Chicken Piccata with scalloped potatoes: express lunch

Food quality / price (value) rating 10. The atmosphere is upscale Italian. A well designed and decorated dining area with a small bar and a large outdoor seating area that fills up quickly daily so make reservations if you want to be assured of getting a table. This is what fine dining is supposed to be. There is also a large catering area on the second floor. Perfectly prepared and presented dishes, served hot! The spices and flavors are generously dealt from Chef Dennis, a Culinary Institute of America graduate, that knows how food is supposed to taste! Our meal began with two types of fresh baked bread, a sweet tomato dipping sauce and a housemade hummus. Incredible, as most places don't even serve one kind of bread anymore. I had the very well trimmed Grilled Pork Chop with broiled & chopped Brussels Sprouts and Scalloped Potatoes. The chop was large and well trimmed and charred to perfection and incredibly flavorful. Also on the plate I received a well balanced choice of mustard and puree sauces - fantastic! The wife had a special of Bay Scallops (very hard to find) with homemade shell pasta and shrimp fra Diavolo. The pasta was cooked to perfection, the sauce was extremely flavorful, and the food was very hot even as we were packing up our leftovers. Our server was friendly, attentive and fast. We split a Chocolate Souffle that came with hot fudge, a small brownie, a cookie, ice cream and whipped cream. A total surprise as the menu completely undersells this dessert. The dining area is spotlessly clean, and the restrooms were clean and fresh. The restaurant appeared to be wheelchair accessible. I'm going to give this restaurant a rare "rave review"! We can't wait to come back.

Our go-to spot in Woodbury. Food and service is always on point. Always look forward to their specials and outdoor dining.

    Gnocchi Ala Vodka

Visited John's Cafe on a Thursday evening, was able to make a reservation fairly easily! To start, we ordered a bottle of Rosé & were delivered Pinot Grigio.. we did not send it back since it was already opened & changed our drink order prior. Our appetizers were interesting - tomato basil pizza was a hit, mussels were a miss. Completely fishy & unable to eat, server graciously took them off the bill & off the table. We had the chickpea fries which were crisp & yummy, aioli was a great pairing. For my entree I had the gnocchi ala vodka, great flavor & texture of pasta - homemade! My sister & mom had the porkchop that was perfect, they ordered double starch & received veggies which was confusing but we took it. The salmon piccata tasted fishy as well. My recommendation to you - go for the pizzas, chickpea fries, pasta or meat entrees, avoid the seafood.

This was a great meal. From the attentive service, to very good food, to the ambiance - even with dining in the parking lot the outdoor carpet and cloth napkin table settings, well it just worked Let's start with the wine. Nice choices and standard prices, but not a short pour. A good glass to enjoy pre ordering and through the appetizer. Food, from an excellent red (slightly spicey) red sauce for the mussels and just outstanding tomatoes with a 25 year old balsamic and house made ricotta. We lived it. Potato gnocchi was great with the roasted tomatoes and basil and the swordfish was tender and not over grilled. Lastly a light cheescake ( hint of lemon?) and our friend just enjoyed the profiterols with coffee ice cream...was it homemade? It was rich and tasty ( I may have tasted it..) We are going back..its a long drive but worth it!!

Hangar steak (cooked rare) with truffle flies- he cleaned the plate!

GPS was not my friend on this trip and the signage was a little hard to see, but we found it after only driving past it once. The hostess stand and dining area are just to the left, through a doorway when you enter the building. Reservations are suggested and after visiting today, I can understand why. Even with a reservation, we were seated by the bar/party room. Unfortunately, it made hearing my mother-in-law almost impossible to hear. Besides the loud music and even louder chatter from the attendees at the baby shower, we were constantly interrupted by the partygoers. I had to move for people going through the doorway, making room for large gifts and a woman's walker. At one point, we were even by a family of party guests to take a picture standing by the doorway and a decorative tree. The group grew and I had to leave the table to make room. So, why 4 stars? The staff were amazing and the food was even better. The ladies at the hostess stand were pleasant and our waiter was very friendly. My Tipsy Leprechaun Martini was brought by another cordial server. Our drinks were brought quickly, orders were taken, and our meals were delivered quickly. I ordered the Oscar Benedict with crabmeat and asparagus served over polenta with a side of homefries. My mother-in-law chose the Classic Benedict also with the homefries. We were both impressed with the presentation of the meals, the portion size and the seasoning of the homefries. The crabmeat ratio to the portion size was perfect. The eggs were made correctly and the sauce was bright and not too heavy. I would definitely give the Brunch House a second chance, but maybe ask for a better seat.

The menu hit all the right notes. I had the chicken honey mustard panini and it was delicious, plus bonus points for real side options (yes to the onion rings). My wife went with an omelet and potatoes and was more than satisfied. The vibe was warm, homey, with a couple of fireplaces going... perfect on a chilly, overcast day. And a shout-out to Dana, our attentive server, who kept things moving without ever feeling rushed. The kind of place you're happy to linger in.

My husband and I are in the area for a weekend getaway and wanted to find a nice place for a date night. We chose Vyne after looking at their menu, which appeared elevated and unique. Pros and Cons below but the spark notes are: Nice atmosphere, good service, bad (and expensive) food. Pros: *The atmosphere is nice. Slightly elevated, beautiful decor, very nice bar area, and the outdoor area is a vibe. *Service was good. Our waitress was kind, efficient and helpful. *Our cocktails were great. Delicious, not wildly overpriced, and fresh. Cons and the reason why I could not recommend going to this restaurant: Overall the food was wildly disappointing, especially at this price point. We paid (with tip and 2 cocktails each) $250 for food we couldn't finish it was so poorly cooked and prepared. * Surf & Turf appetizer (24) - interesting and fresh spring flavor but the shrimp (a main component of the dish) was overcooked. * Scallop entree($44)- Scallops were not cooked well. They were very rubbery, chewy and bouncy. I left two on the plate. The flavor profile was also heavily oil. * Side of Mac&Cheese - now, I have NEVER not finished mac&cheese, it's my absolute favorite food and a treat for me to order. This mac&cheese was so bad that we had 2 bites and didn't finish. For a $9.50 side I would expect something interesting. Maybe a baked dish? Or three cheeses? Anything than what we got - which was shell pasta (undercooked) and a cheese sauce (similar to a Velveeta). There was also a strange aftertaste, almost like a spoiled milk. Besides that aftertaste there was absolutely no flavor. * The Filet Mignon ($52) - maybe the most disappointing of all our dishes with a theme of badly cooked and no flavor. Asked for it cooked medium rare and closer to the rare side - it came to us as a solid medium. The steak didn't seem to be seasoned at all. No flavor. The potatoes had no crisp and absolutely no flavor. There was a generic BBQ sauce on the plate. With no salt and pepper on the table (on purpose with the expectation that everything would be flavored perfectly) it made absolutely no sense to finish a dish that we could make better at home. A truly disappointing meal that we couldn't finish, paid $$$$ for and had to stop at fast food on the way home from because we were still so hungry. I don't review often but I needed to because this is an expensive restaurant for what it is, and I want to make sure people know what they're getting into. Maybe we just went on a bad night, but we won't be going back to find out.

The food was very good, priced right, and proper portions. We shared the mild buffalo wings, extra crispy. The sauce was good and wings cooked well. The bleu cheese dip did not seem to be homemade but it did the job. My wife had a French onion soup which was very good, and the tots-chos. The tots were crispy and smothered in what we believe was a homemade cheese sauce, olives, jalapeños, pickled red onions, and fire roasted corn. It came with salsa, which in our opinion wasn't really needed. Sour cream may have been better but they were fine as is. I had the Tex-mex wrap with fire roasted corn which came with sidewinder fries. Everything was well seasoned and we brought home plenty of leftovers. The beer list was smaller but had a good selection of local crafts and some more well known brands. Our server, Jules, was very nice, attentive, and made good recommendations.
