First, I want to say that the service was amazing. So friendly, like we had been going there for years. After reading all of the reviews about the corned beef hash, I have to say I was totally disappointed. There is no way that this is house made. I love corned beef hash, and I make it frequently. This restaurant is close to work and sometimes when I am feeling a breakfast, I drive down and get be a BIG breakfast. It has all my favorite and I am full the whole day. Recently we had a lunch meeting at the restaurant. Our party was a bit large so we were seated outside which was nice on a beautiful day. The waitress was nice and friendly. She got our drinks and took our orders. It took awhile to get the food but it seems like it was busy inside. We understood she was trying her best to keep up and we didn't mind the wait. I got a turkey club and it was so good. I love me a simple meal. The fries was good but one of my coworkers did say his was cold. Also I did ask for ketchup but never got it. I've driven thru Connecticut on road trips for over 25 years and each time I try to find a good breakfast place to stop at. I've found good, ok and not so good. Today, I found great. The menu variety, the food quality, the level of service (friendly yet speedy), the spaciousness, the cleanliness...I love this place. The Oscar benedict was outstanding. The search is over. Great spot outside of North Haven. Nothing unusual exactly, just well-made breakfast and lunch. I had the Turkey Club. Not typically much you can do to set this sandwich apart, but this one was great. The bacon was off all sides of the sandwich, giving the turkey a nice salty flavor. Everything came fast and hot. She took our order, no eye contact, no pleasantries. We had to ask for coffee refills and had to remind her for the real maple syrup I asked for when I ordered my pancakes. There should be a greeter at the door. There is a sign that says, "Please wait to be seated". We were waiting for a bit before someone finally came up to us. There should definitely be a greeter at the door. The person who showed us to our seat, could not answer what the "special" coffee flavor of the day was. She had to go back and check. Shouldn't the staff already know what the "specials" of the day are?? At the end of our meal, we asked our server for TWO to go plates. She only brought us ONE to go plate. We then asked a DIFFERENT staff member for another to go plate. She said, "OK". That same server came back to get our payment WITHOUT the to go plate. A THIRD person came up to us and FINALLY gave us our to go plate. The food and atmosphere was great. The staff, not so much. The staff was definitely nice and polite, but incompetent!! Maybe because it was busy when we went, that the staff forgot things?? But even so, when you are working in customer service, you should always stay competent especially during rush hour!! I tip based on service and I was not satisfied with the service here. So I left a rather less than satisfactory tip. read more
