So I went to Fritz's becauseI knew they had a lunch counter a s I wanted a quick lunch and not no GD prepackaged fake fast food... I ordered 2 dogs, mustard relish onion. They way I always get them. They nice lady asked if I wanted Kraut and I said No and she asked a second time and I politely declined again and repeated my order. Just mustard relish and onion.. I didn't get the kraut cuz I'm fussy about kraut. So my 2 long dogs came out and sure enough they had kraut.. I mentioned it and she said she could wipe the kraut off.. I declined and said I'll take them just as they are I was in a rush. 2 long dogs , which I didn't expect I thought they're gonna be regular dogs. They were on a New England bun and the bun was toasted. I had my mustard relish, onion, and they put kraut on it.. so I ate it, and like I said it's not that I don't kraut, but i donnt want it wet. I don't want making my bun soggy and then ruining the experience. To my surprise, this is very good kraut and even though it's cooking in its it juices, they dry it up a little on the grill and get it a little caramelized then they put it on the dog so I'm here to report if you go to Fritzs you're gonna get kraut whether you like it or not, but here's the good news. This is a great small town family diner that I would highly suggest for some quick and yummy food. For a snack shop, they have a plentiful amount of breakfast and lunch options, spanning from French toast to hot dogs to salads. Once you enter you are able to seat yourself in either booths or tables and a waitress or waiter will quickly tend to you. The food comes out quick and is delicious. Often going for breakfast, my favorite food item to order is their chocolate chip pancakes - they are soft, fluffy, and have the perfect amount of chocolate chips. Once you are done with your meal, you check out at the front cash register with your receipt. Super convenient! read more

Good - Food was fantastic, portions were large, they were sat relatively quickly. Bad - Service was slow. Wanted to come here for quite awhile, drove by and saw a filled parking lot, and thought i was missing out. Turns out, i was not, and won't be going back. To start, soon after sitting down in a corner 4 top, i notice a dirty rag sitting on the rail beside my head. I ask a gentleman who looked to be busing tables if he could move it - he moved it about 3 feet, on the same railing - when i asked again, he moved to the same railing, albeit on the bar side of the space. And did it all with a glare, not exactly a warm feeling generated. As for the food, some was serviceable - a western omelet bagel sandwich (plain bagels only being offered) was ok, altho when we asked for cheddar, what was served was the most mild cheddar (if it was), tasting far more like american cheese. French toast had a very thin coating of egg, seemingly just to add color. The 2 Sausage patties were thin, and a tad saw-dusty. But again, what stands out to me is the dirty rag and the glare directed at me - should have trusted my first instinct and walked out. read more

We were looking for a light dinner before doing some shopping, so we stopped into Fritz's, which we were always curious to try. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, but I couldn't help but be a little grossed out when we were handed menus that I watched come directly from another table of people, and they were not disinfected. I wouldn't usually be bothered by that, but with COVID being as bad as it is right now, I was a little skeeved. I order a hotdog with chili one day and when I picked it up I took one bite and realized it was canned chili to taste like dog food so take it from me and don't ever order a chili dog from Fritz a snack bar. Three weeks ago my buddy went there and had breakfast he ordered a vegetable omelette he got stuck in his throat he went outside and puked ended up in Hartford hospital for two weeks over that nobody even went near him to help him they just left them outside to throw up blood all over the parking lot so stay away from Fritz's snack bar that place sucks. read more

My family has been going to this place for years. Inside there are tables, booths and a counter. There is also an outdoor area where you can order at the window. You can get breakfast all day. Their lunch menu runs the gambit from hot dogs to Caesar salad to fish & chips to meatloaf. I can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal here and the coffee is good. I've lived in Seymour for over 20 years, and today was my first time trying this place. After today's experience, I'm upset I never stopped in earlier. Unlike most diners, all the breakfast dishes are a la carte. They have a great breakfast and lunch selection of typical diner fare, minus the Greek dishes. The atmosphere makes you feel as though you're in a small Midwest town, it's cute, warm and friendly. I ordered a short stack of banana pancakes with a side of corned beef hash and home fries. It was clear as soon as it was served that everything is house made, even the french fries my son got with his blt, and everything was delicious. The portions were fair and the quality of the breakfast was superior to any diner in the area. The best part was the price. For what would have paid for 2 coffees and a tiny premade breakfast sandwich at Starbucks, we got a full breakfast and a full lunch! I have found my new go to breakfast spot! read more

When I was in high school, Fritz's was a tiny diner that was the place to go for breakfast when you skipped school and lunch when you left school early. Aside from knowing the family and the waitress, the food was always good and very inexpensive. The prices are still reasonable and the food is OK. But the menu is pretty basic, diner style so nothing overly impressive. Of course, my tastes have changed through the years so I will take that into consideration in my review. The homefries are definitely not as good as I remembered but I did like the French Toast very much. They make it old-school style, using regular sliced bread (not that Texas Toast shit). I haven't been able to get French Toast like that in years. The coffee was awful and the juice wasn't fresh squeezed - like I said basic diner style. If the service was OK, I would have given Fritz's 3* but it was HORRIBLE. I have worked customer service for over 20 years so I expect good service. Even at a diner style restaurant, I would at least expect decent service but this was beyond bad. The wait staff on the day I was there was 2 high school girls that seemed very bothered to serve us. We were sitting at the table for 10 minutes before the girl even acknowledged us, at which point she came over and finally offered us menus!!! 10 minutes later, she poured coffee and took our order. The food came out hot but coffee refills for my grandmother were pretty much non-existent and they never even checked in to see how we were doing. At one point, my father-in-law flagged down a waitress to ask if he could get a cup of coffee and the girl said, "well, I'm not your waitress so I will find her and have her get it." EXCUSE ME! First rule in customer service, acknowledge your customer. And NEVER say "I am not your waitress" b/c that conveys the message you do not want to help. Either get the coffee (which was literally located in back of our table - less than 5 steps from our table) or let the other server know their customer needs something. read more

They're reasonably priced and generally are timely- although we learned that if you order takeout on a weekend, be prepared to wait a good while for your food. They were out of clam strips so they added extra fish and shrimp which was fine by me. The shrimp was large and fried very well and the flounder was delicious. Still awesome. I'm from Southbury and really want to like a place like Denmo's, but the drive to Oxford for Fritz' is an easy choice for food that is not only better but more fairly priced. Fritz' food is an absolute home run. The menu is large for a "roadside" style place. Lots of breakfast choices; I have yet to have something I didn't love here. The inside is pure awesomeness and a call back to the 50's. Soda fountain, ice cream, milkshakes, a counter you can sit at or a large dining room - yes, it's all there. The only thing missing is some girls in poodle skirts and a jukebox. If you are a hotdog connoisseur, may I recommend the chili and cheese dog? Perfect amount of great tasting chili, what I believe is a deliciously grilled Hummel hotdog on a bun that is perfectly toasted. Shannon is a super server. You'll get your order hot off the grill. Perhaps the most interesting worker there is Andy the busboy--though he's no boy. He's a senior with the energy of a teenager; and, like a tornado, he's always on the move cleaning and resetting tables. He's never goofing off--like some of the other servers there, on their cellphones when customers need them. I lived in Seymour for 8 years and never once tried Fritz's food. I visited my family and they brought me here for a quick dinner. It's seat yourself, inside there's booths and tables and a breakfast bar. If the weather is nice they also have an outdoor patio with picnic tables. All booths and tables were taken so we're sat at the breakfast bar. It was a little awkward seeing as there were 5 of us but we made it work. I ordered the Philly steak and cheese on a hard roll and a side of fries. The fries were hand cut and crispy. The steak on the sandwich was a bit tough and overcooked. My husband ordered a short stack of chocolate chip and banana pancakes. When he got them they were only chocolate chip, I guess our waitresses didn't hear him correctly. He still enjoyed them and I wish I had ordered the same thing. Our waitress seemed busy and distracted. I had finished my water halfway through my meal and asked for a refill which never came. I don't think I would go back here, and if I do I would only order breakfast. Seems like breakfast is their specialty. read more
