I've gone here twice in person and once for take out and the service is fast and consistent. Staff is friendly. I've only ever been served by Rae (probably because of where I'm sitting) but she's great. Menu has a lot of great breakfast/lunch options, prices are reasonable and the location is not bad. I grew up in Bristol many, many years ago and found myself back in the area to visit my parents. Now, it's been a long time since I've been on route 6 and thanks to nothing else in Bristol actually being open at 6am, I was able to try Good Friends! This place is located right across the street from the plaza I used to visit for Blockbuster, Strawberry's, and GameStop so I was pretty happy to finally go inside the place that used to be a bar with a horse logo. I entered a little after six and the place was absolutely empty. The women working the front was very friendly and had us seated with menus immediately. The menu here offers a large amount of breakfast and lunch options that were exactly what I was looking for. I ended up ordering one of my personal favourites, chicken fried state with some scrambled eggs, hash browns, and toast. The food was ordered and served super quickly and as you can see from the picture.....it disappeared pretty quickly as well. I really liked the chicken fried steak, the breading was delicious and really hit the spot. The scrambled eggs and the hash browns did the job as well, being cooked jus right and served hot. Overall, Good Friends was a top notch breakfast joint that I will absolutely be hitting up the next time I find myself in Connecticut. I've heard lots of great things about this place. Today while my husband and I were trying to figure out where we wanted our breakfast date to be I remembered Good Friends. I'm so happy we decided to try them-the food was delicious, I ordered eggs, bacon, home fries and toast. The portions were huge, I got 5 pieces of thick cut bacon-and I'm not talking about that fake thin bacon, I mean thick cut, fresh cooked bacon. My husband ordered corned beef and eggs and it was amazing! I wish I took a picture of his, but he cut into it and started devouring it before I could. The owner and her daughter were waiting on everyone, they came over several times to make sure everything was good. They were friendly and eager to be sure we were happy. Prices were great-$17 for both of us. Will definitely be back. Update-So, we've been back a bunch of times since my original review. Food is still great, they have a $4.99 breakfast special now (2 eggs, home fries, toast and coffee) that is worth every penny. Planning on going again next week! read more

I just slapped myself because WHAT ON EARTH HAVE I BEEN STALLING ON THIS PLACE FOR?!?!?! Right after their opening, a friend of mine (whose opinion I really respect) said the place was a nightmare. It was loud and slow and too hot and not a good experience. Well, it has been about a year since their opening and I figured they must have worked out their kinks by now, and if not, then it's somewhere I'd just never go again... Well, no need to worry here because THIS. PLACE. ROCKS! I wish more people knew about this gem because this place was empty for the majority of our visit. Our waitress was extremely polite and quick. Our first cups of coffee came out quick, but unfortunately were burnt. I would have definitely been okay with waiting 5 minutes for a fresh cup. It was a hard drink for sure. But that's nothing, really. The food is just so cheap and good! We got a plate of eggs, homefries, toast (coffee included), a breakfast sandwich loaded with bacon, a second coffee, and a Belgian waffle with strawberries and bananas for under $20! I was very pleased with the food. The home fries were so perfectly crispy. The best in town! I totally recommend this place to everyone who wants a filling, quality, diner breakfast. My only big recommendations are for them to put on some tv or music, make sure every patron gets a fresh first cup of coffee, and serve maple syrup hot in a pourable tin or at least a plastic bottle instead of to go syrup packets. This place was so underwhelming it almost wasn't even worth reviewing. My husband and I love a good local place that we can call our own, so when this spot was opening we thought it was going to be great. I'm not sure if it's because we went in the first week, or if because whomever owns the restaurant isn't a "business" person but this place is far from impressive. When we walked in, it was DARK. There was inadequate lighting in this place... seemingly only natural light which, only hit about 1/4 of the restaurant. It was also very warm and being cooked down by 1 single 8,000 BTU air conditioner, which was the only noise besides the hushed whispers of customers. No background music! This might be nitpicking- but when the waitress took our order, she clearly hadn't been a waitress before. There was no shorthand being used and it took her about 15-25 seconds each to write down our order. This was just kind of awkward lol The food was just.... I had gotten a salad that was in a bowl way too shallow and warm, served on a hot plate? It was impossible to eat and there was about a 1:8638 ratio of other salad items:lettuce. I think my husband got a Ruben and even that somehow was just a disaster. I've seen the people who own this place also sass people via FB when they critique them, which is never a good look. overall? yikes. read more

We wanted to like this place, but for us it missed the mark. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. However. This place is not friendly for anyone with sensory issues and/or autism. It is also not good for vegetarians. There are some options, however they are limited to salads. And you run the risk of getting a side of bacon and sausage when you only ordered pancakes and eggs. I am autistic with a sensory processing disorder. I almost had to leave before my food even arrived. It is 84 degrees outside and approximately the same inside. Even ceiling fans would have helped. No air circulation. It's also loud and echoes in there. I wish I had brought my noise cancelling headphones. It was so loud the waitress didn't hear my order the first time, and brought me straight vinegar for my dressing. Not what I ordered. Husband is vegetarian like me, though we do eat eggs and dairy. He ordered pancakes with eggs. Nothing else mentioned. He got and was charged for bacon and eggs. We didn't bother contesting it because by this point I was struggling and just wanted to eat and go. The food itself was just okay. Nothing fancy or complex. Salad was basically what I make at home. We might try again in six months to see if it has improved. I hope it does. read more

****This review is for the New Hartford location. I've never been to the Bristol restaurant.***** What a HUGE disappointment. Upon entering, I asked where the restrooms were, and the waitress had to ask another server. No paper towels in either the ladies or mens bathrooms, and only cold water to wash your hands. That's never a good sign, especially with everyone being extra cautious with Covid. No hot water to wash up before eating. Now, let's talk about the food. My husband ordered the brocolli rabe and sausage appetizer. Yuck. No flavor AT all. Sausage seemed boiled, there weren't any seasonings, olive oil, or parmesan....nothing. It was sitting in a puddle of sausage water with slivers of garlic that had zero taste. His bacon burger tasted like a frozen patty. The onion rings he "upgraded" to (there weren't many at all ) were ok. I ordered a side salad and a HOT ham grinder with lettuce, tomato, cheese, roasted peppers and mayo. My grinder came out very fast, and before my husband's burger and my salad. The only thing hot on the grinder was the bread. The ham and toppings were ICE cold. And there was no cheese, and no peppers. Barely any mayo. My Salas came out roward the end of the meal. Our server was nice, but seemed very new. She was chewing gum while taking our order and serving. I feel bad leaving a poor review for a new restaurant, but hopefully they'll read it and address some of the issues. Perhaps their breakfasts are better? Not sure, and we most likely won't return to find out. I hope they can make it work. read more

Have stooped in 4 times so far. 3 times for breakfast and once for lunch. Food is not fancy, but they don't pretend it is. My husband and I do like the breakfast. Service has been quick each time we went. My scrambled eggs have been cooked just right. I like the waffle and the French toast. My husband had the hot sausage and spinach omelet this morning, it looked great and he loved it. Lunch was pretty basic. The day we went there was only one waitress, but she was doing her upmost and the kitchen had all the orders out at the same time( we were a larger group). Good basic food, good service. read more

Today was there grand opening. Myself and a friend decided to stop in. We LOVE diner food. The staff is super friendly. Krissy served us. She was a sweetheart! I orders banana pancakes. 5 stars for the waitress but 2 stars is generous for the food. Asked about the corned beef hash & was told it's canned so I went with basic eggs over easy with bacon. Eggs were barely cooked, homefries were a mushy disaster & adding onion meant tossing a pile of strips of onion on top of them. Bacon was OK but a bit undercooked. My dining companion had French toast that was average and we both agreed the coffee was not great. Thank goodness it's not too hot today because their AC seemed to not be working. I'm disheartened to give two stars to Good Friends because I had high hopes for a good diner in town. First, I would give 5 stars to our waitress. She was very kind and attentive... in fact, everyone we interacted with was kind. I'm just not sure breakfast is their strong suit. I had a basic cheese omelet and the eggs were runny inside. My fiancé had eggs and hash and his eggs were hardly cooked, as well. The wait time for food was also a bit long and the temperature was extremely hot inside the diner. Tried the Good Friends Diner today. Very nicely renovated. Started with coffee, lukewarm but good. Next had 2 scrambled eggs, homefries and toast. Homefries need some work, very bland. Next pancakes. Poor. Very flat and rubbery. Not at all fluffy, as is my preference. 2nd coffee much hotter. Just ok. Went to lunch there today with my husband. I generally never eat burgers but decided to have one today. My husband had a breakfast meal, chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs. Came with home fries and toast. I had the bacon jalapeño cheese burger with fries. So good. Both of us couldn't finish so we took it home. I want to go again for the Spanish specials. You have to give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. And for Good Friends, keep doing what you're doing and you'll be around for a long time. We were on our way back to Buffalo, NY, and found that restaurants in this area of CT close early on Sundays. After two restaurants politely turned us away, we were told it was closing time at this restaurant too. Then a woman ran out to the parking lot to catch us and invited us back in. I was able too have dinner at good friends last night with my wife and two toddlers we had a fantastic meal and service. First let me start I am a professionally trained and degree holding chef from johnson and wales university I know food!! The chilli which was minimalist chilli beef beans and onions with amazing flavor it didn't need too hid behind cheese chips or sour cream I didn't even use the oyster crackers!! My turkey club was piled high with cold deli sliced turkey fresh iceberg lettuce and warm fresh toast the onion rings with a crispy crunch were great my kids had fries they are kids after all and they devoured a entire plate my wife had a veggie omelet which she shared some of those flavorful home fries with me and they were indeed good she also said her omelet was perfect! The service was beyond good the food came out fast and fresh and the restaurant is very clean my kids even got too see the kitchen I look forward too eating here again and again I hope they can sustain the local buisness as the restaurant has been multiple other spots that have failed however none were this good nor were they open these hours best of luck Good Friends!
