Food is served very quick. Awesome presentation. Great cook. The service personnel (waitresses) have been there forever, and are very friendly and really like their job. What else can you ask for. They have a smile on their face and a bounce in their steps. The dining facility has numerous booths. Perfect for ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out). Clean bathrooms too, which is a must for me. The place has the charm of an old fashioned diner. It was very busy but we got a booth right away. The service was excellent! Our server, Laurie was as sweet as could be, very welcoming and attentive. Our food was served very quickly and it was tasty. I would have given one star but our waitress was very nice and accommodating. That was all the positiveness that I can share. I ordered a western omelet and my wife got three eggs scrambled with bacon and both dishes had home fries. The home fries was the first thing I noticed. The potatoes were very undercooked. It was as if I was eating raw potatoes and there was no seasoning to them. Even with salt and ketchup I couldn't eat them. I left them. The same for my wife. The omelette I barely was able to eat. The content on the inside were also very undercooked. Again, as if I was eating raw peppers and onions. The eggs were also covered in the oil they use to cook. The food came out very fast but the quality was completely lost. I think they should slow things down and get everything cooked and season lightly. Wasnt bad and service was friendly and fast! Prices were very fair and the menu had a good amount of offerings! However the potatoes had an odd taste to them and the omelette was very thin. If you're not a Bristol Native, you might not even notice Rodd's, unless you're specifically looking for it. Nestled below street level in a strip plaza next to the Pequabuck River, it's definitely a little hidden spot. Would I call it a "hidden gem" though? No, not really. First things first is the parking situation. It's *competitive*, to put it kindly. There are several stores in the strip mall, all with minimal parking. But Rodd's doesn't seem to have enough parking for the amount of tables they have. Due to the strip mall being below street level, it makes the parking situation even more precarious. The diner itself is small & dated; full of that tan-colored wood veneer that was popular in the 80s. There's booths & tables, so it's not so small you can't bring your family, but definitely too small for the events they do hold, such as the occasional 8-9 am state rep/senator meet & greet, which ends up truly only being able to comfortably handle a dozen constituents, max. The decor is dated, including the advertisement-clad placemats & mugs. The prices are in line with other diners in the area, & there isn't anything remarkable about what they do for breakfast in comparison to the other diners in town. The service is forgettable, with servers who aren't always looking their most presentable. As far as the food itself, they do a decent job. It comes out quickly, hot, and accurately. It's decent quality as far as ingredients, preparation, & taste are concerned. It's not unique or special, though, & the experience blends in with other dated mom & pop style diners. Overall, it's a typical diner. It's typical diner food. The restaurant itself isn't special, the parking is awful, and the customer service is forgettable. In a state with plenty of delicious breakfast options, it can be hard to choose just one. Rodd's has quickly grown into a favorite of mine with just how QUICK everything is. For starters, you walk right in and pick your own table; no need to wait for someone to seat you. I have always been greeted right away, had my drink and breakfast order taken care of, and then received my food piping hot and delicious! The home fries are absolutely to die for, crispy and seasoned right off the griddle. The portions are generous and the food is clearly made fresh; no frozen food here! I will say I much prefer their breakfast options to lunch options, as I did find a chicken wrap I got here once to be quite bland. I truly can't rave enough about the speed of this place. I really hate waiting for over 20 mins just to get a table for breakfast, and this happens quite a lot at other comparable breakfast places around. Went to Rodd's based on the reviews and how this restaurant has over 1 star is beyond me. This review isn't about the service, which was the saving grace, the complaint is about the food quality and the restaurant itself. I came on Saturday 13th at about 12:50pm. A little over an hour before business closing time, plenty of time to eat without rush. Sat down and noticed a few fruit flies or some sort of flying bugs doing their bug business around the table, ok maybe they're just looking for shelter in this cold day, right? Well I managed to kill a couple. Management maybe is used to hearing people clapping to kill the bugs because no one came to apologize for the nuisance. The menu itself had an amazing selection and I was eyeing the stuffed burgers they offer. I ordered the Mac and cheese stuffed burger, fries, coffee, and water. The bugs still flying around, some more clapping to kill another one, rinse and repeat once more till the order started to arrive. Everything got better after that, right? NO First to arrive was the water. I guess I can't complaint much about it, it's water. But it just tasted a bit off, maybe they don't use a filter for the water they serve for drinking, maybe they do have one but it definitely needs changing. Whatever, it's water. Next. Next item to arrive is the coffee. I drink my coffee black with no sugar, and this coffee was just AWFUL. This coffee tasted like it has been left sitting unattended and unchanged for a while. It was so bad I decided to drink the crappy water instead. Go figure. Bet it can't get worse than this once I get my burger. I was wrong again. Flying high and mighty, along with the bugs, was red flag number 3. The burger arrived and it managed to somehow be both overcooked AND undercooked. Right as I received it, I noticed the burnt, charred edge and sides, took a bite and had to pick out some of the STILL raw pieces near the middle. Another closer inspection and their version of "Mac and cheese stuffed burger" is just pasta mixed with whatever type of cheese that was, roll it into a ball and place it inside low quality meat. This burger had no flavor. Every bite had to be dipped in blue cheese just to taste some sort of passable flavor. The fries were half cooked fine and the other half was hard and dark from being fried too long. Those were also lathered in salt and pepper to get a hint of flavor. Decided picking out the raw parts of the burger wasn't worth the time anymore so I stopped eating just so at least I can finish my coffee but boy was I wrong yet again, MY COFFEE NOW HAD A FREAKING FLYING BUG IN IT! I've never felt so violated at a restaurant before, and I've been to Applebee's. I would never recommend this place to anyone. It was so bad, I had to create an account just so I can warn others to avoid this place like the plague. I will say my server were fast, attentive, and overall the best part of the visit. She deserves to work at a better place. It's not the servers' fault their boss doesn't care about the business. I paid and decided to have a much better meal across the street at Wings Over. And just so this review doesn't seem fake (I'd have a hard time believing some of the details myself too), I took some pictures. My brother said it best that Rodd's is the place you make sure you are a regular at if you are running for public office. It's a greasy spoon in the best sense of the word and it seems from my visits there that they have a lot of regulars who go and catch up with not only the staff but each other on a weekly basis. It's a great place for breakfast (although their lunch menu looks good as well). As the other reviewers said - they have food expedition down to a science. It was no more than 5 minutes after placing our order that our meals (correctly made and hot) were delivered to us. That's hustle! And regardless of how busy the restaurant is - the staff is always friendly and ready to re-fill your coffee. The food is not going to win any awards for creativity BUT it's good and really isn't that what a good local no frills restaurant is supposed to deliver. I think so! read more

Great Breakfast! Had another fantastic ham and cheese omelette today. Asked if they could do four eggs instead of the usual three. It was more like six eggs, loaded with ham, mushrooms and cheese. Included was delicious raisin bread and a slight upcharge for the corn beef hash instead of the home fries. They do the home fries any way you want it, deep fry, Cajun style, Italian style, whatever! The canned and homemade hash are both excellent too! My sister got a huge stuffed burger. They do all kind of stuffed breakfast burgers and today they served us some incredible French Meat Pies to go with our breakfast!! Very friendly wait staff. My family and I came here to eat in and I wasn't impressed. For starters the parking is terrible and after we sat ourselves down the server didn't even introduce herself or welcome us. Way overworked but they probably wouldn't have room for another server if they wanted to. The place is quaint and small which I like but way too cramped for the amount of business they do. They should have expanded the restaurant in my opinion. The food was ok but too bland for my taste. Then upon receiving our check they don't put the total on it! We asked the waitress how much and she didn't even know and said it was a "suprise". Then you have to stand at a cramped entrance to pay your bill while people trying to get in and out while hoovering over other people eating. I will continue to order for pick up in the future. My 5 year old Granddaughter recommended this breakfast place on our last visit and she was right! We went for lunch, got a delicious Breakfast Burger, egg and bacon inside perfectly cooked Hamburger, toasted Roll. My wife got a cheeseburger that was juicy and delicious, and Granddaughter got her favorite chocolate chip Waffle! Fries were crispy and big! Price was right on! Have been looking for a great Breakfast place, and after reading the ratings and reviews, decided to stop in and try Rodd's. Parking was not too bad, but it was pretty busy inside. We stepped in and saw all tables were taken except two, but both were not cleaned up from the last patrons. We stood at the front for a few minutes before someone came up and gave us a strange look, like "Why are you standing there?" So I said we are waiting for a table to open up. She said "sit at one of those tables (indicating the one not cleared), we will clean them up." This set the mood for a bad experience staring at a table full of dirty dishes and half eaten food for 5 minutes. The menu was impressive, and proved difficult to choose, my wife went with Eggs Benedict, substituting sausage patties for the Canadian bacon. and I chose the Polish Breakfast and asked to add onions to the potatoes and please have them well done. The food came out quickly and correctly. My wife enjoyed the Benedict, but complained how bland the Hollandaise sauce was. My eggs were cooked nicely, but the potatoes were mushy and flavorless. The one item I was really looking forward to was the kielbasa. Big disappointment; it tasted like a cheap hot dog, and was less than 3" long. Overall, the food was mediocre. Nothing special. Our favorite place for breakfast. You can literally go in and order and be out the door in half an hour. They are amazingly quick and have it down to a science. Coffee is great; wait staff HUSTLE!!! Prices very reasonable and no issues if you need to change things up a bit. Portions are generous. This morning we visited with one of our grandsons and he quickly made it through his French toast and insisted he'd eat the chocolate chip pancake but it was the size of his plate! I love this place! Finally updated, but still has that greasy spoon feel to it. Iv been coming here for at least 20 years for their breakfast. Best French toast around. Great omelette specials. Was with dad on this visit, he ordered the waffle and I had the meat lovers omelette (ham, bacon, sausage and American cheese.....freaking banging!! Soooo good and huge too. Came with well done home fries. Also had the hearty breakfast on another occasion, (see photo) - amazing!! So happy this place has never changed and look forward to returning. read more

I just had biscuits with sausage gravy (and two poached eggs) and I'm in heaven! The sausage gravy is better than what I make at home (the sausage is redolent of sage, cooked just right and the gravy is a perfect bechamel sauce). The biscuits were fresh and huge (sliced in half) and very tasty. The eggs were small ones (c'mon, use jumbo eggs!) but poached perfectly. Best pal had a burger which was tasty but apparently one must ask for lettuce and tomato; it wasn't included. A side of coleslaw had a wonderful dressing and was freshly made, but the cabbage was quite chunky. I like mine shredded or ground. Coffee is ground there and is delicious. They offer a variety of Eggs Benedict which seem to be a house specialty. Service was prompt and our food came out very quickly (although when we were there at 1:00 in the afternoon, there were only 2-3 other tables). All our diner favorites are featured on the menu, as well as crepes! The decor is a bit threadbare and dated, everything seems very clean, but it's very bright and, well, it's a diner... Beside the lettuce and tomato missing from our burger, we'd ordered "Goulash" (it was displayed on the specials board) and the chef hadn't told the server that it was all gone -- this necessitated a re-order and it was a bit awkward 'cause I didn't have a second choice in mind. Finally, the sausage gravy and biscuits are billed under "breakfast specials" at $6.95 and includes two eggs. When we got our bill, the sausage gravy was priced at 6.95 -- and then on the next line "two poached $2.35." I didn't complain, apparently at lunchtime, although breakfast is available, the eggs become extra. It was a great meal, however. We plan to go back -- and often. read more

My Family tried Rodd's today for the first time. We have been searching for a good breakfast place in Bristol that has reasonable prices. Based on the reviews on Yelp we decided to check it out. What a HORRIBLE idea! The service was bad- we had a hard time getting the servers attention multiple times, and while I was trying to get her attention I saw her behind the counter with her feet up on shelves that hold food/glasses, and texting.. not once but at least 3 different times. My daughter who usually loves pancakes would touch hers, my son who would eat a whole pound of bacon if I let him wouldn't eat his bacon, and my food sent me to the bathroom almost immediately! Their kids juice is $1.50 for about 6oz which is crazy to me when I could see them poor the juice from an aldi container... to boot when my child spilled hers almost instantaneously- the server didnt even ask if she would get us more... Oh yeah and we were over charged! Or "busy" texting server said we got 3 kids juices when we only got two.. My husband who hates to complain said we will NEVER go back there after that experience~ Come on Bristol- there has to be at least one good breakfast place! read more

I really wasn't impressed. My husband and I both got the #2; two eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage links and 2pancakes. I ask for my eggs over easy and they were a bit too runny. My bacon was burnt. The pancakes were really heavy. They completely forgot about my husband's toast because she wasn't used to someone ordering toast with a #2. He needed the toast to sop up the runny whites eggs. Plus there were fruit flies buzzing around our faces. They weren't very attentive to us. There were what appeared to be regulars that got a lot of attention though. Food was "meh" at best. I'll start with the bad, which there really is only 1 thing, and that's an overhaul updating on the look inside. It screams diner! Ok, we're past that, cause this isn't the type of place you go to to enjoy the atmosphere right? You go for the food... And I went for breakfast. Omelette cajun and regular home fries, and the standard toast. The omelettes are amazing, cooked just the right way, sausage and cheese, was really good, toast is toast.. It's the home fries that really got me. The Cajun ones are fairly spicy, which if you like spicy, it's great for you. Almost a little too much for my tastes though, which is why I also got the regular ones. And those were WOW. Very few places season their homefries the right way, this place is one of them (there are 2 other places that I've been to that's done them right). And they've done them right. I read that someone wasn't thrilled with their coffee. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but mine tasted fine to me. The waitstaff there is very friendly also. I will say there's a bit of a delay, but it was fairly busy and I like to give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to timing. But they were working hard, it'd be one thing if they weren't. So, all in all, great breakfast. One of these days I'll get back and try lunch. read more

I've been to the diner and the to go side both are excellent. We had breakfast at the diner the omelette was delicious and I recommend the banana bread French toast....outstanding.
