We eat here pretty often for breakfast and really enjoy it. The pancakes and french toast are very good, the eggs are always perfect, scrambled or fried. The sausage is pretty good. Home fries are very good, although i ask for them to be crisped a little (just my taste) Coffee is great, strong but great. We have had their Clam strips platter on one vist for lunch. Not so great. I am a little spoiled because i grew up on and around the coast of Mass and Ct that have a lot of good seafood places. These were just okay. They look amazing, but the clam strips themselves were small and not much taste, not like a truly fresh, high quality strip. Oh well, maybe we just had them on a bade day. The firies are very good. Soda was very good and not flat. Our waitresses are ALWAYS very attentive and very polite. Overall, we really enjoy the rustic atmosphere and good food. Drove 43 miles one way for breakfast to a pleasant experience. The food was very good, well prepared as asked, server friendly and efficient. The ambiance is nice and comfortable, French toast and sumptuous Blueberry pancakes (fried egg topped) delicious. Coffee very good with refills too. We'll be back ! I stopped at this restaurant as I was passaging through on the way to my destination. I ordered a patty melt and fries with lemonade to go. I sat at the counter for a little bit while I waited on my order. The waitress behind the counter was friendly she gave me my drink while I waited so that if I finished it, I could get my free refill before I left. I ended up needing that free refill because I dropped my drink in the parking lot and they got me a new one. The sandwich and fries were pretty good. I would have preferred a more sustainable packaging material than styrofoam for my to go plate and cup. read more

I'm torn with this rating - on the one hand, the wait was long, it seemed like there was some disorganization in getting the orders out, and they forgot to give us our vegetable sides. I can live without my spring veggie mix, but my dining companion was disappointed in not being able to try their coleslaw. However, the prices were reasonable, parking was sufficient, and the food we did receive was good. The homemade lobster bisque was amazing - creamy, not too much salt, and full of lobster deliciousness. I am willing to forgive all other transgressions for another taste of that bisque. My boiled scrod was okay - it didn't seem like it had enough sauce, but maybe with the crumb topping (which I opted out of) it adds more flavor. read more

Every time I'm in town, my brother and I make Log House our meeting place (on Tuesday's) for breakfast. The best ever, staff are funny and friendly and will remember pretty much what your order is and any special requests for the chef. Your never rushed nor ever have an empty cup of coffee. Yes, another working dinner meeting. This was the closest place for all the attendees (although, about an hour away from me), and while I had heard about it, I had never been here before. Maybe because I was up in the remote Northwest Corner that I found the place to be a bit 'rustic'--my first impression was the Double R Diner from Twin Peaks, and I wasn't too far off. The log cabin motif carried over from the outside (which looked more like a German chalet) to the inside, with faux "logs" as wall covering. But, since I don't rate on atmosphere (and, there was a lot of that here), let's move on to food and service. We came in one by one. Our server, a young girl barely out of high school, doted on us. No sooner than someone sat down, she was there taking a drink order (my impression that she was high schoolish stemmed from the fact she had trouble describing the beers). The menus were typical diner-style, with lots of pages of comfort food, and too many options to decide on something immediately. One thing jumped out at me: Liver and onions, and I immediately knew that was my choice; so few places even offer it as a special, that I had to try it. The server gave us some time before she took our orders, and went around the table efficiently, rattling off choices we now had to make (salad dressing, type of potato, type of vegetable). The way she did it made it sound like she was genuinely interested, rather than it being one of the boring parts of her job. She asked if we needed more drinks, and ran off to place our order. It didn't take long for food to arrive. Salads first, which were plentiful and fresh, and very soon after those were cleared, entrees. My liver and onions were a treat: lots of, each and nice crisp bacon on top, a huge pile of french fries, and my veggie was whipped butternut squash (which was deliciously sweet, with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg). I glanced around the table and saw that most of the plates were piled high with food. My liver was crisp outside, pink inside, and better than I had hoped. Check was presented when asked, and was quickly settled. If this wasn't so far out of the way, this would be my regular stop if I was in the mood for something home-style. We stopped in for a late lunch at the Log House Restaurant in Barkhamsted, CT when we observed a lots of local cars in the parking lot. We were greeted quickly and chose our table. Open for breakfast and lunch, both menus had good offerings. Our server arrived quickly and was very friendly. We selected the Bacon Cheddar Burger and the Thanksgiving Turkey, Stuffing, and Cranberry Sauce wrap, both with crispy French fries. The turkey's wrap is a personal favorite of mine, that I make at home after Thanksgiving. Both sandwiches had excellent flavor and were a healthy portion of food. The fries were some of the best we have had in recent memory - golden and crispy. If you are in the New Hartford area, stop in for a good, hearty lunch. We have been here several times and it is usually good. However today I ordered the 2×2×2×2 special and it was not very good. Eggs tasted old and French Toast also had an odd taste. Waitress Jean was very nice and apologized. She said her boss wouldn't want us to be unhappy and offered to replace my meal at no charge. I then ordered a Steak to replace the eggs - which after 2 attempts came out ok. Upon check out I was charged for the Steak. It is a cute, homey environment. I'm new to the area and have driven by several times. I decided to stop in for a late lunch/early dinner. I chose the corn chowder and shepherds pie. Soup came first. Although it had good flavor and nice chunks of potato (which I like!), The corn was chewy and gritty. Also, seemed like the roux was not cooked down enough. Had a lump of flour! The Shepard's pie was a very nice portion and good flavor, ad well. Unfortunately it had the same chewy/gritty corn in it! If you like country style home cooking, I highly recommend The Log House. Gone there several times and have had delicious meals, friendly service and large portions, all at a very affordable price. The Turkey dinner along with the Pot Roast and Roast Pork Loin are very very good! The menu also features delicious home made soups and desserts, as well as daily specials, sandwiches and breakfast. One of the oldest restaurants in the North West part of CT, been around for ages it seems. The menu is mainly diner fair with a flare, meaning there are items you wouldn't necessarily expect to find in a traditional diner. There are daily specials; service is always solid as there are at least 5 servers on staff; the food arrives fairly quickly from the kitchen even when they are busy, so it makes it easy for a quick in and out lunch or dinner. I don't get there often but if I am going to be in the general area it is a sure bet I will be stopping there. read more

Stopped in yesterday morning with the wife for breakfast, we were starving from an all-night fishing trip. 1st thing I noticed was the many signs about the place stating the increase in prices of 20% for all food because of bird flu that affected chickens. Well, if the average price for a dozen eggs was about $2.50 before the outbreak, and now it's 4 bucks, maybe $4.50, does it really warrant a 20% increase in prices across the board ? I don't think so, it's BS. Do the math. I like to support small business, but to me, it's taking advantage of a situation. Our breakfasts were OK, nothing special, the total bill was over $26, for a breakfast that should've been closer to 20 bucks. Yeah, the 20% increase hurt, but the prices were on the high side for an average breakfast before the increase anyway (we get around, see my list for breakfast places in CT). Like, charging an extra $2.50 for a side of home fry potatoes. Service was very good, our waitress was very nice & attentive. But the Log House has lost any future business from me, the value is simply not there. No, it's not a lot of money we're talking about here, but I refused to be nickel and dimed for a completely average breakfast. read more

I have to say next time I go back I won't forget the pictures because my words will not bring justice on how good there food looks and taste. It's one of my favorite little spots to eat now Unfortunately I am now a diabetic so I have to be careful in what I eat but it will not stop me from coming back here. Great Eats! Affordable glorious plentiful delicious eats!! My son and I both had a crock of onion soup which we consider ourselves connoisseur's of this particular soup. We highly recommend the onion soup. My son had chop beef which he reported was delicious. I had a corn beef Reuben with onions rings which were both out of this world. I stopped in here to pickup some breakfast after taking a hike in the nearby park. The pricing for a breakfast sandwich was very reasonable and with a side order of corned beef hash it ended up being an inexpensive order overall. The sandwiches were hot and well made when I picked them up and on a nice soft roll. The waitress who took my order and gave me my food was also friendly. Menu has a good selection for a variety of tastebuds. Also offer breakfest all day options which was tempting. My family and I enjoy visiting this establishment quite often for family meals. They feature a rustic old loghouse look with old wooden Hitchcock chairs and all. Menu has many daily specials and soups. My favorites are the turkey dinner or Yankee pot roast. Served with a side potato and veggie. The dessert selection is great too with home made pies and cakes. Prices are fairly decent for the portions you receive and the service is usually fast and friendly as well.
