I found the place in a social media and decided to try is. The bagel is as good as the ad, delicious and hot. By the time i got there all the plains ones were gone, so i decided to try the onion one. It seen is one of the most popular ones. The place is tiny and is better to carry out your order. The gentlemen in the counter were as friendly and attentive as you going to find in a small business. I would have posted a picture, but the food didn't last that long!!! It was amazing! Prices are great and the food is FRESH!! I would choose this over a chain "restaurant" any day!! I don't think this place needs a review but I will leave mine just the same. I mean, I think they are pretty well known in the area. And with that said, these are the best bagels outside of Brooklyn. Like, they are that good. If you want to know what a good bagel is, and you are nearby, you must come here. Unfortunately, these delicacies have no pairings, like no coffee or smoked salmon, but they are amazing nonetheless. CASH ONLY. Robotics competition brought us to Waterbury. We were really aiming for the other amis but the gps led us here. Very small place inside no seating get your food and get on your way. I can say I wasn't disappointed in this place. Bagels were the perfect combinations of crisp and chewy. Place was steaming the windows always a good sign of quality. read more

Stopped by this morning at 9:10 they were out of everything, sesame, poppyseed, and plain bagels. Why bother to open the store if you sell bagels and are sold out by 9:10 in the morning, as others have pointed out seems like poor business practice. I think it's more like an inability to run a business. idiots! read more

Everyone raves about this spot but I honestly do not ever enjoy it. It's always a hit or miss for me. I usually like getting bacon egg and cheese sandwiches; but, every time I order I get a very greasy sandwich so much so that I do not enjoy it at all. Also sometimes when I call to order it seems like the phones disconnected so that calls cannot come in. This is just my experience I've had the last few times I've ordered from them. read more

These might just be the best bagels in CT. My first and most important tip is to read all the other tips about getting there early and listen to them, don't be like me and think you are going to slide on in at 11am on a Saturday and get an everything bagel!!! All they had left were plain, blueberry, and spinach. We ended up trying a plain with veggie cream cheese and a blueberry with regular cream cheese. The blueberry bagel is really filled with blueberries!! No fake blueberry flavor at all. I usually prefer more savory bagels so was not expecting to like it, but it was great. The plain bagel was on point, good texture, crispy and chewy. Veggie cream cheese was excellent, and gave me the extra flavor I was looking for so the limited selection worked out fine for us. Service was fast and friendly, and not busy at all by that time. read more

Ami's has the best bagels around and this has been so for a while. While time has not been kind to the ol' Colonial Plaza, Ami's Hot Bagels remains a warm hug from an old friend. Went there today to get a dozen bagels for a breakfast birthday at work and was reminded of why I love this place. Completely blanked that they don't accept cards and began to apologize and ask about where I could find a bank. "I don't worry about." The women hands me the register tape and says "take care of it next time." For my hometown of Waterbury, this is something! I thanked them and left. Found that the gas station on the corner of Thomaston and West Main has an ATM and got cash and went back and paid. I'm good for it but I also forget. This place is the real deal in terms of bagels but they are usually very busy when I go so you don't always get a sense of their customer service. Today confirmed that they do this equally well. Than you Ami's. Always a great experience! read more

The bagels here are simply "Out of this World" ! They are large, airy, and extremely tasty ! This morning, I had a French toast bagel, my gf wanted a cranberry one (but they did not have any), so she went with a cinnamon raisin instead (which she loved). We got a couple more (plain & wheat) for sandwiches later. The bagels are a bit difficult to fit into a toaster (because they are so large and airy), but they came out perfectly lightly toasted after I compressed them down a little. The owner is Macedonian, you rarely find such ethnic places around anymore. They are good people, I hope they are making such wonderful bagels in Waterbury for a very long time. read more

Ami's bagels are hands-down the best bagels I've ever had in my life! Do these bagels make the universe a better place? YES! I like getting a toasted onion or everything with butter in the morning. There's something about that old toaster that makes this bagel super toasted, almost burnt like a good CT style pizza. The bagels are hand-rolled, super thick, crusty on the outside and deliciously chewy on the inside. The Ami's location on Thomaston Ave. is hands-down the best, although the East Main location makes bigger quantities. The Thomaston Ave. location is in a sketchy run-down strip mall and sometimes there are homeless or down-and-out people outside. Do them a favor, get them a coffee or a bagel. Or give them a dollar. I also get these bagels at LaBonne's supermarket in Watertown. If you are toasting at home, they are just as good. Plus you can get your salmon separately. Ami's does not have fancy sandwiches, or even lox. They do one thing. Bagels. Bagels with butter, plain or flavored cream cheese, coffee, and some drinks. That's it. They are divine. Pro tip: lately they have run out of bagels on Friday mornings! I've gotten there at 8am and they have their lights off. Closed. Sold out. They are THAT good. I'm not sure about the weekends, but you have to get there early to grab these delightful creations. read more

They are made fresh daily, fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside, perfect for any breakfast sandwich, butter, cream cheese (that is made in house with a variety of flavors), peanut butter, or just plain, they are a MUST try. Stopped in today for bagels and really enjoyed them. Because I got there relatively late (about 10am) the selection was limited so I got a plain bagel with cream cheese, a plain bagel with vegetable cream cheese, and a blueberry bagel with cream cheese, all toasted. They were all crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and the blueberry was impressive as you could see the blueberries seamlessly mixed throughout the dough. Also really enjoyed the veggie cream cheese as the veggies did not overpower but instead added a delicious brightness. The service also was friendly, fast and understanding as I was trying to decide amongst the limited selection. Definitely recommend and make sure to not be like me and get here early! read more

My mother in law recently gave us a few left over bagels that were delicious and perfectly doughy in the center with a crispy outside. They came from Ami's, a place I had never heard of. So when we woke up today and talking about breakfast I craved another Ami's bagel!! We took the 20 min drive to Waterbury and it was well worth it! The lady in front of us bought out the blueberry bagel, which I really wanted. I got french toast bagel instead which I was worried about being too sweet. However, it wasn't sweet at all and was perfect!! This has become one of my favorite bagel place!! My only gripe is they made our iced coffees wrong which we didn't realize til we left. If it happens again, I may knock them down a star but other than that, place was clean and staff were friendly! read more
