    Zini's Espresso Martini

"Sunday Drive" We felt like taking a drive in the country Sunday afternoon so we headed up into Litchfield county. We stopped in the center of Litchfield and walked around in a couple of the shops and headed towards Bantam on our way back home. As we drove passed Zini's Restaurant, I remembered seeing pictures of their weekend specials on Facebook. So we turned around and went in. With no specific plans for the afternoon, this turned out to be an awesome dinner. Zini's is a dimly lit romantic restaurant. I loved the stone walls throughout the dining room and the black and white pictures inset into the walls. My wife said she wants to go back to enjoy the fireplace when they light it for the colder months. As I had mentioned, we had no specific plans for the day, but our evening turned into a celebration of owning our store for three years. We worked the night of the anniversary. We began with two very good espresso martinis followed by a delicious burrata salad. Creamy burrata mozzerella and garden fresh tomatoes over fresh lettuce and topped with fresh basil and a drizzle of balsamic. My wife had the spinach fettuccine alfredo with garden vegetables and topped with grilled chicken. The alfredo sauce was very light and tasty. I had a huge grilled veal chop served with a classic potato croquette and mixed vegetables. Perfectly cooked juicy veal chop seasoned with rosemary, salt and pepper. I haven't seen potato croquette served in a long time. Crispy outside. Creamy, cheesy and delicious inside. We ended our dinners with a tiramisu and strawberry cheesecake. Zini's is not shy with their portions and the piece of cheesecake was no exception. Excellent meal. The gentleman that waited on us said that most people that dine there are regulars. He was happy to welcome us as new customers and also happy that we'll be back.

So wonderful, I don't know where to start! The building is a beautiful display of masonry craftsmanship inside and out. The restaurant is not large (which I think is a bonus), it's quaint, cozy and the seating is well organized. They have a well stocked bar with a flat screen TV, tables, booths, and a fireplace. The staff is extremely courteous, friendly and attentive. You feel as though you're eating at a friend's restaurant. Our meals came out quickly, were presented beautifully and most importantly, tasted amazing! This truly is a treasure and I feel lucky to have found it. Next time I will definitely make reservations, it fills up quickly. I would recommend Zini's for a romantic dinner or a family dinner!

Good food. Lomo saltado was very good. Meat was very tender and flavorful. Whole chicken and rice with salad was the perfect meal.

Unfortunately, the evening became a three-hour waiting game. We were seated promptly, ordered drinks and were off to a nice start. Then everything stalled. Our starters took nearly an hour, and our main courses arrived almost two hours after we sat down. We were patient at first, but eventually the relaxed pace simply became frustrating... more bread, another glass of wine and still no food. When it finally arrived, the food was delicious. The duck dumplings, onion tart, crusted lamb loin and corn agnolotti were all beautifully prepared. Michelle also did a great job on the service side, but the kitchen was painfully slow. What disappointed us most was the lack of hospitality. There was no meaningful apology, acknowledgment or real effort to make things right... and we were charged for everything. More bread and a pint of ice cream didn't address the situation. We left impressed by the food but deeply dissatisfied with the overall experience. The prices reflect a fine-dining restaurant, but the service and hospitality did not come close. At this level, excellent food isn't enough. Fine-dining prices demand a fine-dining experience... and this simply wasn't one.

Total comfort food but elevated. We were there celebrating after a very tough stretch for my wife so we needed a good night out. Our salads actually had brown lettuce in it. When we told the server she did not even seem to care or know what to do and actually said so do you still want them. Then my wife's scallops were way overcooked (I did not even think that was possible) and I ordered my burger Med Rate and cane out Ned Well. Again ghe server did not even seem to bat an eye. It was really about attention to detail and the steps of service. None of them were there. We saw employees walking past empty tables with dirty dishes and not help clear, and saw no teamwork. Maybe I am being to critical because I have been in this business for 35 years, but mayybe someone a manager or other employee will see this and will do something. Because that night no one came over to say they were sorry

I took a quick look at the ratings and the food photos and that was enough for us to set the GPS for the Stone House. Entering, we were greeted immediately and made to feel very welcome. The dining room was lively but we had a nice table and soon had water and bread, which came with a delicious sauce of some kind that had vegetables and cheese in it. It was so good they should sell jars of it! We ordered some shrimp cocktail to start (those were some giant shrimp, although it was only three and four would have been a nice even number) and then I had the rib eye for my main. It doesn't come with anything so I ordered fries on the side. That steak was outstanding! The flavor, the texture...everything was amazing. It came out on a sizzling skillet and it tasted as good as it looked. It was also so big that I took half of it home for lunch and if possible, it tasted even better the next day. I was very pleased. The fries were also exceptional and even though the serving was big, I ate them all. I couldn't help myself! Since I took half of my steak home, I decided there was room for dessert and the chocolate mousse didn't disappoint. The food was so good and the service was so warm and friendly, I definitely want to go back to Stone House Grill. If you're nearby, stop in for a meal. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I took a quick glance online and ordered the crab cake appetizer and then asked if they had a green salad, she said she could give me a box to make one at the salad bar. Perfect, I just wanted something green and healthy after a day of traveling. I arrive. She gives me the box and I proceed to put in lettuce, cucumbers a bit of come slaw and dressing. I go to pay and give her my card. As I'm getting in my car I look at the receipt and it's $38!!! $14 for the crab cake and $18.95 for the green salad. Had it not been pouring down raining I would have gone back in and asked for a refund and left my green salad behind. I'm both surprised and disappointed the waitress/bartender who took the phone order wouldn't have said our green salads salads are $19. There wasn't even anything on the salad bar that would remotely warrant such a high price for salad. The crab cake which was very moderately priced at $14 was delicious. I'm not sure if their salad bar usually includes a lot of other things like soup, bread or more? If that's the case she could have easily said we're closing so I'm charging 1/2 off since you're just getting a plain salad. Needless to say it felt like being taken advantage of being charged so much for a plain salad. And have if be more than a great crab cake that was full of expensive crab meat was beyond odd.
