I would not be able to recommend this restaurant after our one and only experience dining there last night. My husband and I are in the area for a weekend getaway and wanted to find a nice place for a date night. We chose Vyne after looking at their menu, which appeared elevated and unique. Pros and Cons below but the spark notes are: Nice atmosphere, good service, bad (and expensive) food. Pros: *The atmosphere is nice. Slightly elevated, beautiful decor, very nice bar area, and the outdoor area is a vibe. *Service was good. Our waitress was kind, efficient and helpful. *Our cocktails were great. Delicious, not wildly overpriced, and fresh. Cons and the reason why I could not recommend going to this restaurant: Overall the food was wildly disappointing, especially at this price point. We paid (with tip and 2 cocktails each) $250 for food we couldn't finish it was so poorly cooked and prepared. * Surf & Turf appetizer (24) - interesting and fresh spring flavor but the shrimp (a main component of the dish) was overcooked. * Scallop entree($44)- Scallops were not cooked well. They were very rubbery, chewy and bouncy. I left two on the plate. The flavor profile was also heavily oil. * Side of Mac&Cheese - now, I have NEVER not finished mac&cheese, it's my absolute favorite food and a treat for me to order. This mac&cheese was so bad that we had 2 bites and didn't finish. For a $9.50 side I would expect something interesting. Maybe a baked dish? Or three cheeses? Anything than what we got - which was shell pasta (undercooked) and a cheese sauce (similar to a Velveeta). There was also a strange aftertaste, almost like a spoiled milk. Besides that aftertaste there was absolutely no flavor. * The Filet Mignon ($52) - maybe the most disappointing of all our dishes with a theme of badly cooked and no flavor. Asked for it cooked medium rare and closer to the rare side - it came to us as a solid medium. The steak didn't seem to be seasoned at all. No flavor. The potatoes had no crisp and absolutely no flavor. There was a generic BBQ sauce on the plate. With no salt and pepper on the table (on purpose with the expectation that everything would be flavored perfectly) it made absolutely no sense to finish a dish that we could make better at home. A truly disappointing meal that we couldn't finish, paid $$$$ for and had to stop at fast food on the way home from because we were still so hungry. I don't review often but I needed to because this is an expensive restaurant for what it is, and I want to make sure people know what they're getting into. We decided to stop at the Vyne on Good Friday . I haven't been to this location in about two years. For an appetizer, we have the wings they were very tasty moist done perfectly. For entrées, I decided to have the salmon. The bartender didn't ask how I'd like it . It was a little overdone and dry. It was just OK . My husband had the linguine clam casino. That was very tasty lots of clams, nice size portion. The last time I was at the Vyne I really enjoyed it. It was more fine dining. This time it was quite casual. The atmosphere is pretty. The service was just fair. The music was quite loud . There was four people sitting at the bar and there was three bartenders, but they were talking with each other they really didn't go out of their way to help us. Stopped in here with the bestie for brunch the other day before I left for a cross country road trip and I have to tell you, I am obsessed with their brunch. We ate upstairs and kicked off with some drinks. I had just an espresso martini, but wow! It packs quite a punch and is delightful, perfectly made. We split some crab benes that were beyond scrummy and then I got huevos rancheros as my main dish. The eggs they make here are absurdly delicious and I highly recommend them. Since I was also having an 11 hour drive ahead of me, I was able to order an iced coffee to go which was FABULOUS. Our server was amazing in bringing me this and he deserves a raise. I'm on vacation visiting friends who brought me here. Beautiful building, location, ambience, decor, lighting. The food and drinks were both amazing! I had the "usual suspect" cocktail, sooooooooo delicious. For appetizers we got the whipped ricotta w/tomato jam and the roasted vegetable. Entrees were also Amazing. Event Space Open House Experience (2023): BACKGROUND: Vyne Restaurant & Bar is far more than what the name suggests. Originally the site of the successful family home furnishing business -- Middlebury Furniture and Home Design-- the Yimoyines family has morphed and expanded their vision to meet more community members' needs. Starting as a side cafe for customers to relax and refresh from decision-making, the furniture store has been moved, and the multiple story shingle-clad building has been modified to support three event spaces. Periodically the spaces are prepared for an open house to allow potential customers to better envision what the site has to offer. EXPERIENCE: The open house was announced on Vyne's Facebook page. Although I'm always curious to learn about the Yimoyines family's expanding enterprise, I looked to attend this event to scout out a potential new site for an annual award event. Three event spaces were set up, and two Vyne event coordinators, Susan and Kendall, were prepared to greet guests and explain the event hosting pricing, options, and thoughtful scheduling policies (no overlapping weddings). Trays of different types of pizza and flutes filled with champagne were served, as well as spectacular cheese, cured meat, fruit, and vegetable platter displays. Several potential vendors, including O'Roarke & Birch Florist, Picture This Entertainment, and the Pink Flamingo Party Company, displayed their products and provided information. I was happy to be able to report that the ground floor option would meet our award event criteria, but was most impressed by the dreamy setting Vyne offers for weddings. There are many locations on site that invite spectacular photo backdrops (e.g. bridge) and props (e.g. lacy iron garden chairs). Especially unique is a bridal suite that overlooks the grounds, allowing the bride a bird's eye view of the unfolding day and a quiet retreat. One thing that has always impressed me about Vyne is the family's active involvement with special events and interaction with customers, so it came as no surprise to find Dean and Linda Yimoyines mingling with visitors. I enjoyed opportunity to speak with Dean to learn more about the family enterprise, as well as express my appreciation for having such a venue in the vicinity of my community. TIP: Definitely encourage event planners to add Vyne to your list of potential sites! Vyne is the most beautiful restaurant I've ever eaten at! The patio is breathtaking, and you feel transported away to somewhere on the European Countryside. Waterfalls, statues, immaculate grounds, twinkle lights, and the most comfortable seating. This particular night, we joined Stacey and her amazing friends for Caribbean Night. Chef Phil never ceases to amaze me! He and his staff are very talented, and everything is always so fresh, flavorful, and spot on. Tonight was no different! I was excited to check out this place early afternoon one weekend. They have a private lot and although it was packed (I guess maybe for a wedding and possibly also the other restaurant?), there was plenty of parking available. Inside was much smaller than expected, but still nice. I was in time for brunch and was really excited to order the Huevos Rancheros, but when I asked for no cheese my server pointed out that the empanadas come with cheese, so I didn't get it (and serious props to him for calling that out for me!). Instead, I went for the duck confit egg rolls and Curry Butternut Salad with blackened chicken. The egg rolls were unimpressive; they were super, super fried and when I took a bite it reminded me of what McDonalds nuggets used to be like. I had significantly higher expectations for $22. But, my salad was lovely! The curry vinaigrette was stellar and the chicken was great. I'd absolutely get this again. read more

I can walk to Vyne from my house. Yet we don't go often. I always thought something was lacking. Because it was a few years since we last went we decided to go. Man they upped their game. The inside and outside of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. They have a nice patio area with great water features and mature landscaping. I would recommend eating outside on a nice day. It's very relaxing outside. So the menu is a mix of Italian and American Favorites. They serve steaks, seafood, pastas, salads and everything in between. The drink and wine list is extensive. What I can appreciate about their wine list is that they have some very affordable options. I got a few glasses of the Pinot Noir for $12. Not too bad. For the main course we ordered the calamari, penne Ala Vodka, NY strip and the short ribs. Calamari was really good. Nice and perfectly crispy. The two sauces are a nice touch. I always prefer marinara since I don't like to dip fat in more fat. Penne Ala Vodka was my kids dish. It's creamy and rich in flavor. While I don't think they make their own pasta it was still a very tasty dish. The NY strip was also perfectly cooked. And with two sides that it comes with its not a bad deal at all. Is it in the same competiton as a Capital Grill or a Flemings? No. But it can hold its own. Short ribs was the only negative of the meal. It was a bit too salty. Maybe in the slow cooker for too long? It was definitely fall off the bone tender but too salty. Didn't get to stay for dessert. The family that owns this restaurant has not been sitting on their laurels. You can tell the effort that they are putting in to create a polished product. My husband and I decided to visit Vyne for a Saturday, impromptu lunch. We hadn't been there in a while, but were pleasantly surprised when we decided to have lunch there. I really wanted to like this restaurant (again) after hearing about this new chef but I honestly don't think it was worth the money. First, Wine selection (glasses) were very average and very overpriced. Second, let's coach the staff not to call their guest "buddy" (I can get that at local pizza place). Third, I had the NY Strip Special priced at $48 and it was very chewy and barely warm...it needs to come out spitting at you on a hot plate. On top of all that it is extremely loud and tables competing to be heard on top of the wedding dance floor on the floor above. I get it that there is alot of cost in this place but there are choices people will make when the value and service cant keep up with the experience. read more

We went on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch, ate in the dining room, there was one other small group there at the time, they were finishing up their meal. Our waitress smiled but was not happy to be there , service was very slow, I have no idea of what other duties she had but we waited a long time for everything. We finally saw our food on the warming tray, by the time we got it, it was lukewarm at best. I enjoyed my meal very much. But it was such a bizarre experience. First off, this place is huge. And it's not terribly clear where the entrance is. The decor is confusing. It's somewhere between cheesecake factory, and The Inn At Pound Ridge. I won't give a long winded explanation as to why my review is 3 stars, but it comes down to the service. Our waitress was perfectly average at the start. And quickly devolved into one of the worst I've ever had. Her presence was non-existant after we placed our order, and so was the glass of rose my grandmother ordered. I don't think I've experienced apathy on this level at a restaurant of this price-point, and it was truly disappointing. Service aside, my food was excellent. I got the pineapple salmon, and it was killer. The sushi appetizer was 6.5/10. It didn't really make a lot of sense, but I enjoyed it, even if $38 is a bit of a stretch for an app. The cocktails were really good too. I orderd an old fashioned and a Manhattan. And I actually received them. Which is always a plus. Even if it took an excruciating amount of time. If our server would've been on her game, we would've ordered another round or 2. I thought overall, it was good. Even if the quality of the food was overshadowed by less than mediocre service. I want to say I'll be back to give it another shot, but I'm not sure. $250+ tip, for poor service at a nice restaurant is not something I take lightly. read more

Last night's Glenville Wine Dinner was so much fun and informative at the same time. I really enjoyed learning about all of the pairings and why they pair so great with certain types of foods. Of course, the staff at Vyne is always top notch and the ambiance is amazing. If you haven't been- this is your call to action. I can't wait to see it in the spring as well. For the wine dinner- we started with Crispy Potato Latkes with Dill Cream, Smoked Sturgeon, Osetra Caviar, Quail Egg and it was paired with Chardonnay. Up next, the Roasted Tri Color Beet Salad with Dried Cherries, Almonds, Goat Cheese, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil paired with Pinot Noir. Loved the shell it came in. Third course was Organic Free Range Chicken and Cacio E Pepe Sauce with Sundried Tomatoes Served with Ravioli paired with Petite Syrah. This wine was my favorite! Fourth course was the Porcini Dusted Colorado Lamb Chop with Sweet Potato Risotto With Crispy Fried Artichoke Hearts paired with Cabernet Sauvignon. Scallops unreal. So delicious. Loved the arugula ravioli underneath. Went perfectly with the light butter sauce. Zested Lemon on top blended perfectly. $44 a bit steep but very good. Bread at the table was delicious. Rosemary? hints and a lightly whipped sweet butter. Nice wine list. I recommended the salmon to my boyfriend for I got this dish last time I was here a bit over a year ago and loved the maple blended with the couscous/risotto it was over but they changed the recipe a bit. Risotto was cheesy this time and was a bit rich. Would have gave Vyne a 5 if it wasn't for that change (he said salmon a bit dry too) and prices are high. I recently visited Vyne for the first time to celebrate a friend's birthday and I was blown away by the wonderful experience that we had. We had a rather early dinner reservation and we were greeted so warmly by several members of the staff and given our choice of where we wanted to sit, the dining room or the lounge. We ultimately went with the lounge because it was more our vibe and we loved the overall atmosphere. I went there knowing that I wanted two things, seafood and steak, so we ordered shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque, and oysters on the half shell to start. We originally wanted the seafood tower but that wasn't available but it worked out well because we would have been too full to finish our entrees if we had gotten it. The seafood was so fresh and the bisque was some of the best I've ever tasted. I had the 8oz center cut filet mignon with whipped potatoes, grilled asparagus and truffle butter for my entree and dare I say, the quality of this steak rivaled some of the best steakhouses I've ever been to. The whipped potatoes were so creamy and I found myself dipping forkfuls in the truffle butter which had the most wonderful umami flavor. The service was fantastic overall. Someone in our group accidentally broke their cocktail glass and they took it away and made a whole new cocktail for him. You really can't go wrong w/this gem! The property inside & out is gorgeous. The outdoor space offers a cozy ambiance w/a European flare. The interior offers several options for events from a milestone birthday to a wedding. The main dining area is so warm & inviting. I assisted w/planning an 80th birthday luncheon in Oct & it was such a lovely time had by all. The food, drinks, staff were all amazing! We used the downstairs space which had its own bar, bathrooms & entrance w/white linen for the table & family style food. I just went to an event & had just the same wonderful experience. Wow- What a phenomenal experience start to finish! First impression- the pictures don't do it justice! Absolutely breathtaking- gorgeous lighting, stonework, and countless waterfalls! This food was outstanding, we couldn't decide so we ordered everything- literally! The salad with house white balsamic was delicious, corn corner was excellent, as well as the shrimp cocktail. I tasted a little of everyone's dinner- chicken Milanese, pot roast special, filet mignon, and Capellini Fileto Pomodoro - highly recommend all of them. Don't forget the sides- roasted Brussels, and whipped potatoes melt in your mouth. And if you're a coconut lover... The almond Joy dessert (pictured) was the way to end the night. The service was excellent - our server, the manager and owner were all so kind and attentive. I even got a tour of their gorgeous banquet facility! Instead, it was served with only meets, cheese, apricot jam and nuts. Where were the vegetables and honey?!?!? the waiter asked and was told they serve the apricot jam instead of the honey, no veggies. Not that satisfying and had I known that they no longer provide the veggies and honey, I wouldn't have order the entree. No apologies, no explanation, just that's the way it is. Jan 2024- We came here as a group for a birthday dinner. The staff was pleasant, and our waitress was very attentive to us and our needs. We had several different appetizers and shared thru the table. I did try the pork belly appetizer and it was delicious but very spicy -- definitely worth a try if you're ever here. The place is charming as soon as you arrive. We arrived from the parking lot below. The food was delicious. But honestly I enjoyed the crème brûlée the most. It was a chocolate crème brûlée which I've never tasted before. It was creamy and the flavor was rich, sweet and mild- an amazing balance for a dessert. Loved it! Just attended a Wedding here this afternoon it was absolutely amazing walking up to the place beautiful Angel fountain and gorgeous little Water Falls. When you walk inside it has that beautiful elegant country side to it I just fell in love with how beautiful the inside was. The Food was actually pretty good I couldn't find nothing wrong with it, the mashed potatoes were divine, chicken was spot on not dry and very delicious, the pasta was creamy not over powering in the sauce and not acidy. The Server's walked around with drinks and some Steak things on a stick they were so delicious we almost got full just eating those alone. New to this part of CT- looking to move to this area and stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday night for dinner after touring a nearby property. Had never heard of Vyne but looked up some reviews and decided to take the chance. It was actually confusing to find the entrance in. And when we did- we still weren't sure if it was the right place as no one was there to greet us. No hostess or host. Finally someone came and took us to the bar dining area. Very nice aesthetic. Not good food- especially for the price. I did get the French Onion soup to start and that was delicious. My husband had lamb lollipops- meh. My son and daughters pasta meals were fine- nothing to write home about. My steak was horrible. It had seared grill marks into it but tasted charred on the outside. Every bite tasted burnt. My son had some and said the same. I had three bites and pushed my plate away. No one came by to ask how everything was. Our server was nowhere to be found. It wasn't worth getting anything else as it felt like we had been forgotten in the corner. My husbands dish was tough. Hard to chew. I think our bill was close to $200. Never again. When we finally close on our house- we will just order pizza or stick to better restaurants. read more

The prices are steep and the portions are quite large. The truffle fries were very good - so I might suggest coming for the drinks and fries / apps.
