My go to for breakfast is The Harvest Cafe and bakery in Simsbury. My picture this time is of something I created called the build your own Benedict. One slice of house sourdough bread toasted and cut in half. On each half, goes a bit of grilled ham, then a poached egg with hollandaise and asparagus topped with bacon crumbles and scallions. Usually, I have a few slices of bacon on the side. Fantastic! I have iced coffee with my breakfast, as would any self-respecting New Englander. Growing up nearby, this was always my favorite sit-down breakfast spot in the area. Now that I don't live in town, I'll always stop by with my family when we are in town visiting. No reservations and plan to get here early on the weekends as the line can get long, but it's absolutely worth it! I almost always get the farmer's eggs benedict but the menu is full of delicious options. They also bake some of the most delicious breads and pastries I have ever had! You really can't go wrong. When I was in last they had a latke special and they subbed the hash browns in the farmer's egg benedict for the latke for me, which was a wonderful combo! My wife got the biscuits and gravy which were rich, savory, and super yummy on a delicious biscuit. The staff is super friendly and the walls are covered with cute local art creating a very cozy and friendly vibe. My brother and I went to Harvest in Simsbury for lunch this afternoon. I've had them in my Yelp search results for a while, today was my first time dining here. I wish I got the name of our waiter, but he was very funny and entertaining. At first I was a bit confused about the entrance, because, I saw people sitting right by the door. As I was looking for the entrance, our waiter popped out and said "You're not going to find any food at the Carpet Cleaners" as he held the door open, referencing to the business next door. It was very busy inside, they have some art work, which is done by local artists. The whole vibe is very homey. I got the Broccoli & Cheddar soup. As I placed my order our waiter called me "M'lady" multiple times. I also got the Broccoli Quiche. My soup arrived in a mug with two slices of their homemade bread. This soup was very delicious, hot and satisfying. It was filled with substantial pieces of broccoli. I can see it being a go to in the winter! My quiche was also very fresh, made with ricotta and broccoli, it was warm and very cheesy! My brother got the Reuben. He also enjoyed it. First time eating at Harvest Cafe & Bakery...we had been warned that this place gets crowded (understandably, it's that great) and to expect a wait. Our wait, on a Sunday morning, was about 15 minutes. No problem, we perused the menu and oogled at all of the delicious looking pastries, cookies, and breads located in the bakery section as you walk in. Once we were seated, we were quickly approached by our very nice waitress and brought coffee, hot tea, and water. I ordered the Evelyn (I think it was called), and had 2 eggs sunny side up, a bagel with butter & cream cheese, and homemade corned beef hash. The corned beef hash was very tasty, tender, but not mushy, with a little bit of crispness on the sides. It was phenomenal! My husband had 2 scrambled eggs, home fries, and whole wheat bread. I tried a bite of his bread, and it was delicious. Service was wonderful! We both agreed that this is the very best restaurant for breakfast that we have ever eaten at! We were attended to right away by Amanda (who was terrific!) and we ordered a variety of breakfast items (omelette, French toast et al). All were very good and my only criticism would be that it took too long to get served. I couldn't tell if the food was ready awaiting a server or that there was a delay in the preparation. We have been to harvest Café before, and my wife and I were in the area so we decided to drop by on Friday morning. We were one of a few tables sat, but by the time we left, every table is filled. we sat and we greeted right away with ice water and coffee... Which was served almost continuously. I've always heard such great things about Harvest Cafe, so my brunch buddy and I decided it was time to visit. I was worried about a long wait for a table, but we were seated right away inside--no trouble there. The cafe is loud. As someone who is neurodivergent, I struggled with how loud it was. I eventually put in my ear plugs to dampen it so I could enjoy the conversation with my friend, and that helped--just fair warning to others who struggle like that. Service was decent. We were offered coffee multiple times and never waited long for anything. The food was fabulous. I had the peach melba French toast special, made from pound cake. It was divine. My friend had the croissant French toast. And we both ordered sides--she the bacon, and I got the home fries. It was all prepared well and tasted great. Absolutely delicious breakfast: got 2 eggs over easy, turkey sausage, and breakfast potato. Opted for the muffin, pumpkin apple, and our waitress suggested it grilled. It had only been a few minutes, but the server walked by my table several times without a glance in my direction. As the server waived the couple over who had been waiting behind me, I thought "she'll be coming over here next". Nope. She sat them, brought them waters and proceeded to have a conversation. It was only 5 minutes, but in those 5 minutes I felt invisible, and after seeing what unfolded, I felt deliberately ignored. I walked out, I doubt anyone noticed. Service was a bit slow but that's because the place was packed, expect to wait on weekends. I don't recommend the coffee or the lattes, they were watery at best but now let's get to the good stuff... food is fantastic!!! Came here for breakfast. It's in a strip mall type location along route 10 & 202. Was pleasantly surprised, walking in. So many delicious treats in their showcase as you walk in and give your name to be added to the list to be seated. The place was packed, so that's always a good sign. The coffee was good, they were very prompt with refills. I got the meat lovers omelet with home fries and substituted the toast for French toast. The omelette was delicious, and so packed with all the meats and cheese. The home fries tasted homemade, seasoned well and not over salted and good savory flavor. I got the French toast for a 2$ upgrade charge. It was quite amazing, made fresh from their honey white bread made in house. Light fluffy and sweet. Scott! What happened? The past three weeks the quality of the food and service has gone down to the the point that we will not be showing up for several week if not months. I will give you a breakdown if the issues. I order either two or three poached eggs, hollandaise and sausage every Sunday. My wife typically gets a scrabble, orange juice and corned beef. For the past three weeks I have gotten ice cold hollandaise, cold or luke warm porched eggs and cold sausages or all of them being room temperature. Last week was my wife's pumpkin pancakes were like very gluey and her sausages were cold. Your staff complains of being shorted staffed and it shows. So I am just letting you know that you will not be seeing us at 7:30 every Sunday for several weeks or months until we feel that it has been corrected. read more

Harvest Cafe is a friendly and inviting restaurant offering unique and inventive breakfast and dinner options. On this visit they provided exceptional and friendly service, which was impressive, since they were extremely busy on a Sunday morning. They prepared a flavorful corned beef Reuben on their own made lightly toasted rye bread. The carrot cake waffle special (pictured) was very good but the price at $14 was high when taking into account it was one waffle with a small amount of toppings. The Blueberry Lemon Pudding special (pictured) was glorious but again the portion size was small and it could have used 25% more to make it a meal. In previous visits I have had their Benedicts, which never leave you disappointed. If you take the perspective of quality over quantity then this place will match expectations. On many of their offerings (mainly specials) the prices are hefty due to the smaller portion sizes but the quality is fantastic. 1st Timers for breakfast this morning. We were seated right away -- that was a good sign for being around 10ish on a Sunday morning, but it was also raining pretty hard at the time too. I went with the The Bugsy French Toast off the Special's (which stated it was a carrot cake French Toast), my wife ordered the Banana Bread French Toast off the regular menu. LONG wait for the food -- noticed the table next to us, which had been seated some time after we had ordered, received their food before us. When our meals finally arrived, I was not sure why it had taken so long to prepare ? This was NOT French Toast, both breakfasts were basically CAKE. Yes, tasty & delicious cake, but it was still cake, not French Toast. Neither one was fried or dipped in egg & milk. Nonetheless, we were starving, and greedily ate what we were served. Also, for some reason, my wife's portion was twice as much as mine, she ended up bringing half of her Banana Bread home....excuse me, "Banana Bread French Toast". Bill was over $37 (before tip). We eat out for breakfast often, that's a tad on the high side, for sure. I wasn't very impressed with Harvest Cafe and Bakery, but my wife thought more of the place than I did, so I imagine we'll be back at some point in the future. Next time, I'll order an egg dish instead, although I'm fairly certain that all the bakery items are of high quality and excellent, I really felt like that's what we did have this morning, with some carrots and bananas on top, and a bit of whipped cream on the side. Sorry, you can't dress up cake and try to pass it off as French Toast with me. Service was very good, all the waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. I absolutely love this place! Me and my husband go once a month. The food is very good! Not to mention the AMAZING baked goods. I always get the farmers Benedict and my husband swears by the crepes. (Pictured bellow) The servers always greet you with a smile and they very attentive. Seriously very friendly people that work there. It's a bit small and cozy if you like those types of places.(I adore small shops like these.) The only downfall is the coffee, although unlimited refills, it's very watery. I must have liked this place, as I went here 2 days/mornings in a week. My first time was on a Thursday, and their dining room was fairly filled for a weekday morning. For take out, I got their breakfast burrito (Eugene's Burrito) and the breakfast quesadilla, so that my husband and I could split both and try it. Also, to share with my husband, I got their Gabi's Famous Pumpkin Pancakes, which is currently a seasonal special. Eugene's Burrito was good, stuffed with egg, and it is on the spicy side (and I like it!) with jalapeños being one of the ingredients. The breakfast quesadilla was good as well. I loved the pumpkin pancakes (but I practically love anything pumpkin), and I didn't need syrup for them, as they were sweetened just fine for me and had candied pecans on top. For my husband, he commented that he found the pancake "cakey" or cake-like rather than fluffy. On my second trip there, 2 mornings later, we went there as a family -- my husband, 2 kids, and me. My husband got the Farmer's Benedict, whereas I got one of the breakfast specials which had chorizo sausage, bell peppers, onions, and scrambled eggs mixed together atop their home fried potatoes, and we both enjoyed our dishes. We also enjoyed our warmed up scones; my husband had a maple one, and so had a chai one. One of my sons opted for the cheeseburger, which was already a $15 burger where he got to choose the cheese and another topping (sautéed onions). However, he also wanted avocado, mushrooms, and bacon. It ended up being a $22 burger (for our 9-yr-old), which is a bit steep; granted, he ordered all these toppings on it, but the burger is not very big (in diameter), so this was quite stacked with the ordered toppings. Was it worth $22, probably not. The burger patty itself seemed perfectly cooked though, as we asked for a medium cook.
