The White Horse is a country pub and restaurant with beautiful views of the river. I love that they made it look like an English pub. The menu also seems to be European inspired. From pot pie, Shepard's pie, bangers and mash, to French onion soup. The menu was lovely with a wide selection to choose from and the prices were pretty affordable. Inside, it looked historic which I love; there are apparently some historic artifacts as well. Parking can be tight but we were able to find a spot no problem. We decided to sit out on the patio; to my surprise there was a river back there. It was on the cooler May side but a sweater solved any coldness we had. I started off with a sangria and I really enjoyed it so I had two of those. Then a French onion soup which was delightful. My sons had Mac and cheese and that was ooey gooey good. There was a slight mishap, I ordered a chicken pot pie but a Shepard's pie came out; they rectified that quickly and gave me a sangria on the house. The pot pie was delicious; I love how flaky the crust was and it melted in my mouth. There were ample amount of chicken. The server we was polite and attentive. With the great views, drinks, service, and food, this place deserved 5 stars and I can't wait to go back.

We arrived right at opening (11:30) Saturday 3/21/2026) and asked to sit by the fireplace. Our server was Jill and she welcomed us and took our drink order. We had been in and it was so tasty we came back because Kelly had to work on our first visit so hoped she could experience the great food and service we enjoyed previously with Rebecca outside on their gorgeous deck. We placed our orders and they arrived timely. Unfortunately, while service from Jill was exceptional, our meal wasn't as good. The Rueben sandwich was a disappointment as the bread was very lightly toasted, you could feel a slight toast, but couldn't see it resulting in a very soggy meal to attempt to eat. Some of it, we fork/knifed. Great Rueben's are grilled and the menu description says grilled (see pics). I will say the corned beef was good as was the sour kraut. Our son had the black diamond burger which came dry, no Dijon mustard so he had to request it, which came cold in a bullet (small metal sauce holder). This resulted in it not having everything mesh as well as if it had been put on immediately while it was assembled. His fries were also Luke warm. Kelly really enjoyed her meal, she had the bay crab burger with veggies instead of fries as did I (Rueben) and they were great. Finally the hubby picked the Punjabi version of the chicken tiki masala which is just a spicy version. Again, the chef missed the mark and it came out bland. Johnny showed it to our great server Jill and she retrieved some red pepper flakes for him to add himself. It made it taste slightly better, but couldn't have been incredible if it had been incorporated with the curry while cooking so all flavors meshed. The restaurant is so pretty with multiple dining rooms for different dining experiences. While we thought the chef missed the mark on 3 out of 4 dishes, it wasn't awful and we definitely will be back. Both Rebecca and Jill are lovely, knowledgeable servers, the restaurant is always clean as are the restrooms. If it's a warm day, the deck is right on the river.

Pretty good place. People start lining up before it even opens. They offer a pretty nice diverse menu. It's definitely quaint and reflective of the area's history. The staff was very nice and quick.

This place is packed, they do quite a business. But the food is exceptional and the ambiance is very warm and rustic. On nice days you can sit on the patio by the stream. The menu is large and the food is exceptionally good. For something different I tried the meatloaf, which was excellent but very rich and filling (we should have skipped the nachos, albeit they had great flavor and the thin chips were very good). My GF got the chicken pot pie, the pastry crust was thin and really good.

Went at 4pm on a Saturday. Wasn't crowded at all. No issues with service. Diet Pepsi and beer was fresh. The lobster sliders were delicious. The chicken pot pie was a little heavy with all the mashed potatoes. The burger was good but I have had better burgers elsewhere. The fries were tasty! The overall atmosphere is very nice, especially if you sit somewhere with a view of the little river behind it.

Saw that this restaurant won multiple awards in the litchfield county magazine. I had to try it. Started with the nachos which were excellent! I had a burger with wagyu meat outstanding. Couple I was with had fish and chips and the lamb kebabs. Everyone loved all the dishes. For dessert we had the chocolate moose cake, which my girlfriend said was the best she's ever had and I had to crème brûlée, which was probably also the best I've ever had and I've had it all over the place. This place is a rockstar.! J in would drive back from Long Island just for the burger and crème brûlée. Run don't walk here.

    Lucky Duck. It was delicious!

The outside patio was wonderful, with the running stream and perfect weather. Our server, Scott was pleasant and gave us some good ideas on what to order. The menu had so many good things we had a hard time deciding what we wanted. Between Scott, the food and the ambiance we can't wait to go back.

While at a local brewery, someone suggested we go check out the white horse. We already ate lunch and had dinner plans so we just went for drinks around 3. The place was so busy! We were able to get the last seats at the bar. We had cocktails and beers and everything was really good. We looked at the menu and so many things sounded good. We saw some dessert come out and it looked amazing. This would be a great spot to go when it is nicer out because of the waterfall outside on the little patio. I really want to go back here when it is nicer out.

Back to the White Horse Country Pub in New Milford Ct.. We were in the area and had to return. I had the Chicken Pot Pie Scrumptious! Great presentation so I took a photo. I know what I'm ordering next time but I'm not telling .

Disappointed. This place is always on favorites lists and we were excited to try it, only to be very Disappointed. We were originally seated outside and no one came over to us at all for over 20 minutes. We went inside and were reseated. There seemed to be more confusion as to who was attending to our table. When we were finally asked for our order, we inquired about the sandwiches-- was the ham, turkey, etc. roasted in house? Nope. Nothing special here but what we got was decent. Prices are reasonable. It is very popular but we aren't likely to return.

I'm back! I love this place! It's quiet here ) it's only a Tuesday) but we're late (arrived at 9:15…read morePM). There is no shortage of decor here! I like the huge carafe of ice water and the spicy potato chips! For my first drink, I'm having a Negroni. A negroni is an Italian cocktail, made of equal parts gin, vermouth rosso (red, semi-sweet), and Campari, generally served with ice, and commonly garnished with an orange slice or orange peel. It is considered an apéritif. They also have an Obi Wan Negroni made with Cold Brew Infused Campari instead. For my first food item, I'm having the Cream of Mushroom soup with chicken. Cream of mushroom soup is a simple type of soup where a basic roux is thinned with creamor milk and then mushrooms or mushroom brothare added. This is delicious! It's nice and hot with a lot of shredded chicken. For my entree, I'm having the Brussels Sprout Salad made with shaved Brussels sprouts, spring mix, bacon, pomegranate drizzle, silvered almonds, shaved Parmesan and lemon vinaigrette dressing. Look at the height of this! This tastes great! I am also having a side of mushy peas. Mushy peas are a traditional British side dish of marrowfat peas that are cooked until soft and mashed into a mush. The dish is especially popular in Northern England and the Midlands, and often eaten with fish and chips or served as part of "pie and peas". Here's a quick overview of mushy peas: Ingredients** Traditionally made with dried marrowfat peas, but can be substituted with frozen peas or green split peas. I love this! It's nice and hot.,What a rare treat! This is hard to find anywhere! I'm also having a side of cold slaw. Coleslaw, or "slaw" in North America, is a side dish of shredded cabbage with a vinaigrette or mayo-based dressing. The word "coleslaw" comes from the Dutch term koolsla, meaning "cabbage salad". Recipes vary by region and can include additional ingredients like carrots, apples, raisins, or celery. Coleslaw originated in the Netherlands in the 18th century, but references to similar cabbage salads appear in ancient Greek and Roman medical texts. This is the best! Nice, thick dressing! For my last drink, I'm having a Godfather. The Godfather is a sweet and strong cocktail that blends Scotch whisky and amaretto liqueur. It's typically served in an old-fashioned glass over ice and can be garnished with an orange twist. The drink became popular in the 1970s disco scene and is named after the 1972 film starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Some say bartender Joe Scialom created the Godfather to capture the movie's spirit. This is done just right! Good job! What a great meal here!

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right downtown Manchester on Main Street is this gem where Lucky Taco once stood. It echoes the standard British pubs and taverns from across the pond with deep yellow lighting, woods, exposed brick walls and open floorplan kind of vibe. It was lively, energetic and welcoming! Service: Lara took excellent care of us and she was very helpful! I had no issues at all. Food/Drinks: On the table when we arrived was an Irn Bru which is a SUPER popular drink sold in Scotland, often beating Coca-Cola in sales. It tasted like orange licorice, but it was actually pretty decent. Our first appetizer was an order of Crisps which were like thick cut potato chips with some garlic parmesan seasonings which I actually enjoyed! There was plenty of flavor from each component involved. Next up was the 007 which was their spin on the martini James Bond orders! In it is Wheatley Vodka, Bombay Gin, and English Tea Infused Lillet Blanc. It tasted like a dirty martini and was pretty strong! Smooth as well. I enjoyed it. Next up was a dish called Toad In The Hole which is Yorkshire pudding stuffed with smoked sausage then topped with caramelized onions and gravy. I have never seen anything like this before, but it was so strange, but pretty decent! The Yorkshire pudding was a bit eggy and dense. The gravy was a must though, since the other components of the dish lacked the salt that I was seeking. Next up was the Cloth Of Gold Old which is an Old Fashion with a twist which contained Old Forester, fresh lemon and honey. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure why the mention of Old Fashion was on the menu unless this is supposed to differ from an "Old Fashioned". No matter, moving on. Next up were the Potato Pom Pom which are fired potato balls served with a house-made cheddar cheese sauce. It sounds like a simple dish. The cheese was thick, majorly cheddar-y. I really, really liked these! They tasted like a fancy tater tot. The potato inside was so soft and tender and the exterior was so crispy. My last drink of the night was the Bramble On Rose which is their take on a 1980's classic created in Soho, London. In it is Bombay Gin, fresh lemon, rose water and blackberry syrup. This was my favorite drink of the night. It was fresh, had some herbal flavors and the rose flavor made itself known. I really, really liked this drink and would certainly order it again. Lastly, the quintessential Fish & Chips! It's Atlantic cod in a brown ale batter, served with musky peas, chips, tartar sauce and a curry sauce. The curry sauce was surprisingly fantastic. I was blown away and absolutely needed more of it. The mushy peas resembled guacamole, but I had no idea how I was supposed to eat them. Lol. Were they a sauce? I don't know, but they tasted exactly how you'd think they'd taste. The fish was also fantastic. It was light, yet greasy and crispy. Value: The most expensive thing on the menu is $22.00. This place is not expensive at all so you certainly won't break the bank. Portions are decent size too. In conclusion, I absolutely enjoyed myself here and highly recommend you (reading this) to check it out! British food is... unpredictable if I must throw a word on it. Lol. Like, I almost couldn't predict what some of this stuff would taste like because I had never had anything like it before! Now, I'm a believer!

With some good and some not-so good, we concluded that we aren't likely to return -- in spite of the really yummy tartar sauce (more on that in a moment). Penny Lane is a bit of an English Pub-style restaurant on two levels. We ate upstairs since the lower level was filled (steps, no elevator that we saw). Service was slow to nonexistent. It took us ten minutes to get recognized by a server who asked if we wanted something to drink and took another five minutes to get it. After we ordered we waited 25 minutes to get our food. We got no drink refills. Maybe service is better in the first floor? Ah, the food. Fish and Chips is essentially pub food, so that's what we got. The crust was light and buttery, quite good. The fish was utterly without any sort of flavor, as bland as could be imagined in your worst imagining. The tartar sauce was super good, but it just couldn't disguise the fact that the fish was tasteless. We also tried the poached egg and corned beef hash, which was ok though the hash was kind ... well, and of a hash, unremarkable at best. Conclusion: There was little that was appealing in our experience. Oh yeah, another ten minutes to get our bill... a long afternoon.

The bar seating was full, but we got right in upstairs at a cozy larger dining room. Service was excellent, professional, and did a great job. The menu was attractive. Lots of different drinks, classic pub food, your typical burgers, and fish and chips kinda stuff. But also a lot of other goodies too. I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with fries. It tasted good, the brioche roll was very fresh. I could have been seasoned more. I wasn't wow'd by it, but it was good. Fries were average, but tasted ok. I think the pricing was reasonable. I would definitely give Penny Lane Pub another try. I'm guessing though in the summer this place is tough to get into, just the vibe I got.
