Besides Jennifer Lopez, the Bronx may be best known as the birthplace of Hip Hop music, Arthur Avenue Italian bakeries and grocery stores, Yankee Stadium and the NY Yankees. It sure looks like the owners of Oxford's ''The Bronx Deli" are Yankee fans, because their sandwich menu has over 20 choices named after Yankee stars or baseball in general, plus hundreds of NY Yankee photos on their wall. Some of the sandwich names are The Yogi with chicken and eggplant, The Babe with turkey and pepperoni, The O'Neill Deal with ham, sopressata, salami, and provolone, Bern Baby Burn with chicken, hot peppers and mozzarella, and the coolest one -Robbie Cano, Don't Ya Know with Roast Beef, American cheese and red peppers. We wanted to pick up something to have for dinner last night and decided on a Goodfella grinder ($10.99) with Eggplant, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, oil and garlic, and a side of tortellini salad with peppers and sun dried tomatoes. The grinder was terrific -a big loaf of perfect Arthur Avenue bread, plenty of fresh eggplant and mozzarella slices, and nice marinated red pepper slices. (Pro Tip - the Goodfella doesn't include marinara sauce -if you want that order an Eggplant Parmesan sandwich). The tortellini salad was very good as well, plenty of pasta and tomatoes in a balsamic dressing. Our grinder and side totalled just $17 -not bad for a dinner for two. We dealt with two employees. The young lady who rang us up was a sweetheart -super nice and much more engaging than the young man who made our sandwich. As a former Bronxite myself, I loved visiting the Bronx Deli and checking out the photos on the wall. My favorite was an autographed picture of Yankee royalty taken at an Old Timers Day -Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra and Casey Stengel. All are Hall of Famers. Five stars forever for the homerun grinder. It's my favorite hot grinder of all time. That is all.

We stopped in at 5:45 pm to grab a grinder for dinner. One girl was closing up the cold cuts and another was washing trays in the back. We weren't even acknowledged, nothing, not a word. We walked out and ordered a burrito next door. I understand this business closed at 6pm, but this was rude and disrespectful to a customer. That may sound like overstatement, but the bread is out of this world. And there is a reason for this: they source it from Arthur Avenue daily! A little taste of the City right in our area! As for the meats, they are also of top quality. And generously heaped on the sandwich. My favorite is roast beef as it tastes precisely as it should. Picked up sandwiches to go from the Bronx deli following an online order and they were ready as soon as we arrived. The deli is unassuming, but the sandwiches were Bronx quality. The chicken cutlets were thin, crispy, and delicious. The eggplant was soft but perfectly fried. We ordered two giant sandwiches for a party and was really impressed. Staff was helpful in the ordering process. Sandwiches were ready for pickup on time which is always a plus. And everyone said they were delicious. We definitely ordered too much but people went home with hunks of sandwich so perfect party favor. I've had a lot of sandwiches in my life, but nothing beats Bronx Deli. The bread is always fresh and soft, I love the variety of different sandwiches they offer, and the grinders are a great deal. I'm usually a mayo person when it comes to my sandwiches, but I never put it on my sandwiches from Bronx because their balsamic vinaigrette that comes on most of their sandwiches is beyond amazing. I always usually get a side of it no matter what sandwich I get. Highly recommend The Godfather and The Goodfella. I'm a big fan of Italian style delis and this one did not disappoint! I used to work at very popular deli in Hamden many years ago, so I like to believe that that I'm a pretty good judge of quality. The Bronx deli is the best deli in Oxford or maybe even the valley in my opinion! I got The Godfather the service was friendly and fast, the sandwich ingredients were delicious and fresh, and the overall structural integrity of the sandwich (which, I believe to be very important) was nice and solid! This place is bomb. Got myself the spicy chicken grinder. It came on a very fresh sesame seed grinder roll w/ chicken cutlet, hot peppers, mayo, veggies, cheese, hot sauce. There may have been a fried egg on the sandwich too but I was eating it too quickly to notice. Everything was super fresh. I've been a Shelton resident for 4 years and this is by far the best deli I've been to in the valley. I'm not sure how the Nardelli's across the street makes any money with these guys around. This is a real NY/CT deli. Hard rolls - awesome; Boar's head meats and cheeses; and the girl behind the counter has that no nonsense east coast attitude that I appreciate so much considering I am born and raised in CT. My husband and I discovered this place on accident. He went in to see if they had fountain soda, which they did not but he spotted the hard rolls and told me how nice they looked. The next day we went back - nothing says you're in CT than getting an egg and cheese on a hard roll for breakfast. After being very pleased with our choice, my husband decided to go again a few hours later for lunch. He ordred the chicken breast sammy and was again very happy. From that day forward we stopped at the Bronx Deli almost daily. We even introduced this place to my grandmother who lives right up the street and had never been there yet. Bronx Deli used to be good! Went wayyyyy down hill!!!! My girlfriend and I used to go here all the time but the food started to go really down hill. We gave it another try today and were sadly really disappointed! We both got grinders and the bread was burnt to a crisp, it honestly tasted like a day old shoe! This place is as legit as anything in New York City. When I moved to Seymour, I was searching for a deli to handle my Saturday afternoon sandwich runs, but coming up short whenever I searched on the Internet (this was pre-Yelp). Lo and behold, one day I see a beat-up box truck, covered in graffiti, with an Arthur Ave address pulling out of The Bronx Deli parking lot. Yes, this is going to be perfect! Inside I went, and I was not disappointed. I'll forgive their love of the Yankees (Let's Go Met's!) due to their mastery of the Italian Combo (or "The Godfather," as they've coined it). The bread is fresh, soft and incredibly tasty. Boar's Head meats and cheeses, high quality Italian products, and a friendly staff make this place a no-brainer for anyone looking for a good sandwich at an affordable price. They also do catering, and have a few freezers full of ravioli, stuffed shells and other pasta. Their chicken cutlets are made fresh every day, and featured in a variety of sandwiches (I also like the yummy Buffalo Chicken special they feature regularly, with blue cheese, cucumbers and melted cheese). What a huge disappointment, I was all excited to go there because I knew they had homemade gluten-free rolls. While I was waiting all I can hear is a microwave beeping nonstop, I was like I know they can't be reheating everything in the microwave. Yep... I was right, everything was reheated in the microwave. And I noticed that in the cooler they had premade meatballs so you know that they're not making everything homemade there. When they brought my gluten-free roll out of the kitchen I saw him bringing it over on a plate, I looked over the counter and the plate was dirty. I asked the worker what was on the plate and he said oh just chicken. I told him I was highly allergic to gluten and I wanted him to give me a new roll on a clean plate and he proceeded to mumble under his breath. And then I got attitude the rest of the time that I was there. Here's the thing, I am a culinary school graduate and I also have my serve safe certification so I know that there is cross-contamination going on with a dirty plate and my gluten-free roll. Of course I went home and threw out the sandwich because I figured he either spit in it or use the same roll that was on the dirty plate. I will never go to this business again. I love this little deli! When I worked in Oxford, sometimes I would leave for work a little early and stop here and grab lunch for myself. Amazing food! The sandwiches are amazing, they have a vast array of things you can choose from. The salads are HUGE and worth their weight in gold. The staff is super friendly and are patient while your trying to figure out what you want. Their selection of desserts are huge and they will suggest things to you if you don't really know what you want. The sandwiches are huge as well and a half usually fills me up. Awesome location, great hours. They are a *tad* bit pricey, but I'll pay a good amount of money for a REAL deli sandwich anyday. read more

Ingredients and sides like broccoli rabe or chix cutlets don't seem to be made fresh. maybe they just don't have the volume to make them daily.
