Luke's is truly an Avon local classic and staple. Like others have said, it's been around forever with every middle schooler venturing over to buy a donut before going to the library, and has stayed old school. It's not a flashy or trendy place bc it's a hardworking family owned business that you know is reliable. Main points about Luke's: simple, classic, and CHEAP! But pretty good quality. Homemade right on the spot sandwiches for $6, a dozen of made that day sweet with a lil crunch donuts for $12, and delicious and filling sandwiches for $6-8. The family that runs the place are all so incredibly friendly, and will always have a smile on their face.

I feel like Luke's is definitely an institution - people kept coming in, knowing exactly what they wanted or just wanted donuts. They only have chocolate donut holes? Great, box them up, it's all good for the customer in question! A couple craving milkshakes knew they were going to get exactly what they wanted, and what flavor to order a friend. There's even a cute little counter to sit at, you can't get more classic as an institution! This, however, was my first time to Luke's. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, which actually worked out really well because they were not heavily seasoned and my poor stomach was craving such food. However, on a normal day the fries would have been undercooked to me. The donuts were fun - there must be a mob in the morning, because the pickings were sparse. There was but one cereal donut left! They were a little dry, possibly because the room they were stored in had no AC and just a box fan. But they weren't greasy or overly sweet, and the men in charge (possibly father and son) were friendly and accommodating. Great service!

Will it go 'round in circles? Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky? (Billy Preston) I just Googled "Connecticut Donut Trail" and up popped a March 18,  2021 web posting that had Luke's Donuts clocking in at #7 That's pretty high praise don't you think? Luke's goes WAY BACK to 1947, and it's very awesome to know that this local donut shop has withstood the crush of national donut chains, maintained their local identity, and still crank out some really delicious and super reasonably priced donuts. We swung by today and walked out with a Honeybun and an Old Fashioned Donut for the rock bottom price of a buck apiece. My Old Fashioned was great - soft and cake-like on the inside with just a tad of crunch on the outside. Truly one of life's simple pleasures. They also have pizza, sandwiches and breakfast fare if you're in the mood for more than a donut. Service was friendly and courteous, and our whole consumer experience was a pleasure.

It's fine. It's superrrrr old school and I don't think they've changed a thing since the 60s or whenever it was first opened. The only thing that's maybe changed is the prices, but even then it couldn't possibly be by much, because this place seems to live in a vacuum outside of the cost of living around it. A breakfast sandwich for $3.75? Unheard of. You can get a full scale continental breakfast for under $10. Donuts only Tun you $1.25 a piece. They do take card with no minimum, and the guy working the counter is so sweet albeit very quiet. The usual patrons are a mix of extremely elderly senior citizens sitting at the counter and middle schoolers popping in after school for a cheap treat. The food? Acceptable. It's not the best breakfast sandwich in town by any means, but it's hot and it's cheap. The donuts are sugar bombs and a little greasy, but definitely hit the spot when you need something sweet. Overall, it's charming, but when I think of good food in town Luke's isn't on my list.

Best ever!!!!

We are moving out of town, and this is one of the places I will miss the most. The neighborhood feel, the super friendly staff, just feel like family when you here a sense of community. Donuts are delicious of course.

I've passed by Luke's for years and have always thought, "I should stop here" but never have. Enough was enough and I had to do it. And I'm so glad I did! This is a very solid donut shop and certainly has a a place in my donut shop rankings. Their old-fashioned donuts are completely my style: slightly dense, a little crunch, no icky oil taste, holds up well after a day or so. Plus, they're $1 so you cannot go wrong. In general, I am not a fan of yeast donuts but will have one from time to time. The yeast donuts here weren't great overall and the jelly inside the jelly-filled wasn't my style. However, because the other styles were SO good, I could only take off one star. Will I be back here often? Absolutely!

Large granular sugar gives them a very gritty texture

So unlike other reviewers I was not impressed. I came here after a friend highly recommended them for their donut holes. I read a recent review that said the establishment changed hands so perhaps the recipe changed; or maybe I'm just not a fan of overly sugary donuts With a gritty texture that aren't fully cooked and slightly on the oilier side inside. 6 donut holes run you $1.50. Upon walking in there were 6 people inside and no one to be found at the register. Behind me 5 more walked in so it's obvious people like the place, but it just wasn't for me. The place is small and hard to move about with that many people. The staff (once they appeared) were not overly friendly or welcoming and the person that waited on me I am not entirely sure was even 16. Unfortunately this was my first and last visit.

To be honest, I waited in the car with our puppy while my husband went in. He immediately became texting me.. "Wonderful place," "Two nice brothers running it," and "In business for 20 years." Came back telling me nice the family atmosphere is, with two cheerful and smiling brothers running the cash register. We're not too keen on donuts so I can only remark on the delicious egg & sausage everything bagels we had. Quality fresh ingredients.

Place is great I have been to both the Avon and the West Hartford locations…read more Loved the chocolate chip cookies, sour dough bread and the baguettes. Think people are hating this place because they are comparing the food to Stop & Shop. The taste is pretty different. Sour Dough from NY, Vermont that was "baked today" but feels half frozen is $7 at Whole Foods ... so complaining about $10 for a local one is kind of wild. Yesterday I had a baguette from the West Hartford location. Ate it on the way home. It was so good. Finally tried a sandwich. I had their Turkey Sandwich today. Shit was life changing. Haven't had an experience like that since having a steak at J Gilberts for the first time. It is like wow this is what real food taste like and what our parents & grand parents would eat before everything was mass produced. Everything was local and delicious. Price wise it was $2 more than a regular sized Jersey Mikes Turkey Bacon sandwich. The coffee and the other baked goods I thought were just ok but their bread, cookies and sandwiches are incredible.

This place is obscure and a little bit hard to find unless you have navigation!…read more But once you find the front door and walk through, you are greeted warmly with many smiles from the workers, and the smell of fresh baked goods I came specifically for the sourdough bread and there it was sitting in the showcase ready to rock! I purchased a sliced loaf As I was looking through the showcase, I saw these blueberry scones that looked beautiful, and the love was showing through. They were talking to me. I said to the friendly server "I'll take three!" This place is a must try and a hidden gem for all to visit at least once! Here, take my money! I will be back!

Entrees always meet expectations, and while prices are a tad high, portions are generous, so it's all good. We gladly exiled ourselves to the empty patio, with gusts of wind, flying leaves, & steady stream of stop 'n go traffic along Route 4. It couldn't have been better! Indoors tightly packed booths & tables, family atmosphere, and servers buzzing about. Service: Given our solitary position, we found the service to be forgetful with regard to the hearty soles outside. Coffee request came twice and finally order taken. However, my wife received the wrong plate, which was quickly corrected. I just hope the other indoor customer did not receive the plate all ready sampled! Food: I had the standard Unionville Special breakfast plate per following options; 2 eggs over easy, 2 slices of pumpkin French toast, 2 slices of bacon. A side order of bacon to share, including Velcro Pup. My wife egg/cheese Unionville Special Quesadilla, With well done home fries and bacon. All in all the FOOD was very good and not a crumb left. The SERVICE a bit scattered and slow, but we were allowed the Patio and all is forgiven. The AMBIANCE indoors a bit tighter than this diner would like and the VALUE, well like everywhere else these dazes, not easy on the pocket.
