We think politics doesn't need to figure into our, or anyone else's, comments on Yelp. But sometimes it seems unavoidable. In this instance, it's the posting of political signs in front of this restaurant. We don't happen to agree with the signage, but even if we did we believe it has no place in front of a business. How does that encourage everyone to stop in? It's a "no" for us, but ... even before any signs appeared, we found ourselves increasingly discouraged by the quality of food served here. Want your eggs poached or runny? Good luck getting them the way you want. Overcooked home fries? Every time. Sadly, everything tastes tired. On our trip to Connecticut, we were looking for a small-town vibes diner, and Patty's was it! With nice servers, generous servings, and a hometown atmosphere, it checked all of our boxes! Came here for breakfast with my parents since it was on our way home to New Jersey. First impressions of this place was that it seemed very homey and welcoming, which I throughly enjoyed. I also enjoyed the fact that there is art being promoted and for same on the walls of the resturant. Our server had no real personality besides being in a rush and going very fast with everything she was doing. She would drop food and vanish and she never introduced herself to us. Just kept asking questions like what we wanted to drink, eat, or if we wanted a refill. The food did take quite awhile to cook, I'm not sure if it was cause it was bustling but for breakfast food it was SLOW. There were people who came if at least 20 minutes after us and they got served right after we did, so maybe our food was sitting in the window for awhile, I'm not sure. Now onto the food portion of the review. I ordered The Southern which consists of two eggs, contend beef hash toast and your choice of home fries or hash browns. Instead of toast I got their fruit cup which was amazing and fresh, the only downside being that the blueberries were hard and sour. I got my eggs cooked over easy and they were perfect, along with my hash brows that were just the right amount of crispy. However my corned beef hash was just terrible. It tasted bitter and honestly had no flavor. Which was very disappointing. Overall, I don't think that this is the best spot to get breakfast. Service was lackluster and slow. The food was mediocre and there were several good aspects but the bad aspects outweighed them. Maybe I just got a bad order, but my father ordered the same thing and agreed with me about the corned beef hash. If you do want to come here, I recommend sticking to eggs, hash browns and fruit. As my mother claimed her egg white omelet was good. Also, they only accept cash payments which is definitely a downside and parking is not that accessible. read more

Patty's USED to be a reliable and decent food stop on the busy Route 202 in tony Litchfield, CT - a humble and reasonably priced luncheonette for average folks to get breakfast for under $50. Not anymore. And it isn't even because they went upscale. If anything they've downscaled beyond belief. I went there this morning fully expecting to have a nice breakfast with my partner. I ordered off of the special menu. The order I placed was literally what was printed on the menu. An order of corned beef hash, two eggs, any style, which I chose to have over easy, and the menu stated that I could get one side, so I chose bacon, and it came with toast, but I opted to have an English muffin instead. Pretty simple, right? No no... The order came out and I was missing the "star" of the show - my corned beef hash. A pathetic pile of nearly-burnt bacon was on the plate along with my eggs, which were also overdone. I was willing to overlook that, but the hash was missing. When I questiond this oversight with the waitress, I was told that the hash was extra. So confused. Needless to say, the establishment doesn't even understand what's on their own menu. After going back-and-forth with a tall sturdily-built blonde at the front counter, it took me forever to convince her that I ordered exactly what the menu featured. That's when she informed me that bacon is not considered a side with that particular breakfast special - only potatoes, grits, or oatmeal. This fact was not explained to me by the newbie waitress that took our order. And the only reason I know she was a newbie was because the tall blonde decided to tell me that the girl was new and blamed it all on her. Several times. Blaming your staff for not having a concise explanation of your menu? Unreal. The hash finally came out and was silently and unceremoniously dumped in front of me by said blonde on the table. It was awful. The hash tasted sour and off. Definitely not even worth paying for. It was straight out of a can. My partner and I consumed what we could of our breakfast and paid. As we were walking out the door, the blonde shouted to us, "sir, sir" to which my partner turned around, and went to see what the issue was. Apparently, we owed them an extra six dollars for the two coffees that they left off of the tab when they adjusted the first screw up on the bill. THEIR screw up. This would've been a comedy of errors if it was funny. But it was not funny. To hit your customers up for more money as they're walking out the door for your own math mistake? Shame on you! This is the point at which Patty's could have turned the situation around. Let the coffee thing go. Comp the coffee for the bad service. It would've been forgiven and I wouldn't be posting this review right now. This was not done. There was no effort put forth by staff to try to make an already bad experience slightly better by just letting us leave. Especially after an upsetting meal. Absolutely ridiculous. Bottom line: Patty's does not care. They do not care about their customers and they do not care about their reputation or their business. Disgusting service, disgusting food, I will never go back. Hope this place closes up. If I could give it no stars I would. Please don't waste your time. There is so much better - although more expensive- food in the area. This place feels very homey upon walking in. The aesthetics are nothing to write home about, but who cares as long as the foods good, right? We got here on a Saturday morning, and thankfully the restaurant is pretty big and we were able to be seated right away. They have a regular menu, which is pretty bland. But, make sure you ask for the specials menu because they literally have like 20 awesome options to choose from on there! I got the pumpkin waffle with walnuts and whipped cream, which was pretty good. I tried a side of the jalapeño bacon, which was good but just a tad to crisp fort liking. My boyfriend had a southern chicken omelette with home fries, which was DELISH. And our other friend got a cheese burger with fries, which I heard was heavenly. We also ordered a salad with fresh fruits that looked super inviting. We enjoyed the food so much were definitely coming back again. read more

This place is really cute - with the paint and sunshine coming through the windows, it feels like you're in someone's kitchen. The tables have ads for local sponsors, so it also seems very connected to the community. The menu has plenty of options without being too big, and the prices are reasonable. The hash browns were served in a skilled, which was wonderfully crispy but did allow the oil to become a bit too absorbed into the potatoes. I recommend eating those first, or at least getting them out of the skillet. Other than that it was well seasoned, served warm, and definitely a step above your average diner food. read more

My family and I went to breakfast here after my niece's wedding. We were supposed to be 15pp but it turned out to be 25. Ten of the group came later so the orders were not all at once. At the end of the meal the cook stormed into the room and shouted aggressively to us about being a larger group. It was totally inappropriate. The servers were absolutely lovely and had no trouble with taking or serving orders. I have been in the restaurant business my whole life and NEVER had an experience like this. Been here twice. The service was good both times, but the food choices are kind of hit or miss. I've tried the steak and the Canadian bacon and they both were inedible. Waitresses were rotten especially the blonde who blew her nose behind the counter and immediately went over to the ice machine to fill her glass without washing her hands - ewwwwww! We come every week and love it here. The staff is incredibly friendly and nice, the food is very good and homey, and they're happy to make any adjustments you'd like or even order off menu. The eggplant fries are the best, but so are the huge muffins and I love making it in for brunch when I can on the weekends. It's cash only, but there is an ATM. There is now additional seating in an adjoining room where they also sell local art and handmade creations, and they are also looking for more art as we speak! Stopped in for breakfast this morning. I agree with other reviewers, it's best to get here early on the weekends. We arrived at around 8:30am today (a Sunday morning), and were seated right away. But soon after, there was line heading out the door with people waiting for tables. A large part of the problem seems to be a "slow kitchen" -- it took us a while to get our meals, I noticed the same at nearby tables. As for the food, I had the Pumpkin bread French Toast w/ whipped cream (thought it was OK), and my fiancee ordered a bacon, tomato, and american cheese omelet (that was very good, I tried some of hers). Stopped in last Friday morning. I am not sure why I have not stopped in here before, I pass it all the time when I drive through to Mt. Tom, Kent Falls book fair, etc. The coffee is good and they have "sugar in the raw" which is a plus. I had the crepes stuffed with cream cheese and topped with fresh (yes I said FRESH) berries. My man had the eggs benedict with a side of grits! OH how we Yankees love grits but cannot find them anywhere around except Patty's. The place is clean, the service is friendly and the food is not greasy. It is genuinely a great little breakfast spot that doesn't give me a stomachache and it has interesting specials on the menu as well as the classics. I hate to give bad reviews, so I'm giving a 3. Stopped in with my husband today for lunch. He had found this place a few weeks back and came home raving about his roast beef sandwich. Today we found ourselves looking for lunch and it's a Wednesday so Bohemian, Saltfish and some others are closed so we decided to just do a quick meal at the diner. Of course he ordered the roast beef again which he said was not as good as the first time. I ordered a burger which by far was the tiniest burger I have ever been served. Gone in 8 normal sized bites. Served with house made potato chips. The chips may be good normally but today they were over done. The fact that a hard working kitchen is lumped in with this review is unfortunate because they put out quality breakfast food. The home fries were awesome, as was my breakfast sandwich. What I am compelled to review is the service. My wife and I came in today, were told to seat ourselves and asked if it was okay to sit if we were getting food to go. Normally I wouldn't think to do that but it was 11am and there were 7 open tables. Our server made it very awkward, not realizing I had every intent of tipping a full 20%. I mean really, I used to wait tables in college - a to-go table during change over that you can turn in a matter of minutes - what more can you ask for during the breakfast to lunch change over?? Anyway, after 25 minutes of waiting for a parfait and breakfast sandwich, my wife realized our to-go order had been sitting on the counter for 10 minutes. If the server who had us is reading this: from one server to another, remember that you work for tips. The psychology of tipping talks about the concept of "scarcity"; make your table feel like you are making an exception just for them. Tell me "we don't normally do that but I'll get you in and out of here in no time" - all of a sudden I feel like I need to tip you well over the standard 20%. Instead, I put your tip in the collection jar supporting the local less fortunate because judging by your demeanor at work, you don't need tip money. read more

We so desperately wanted this place to be great, but it was not. The service was good and we liked our waitress, but the food was well below par. We ordered the salmon eggs Benedict with tomato and avocado with a side of both hash browns and home fries. We expected the typical smoked salmon, but it came with a piece of salmon that one would usually eat for dinner. The avocado was terrible!! We knew that it wasn't good the moment it was placed In front of us. It was not the color or texture of a good and ripe avacado. I tried it, hoping that maybe I was wrong, but I was not. I had to spit it out. My eggs were ok, but my husband's eggs were undercooked. As for the potatoes...the home fries were ok. The hash browns were not! Super greasy and rubbery, like they had been microwaved. Just gross. Our son ordered the crepes and was expecting the cheese filling to be slightly sweet like ones he'd had in the past. Two friends and I made the very adult decision to eat lunch before an afternoon of wine tasting, and were happy to find Patty's on the way to Hopkins Vineyard. The restaurant was bright, open and clean. It was very busy, but we were seated right away. We all ordered off the specials menu, and the service was quick and attentive. I had a toasted sandwich with brie and some other ingredients that now escape me. It came with a side of coleslaw (the other options were chips and potato salad, I think). We were all impressed with the quality of the food, particularly because the prices were very fair. Including tip, we spent just about $30 total, for three sandwiches, drinks, and a huge basket of really good french fries to share. My family and I loved this place and always supported it, I never write any reviews even less so bad ones but this impacts public safety. I was there on Sunday for outdoor dining. The hostess and owner Patty had the mask below her nose. I went inside to use the restroom everyone was huddled up (8 or so employees) with masks on their chins talking, and customers inside with no mask at all. I called to bring it up nicely and Patty had major attitude telling me that maybe I shouldn't be out. So no we won't support a business that instead of saying sorry for your experience blames the customer or someone who feels like they can break the rules especially when they have tons of senior customers there. Beware. Or take a risk. They don't care about Covid19 there and feel like unless you are perfectly healthy then you don't deserve to be out. read more
