Community Table is what Jeremy Clarkson is trying to do in England. They do have some picnic tables out back, but they must be so hot! The menu (going to Mr. Clarkson) is local and seems to change seasonal. They do "cite their sources" and calls out which local farm an ingredient came from. I recommend a reservation, it gets you out of sitting at the bar. The menu is divided by type of food, like chicken, seafood, etc, and those types are divided by appetizer, solid like, and then entrees. The food was amazing. I am a little mad I didn't have a spoon to scoop up the egg yolk on my asparagus. Everything was perfectly cooked, and I left wanting more. The restroom decided I vanished while washing my hands, and then it was too dark to see me trying to activate the lights. That was an experience!

I like to discover great new-to-me restaurants, but my wife is very good at it too. She recently made a reservation for us at @communitytablect, a New American restaurant in New Preston in Litchfield County. We were both very impressed. The atmosphere is terrific. The natural colored woods. The angles of the walls and ceilings. The art. Service was top notch. The menu is organized in a nontraditional way. There are no starters, salads and entrees. There are items from the Garden, the Sea and the Farm. And you may mix and match from Chef Bolivar Hilario's offerings as you please. The plating was artful. The textures and colors were well designed. The dishes were flavorful. We ordered the Bramble cocktail, a super crusty 5 Grain Sourdough with cultured butter, Squash Blossoms stuffed with shrimp Mousselin, Roasted Badger Flamed Beets with pickled kohlrabi, Ribeye with puréed celery root, Blue Corn Flower Tlayuda with Oracle Mushrooms and Cauliflower Puree. The cocktail was delicious. The sourdough was a crusty masterpiece. The ribeye was perfectly cooked, and cut into sort of a filet shape. The celery root puree had a smooth texture, and was tasty. My wife's dishes were very good too. 4.5 Stars

I have never written a review, let alone a bad one. But this experience has me vexed. We really wanted to like this restaurant. My girlfriend and I have heard nothing but great things from the restaurant, the service, and the food. We looked at the menu prior to our reservation, and it seemed like everything sounded good. After being seated, we waited 10-15 minutes before our waiter came over to greet us. When he did, we never got his name, and his tone was very dry. His tone remained dry the entire night, even though we saw him being jovial with other tables. He then came over with sparkling water, filled each glass with about 6-8oz of water, and then proceeded to never refill each glass for the rest of the night. After ordering our first and second course, our waiter asked if we would like some sourdough bread, that we wouldn't regret it. When the bread came, immediately it looked delicious. Hearty seeded sourdough, with a whipped butter. However, the bread was not cut even halfway through. We had to resort to ripping the bread apart due to not having a bread knife. I digress. My girlfriend ordered a mocktail which was quite delicious. The sourdough was also very tasty. For our appetizer, we ordered the Blue Fin Tuna Nigiri, and the Hay Smoked Beet Salad. The beet salad was better suited for my girlfriend, as she thought it was good. My crispy nigiri, while it tasted good, was devoid of the flavors that I was expecting. It was supposed to have lacto-fermented siracha, and habanada peppers. There was absolutely no spice to the tuna, and it tasted like the cubed tuna was tossed in a light mayonnaise with sesame seeds. The crispy rice was far overcooked, to where the inside of the rice turned into a sticky pine tar like glue, and the outside was hard like concrete. A butter knife barely was able to crack through. For our entrée, we ordered the Seared Scallops and the Pan Roasted Duck. The scallops, was supposed to be with cauliflower, apples, almonds, and browned butter. The scallops came out cooked good, with a decent Maillard. However, not a speck of seasoning on the entire dish. The "cauliflower" was more like a broccolini, which was rock hard, and undercooked. There was not even the slightest hint of apple on the plate. The "browned butter" was almost inedible, and had a rancid flavor to it. At the end of my girlfriend's meal, she was actually disgusted. My duck, was cooked to a perfect medium rare. But as soon as the plate was in front of me, I was hit with an overwhelming smell of wild game. The duck proceeded to taste even more gamey. This may have been masked if there was even a granule of salt on the dish. The rest of the dish was just underwhelming. Undercooked, bland, and out-of-place wedge of purple cabbage just felt like an afterthought. The sugar plums were practically mush. The sauces were also just lacking substance, and had flavors that were just muted. The waiter never came over to see how our meal was, never refilled our water, never asked if my girlfriend wanted another mocktail. I would expect better service at a restaurant of this caliber. He also then brought over only one dessert menu due to being "short of menus". After giving us our check, he took another 10-15 minutes to come back to take our card. The entire experience was quite unpleasant. The food was underwhelming, and the service was poor. I cannot say that we will ever come back.

Genuinely one of the best meals I've ever had! Each dish had so many different yet harmonious flavor profiles. The place is incredibly unassuming on the outside but once we were in, we were greeted with kind staff and a cozy (yet still upscale) setting. Wishing we lived nearby to experience how their menu changes seasonally but glad we got to try it at all. 5/5!

We had a big group birthday dinner, and it was great! Our waitress was very attentive, and the food was delicious. I was a little nervous because of the small menu... but wow! I had the cabbage and it was soo good. This place is over an hour drive but I might come back if they have that still... it was a mix of sesame oil and garlic flavor, delicious! My partner had the chicken dish which was interesting but also very good.

The service was exceptional, our server Matt/Max? was so knowledgeable. He made recommendations that were catered to each table. He was extremely personable and friendly as well. If you're looking for a unique plate guaranteed to make any special occasion top tier - then we highly recommend.

Food was delicious and fresh from the sea/ garden/ land. Service was decent and the ambience was nice. For true farm to table experience, this is great. Caveat: Only if you are willing to splurge a little. See my pics for the yumminess to shine through.

Community Table is becoming our "Go To" spot. It's so much fun to eat dinner at the bar, chat with the personable bartenders and have a fabulous meal while at the lake. The Sourdough Durum Rolls as well as the Sweet Pea Hummus as a must have. The Shrimp and Scallop ceviche is also worth an order and if you're trying to eat lightly, have this. It's full of flavor and the perfect portion. I tried the trout with low expectations and I hope to have it again: it was that good! The ambiance is simple, crisp and CT chic in its own way. You'll see women in flowing summer dresses and men in jeans. It's just perfectly accepting to your vibe of the evening.

Community table is a small, quiet restaurant tucked away in the Litchfield Hills. Their thoughtfully crafted meals and cocktails are perfect for a date night, or an intimate dinner with friends. We loved every dish and drink we tried! With a menu that's always changing, you can look forward to trying something different each visit. This spot is perfect for dinner after a hike or a trip to a vineyard or two. Looking forward to heading back soon to try some of their summer items!

One of the best restaurants in all of Western Connecticut, and probably the best in Litchfield County. Farm-to-table, (to-mouth!) it offers a well thought out menu of starters, entrees and desserts. Limited selection menu means everything is fresh; harvested locally and prepared perfectly. Arrive for dinner 15-20 minutes early, have a drink at the bar, then prepare for a delightful dinner, made perfect with good friends.

We came here because it was highly recommended and the ambience was great. In our first visit, our food took forever to arrive and service was very slow. I ordered the Reuben and when I went to pick it up, there was a large hole in the other side of the bread and the whole thing just fell apart. . The pastrami was very dry and just not very good. Aside from that my wife's meal was very good and we had a beverage and enjoyed the ambiance. This time we went and felt that we had lucked out because there was no one in the place. Our first mistake was, we sat at a high top in the bar, but it was too close to the door, so it was very cold. Every time the door opened the cold air with flow in. I put that on us for choosing a poor seat. The waitress promptly came over and took our drink order and said she would be right back to take our food order as we were very hungry. We waited and waited and it took a while for her to arrive. It looked like she forgot about us and quickly stopped by the table after walking past And asked if we were ready and took our order without writing it down. About 10 minutes later someone else came over and said I'm trying to confirm your order because it was not written down and make sure that we had ordered was ordered properly. The place had hardly anyone in it and not all the tables were taken so we expected our food to be received rather quickly however, after about a half an hour, we started seeing the tables that came in after us were receiving their orders and we still had not arrived. We both had ordered burgers which didn't seem that complicated. After about 15 more minutes, and since we'd been there, almost an hour we still had not received our food. My wife finally went up to the bar and mentioned something to someone there and she said she would go check on the kitchen. She went into the kitchen and immediately came out with our food. Strange? So we basically waited almost an hour for our food and it appeared to have been ready in the back and just sitting there. When we first tasted our food, it was not warm at all. The fries were cold and soggy, and my both of our burgers were warm not hot. This convinced me our order was there and never picked up. At first we thought about sending it back but then after waiting almost an hour, we decided just to eat it and leave. I feel bad having to leave a bad review but it is what it is and that's what happened. I would understand if the restaurant was overly crowded but like I said there was many open tables so I'm not understanding what was the issue. They were running food out, but these runners seemed a bit confused. After two tries, I'm not sure we'll try it again because we like the other place in town up the street just as much. We traveled almost an hour just to go here. There are places that are closer also much better and actually in town.

I…read morewas skeptical at first as the White Horse positions itself as an "English pub," but in reviewing the menu - it's all over the place. Impressions waking in were terrific. Great feel, good energy, beautiful dining room and bar with a perfect fireplace. The walls are adorned with history and there is even a book to guide you around the space if you choose to learn about what makes this place unique. We ordered some appetizers to share: spinach and artichoke dip and the goat cheese and arugula pizza. The apps tasted good (although the blended/pureed consistency of the spinach dip was like none I've ever experienced before) but they were small for the price. As a public service announcement, the items we ordered are literally an individual serving. I cannot speak for other apps on the menu. Entrees were much better than the starters. I ordered the chicken tikka masala (Punjab/spicy style) and it was very good. Savory, perfectly balanced, delicious. Enough food, for sure. Not a belly-busting portion - but I appreciated how the spice was balanced with banana, cashews, and a mango chutney. Very good. One friend ordered the chicken pot pie (which our server showed excitement about) - it was beautifully composed with a flaky crust and a cute horse crouton - but the taste was a safe "meh." Under seasoned, under chickened, just ok. Our other friend ordered the mushroom and walnut pappardelle in a cream sauce. It was delicious. Different. Savory. Maybe the best entree on our table. Service was OK. Attentive. But almost over-bearing. We were having a fun time and sharing holiday gifts, etc. clearly not ready to order - so we had to ask our server for some more time 3x. I suppose it's waaaaay better than getting lost in the crowd. Just no social awareness. All in all, I'm glad we went. We had a great time. Location for us was terrific. Feel and atmosphere was really good. I'll definitely be back and am anxious to try more of a pub-forward menu (burger, wings, etc.) One pet peeve: for a place that's an "authentic" pub, their "Shepherd's Pie" is made with ground beef. Any authentic pub-goer knows shepherd's pie is always made with lamb. Cottage pie is beef. With the variety and breath of their menu, and the dishes we had, "authentic" is a relative term.
