I went on a Saturday night for karaoke. Chuck Dreger's karaoke is SO much fun! Also, the kitchen staff is amazing. The food is delicious! I need to give tribute to Melissa behind the bar. She was enjoying her day off when a co-worker called in sick. Well, Melissa jumped behind the bar and worked that shift! She did a GREAT job, and she sang as well! So, I wasn't prepared for how big this was. I only went to the restaurant, not the bar, but there were so many tables, booths and even a little bar! It was very much what I would consider a "Connecticut diner" - very clean and a similar menu to a New Jersey one, but maybe a bit more manufactured. My burger was juicy and a good amount of blue cheese, and came with a side of Lays. The clam chowder also had a higher than average amount of clams, perfectly seasoned and at a temperature for the drizzling weather outside. The waitreas was very nice, and kept checking on what else we may need as we ate. There was a window where you could see into the kitchen, which is always interesting. There are restrooms in back, and I mean BACK. Again, this place is HUGE and it's a small maze to get to the restrooms. read more

I eat at this place several times a year (over 15+) when I'm in the area and have never had any complaints with the food or service whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Food is always delicious with good portions and prices. Also a very popular place with the locals. read more

Server was completely indifferent to providing even the minimum standard of service- no smile , slammed food on the table , served wrong beverage, ice- cold soup which had to be heated twice, no condiment for burger and fries, never checked back on meal, needed to ask another server for help in getting sauce that was absent from pasta dish as well. This is one of the few bars and restaurants in town, and is a gathering place for many in the area. Yes, it's pretty much diner food, but it's good diner food, with decent portions and usually fast service. In the bar, there's generally entertainment on weekends, which is a big draw for me. Bestie and I wandered in when a friend was playing, grabbed some dinner, and listened to some tunes. It's one of the few places where I can still get chicken tenders, so that was my go-to. It's served with fries and slaws, and sweet-and-sour dipping sauce. Bestie had a turkey club, that was overstuffed (she couldn't finish it), and served with fries. They also have a number of entrée specials that are advertised on a large chalkboard. We're going back to try them some night! It was quite busy that night, with the bartender doing double duty serving drinks and taking care of all the tables, both inside and out. Hats off to her! Nick's Country Kitchen is a quaint little diner in rural Bethlehem, Connecticut. We had never been there before, but decided to drop in for lunch today, as it is less than 20 miles from where we live in Bristol. The place is not very large, it was a local crowd inside. My wife wanted something Italian, so she ordered a chicken parm dinner. I went with the Fish & Chips off the lunch specials. My wife enjoyed the salad that came with her meal -- the peppercorn/ranch dressing was very tasty & fresh, had to be made in-house. Her chicken parm dinner was outstanding -- delicious, the home-made marinara sauce was spot on, perfect. We were told the chicken is hammered thin and put in brine over-night. The owner obviously knows how to cook, we appreciated his expertise. My Fish & Chips was also very good, fresh-tasting and satisfying. And, super generous portions -- my wife had to take at least half of her dinner home, she could not finish it all. Service was superb also. Nick's Country Kitchen isn't the place to go for sophisticated ambience, but it is the place to go for Dang tasty food. I'll take this place over a so called "5 Star restaurant" in NYC any day. It's a hidden gem in Bethlehem, we're looking forward to going back some time soon for breakfast or a pizza. read more

I read the reviews that were very low and I believe unfairly given from phobic covid lemmings. They want to go to a restaurant where people believe in science. It is smart to play it covid-safe, but this condescending "believe in science" statement is generally fostered by those who believe more in "political science" than real medical science. Studies have shown that covid is spread in the most miniscule of percentages through restaurants. To the less than intellectual critics, if you are so worried about covid, when you saw the lack of masks - why didn't you leave? Is it possible you wanted an opportunity to bash fellow hard-working Americans trying to make a living? They were not trying to give you fearful pussycats anything but a nice meal? And you stomped on them anyway. Nice work. I had a very different experience at this place yesterday (4/12/2021). Everyone had masks. The restaurant is small, but roomy enough to keep your distance and extremely clean. The waitress was a young lady who was very pleasant, attractive, professional, and attentive. May I interject a thought - as I reminisce about keeping a six foot distance, and while I wore a mask at my table looking like a fool with my wife? 1. What "science" tells us to space 6 feet? Why not 30 feet, or 2 feet or no feet? Show me the the study and evidence, please. No one will ask this question. (Perhaps this is the political science you cowardly critics believe without questioning and write about?) 2. What scientific study says to wear masks? What types are specified? Show me that study, and address the studies that instruct medical workers not to wear masks for elongated periods. I wasn't scared dining at Nick's. (I know, some consider me as "brave as a Marine", but I am not worthy of being a Boy Scout, much less a Marine.) The Bubble Boy has not been seen at this restaurant or anywhere, and neither have his candy @ss disciples, some of whom unfairly lowered the rating of this excellent eatery. If you are a Bubble Boy afficionado, please stay home and let us "brave" souls eat a nice lunch. OK, so let's get to it: I ordered a soup and eggplant parmesan 12" sandwich. My wife ordered the sausage and peppers 12" sandwich, and also a soup. We also had a tea. (The sandwiches are really heros by many definitions.) Here's one reason I'm giving 5 stars: There was a miscommunication on the original order and the wrong sandwich came out. Guess what? People make mistakes, but you learn a lot from people when it happens - and we learned a lot. The very nice waitress apologized, and moments later the correct sandwich emerged. Going the extra mile, she wrapped the "wrong" sandwich, telling us - "Why don't you take this home? No charge - it was our mistake." Despite offering to pay for the extra sandwich, she would not take our money. That's good business and will definitely bring me back. But how were these two sandwiches? They were great! The bread was extremely good and a little different than what I expected, but in a great way. Slightly firm crust, but the bread was moist and fluffy. Total charge for 2 Italian hero's at 12" each (and too big to finish) and 2 soups and tea: $21.60. This place couldn't be more affordable. For the others who critiqued this place, I suspect you have never been to a restaurant outside of New Milford, Torrington, Bethlehem, Woodbury, or Morris or Winchester. Nick's is not trying to be the Waldorf, or Windows on the World, or Gibson's Steak House, or even Joe's Deli on Arthur Ave. But the food is excellent and perfect for affordable dining when exploring Litchfield County. If you are celebrating a graduation, 80th birthday, new baby, parole from prison - this may not be your venue. But if I lived closer, I'd be in this restaurant for lunch and breakfast and an occasional dinner 4-5 times a month. And to the mean-spirited critics....please stay home if you are terrified. Went in yesterday and not one person on staff was wearing a mask. Waitress told me they haven't worn masks since they reopened after lockdown. She snickered with the other waitress about my questioning her when she walked back to the counter. Yikes! Will never eat there again. Called in to place an order from their "online" menu, that I was told by the girl taking our order that THEIR active menu is listed on Facebook, and said I would call right back once we knew what we wanted- literally just called in to confirm that the menu was the correct one to which I was told yes, easy enough?!? My family of 5 spent a decent amount of time looking over the menu and picking what we wanted- I called back and she acted completely dumb founded when we asked for the FIRST thing listed and said she's "never heard of it" first of all who's never heard of cheese curds. My husband and I had breakfast at Nick's on Sunday, 4/15/12. Even though we live nearby, it was our first time there. How have we missed this place all these years?! I felt like we were the only people that the wait staff didn't know by name! It was such a friendly and welcoming place. The service was super friendly and attentive. Our food was also very good. I am from out of town and went there after apple picking today. There was a sign by the door that said family restaurant. I went In with my husband, kids, father, stepmother, sister and her daughter. There was a bar but some tables as well. We sat down at the table and were immediately given an attitude by the waitress. There was a patron there who was continuously saying things about my kids being there, and even clapped when I brought my daughter outside. I didn't realize there was another side to the restaurant. When we moved to the other side the waitress said, this place isn't for kids. It would've been nice if they told us there was another side when we walked in there. I have never been treated so rudely in my life. The food was good and the waitress on the other side was good but I will never go there again and will tell everyone else my story. read more

We originally headed out to the Bethlehem Indoor flea market, but it was closed. We drove around a bit and found this place. I'm glad we did. We were there around 300pm on a Sunday. The bar side and take out looked busy. The restaurant side is small about 12 table s/booths. Only one waitress serving the 6 tables that were occupied, plus she was doing everything else. Even with that her attitude was cheerful and consistent. The food was good, and plentiful. My husband's fried chicken player came out piping hot, looked like a half a chicken, plus a salad, fries and coleslaw. He said the chicken was good, moist and crunchy, not greasy. The fries, yum!!! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, steak fries. I had the waldorf salad, well their version of it. It was greens with apples, walnuts, and craberries on top, and a sliced boiled egg. There was supposed to be grapes too, but there weren't any on my salad. All served dry, not the traditional waldorf salad. I added plain chicken, it was tasty. The Apple was mushy, I took It all off. It was a large serving, enough left for a take home meal for the next day. We were also able to buy some farm fresh eggs which we were happy with. Excellent burgers! People love the pizza but I think it's the best burger in our area. Always cooked the way you order it, great juicy beef, loads of bacon on the bacon cheeseburger and awesome soft sesame roll. If I don't get burger when we go, it's one of the nightly specials. Great fish dishes, super side dishes and soup or generous salad with your entree. Highly recommend Nicks. Four stars because the dining room side needs some decor help. I'm not from the town and had a family member text me the number. I called and the girl just answered "Hello". I asked if it was the pizza place and she became rude. "Uh, yeah." I asked for small cheese pizza & fish n' chips. That totaled $24 and change. Whoa. When I went in to pick it up same rude girl. Barely said two words to me and absolutely not friendly. She wasn't the only one with an attitude. Seems to me that they have the I'm a small town pizza place, where else will you go without driving far attitude.
