The New Hartford breakfast sandwich
Gary E.

I have been here for lunch and breakfast now, it's a small place. The food is very good, very good quality and creative items. I will certainly be a regular and see how time goes. As of now really love the food.

I ordered a burrito and some hash browns to go and everything was really good! Tasty and filling! Looks like a cool place to eat-in too.

"Heart made of glass, my mind of stone Isn't it lovely, all…read morealone?" (Billie Eilish) I was thinking about what word best describes this morning's breakfast at the Village Market & Cafe. The best word I can come up with is "lovely". Everything was lovely -the dining room, decorations, the craft goods and pricing from local artisans, the pricing, choices, quality and quantity of the foods, and especially the service and hospitality. If you want an overall lovely vibe and experience, you really need to visit. Their menu board is divided into two sections, with breakfast on the left and lunch on the right. We were there in the morning, so with breakfast on our minds we checked out the left board and saw breakfast sandwiches, bagels, a kid's menu, and a potato patty side. My wife ordered a single egg sandwich on an English Muffin ($4) with bacon ($1) and a potato patty side ($1). Now those are very reasonable prices, so I really don't agree with some of the price bashing I've seen on this page. I ordered what turned out to be one of the very best breakfast sandwiches I've had in months. My Breakfast BLT was a feast of toasted rye bread, lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheese, and two fried eggs. It kept me full for half the day, and at $10.50 was worth every penny. Village Market's coffees are sourced from "Those Guys Coffee Company" out of New Hartford. Our coffee was excellent ($3 for a 12-ounce cup). Oh, and there is one more reason why our visit was lovely - our conversations and interactions with Evelyn. She and her daughter are owners, and she was super friendly, and just a real pleasure to meet and chat with. And to add one more reason to visit is this -they also sell ice cream! This was an easy FIVE STARS for all of the lovely features of this lovely spot.

These days it's hard to find a cafe that isn't overpriced and better than just average. But Toasted Oat hits the high points of quality of cook on the food, even if the ingredients may not all be top notch. They have breakfast sandwiches, bowls and scrambles, as well as regular sandwiches, salads and burritos. We enjoyed the regular breakfast sandwich with spinach and cheese (subbed the meat but wish the spinach had been cooked in - $7) and the breakfast scramble which included 2 eggs, 3 veggies, cheese, protein all mixed/cut up together, as well as hash brown (didn't exactly look homemade?) and toast ($11). Everything was served in to-go containers so the looks weren't the best but makes sense given the place and that most people probably don't dine in. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. Everything takes time to come out so you know it's done to order. They also have some coffee and tea. They had a few coffee cake items in a glass display but didn't look homemade either. It feels like a cafe should have more selection of pastries but again bother me. Service was friendly and patient. The actual location isn't that great visually either. There is one longer table and a few smaller ones, but it's not a big place and not decorated to impress (fine by me!) It is located in a small nondescript plaza with an Indian market. Small parking lot. Wish this small business well!

I had a wonderful first experience there. It was such a warm and welcoming environment, both in the gorgeous decor and the amazing staff. I felt at home immediately in a place brand new to me. That's hard to find. They had a perfect balance of letting me get situated and figure stuff out on my own while also guiding and assisting me as well. I had gone with 2 of their October specialty drinks in mind. I still couldn't decide between them, so I went with my brilliant third option I had also been pocketing... order both! So I ordered an Iced Punkin' Chai & a Hot Trick or Treat Latte (both with whole milk). Both were offered hot or iced. I browsed an area they have set up like a mini marketplace with goods from local artists, crafters and vendors. I loved that aspect. While I didn't get anything today, there was a lot that I really adored and was tempted by. Now I'll talk drinks. The Punkin' Chai was chai, milk, pumpkin pie sauce, vanilla whipped topping, & cinnamon. The spices were front and center, which I loved. Clearly high quality and fresh. Extreme depth of flavors. The pumpkin was subtle, but provided a great counterbalance of slightly sweet earthiness. The squash quality really came through. This wasn't a "dessert-y pumpkin pie" drink, and I think I loved it more because of that! The Trick or Treat Latte was espresso, milk, chocolate, caramel, peanut butter syrup, and a chocolate drizzle. Again, the flavors were deep and developed, and it didn't tread into dessert territory. Each flavor came through, and served a purpose. The latte artistry on top was also top tier. This was an extremely elevated and intentionally, carefully crafted drink. Both were, and I was blown away. I can't stress enough how rare THIS level of attention to detail is, and it truly makes a world of difference. I thought prices were relatively average, which I thought was actually impressive given the fact that they are a roaster themselves, is high quality ingredients, and put so much care and attention into their craft (which is often overlooked and definitely worth something in itself). I would very much like to hang out and enjoy a drink there in the future. If it were a bit closer, I'd probably be a regular. Every aspect of my visit was excellent, and I look forward to next time. Definitely be sure to check out The B Hive.

Since it was a busy morning the online order feature is super handy to save time but if you have time, the atmosphere in the cafe is inviting and love how they serve drinks and food on real dinnerware (coffee tastes better in a ceramic mug than cardboard cup wouldn't you say?). Everything was delicious and can see myself stopping for a flavored latte again some time. Bonus! They sell cute gifts and other (local?) items from stationary to kitchen accessories and handmade jewelry. Wish I had more time to look through the items but my wallet thanks me haha.
