This is a very low key but upscale restaurant. Understated style with full bar and top notch cuisine. Professional waitstaff provides quiet, competent service. We had the portobello egg sandwich and the Scottish salmon with an excellent French Sauvignon blanc. Both were delicious and not run of the mill fare. Ok. Just ok. Firstly - someone give this place a deep cleaning. Our table was "clean" but sticky. Thank goodness we sat at the booth by the open outdoors. The food was ok yet quite overpriced and everyone is just a bit pretentious. Like relax. This area has few choices yet the selection keeps growing with time so this place will certainly need to up its game. I rarely leave reviews, but I feel the need to warn fellow travelers about West Street Grill. My wife and I spent a night in Litchfield and chose this spot based on local and online recommendations--big mistake. From start to finish, the experience was a mess. The owner runs the front of house and seemed more focused on chatting with regulars and sniffing every pour of wine than actually managing service. The staff looked overwhelmed, and unfamiliar guests like us were clearly deprioritized. Tables seated after us received multiple courses before we even got our appetizer. We ordered the salmon board and two rigatoni pastas with wine, and everything was just... fine--nowhere near the quality or flavor you'd expect for the price. The atmosphere was tense, with the owner drinking and arguing with staff, and the place itself felt unkempt--sticky tables, flies buzzing around, and an overall lack of attention to detail. The kicker? As we were leaving, the owner suddenly became attentive, asking (borderline demanding) for a review after ignoring us all evening. It was awkward and disingenuous. There's clearly a management issue here. I'd skip this place if you're looking for a pleasant dining experience. Save your time and money--and grab dessert at Arethusa Farm instead; it's fantastic. read more

First let me start with the food was fabulous!! We had the burrata special to start then various salads and the soup social. So kudos to the chef!! What made me leave the 2 star rating was due to the 2 waiters (male) who were surely and less than helpful. When asked what the soup of the day was we got a one liner ... squash, with no descriptor whether it was creamed based or other. Our entrees were delivered before the appetizer plates were cleared and had our waiter come back I would have loved a second glass of wine with my entree, their loss of revenue. Likewise refilling out water glasses was also a battle. Will not go back. read more

We called to make a reservation for a Sunday dinner and were informed they didn't take reservations passed 6:45pm on Sunday's as they close early. They only require your first name for a reservation. The service was nothing exceptional from the reservation call to the actual dine in experience. The food was also just alright. I ordered the portobello entree which wasn't too bad. I also tried a bite of my husbands pasta dish which was just ok. The good thing is that they had a handful of vegan options which was very cool. Their guacamole was good. We were seated in a partial booth type of table which looked like it could use a little cleaning. The seat was black so it was a little more obvious to see between the edge sidings. read more

There is no better place to have a fine lunch in middle Connecticut than the West Street Grill in Litchfield. The restaurant is cozy and well planned both for the food and the ambiance. The tables are well spaced so you will never feel crowded or sharing a conversation with strangers at the next table because the decibel level is so loud so people have to shout over music to be heard. But come for the food not the furniture. There are multiple choices of traditional favorites (burgers, chicken, salads) or unexpected culinary highlights you might expect in higher priced restaurants. The peasant bread is a good way to start. Our waiter was competent and service was very attentive. Our food was delivered promptly and cooked to order. In all, we will definitely be back. read more

I have never felt the need to write a negative review before, but after my recent experience at this restaurant, I felt it was necessary to share my disappointment. At the end of July, we chose West Street Grill to celebrate my birthday with my husband and two dear friends, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a regrettable decision. We arrived eight minutes before our reservation and waited at the host area to be greeted and shown to our table. Despite most of the tables being empty, we waited for ten minutes before being acknowledged. When we were finally greeted by the owner, he asked for our reservation name and then simply pointed to a table, saying, "You can go sit over there." Our waiter did not introduce himself when he approached our table and was not welcoming at all. We ordered a cocktail to start, the Grey Goose Cosmo was the one highlight of my dinner - it was perfect. Sadly, the rest of the experience went downhill from there. For starters, we each ordered the Local Heirloom Tomato Salad from Tara Farm, priced at $19, and added the Burrata for an additional $7. For $26, we received what looked like a small white ball and red diced mush. After giving our dinner order, our waiter disappeared and did not return to take further drink orders. Our husbands had the short ribs, which were overcooked and dried out. My salmon was overcooked and swimming in something that looked like tomato soup. My friend asked our waiter for a recommendation between the two salmon dishes, and he suggested the one with pasta, which also turned out to be a disappointment. When our waiter finally returned with a glass of wine for my husband, he had already finished what he could of his dinner. Throughout the evening, we felt ignored as we watched a young server smile, set tables, and bring out orders, while the owner chatted, laughed, and sat down with obvious locals. At one point, after conversing with a table next to ours, the owner arrogantly said what did you think of the tomatoes and continued on how great their salad was and their attention to detail, without giving us a chance to respond. I do not mind spending money on an enjoyable dining experience, especially on my birthday, but this experience was anything but enjoyable. We had two starters, four entrees, a cosmo, two old fashions, and two glass of wine. The drinks were the only thing we enjoyed besides each other's company. I can't believe we paid $400 for a terrible birthday dining experience, and will NEVER go back. read more

We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we had an AWFUL experience w one of the waiters in the parking lot that was horrible! For some reason, he parked in the spot reserved for EVs even though he doesn't have an EV. We were fortunate to find him and asked him to move his vehicle. Not only did he not apologize for the inconvenience, he said "he didn't care" and was extremely rude. Wow. I was shocked. Went this weekend, the waiter was rude. My burger was supposed to be cooked well done, it came bloody. I had to get up and approach him and he then sent the host to deal with it. The host was great, but both times we've gone the male waiters aren't friendly, they seem uninterested in their jobs. Find another job as you are in the customer service industry. Don't get it twisted and think just because James is Irish and owns West Street Grill in swanky Litchfield, CT that you'll get boring bar food. And it isn't your raucous night spot either. The yellow wall tones, the seating and that bar area (even if it's stool-less) gives West S. a cozy and inviting feel- in a graceful dining space. West Street G. happened by chance and without a reservation, we were welcomed just fine after a busy morning buying vintage items. Have no doubt, our dishes were all very nice. From my delicate Cauliflower Tempura (needed salt to make them pop), to hubs Caesar to my Fish & Chips to hubs' bun-less burger- we enjoyed it all. However, we learned more about the owner, his partner and his drinking habits before the salad came. A word to the wise, as an owner you probably should spend more time with the chef instead of enjoying your bar. The shortrib was crunchy, dried out. Our meal consisted of a salad we split, shortrib,fish, ice tea and 1 cosmo.$150.00 I don't mind spending the money if it's good. Another word to the wise, as an owner you should keep your politics to yourself. They had a table ready for us but we opted for a 10 minute wait for a larger table (the wait was less than 10 minutes.) Despite the crowd, the service was excellent and the food very high quality, delicious. The crowd clearly had many regulars in it (no wonder because of the service and food quality) and the wait staff was friendly and accommodating. Me and my wife made a reservation here and the owner/host was super personable, friendly and funny. We were greeted and remembered from our reservation and treated very nicely. We were then sat and served the best ravioli's that we'd ever had. Not sure why the good reviews for this place. Over priced and staff not friendly. Our waitress was friendly until we got our food and then never came to check on us. The person who brought our appetizer just kind of dropped it on our table with a disgusted look on his face. Tried to make small talk with the owner and he acted like he couldn't bother. We got the Peasant Bread for the appetizer. It was overcooked on one side. Our entrees were the Black Angus Hamburger and the Freshly Made Cheese Ravioli. The hamburger was decent enough but the ravioli was a HUGE disappointment. Not sure what they mean by "freshly made" but it was like the frozen ravioli you can make at home. Seven pieces of ravioli with generic tomato sauce for $29 and you don't even get bread with it. A coke was $6! This place is not worth your time or money. read more

I was there with six other women for lunch last week. The food was good but not a great selection of lunch options. Our waiter was the worst I've had in 25 years!! He was SO rude & not the least bit accommodating. He kept snapping back answers & wasn't the least bit helpful!! After all that he made a mistake in our bill & in correcting it he double charged us!! It's taken a week to sort that out!! After several calls to them they suggested it would be easier if we corrected it on our end!! Easier for whom? This is my new favorite restaurant. I went for Litchfield's 2023 restaurant week, and can't understand how I passed it before so frequently and never knew how amazing the food was inside. The interior is bright, clean, and cozy. Lots of animals photos adorn the walls, and there is definitely a horse focus. The seating is a mix of booths and tables with chairs. I was invited to try two types of complimentary bread - regular and "burnt" (don't be put off, it was just crispy!). The latter was definitely superior, with more taste and texture. Also, apparently better for you! Now the peasant bread - eat it when it gets to the table, it's best eaten hot! There's an amazing layer almost Alfredo-like between the cheese and the bread. My appetizer was grilled asparagus, which had the perfect amount of bite. The pan roasted trout had a crispy skin, even with the delicious sauce on top of it. There were surprise mashed potatoes, which were so creamy, I saved them as the last perfect bite. Dessert was a rich chocolate mousse cake, and pure chocolate excellence. Between the great food (which aren't even my favorite foods, they're just GREAT foods) and great service, I can't wait to go back! read more

This place is fantastic!! We walked in for dinner last night and was immediately greeted by the bartender Ryan who made very tasty cocktails. The owner James sat us and noticed I was cold. (forgot to bring a sweater with me) Few mins later one of the wait staff showed up with a wrap she had in her car for me to use during dinner. So thoughtful! . James also recommend a wonderful bottle of wine. The food and the service were nothing short of amazing. Our waitress was great. The food was reasonable. However one in our party had a minor issue with her meal which she expressed with curtesy. The proprietor was beyond rude in his response. He took the query as a personal affront and stormed around in an embarrassing and astounding display. Also, if you do choose to eat there do not share any interest in Ireland. He will hold you hostage for at least 15-20 minutes. read more
