I fired up the Yelp app, searched for bagel shops near me, and up popped Lola's Bagels. It turned out to be an excellent choice, because we sure loved our visit. We found them in a small shopping center with plenty of parking on East Main Street (Route 202). The dining room is modestly sized with four tables. We saw they have about a dozen bagel flavors (including French Toast and Cranberry), six cream cheeses, seventeen breakfast sandwiches (including Ribeye Steak and Roast Beef), twelve Specialty Sandwiches (including some cool names like Pastrami Crispy and Big Boy Cheese), plus muffins, hash browns, and coffees - plenty of coffee choices. Yes, they have a Latte, Cappuccino, and Macchiato, but what distanced them from ordinary bagel store coffees (at least in my mind), was the hit parade of twenty-nine flavored coffees - spanning the alphabet from Amaretto and Almind Joy to Salted Caramel and Sweet Irish Cream. We ordered at the counter from Leonora, a very engaging and friendly host. Our order was simple -an Everything Bagel with Veggie Cream Cheese, an Everything Bagel with Scallion Chive Cream Cheese, a small coconut coffee and a small Chocolate Banana coffee. Everything ran a teense under $15. Our coffees were made first, a few minutes later, our bagels were ready, so we sat down at one of the tables and dug in. My first observation was that the bagel itself was large and was served warm, as though it had recently come out of the oven. It had plenty of tasty Scallion Chive Cream Cheese. The combination of the warm bagel, the cream cheese, and the savory taste of the Everything seasoning and bits of scallions combined for a real taste treat. And when I took a sip of my coffee, my breakfast zoomed into another dimension because that Chocolate Banana Coffee was amazing, I mean it was terrific. I loved the distinct banana and chocolate flavors. As we enjoyed our meal, we saw a steady stream of walk-in customers and food delivery pickups. We noted that when a Grub Hubber or Door Dasher came in to pick up an order, the drinks were made in real time, not pre-poured. This meant the coffees would be delivered as hot as possible, and the cold drinks wouldn't be watered down by melted ice. There were so many nice things we experienced at Lola's. As far as a coffee and bagel spot goes, it was as good as it gets.

The owners, the staff, and the loyal customers have all brought the same warmth and sense of family with them. It still feels like home. I'll admit, though, I was crushed when I learned that Taylor Ham didn't make the move to the new menu. If you read my older reviews, that's actually what brought me through their doors in the first place. It genuinely broke my heart. But loyalty goes both ways. I love this place, so instead of dwelling on what isn't there, I'm making my way through the menu looking for a new favorite. Today I tried the Jalapeño Whopper--bacon, grilled jalapeños, and cream cheese on an everything bagel. It was really good. I discovered that warm cream cheese just isn't my thing, but that's 100% on me, not the sandwich. I also ordered the Gootz: sausage, egg, provolone, sautéed mushrooms, and cherry peppers on a garlic bagel. Outstanding. I'd order that again without hesitation. I'm going to keep working my way through the menu in hopes of finding something that fills the Taylor Ham-sized hole in my heart. And even if I never do, I'll happily keep coming back for their outstanding bagels, incredible spreads, great food, and the feeling you get every time you walk through the door. And while their coffee service is a little different with the pots behind the counter, it's still fantastic. Some places serve breakfast. DeRocco's feels like home.

I lived in the Bronx at that time and on the main shopping street near me was a bagel bakery-you walked in and saw the vats where they boiled them and then put them on a conveyor to bake. I started bringing home bagels for her and soon my whole family started asking me to bring some for them - next thing you know, I was bringing 12 - 13 dozen bagels whenever I drove home (I have a big family)! The bagel bakery began giving me a discount for such huge orders. The only kind I refused to bring were garlic - my car (and I) would smell like garlic long after I arrived. As wonderful as those bagels were, Blue House makes the best bagels I've ever had. And the whole Vibe there is so welcoming -always friendly and helpful staff, so many great products, and a lovely area to sit and enjoy my chai and bagel. My only "complaint" is not being able to buy their fresh bagels on Monday or Tuesday!
