ask them to put extra provolone around the bread . A lot of the reviews people love it here so I might try some other sandwiches however I don't eat meat so these were the two sandwiches I was interested in.

We couldn't wait to come back. Several months later on our second visit, we arrived well before their posted closing time - 9pm. It was around 7:45pm, the lights were on, but the door was locked and the staff seemed to be cleaning up. One of them looked up, saw us standing at the door and then went back to doing whatever they were doing without bothering to engage with us. It was incredibly frustrating having driven almost an hour with the expectation of getting some delicious food, only to be ignored by staff at a time when they were supposed to be open. Many months later (giving them the benefit of the doubt that the early closure on our last visit was a fluke) we made the trip up again. We arrived to find the place was locked up and dark - again during a time when they were supposed to be open. Today I was with some friends and we stopped to have lunch at Smokin' With Chris next door. During our meal, I mentioned my past experiences with The Lab, but also said how good the food was. So, we walked over to look at the menu and possibly pick up dinner for later that evening. It was around 1:30pm, the lights were off and the door was locked. I double-checked their website, and they were supposed to be open at 11:30am. While I was on my phone, an employee came up, unlocked the door, turned on the lights and began his shift - two full hours after they were supposed to be open! WTF?! Apparently, the owners of The Lab seem to believe that their food is so epic that they can just operate their business whenever they like regardless of their posted hours. This total lack of consideration for their customers is beyond insulting. It's really too bad because the food is good, but not good enough to offset the unprofessional manner the owners are running (or in this case, not running) this place. There are way too many other great dining options available nearby that actually adhere to their posted hours to put up with this nonsense.

I walked in and from first glance, you can tell it is a staple type establishment for those within the community of Plainville. A spot that folks love to hit up in the mornings and for lunch to get their day started and to keep it going. I always can appreciate a good home-style vibe. Jim's had a few patrons inside, all having conversations with the ladies behind the counter that were making food and then the gentleman at the register as well. I will say that when I walked up to the counter, one lady looked at me as if I had a third eye, scoffed and walked away but I didn't think much of it for she may have been having a bad morning....moments later the other Woman said, "What do you want?" in a questionable tone but again, I digress for they both looked flustered. I placed an order and simply walked to the register and proceeded to grab a few more items for my review. I started off with the Pastrami Reuben on hardroll. The roll was toasted for that crispy factor and the pastrami itself, was good. You really can't go wrong when the cut on the pastrami is just right and it has a nice cut about it. The sauerkraut was ok, nothing major to write home about to be honest and it had a nice savory sauce with some Swiss cheese that. complemented the sandwich. Moving along to their macaroni salad! The mayo was tangy, and the red onions drew in the flavor profile rather nicely. It was seasoned with pepper as well and with the macaroni cooked to near perfection, you couldn't go wrong here. Now their Bacon, Egg and cheese on a hard roll left much to be desired. More BREAD than egg and bacon....You could barely see it from the side, let alone taste anything. I was sadly disappointed in their excuse for a breakfast sandwich. It lacked style, ingredients and flavor. This brings us over to their Apple Crisp! Fresh apples, cinnamon and granola goodness that made up for the horrible breakfast sandwich. Each bite of the crisp sent harps my way to play me a melody of tasty treats. Not too bad but between their. questionable customer service and my breakfast sandwich, I can only give Jim's an overall score of 3.5.
