The staff was so friendly and helpful, and they had a good variety of bagels. I got a BEC on a Spinach Bagel and it was delicious and filling! They do not play with the bacon, there's a ton. The bagels are a little smaller in general (that's my opinion, i'm originally from NJ) but they packed a lot of flavor. I got a French Toast bagel with their house made strawberry cream cheese and it was incredible. I was really impressed. In search of a local bagel that compares to the authentic NY/NJ bagels that everyone loves, I often came up short. Recently I went to Ground Up coffee in Cheshire and finally had a bagel that lived up to that standard -- They told me that they sourced their bagels locally from Shef's Bagels! I decided to go directly to Shef's on Friday morning around 8:30am. They had already sold out of cinnamon raisin! That's how good this place is. I opted for a French toast bagel which had that subtle hint of maple syrup sweetness (not too overpowering). I guess you really have to get there at 6am when they open to get your pick of all of the bagel flavors. Their cream cheese is also delicious! One final tip: CASH ONLY! (There is an ATM inside) This place is no-frills but has such a nice hometown feeling when you walk in the door. I love supporting this local business! read more

Shef's is hands down one of the best if not the best bagel places in the state. People come far and wide to satisfy their carb cravings here. This is a no thrills establishment and it is CASH ONLY. There are a scant amount of tables and even less chairs, but hey you come for the goods not the atmosphere. Staff are always friendly and efficient. The pricing for bagels is pretty standard and trust me once you sink your teeth into one of these you're going to thank yourself for the personal investment you made in self care. The bagels at Shef's are ALWAYS amazing. They are super consistent and I've never had a bad tasting experience. They are doughy on the inside without being undercooked and have a great tasty outside that is just a tad chewy in texture. There are other bagel places with more flavors, but sometimes quality is better than quantity and there are still at least 8 kinds to choose from. My personal favorite is the everything bagel. It's the best everything I've ever had...the mix and distribution of seasoning is . You can't go wrong with either butter or cream cheese. Speaking of cream cheese Shef's makes their own in at least 5 different flavors. The texture is a beautiful balance of creamy and whipped without being pasty. I'm salivating just imaging a Shef's bagel now . I've brought these to coworkers and friends without outwardly expressing my complete adoration and they objectively agree these are some of the best bagels they have ever had. God damnit, their bagels sell like hot cakes. We got there at 1030am and they literally had only one type of bagel left!!!! We picked the last raisin bagel and had it with blueberry cream cheese. I recently visited Shef's after a friend recommended it. Shef's is obviously very popular. Business was steady and they had many employees because they apparently expected to be busy. Shef's was not fancy. Service was friendly and efficient. My friend recommended I get a French Toast Bagel with Strawberry Cream Cheese, which is not a usual order for me. I was afraid it might be too sweet, but the French Toast bagel wasn't too sweet and the sweetness from the strawberry cream cheese took it to the right level. The bagel was above average and good. I also ordered an Everything Bagel with veggie cream cheese. Both were good. I would have preferred the veggie cream cheese to have more of a point of view, but it was fairly common. I also prefer more everything seasoning on my bagel, but it was decent. Shef's Bagels were closer to New York style than some other I've recently had. I woke up very early this morning and took a ride just to relax. I ended up at chefs bagels,. For less than six dollars purchased a coffee and two bagels. Brought them home and loved the bagel. I haven't been here in years but only because I moved far away. I used to go here several times per week to get a toasted everything bagel with butter. And let me tell you, they had the very best bagels I have ever eaten in CT! Always reliably, fresh and tasty. After I moved I would crave them a lot. I finally was able to go back and stopping with my mom about 5-6 years ago and to my surprise (and disappointment) it wasn't the same as either of us remembered. It wasn't even that gust all so we were wondering if there had been a change in ownership and recipes. We both decided that the bagels we just bought from Shef's would be likely be our last. Unless (of course) they go back to the original recipe and ingredients they have been using forever at Shef's Bagels. Like the saying says: if it ain't broke(and it wasn't), don't fix it! One of the best bagel shops without having to drive to NY. Made fresh daily they are thick with nice crust on outside and warm and soft in the middle. My son's favorite is bacon egg and cheese on a plain bagel. It's a hard breakfast sandwich. The bacon is not over-cooked and broken into smaller pieces to get some in every bite. My daughter loves the blueberry with their whipped cream cheese and the everything bagel....its got just enough spice and salt but not too overpowering. I'm on the hunt for the best bagel in Connecticut. I heard this place had really great bagels that were close to the anew Haven area. When I went, the shop wasn't too busy even though it was a Sunday. Luckily, they didn't run out of anything by the time I got there. The service wasn't the best. The signs in the shop didn't make it clear on what cream cheese flavors were available. I got a plain bagel with cinnamon raisin cream cheese. When I got my bagel and I could've easily walked out with paying. I had to mention to the cashier that I didn't pay for my meal yet. It didn't seem like the system they had in place was efficient. Even though, on the door there's a sign mention wearing a mask, none of the employees had a mask on. For the price, the bagel I got was decent, but it wasn't the best ever. Pretty good bagel place! We got here a bit later, so most of the specialty flavors were sold out. I had been craving a lox sandwich and almost didn't get it because lox was listed only in the lunch menu section. It wasn't clear that it was also available for breakfast. It was only when I made an offhand comment about my disappointment in not being able to try the lox did the girl taking my order assure me it was also available for breakfast. The bagels were nice and thick with a pretty good crunch on the outside (I've had ones with a crispier outside, but more that were worse for sure!). My husband consistently likes his garlic/everything/onion with butter, and the hashbrown was yummy. My lox was very good, but I did wish it had more capers. My other disappointment was that the girl double checked with me twice regarding my lox order not having onion, yet it still had onion. BUT, having said that, I didn't realize it had onion until I had eaten half the bagel! Reason being there was not a lot and they used white onion instead of red like a typical lox would have. White onion is a lot less strong, even raw, so the taste didn't bother me. Definitely a consideration for those who like a more traditional lox sandwich though. Just tried my first bagel from Shef's. You always try the first one plain with nothing on it to judge the mouth feel, the outer crust and the breadiness of the bagel.
