Since I was out in the area for work, I decided to check out some lunch. While I'd have loved to try more kind of dumplings, you get quite a lot per order, so by myself it was a task to get through it all. Started with the steamed Lili's special dumplings: pork, shrimp, chives, and Napa cabbage. Good skin, though the filling is lightly seasoned. I guess that gives a clean taste along with having the option to use soy sauce, black vinegar, and chili oil to your preference. I did a mix of soy and vinegar with a small bit of chili oil. Then I had the house beef noodle soup. Good broth and tender beef. It was more sliced than chunks with noticable cartilage that was cooked until tender. I went on Friday at about 3:30. I was the only customer and was seated promptly. I had the green onion pancake which was crispy but mostly flavorless. I had the Lili's Special Dumplings - pork, shrimp, chives and Napa. I paid the extra $1 to have them pan-fried. They were very tasty and didn't even need dumpling sauce (good since they didn't bring any). About half were cooked crispy, and the rest I brought home will crisp up nicely in the air fryer. Overall the food was ok. I enjoyed the dumplings but am not a huge dumpling fan in general. About $25 with tip. One thing to note was that the floor of the restaurant was noticeably dirty - crumbs, etc. considering it was before the dinner rush, I would have expected it to be clean. Stopped in for lunch on a holiday weekday and they were pretty busy with somewhat larger groups and there was only one lady working the dining room and WOW, did she hustle the entire time we were there! She did an adequate job keeping up with our table, but I did get up to get things our table needed (silverware, napkins, container, etc). The menu is decent with a large list of dumplings, but no soup dumplings. We tried many items from the menu... The scallion pancakes were really nicely done! Flaky and flavorful, but somewhat thick. The spicy won ton wasn't very good, watered down sauce and paperthin, over-steamed wrapper... hardly much flavor to the entire dish. The dan dan noodles were very spicy and very tasty! The cucumbers were nicely done, great sesame oil and garlic flavoring, but they really needed to be spicy, so I added a little to make them taste better. Still, they were really good on their own. The chicken scallion pan fried dumplings were good... nice flavor. I tried several other items and what I tasted was just OK, nothing really "hit" or was special though. Their sauce offerings is basic too... they had the smokey chili flakes in oil, which isn't very spicy and is typically just basic and bland. They also had black garlic vinegar which wasn't very garlicy. Lastly, they had soy sauce. So, mixing the soy sauce with the chili flakes made an acceptable sauce for the dumplings. The oil is kinda bad here, like they haven't changed it for a while. Crab rangoons were salty rather than sweet, which was what I was expecting. Service was nice. The two ladies who took our orders were really attentive and wished my friends and I Happy New Years. I got the pork with cilantro dumplings and I would not recommend getting it or any of the pork dumplings. It had this weird aftertaste, but everything else we ordered was fantastic, especially the rangoons. Came here with my friend since we were craving soup dumplings and hand pulled noodles (and just more authentic Chinese food in general)! Food was overall good but didn't "wow" me in flavor. Some of the food items tasted like things I could make myself at home which could be both a pro and just ok factor (beef noodle soup was very homely for instance) The soup dumplings were good but the juicyness really came from the meat rather than general soup. I prefer soup dumplings where you bite in and soup leaks out but this one was mainly just the Noteable tender and juicy meat inside. Flavor is good though. The xinjiang style pork ribs were well seasoned thought didn't expect the slight sweetness. Was delicious nevertheless! Rice cake was satisfying! A friend of ours had been here and said the dumplings were good. This was our first visit. We went during the work week and arrived before 6:00pm to find only one table occupied. But, within just a few minutes, there were several other tables taken and the takeout business was booming. We had the soup dumplings and they were great. Maybe not up to Beijing quality, but good with only a little soup. The chive pancakes were good but with a little too much oil. The Lo menu was good with plenty left for tomorrows lunch. There was only one waitress; but she everything under control and no one seemed to need to wait for anything. Even with several other patrons, the restaurant seemed too quiet. It's ok. I mean if you like frozen dumplings that are not fresh then this is the spot for you. I myself like freshly made to order food. Yes that makes me a food snob, and no I probably shouldn't critique and Chinese take out shop but we went we tried it and we were disappointed. GET THE PORK RIBS! We went here for lunch on a cold winter day and it sure hit the spot! Spicy Wonton Soup- simple yet satisfying! The broth is so clear that I had judged it to lack flavor but I was wrong. Pork and Chive Dumpling- done right! Lili's Special Dumpling- sooo good! Pork Ribs- the beeest! Whatever seasoning they put on it, it was bomb!!!! I could eat the entire plate by myself. So so so goooood! The serving were huge. We ended up taking home most of the dumplings. OMG the old Asian crone at the door began by attempting to give me a verbal dressing down (she had mistaken me for a DoorDash driver... Who does that??!?). Now one of my favorites, the yelp rating is too low. I've never had a meal here that wasn't high quality, hot, and super consistent. If you're on the fence, come for the hot and sour soup. It's the best in NoVa and they are one of the few places that do it right... thick, dark, super peppery. Most other places it's too thin with no spice. There is also an unusual dish that's worth a trip, Xinjiang Style Pork Fried Ribs, which I haven't seen anywhere else. It's a bit expensive but fantastic flavor. The ribs look dry but are really tender, maybe a very thin glaze, and then coated in this unique paste or dry rub made of crushed peanuts, garlic, scallions, sesame and crushed peppers. It's so good. Salty and savory. The dumplings are fine but, for me, half of what I like about dumplings is some sort of nice sauce like soy ginger... these don't come with any, I guess with authentic dumplings you normally just mix soy and chili oil. I like having an order of potstickers anyway, nice fried flavor. This is clearly a bit more authentic than typical strip mall Chinese, but it's not expensive or too strange for American taste buds. They have a section of just american-style chinese, where you can find the usual suspects like general tso's, beef with broccoli, kung pao. General tso's, Orange, and Sesame chicken are similar, properly breaded, crispy, mostly or all white meat. The kung pao is good with lots of veggies. Hunan chicken has a nice smoky flavor. This is a place where I feel safe trying something new because nothing is cheap or low quality, and service has always been fine, they are friendly. read more

I will definitely return to Dumpling Queen. I tried the North China Mung Bean Noodles with Chicken and Mixed Vegetables. I could eat that every day. It was fresh and crisp, had a little bite to it and great depth of flavor. It also had cilantro; if you don't like that, ask to not add it. The crispy beef was flavorful but not crispy. Pretty sure it was because it was a take out order and traveled 20 minutes sealed with its sauce. Wanted a quick bite, and to try something new so we went in here without much research for an authentic experience. got seated immediately and we went around 6:30-6:45pm. table and menu were slightly dirty with oil or something so that was a star deducted. food was alright - u can tell they handmade things to order so everything was really fresh, i loved that. They didn't have all the same shape, but they were great. They had big pieces of meat and you could tell they used fresh ingredients. We came here with a big group called for reservations. When we arrived our 2 tables were ready. We sat down and they got our drink orders first and few minutes later got our food orders. I ordered soup, dumplings and general tso chicken for the kids. All out of ours in our group did not come out together and a few orders actually never came out. Not sure what happened but we waited for a long time and even asked about it but it still took a long time. They even tied to make up for it by bringing dishes out that was already ready but that wasn't what was ordered. Our waters barely got refilled, we didn't have utensils and needed napkins. At this point I was getting up to get everything myself. Our soup was good although it was a different version of beef west lake soup than what we usually get from other honest restaurants. The steamed dumplings were good although I did try one that was pan fried which I thought was even better. The general tso chicken I thought was basic. There was also an incident where a credit card was found on the floor next to one of our tables. Someone who was leaving happens to pick it up and asked if it was ours. It wasn't in fact ours. It belonged to someone from another table and fell as they were bringing back their check. The gentlemen heard is sayin there was a credit card and came to our table to pick it up. That could've ended differently and a lot worse. Overall i thought the food was okay. The service was definitely not good and not sure i would return. read more

Was shocked when we went to try this place for the first (and last) time. My family and I were looking forward to some good authentic food based on some of the reviews but sadly disappointed. They have some interesting dumplings (like lamb and chive), but don't neglect the other items on the menu. The dumplings were good, but not the best. Their chive box appetizer was probably the best thing we had. The standard fare of five spice beef was dry and overcooked (supposed to be moist), while the other appetizers were fine but tiny. Came here for an early dinner. The winner was def the pork ribs! It's seasoned w/ five spice/cumin & crispy! The were okay, the XLB skin was a lil thicker than usual, pork & chive was a lil bland. This is one of my friend's favorite places to hit up for soup dumplings. I've been here several times and love the snow pea tips and fried spare ribs with all its crunchy fried sprinkles (please put it in a jar and sell it as a topping!). The service is friendly and fast and they do a good job of balancing take out orders and in restaurant diners even with a slim staff. I docked one star because although the shiao long bao are pretty good, they may have changed the recipe because there used to be more velvety broth in each heavenly package. read more

Dumpling Queen is one of my favorite spots for family lunch.  It is tucked away in a strip center and is a true hidden gem.  We always order Lili's special dumplings to start.  Our favorite dish is no longer on the menu for some reason, so I guess it is now a secret special item!!  Luckily, if you ask for the spicy cold noodles, they will gladly make it for you!  It may sound silly, but we like the marinade so much that we always take it home and then add some of our own pasta for an almost as good second helping!  We also really like the crispy beef.  We so enjoy our traditional order that it can be hard to stray.  Fortunately, we have big appetites, so we almost always try something new each time and have never been disappointed. Yesterday, we tried the mango shrimp.  It may be a little sweet for some but that sauce came home too!  We are a family that loves different sauces if you can't tell...  The service staff is friendly and helpful though they can be really busy when the restaurant gets crowded. read more
