Community Table was a fantastic find and easily one of the best meals we've had in the area. We started with a couple of excellent cocktails before sharing every course. The smoked trout dip was outstanding, especially paired with the incredible house-made seeded crackers. The spring pea soup was fresh, vibrant, and absolutely delicious. For our mains, we shared the duck breast, which was cooked perfectly and served with an exceptional beet purée. We also ordered the trumpet mushrooms, which turned out to be the ideal complement to the duck. To finish, we shared the orange upside-down cake, a light, flavorful dessert that was the perfect ending to a memorable meal. The experience was made even better by Hannah, who provided warm, attentive service with a wonderful disposition that made us feel genuinely welcome. Beautifully prepared food, thoughtful flavor combinations, and impeccable execution throughout. We'll definitely be back. read more

service was great with a nice classy ambiance, overall a cute establishment that specializes in fresh food. I love how they listed all the farms they source their food from, a nice touch to know they take that part seriously. my main gripe is for the amount of food you get the price is quite egregious. over 40 for 3 scallops is quite steep. read more

I haven't been in years and it's still going strong. It wasn't five stars for us as there were some service faux pas but that doesn't take away from the food and ambiance. The sourdough bread with fresh butter is an absolute must. Don't even think about it. Pasta bolognese was the top two we've ever had. The other being in Miami. The vegan dish kinda blah and super messy and oily. I'm grateful to have a veg option but wouldn't order that again. Sadly, we had no room for dessert after stuffing our faces with bread. It's a lovely restaurant in the country for those lovely Connecticut days when you're meandering about, read more

Community Table is what Jeremy Clarkson is trying to do in England. They do have some picnic tables out back, but they must be so hot! The menu (going to Mr. Clarkson) is local and seems to change seasonal. They do "cite their sources" and calls out which local farm an ingredient came from. I recommend a reservation, it gets you out of sitting at the bar. The menu is divided by type of food, like chicken, seafood, etc, and those types are divided by appetizer, solid like, and then entrees. The food was amazing. I am a little mad I didn't have a spoon to scoop up the egg yolk on my asparagus. Everything was perfectly cooked, and I left wanting more. The restroom decided I vanished while washing my hands, and then it was too dark to see me trying to activate the lights. That was an experience! read more

I like to discover great new-to-me restaurants, but my wife is very good at it too. She recently made a reservation for us at @communitytablect, a New American restaurant in New Preston in Litchfield County. We were both very impressed. The atmosphere is terrific. The natural colored woods. The angles of the walls and ceilings. The art. Service was top notch. The menu is organized in a nontraditional way. There are no starters, salads and entrees. There are items from the Garden, the Sea and the Farm. And you may mix and match from Chef Bolivar Hilario's offerings as you please. The plating was artful. The textures and colors were well designed. The dishes were flavorful. We ordered the Bramble cocktail, a super crusty 5 Grain Sourdough with cultured butter, Squash Blossoms stuffed with shrimp Mousselin, Roasted Badger Flamed Beets with pickled kohlrabi, Ribeye with puréed celery root, Blue Corn Flower Tlayuda with Oracle Mushrooms and Cauliflower Puree. The cocktail was delicious. The sourdough was a crusty masterpiece. The ribeye was perfectly cooked, and cut into sort of a filet shape. The celery root puree had a smooth texture, and was tasty. My wife's dishes were very good too. 4.5 Stars read more

I have never written a review, let alone a bad one. But this experience has me vexed. We really wanted to like this restaurant. My girlfriend and I have heard nothing but great things from the restaurant, the service, and the food. We looked at the menu prior to our reservation, and it seemed like everything sounded good. After being seated, we waited 10-15 minutes before our waiter came over to greet us. When he did, we never got his name, and his tone was very dry. His tone remained dry the entire night, even though we saw him being jovial with other tables. He then came over with sparkling water, filled each glass with about 6-8oz of water, and then proceeded to never refill each glass for the rest of the night. After ordering our first and second course, our waiter asked if we would like some sourdough bread, that we wouldn't regret it. When the bread came, immediately it looked delicious. Hearty seeded sourdough, with a whipped butter. However, the bread was not cut even halfway through. We had to resort to ripping the bread apart due to not having a bread knife. I digress. My girlfriend ordered a mocktail which was quite delicious. The sourdough was also very tasty. For our appetizer, we ordered the Blue Fin Tuna Nigiri, and the Hay Smoked Beet Salad. The beet salad was better suited for my girlfriend, as she thought it was good. My crispy nigiri, while it tasted good, was devoid of the flavors that I was expecting. It was supposed to have lacto-fermented siracha, and habanada peppers. There was absolutely no spice to the tuna, and it tasted like the cubed tuna was tossed in a light mayonnaise with sesame seeds. The crispy rice was far overcooked, to where the inside of the rice turned into a sticky pine tar like glue, and the outside was hard like concrete. A butter knife barely was able to crack through. For our entrée, we ordered the Seared Scallops and the Pan Roasted Duck. The scallops, was supposed to be with cauliflower, apples, almonds, and browned butter. The scallops came out cooked good, with a decent Maillard. However, not a speck of seasoning on the entire dish. The "cauliflower" was more like a broccolini, which was rock hard, and undercooked. There was not even the slightest hint of apple on the plate. The "browned butter" was almost inedible, and had a rancid flavor to it. At the end of my girlfriend's meal, she was actually disgusted. My duck, was cooked to a perfect medium rare. But as soon as the plate was in front of me, I was hit with an overwhelming smell of wild game. The duck proceeded to taste even more gamey. This may have been masked if there was even a granule of salt on the dish. The rest of the dish was just underwhelming. Undercooked, bland, and out-of-place wedge of purple cabbage just felt like an afterthought. The sugar plums were practically mush. The sauces were also just lacking substance, and had flavors that were just muted. The waiter never came over to see how our meal was, never refilled our water, never asked if my girlfriend wanted another mocktail. I would expect better service at a restaurant of this caliber. He also then brought over only one dessert menu due to being "short of menus". After giving us our check, he took another 10-15 minutes to come back to take our card. The entire experience was quite unpleasant. The food was underwhelming, and the service was poor. I cannot say that we will ever come back. read more

Haven't been to community table in several years and so thrilled I went! It was a fourth anniversary, although I didn't mention that to the white person as this being a special occasion meal. I just so happened when I was seated in my significant other had stopped off in the bathroom. She asked me if it was a special occasion and I said yeah fourth anniversary, but didn't really think anything of it. Well, we ordered our dinner and everything was delicious perfectly executed beautiful presentation top quality ingredients. I have nothing negative to say about the food. It was nothing but spectacular! And I thought it was incredibly sweet that the white person brought a scoop of ice cream to our table with the candle without me even asking. Very cute gesture. Definitely the best restaurant I've been to in the area and would go back again and again. read more

Genuinely one of the best meals I've ever had! Each dish had so many different yet harmonious flavor profiles. The place is incredibly unassuming on the outside but once we were in, we were greeted with kind staff and a cozy (yet still upscale) setting. Wishing we lived nearby to experience how their menu changes seasonally but glad we got to try it at all. 5/5! read more

We booked Community Table for a birthday dinner and had high hopes, given its reputation as an upscale dining spot in the area. The atmosphere is lovely, and it feels like the kind of place you'd go for a special occasion. Unfortunately, the experience left us disappointed. Our server recommended the ribeye for two, priced at $135. I specifically asked about the portion size since we were already ordering two appetizers, and she reassured us it was a "perfect portion for two." In reality, the dish was enormous--easily enough for four people. The cut was massive (at least 3.5 inches thick, around 20 ounces per person) and came out undercooked. We had requested medium rare, but the steak was rare, which gave it a metallic, gamey taste. Because the cut was so thick, the fat hadn't properly rendered, leaving the texture gloopy and unappetizing. The steak was also completely unseasoned, and the accompanying cherry sauce was an odd pairing--far too sweet for such a fatty cut. The sides were vegetable-based, delicate, and actually quite good, but their scale and style made them feel more suited for a filet rather than such a heavy ribeye. My wife couldn't eat more than a single piece of her steak, and when her plate was cleared, no one asked why most of her food was untouched. At restaurants of this caliber, that kind of attentiveness is usually expected. We ended the meal with the profiterole, which was unfortunately hard as a rock. My wife ate it only because she was still hungry after not being able to stomach the steak. What stung the most wasn't just the food, but the lack of honesty and care. When a guest asks about portion size, accuracy matters--especially with such an expensive entree. It felt as though we were being upsold without transparency, and the lack of attentiveness when plates went back barely touched added to the disappointment. In total, the bill came to about $400 for two people. Price is not an issue when the food and service are exceptional, but that simply wasn't the case here. Sadly, while the setting was charming, the experience did not match the high expectations or the cost. read more

We have celebrated special occasions at Community Table for many years and have always enjoyed our experiences there, which makes this review disappointing to write. Our party of four spent over $800 celebrating my mother's birthday. A few hours after the meal, my brother became seriously ill, and because I had also sampled his chicken dish and later experienced nausea myself, we were concerned the illness may have been related to the meal. When we contacted the restaurant to share our concerns, the conversations with management were disappointing. Joanne spoke separately with several members of our family and asked whether my brother had gone to the hospital, undergone testing, or had proof of illness. When I asked whether the restaurant maintained food safety documentation, I felt the question was viewed as accusatory rather than as part of a reasonable concern following our visit. Overall, the interaction lacked the empathy and reassurance we had hoped for. No refund, credit, or acknowledgment was offered. As longtime customers who have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones here over the years, the response was surprising. Beyond the health concern, the overall dining experience felt noticeably less positive than in past visits. The bread exterior was very hard, and we noticed other nearby tables eating only the soft interior. The vegetables served with the scallops were tough, the pasta was dry, and most of the dishes (except for the pea soup) lacked flavor. The deserts were lackluster, though the goat cheese cheesecake was delicious. The cheese board appetizer was presented without explanation of the cheeses or accompaniments. Crumbs were not cleared between courses. While our server was friendly, we were repeatedly asked whether we had finished dessert, which made the evening feel somewhat rushed during a birthday celebration. The server also spent time discussing personal matters during service, which distracted from the dining experience. We had to find someone to get our coats otherwise we would've walked out without them. The ambiance at Community Table remains beautiful, which makes the experience especially unfortunate after so many positive visits over the years. Unfortunately, after this experience, our family will likely celebrate future special occasions at other restaurants in Litchfield County that we feel provide a stronger overall dining experience. read more

Community Table is our favorite restaurant in Connecticut and we were lucky enough to have them cater our wedding. Joann the owner took care of everything from the extraordinary food and staff, to recommendations for tent rental, plates, cutlery, flowers etc. Everything was top notch. The chef Bolivar was exceptional and the catering staff top tier and fun to talk to. Each guest was blown away by the ambience, food, cocktails, all of it. I couldn't recommend CT more highly. I would trust Joann to pull off any event, even with short notice. We had a dream wedding thanks to Community Table. read more

Big prices, tiny serving sizes. We were surprised by the prices but decided to go for it. When our plates arrived the amount of food reminded me of an April Fools joke I read about this morning. The scallops listed a side of mashed cauliflower and apple on the menu that turned out to be the size of a walnut. The duck was the smallest portion of duck that I have ever seen for a main course- 2 small slices. We were so hungry when we finished, so we ordered the bread, which was delicious. We were still so hungry when we left that we drove into Litchfield and went to another restaurant. read more

Community Table is becoming our "Go To" spot. It's so much fun to eat dinner at the bar, chat with the personable bartenders and have a fabulous meal while at the lake. The Sourdough Durum Rolls as well as the Sweet Pea Hummus as a must have. The Shrimp and Scallop ceviche is also worth an order and if you're trying to eat lightly, have this. It's full of flavor and the perfect portion. I tried the trout with low expectations and I hope to have it again: it was that good! The ambiance is simple, crisp and CT chic in its own way. One of the best restaurants in all of Western Connecticut, and probably the best in Litchfield County. Farm-to-table, (to-mouth!) it offers a well thought out menu of starters, entrees and desserts. Limited selection menu means everything is fresh; harvested locally and prepared perfectly. Stay away if you don't want to feel discriminated against for having children. Took over a week and much wasted time - three emails, two voicemails, multiple phone calls - to chase down their "managing partner" Joann to inquire about a large group reservation for 18 people. Asked if she could send any info via email as it was impossible pinning her down and she was unable to keep appointments or commit to a time to speak. Finally after getting her on the phone, she says that they cannot accommodate us because we have 6 children (between the ages of 5 and 16). Would have been nice if she informed me of that via email to save me time, but I guess you don't want that kind of discrimination in writing. Never been turned down at a restaurant for bringing kids to dinner. Terrible management practices and interacting with prospective customers. read more

Great food, service. Atmosphere. Love the cozy vibe. Every item on menu was outstanding. Nothing we did not love. We had a wonderful time at community table. Even on a Monday they were pretty busy. We have dined at community table several times over the years. On our last visit their menu had a Nordic focus which wasn't our favorite. This week we felt like it was a return to the style of cooking that made us fall in love with community table the first time we went there. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we had, but the stand out item was the perfectly cooked duck. The fat was nicely rendered, the skin was crispy, and the portions were just right. It's a bit of a drive for us but well worth it for special occasions. read more

A fun experience was had at the Community Table, all within an intimate environment while offering truly unique and inspired food and drink. Our server provided great suggestions and was very attentive. The Smoke Show cocktail featuring Bourbon, vanilla, homemade Amaretto, Luxardo, with cherry wood smoke was good but not great. It lacked a depth that was found within similar style drinks at other restaurants. Two must have shared options are the CT Sourdough Pumpernickel Rolls with Rosemary Olive Oil, Moromi Miso & Maple Butter and the Paffenroth Gardens French Onion Spread featuring Greek Yogurt, Crispy Shallots, Crudités, and seeded crackers. You need these in your life! Onto entrees, first sampled was the Cassoulet de Chasseurs with Toplands Farm Sausage, Duck Confit, Braised Wild Hive Farm Beans, and Crispy Pork Belly. This dish presented exceptionally well visually but lacked in flavor and the pork belly was very tough and difficult to cut through, even with a sharp knife. Lastly the price was eye opening for such a small portion size. The Marinated Wagyu Bavette Steak with Creamed Chickpeas, Roasted Cauliflower, Green Peppercorn Sauce, and Roasted Yellowfoot Chanterelles again presented well visually but was tough and overall unimpressive. Finally, the Seared Atlantic Scallops, Carrot-Cardamom Purée, Tamarind Chutney, Pickled Cauliflower, Onion Chutney, with Puffed Rice was perfection based on the sear of the scallops, wonderful flavors and just right portion size. It is important to note that I do not fear high prices, especially when the food quality meets expectations. However on some dishes and cocktails the price exceeded the quality or portion size expectations when compared against other similar style restaurants. This was our first visit to Community Table with much more going right than not, so I will definitely be back to try this restaurant again. read more

I visited Community Table a little over a week ago for my birthday dinner and I'm happy I did. The restaurant was very rustic yet homey. The hostess and owner Joanna was very kind and sat me right away upon arrival. For my appetizer I chose the yeast rolls: paired with the butter it is life changing so please get the rolls! Lol For my main I chose the sea bass which was very flavorful (many times upscale restaurants present pretty dishes lacking in flavor- that's not the case here). For dessert I chose the chocolate cremeux which was tasty as well. If you're ever in the Litchfield Hills area it's a must that you make a reservation and visit this restaurant. Fresh, clear flavors in upscale fare. The food is "upscale" - presentation, styling, ingredients, etc. - but the place is more like "upscale casual". Which isn't a bad thing, given the locale - this feels like something that would be absolutely at home in Napa. All that said, you really should check the place out if you're in the 'hood... My previous review ONLY pertained to Chef Christian Hunter's tenure at Community Table. He is gone. I will not be back. Chef Hunter's food was life changing. It transcended the vibe here and the service miscues for a place positioning itself as "fine dining" and the general feeling that a "single female diner" was not welcome... Without Chef Hunter's food? There is no reason for me to visit Community Table again. read more

I have eaten here twice. Both times part of the meal was excellent good & part of the just ok. Both times the service was not great. Overworked waitresses. Very expensive restaurant for the area & service doesn't match the cost. Tables are very close together and it's a bit difficult to get around/get up. My first meal here was supposed to be a "complimentary meal" for husband volunteering to rid the restaurant of its beaver problem causing flooding (labor intensive). The bill was presented & it was over $300. One drink was ordered. Not the warm thanks we expected. Second visit was someone's birthday so it wasn't up to me to choose restaurant. 3 people, no alcohol and another $300. Honestly I would only return if someone picked up the tab. Too bad as its a good location for us local beaver hunters. read more

Community table is simply outstanding. We are admittedly New York City snobs who dine Michelin restaurants, amongst other top tier culinary experiences, and community table is the best restaurant that we have found in Litchfield County. The food is fresh, tasty, inventive. It inspires me as a home chef to experiment with new ingredients and textures. We've been there maybe three or four times now and it was supposed to be a place where we only go on special occasions but it's turned into maybe an every-other-month sort of treat :) The owner is not the most gregarious but obviously she is a very busy, hard-working person and now that we've been there a few times, she is making it a point to come over and welcome us back. I appreciate her for making that effort and we will continue to dine at community table. read more

It's adorable. It's delicious. Its thoughtful, intentional, and it shows. My husband and I have been road tripping through New England and found this place while staying in Torrington. They were able to fit us in and I'm so glad they did - CT was completely hopping on a Monday (!) so we were lucky to get a table. We started with the sourdough cardamom buns, which made me have a religious experience. I love baking (and trying baked goods) so much, so once I saw these on the menu, I knew we had to have them. The outside was so crispy and salty, the inside so fragrant and pillowy, it just melted. I've only had one other pastry as good as this and that was from a bakery in Iceland. Holding in the the intense joy this caused was really difficult. The bar was set really high with the buns, but everything that followed was equally as good. We also tried the steelhead trout and chicken thighs, both of which were fantastic. Having never had corn risotto before I was a bit skeptical, but I needn't have worried - it was a delight! A note to anyone trying the chicken thighs - they do contain cilantro (which is noted on the menu), so be mindful if you are one of the unfortunate soap-tasting folks. If they can make it without it, this dish is worth it. We finished with the peach galette, which was also a triumph. Whomever the pastry chef is, they deserve a million raises and high fives. I will say that CT is on the expensive side, but overall worth it to us. I felt that the cocktail prices were a bit high for what I got, though. Everything was absolutely delicious, fresh, and clearly made with love. Thank you so much for fitting us in and giving us some excellent food memories - I'll be thinking about those cardamom buns for a long time. read more

This is an excellent restaurant in the Litchfield County area. I was spending a few days in this area and we had such a fabulous meal that we wanted to go back for dinner the next night! The service, ambiance, and food is all amazing. This is a farm to table restaurant where the menu changes nightly, and everything is local and seasonal. Me and my S/O dined here for our anniversary this past weekend. We came in very excited to explore the menu after seeing such great reviews. We order the chilled tomato bisque and the shishito chaat to start, followed by the ribeye and scallops as our main, and last the chocolate cremuex for dessert. Unfortunately the $48 ribeye that was suppose to be prepared medium rare was served medium-medium well and the whole dish was cold. The steak was underwhelming which is always a disappointment when you're hoping to get what you pay for. And the potatoes and creamed greens were lacking in flavor. However I will say the ribeye was surprisingly tender. The scallops dish was definitely the better of the two. More flavorful but also nothing exceptional. We would have loved to bring this up to our server but we were hungry and trying to make a show so we just ate our meals. We did enjoy the ambiance and service. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I'm sad to say our $200 meal was not worth it for us and I don't see a point in returning. read more

It's very few restaurants that can check off all the boxes...CT is one of them. We have had the privilege to dine at Michelin establishments reaching from Copenhagen to Maui, etc and the ambience, service, food quality all deserve The menu was wide ranging but not intimidating. A hidden gem in washington, Connecticut that takes the term "farm to table" to a new realm. An intimate experience with a smaller menu to concentrate on the quality of food being prepared and served. Interior of the facility is very welcoming, with bar seating along with tables. The lighting itself is even relaxing as they dont use any blue light or other bright lights in the dining area. Had the CT sourdough yeast rolls with smoked honey butter. The rolls have a fluffy interior with a firm, crisp exterior. The butter though; out of this world. A must have for anyone who appreciates quality butter.  A great selection of cocktails, I went with the bourbon crisp which has a very subtle touch of bourbon whiskey, complimented by apple cider and fresh ginger juice. The autumn gin blossom has taken my love of gin to an even higher level of appreciation from an infusion with chamomile mixed with pomegranate. New england cheeses from the First section of the menu had a well-balanced variety for a charcuterie board. The honey comb stood out above all. The salmon dip was an incredible experience with seed crackers and veggies for dipping in a perfectly salmon infused dip. This salmon dip has my vote for must have off the menu. Sweet potatoe wedges were crisp and sweet, with a delicious beer ketchup! I am not a fan of ketchup whatsoever, but this was truly something unique. Lump crab wontons will push your idea of wontons to a new level of cuisine, a crispy, creamy journey through the taste buds. The pheasant was well cooked, juicy and a savory burst of flavor. There is so much going on with this dish from the chewy texture of the mushrooms, crunch of the kale and sweet, silky pheasant sent me into a food bliss. Overall this is an amazing dining experience that is well worth the extra money. Not many other restaurants offer the same quality of ingredients alone, not to mention the clearly evident expertise of those in the kitchen. Service was exquisite and consistent without ever feeling like you are "waiting" on the next thing. read more
