We really enjoyed our experience at the Driftaway Cafe. The food was good and the atmosphere on the back deck was phenomenal! THE ATMOSPHERE - We sat on the back deck which is set in a magical garden area. It's such a fantastic place to eat. Plants and landscaping surround you. A friendly cat walks around looking for someone to pet her and possibly feed her. The staff even gave my daughter some food to feed the cat. - Front porch seating is nice too, with more of a beach house atmosphere - Indoor seating is available, also with a beach house atmosphere. It wasn't bad, but I'd recommend either the back deck or the front patio if the weather is nice outside (highly recommend back deck) THE FOOD - The crab dip was good. It was almost like a chicken salad, but made with crab meat. - Bang Bang chicken was good but I have had better bang bang sauce at other restaurants. - Kids fried shrimp and fries were fantastic. I would order fried shrimp on my next visit. It was tender and delicious. read more

Great food and friendly staff. I highly recommend the crab dip and firecracker shrimp tacos.

I've been here quite a few times as my sister moved to the area in 2020. Always a great experience and recommend the firecracker shrimp tacos! This time we also split the chicken pecan salad and it was also good. The service is always great and they make us feel welcome with kids as well. read more

I was vacationing inSavannah Ga with my hubby and fur baby so of course looking for things to do and places to eat with my baby. They are dog friendly, staff very kind and helpful. Ambiance was very cool! outdoor patio was shaded with fans and a ton of cute potted plants and outdoor decor. Food was delicious! tried their Crab stew in a cup. Was very tasty with plenty of crab. Hot and fresh. Had generous amount in a cup but wanting more so good. Both mu hubby and I ordered the Fish and Chips. Had fresh Grouper ofnthe day which it was prepared in. Very light crunchy and delicious. Would definitely visit again when in the area. read more

We sat on the back/side balcony, and it was lovely! Very cute decorations and knickknacks all over. We had: - Crab soup (good, but tons of little shell pieces inside) - Fried green tomatoes (average) Although we didn't love the food, we liked how casual and inviting the outdoor space was, so we'll be back. read more

Found ourselves back in Savannah for the first time in three years and decided to go back here twice during our five day stay. It's a cute building and we were seated in the rear/back side overlooking a small stream. The first evening our server was Rachel, she was friendly and funny and checked on us often. Hubby loved his Tybee Tuna and my Firecracker Shrimp Platter was delicious. It had so many shrimp (12), I gave a couple to him. Mine came with red potatoes, which were seasoned nicely. The asparagus was room temperature but it has a tendency to cool off fast. We went all out and had dessert too - Triple Layer Chocolate Cake and Key Lime Pie. Both were moist and tasted great. On our second trip, our server was Anna (I believe). She was also very friendly and helpful since the first item my husband wanted they were out of. We ordered the Crab Dip with chips and pitas (Anna's suggestion to have both chip types). Not only was the dip fantastic but so were the homemade chips and pita pieces (which were crisped on the outside). The entrees were Fish N Chips and Baja Fish Tacos with the fish of the day - Grouper. Never had Grouper before, it had a really nice flavor and worked well with the tortillas. Everything was excellent! They also have great unsweet ice tea. read more

We found Driftaway Cafe based on Yelp, Tripadvisor, and Google reviews. This was a 1st time trip to Savannah and a search for decent food. Driftaway Cafe was the BEST meal that we had during this trip! The crab stew was FULL of crab and flavor! The salmon tacos were amazing. Despite the burger being cooked more than the requested temperature of medium, it was still delicious. They were busy and the service was phenomenal. Driftaway Cafe is a quaint, casual location with charming beach decor. If you want great food, service, and atmosphere when visiting the Savannah area make sure to stop here. The parking lot was full, but there is plenty of parking across the street. read more

Been wanting to try this place for a while now. I ordered the sesame ginger chicken salad and my husband ordered a Key West Cuban sandwich. Prices were reasonable and both meals were very tasty. The wait time was not long at all even though we were there during the busy dinner hours. Aesthetically- inside and outside the restaurant has nice coastal decor. Lots of beautiful plants and a wall mural inside. Server- Our waitress was nice and attentive. Will definitely be back! read more

Service was great. She was courteous polite and wore a mask the entire time. Plenty of ice in our drinks and frequent refills due to heat. Outside fans helped. My food was a bit too salty but tasty and good. I would prefer more green vegetables over starch veg like potatoes. Very much enjoyed the experience. read more

As soon as we walked in, we knew we were in for a treat. The staff greeted us with a smile and seated us quickly. The setting was quaint and eclectic. I absolutely LOVED watching the birds and turtle while dining! But let's discuss the food, shall we? This was some of the BEST food my husband and I have had. Period. The appetizer, entrees, AND dessert. Impeccable. read more

So glad we decided to drive out from Savannah. The service was fantastic and food was fresh and delicious. We started with the fried green tomatoes appetizer. Delicious. I for sure loved the food we ordered. The fried oysters were too salty for me but the fried fish was perfect! It was crunchy outside and tender inside which I am very picky about. The service was great so as the environment. You can find the menu on https://app.driftawaycafe.com/m/driftawaycafe/?appcode=driftawaycafe&controller=WebViewController&tab_id=9854436 read more

Love the shrimp and grits, but my husband had the blueberry salmon and thought it was amazing. I was extremely disappointed that the watermelon peach salad special was sold out after we were given our plates to share it, but I guess it was just that good. Servers were very nice and seated us by the back window that had beautiful garden and waterfall. read more

While visiting friends who had recently moved to the area, we decided to grab a casual dinner in the neighborhood. We chose Driftaway Cafe because we were looking for a local spot off the beaten path. Pulling up, the gravel parking lot was full. Luckily we found a spot and headed in. I was surprised it wasn't as busy as expected given the crowded lot. We had to search for a hostess to be seated and once we found her she was very gracious. We decided to sit out on their front porch which I loved having just arrived from Chicago where the weather was still cold and rainy. The outdoor area was simple but cute. Around the perimeter were a ton of decor. I saw photos of a back area that looked great but I did not see it. The wine and cocktails were tasty. We tried the tuna tartare, seafood pasta and the fish tacos and enjoyed everything. The portion size and price point were spot on. Overall I think this restaurant is a good choice for locals or visitors. Our server brought our food but not give us plates or silverware so I had to go inside to find someone to assist us with this. I think the service was a bit slow and spotty but pleasant. Driftaway Cafe is a solid choice. read more

I was hopeful about this place based on the reviews but it fell short! We waited over 2 hour to get our food. It just took forever and there were only 4 or 5 other tables being waits on in the restaurant. It was so not at capacity. We had to flag down our waitress to check on it and she said they had a new fryer but another cook just stepped in to help. My husband had ordered the ahi tuna, but the mashed potatoes underneath was lukewarm. Obviously this dish was made before for our fried items were done. The crab dip was good if you love a lot of cream cheese. It was too rich and overwhelmed the crab inside. My grouper sandwich was great and fried well. I ordered a side salad instead of fries but the homemade croutons were not fully toasted and soft. The salad was nothing, just greens and soft croutons. No other ingredients. Also messing up the order and forgetting to serve the salad. My husbands beer was not cold and barely cool. He ordered a cold glass the second time but the glass was barely cool too. The bar was hopping with local seniors. Obviously it's a meet up place in the area and they were having a nice time. Over all the food was ok, but the service and consistently is not on. If you have a lot of time for some ok food this is the place for you! read more

Great food. Great service. The only problem is the noise coming from the kitchen. They were swearing quite a lot so I guess they thought they should turn up the music they were playing in there (separate from the music playing in the restaurant itself) so customers couldn't hear them. Unfortunately, they just started swearing and talking louder so they could be heard over the loud music. Really obnoxious and very disappointing. read more

Live entertainment greeted us when we entered on this cold Wednesday evening. It was crowded with loyal local customers enjoying the casual coastal vibe. You'll find a menu with plenty of local seafood options like Blue Crab stew. If you prefer turf over surf they have plenty of options. The Fish N' Chips, $16, of fried grouper was crispy delicious. The side of fries were nothing special, and the cole slaw was crunchy with a creamy, slightly sweet dressing. The appetizer of Firecracker Shrimp, $17, was a favorite of everything we tasted! This can also be ordered as an entree. These local shrimp are flash fried and garnished with black sesame seeds, diced green onions and red peppers and drizzled with there slight heat "firecracker" sauce. Yummy! Other helpful information to note: *full bar *weekend brunch until 2:00. *catering available *gift cards available *live entertainment *inside or covered deck dining read more

This place is great! Classic southern lunch. But the real reason to come is the music. If you're in your 60s, it will be like being back in high school. Doobie Brothers, Hall and Oates, the freaking pina colada song! It was so much fun. Service was awesome. Portions gigantic read more

Ambiance: We came on an early Tuesday afternoon. There weren't many people here when we arrived but was pretty full by the time we left. Thankfully the tables are pretty spaced out. We were in the back garden area which was lovely. Customer Service: The waitress that we had was wonderful. She very attentive, came over frequently to check on us, made helpful suggestions, and engaged us in conversations about tea varieties, the garden, neighboring area, etc. Food: Appetizer: Calamari. Pro: It tasted fresh, the accompanying sauce and sun dried tomatoes were excellent. Con: Not enough calamari for the price. Entrees: Fried fish sandwich. Pro: Plenty of sandwich for your money. Con: Bland and under seasoned. Firecracker shrimp tacos. Pro: The pieces of shrimp were big. Con: There was no "fire" in the firecracker shrimp. It is more sweet than heat. Desserts: Caramel cake and Bailey cheesecake. Both were just okay. Nothing special. Overall it was just okay. Would we come here again... maybe... and not anytime soon. read more

Enjoyed an early dinner here on a Friday night. Loved the cute & quirky aesthetic. We had a nice booth with a monkey swinging right outside our window. Good service- laid back but still professional. Both the hubs and I ordered Firecracker Shrimp Tacos. They were bomb! Smokey, sweet & spicy sauce with a fresh salsa. Huge fresh tasting shrimp in a crunchy batter .... was so tasty! We look forward to coming back! read more

Love driftaway. Amazing food, great service and great owners. Cant wait to come back. Great atmosphere and always satisfied

Found myself in the Sandfly area a few days ago, so my wife and I stopped in for lunch. It's a cute spot tucked away off of Skidaway Rd., with nice outdoor seating areas in both front and back, as well as a nice-looking bar area and indoor dining room. The service was friendly, albeit not well-polished. After using our phones to access the menu by way of the QR code, we both decided on our entrées. Unfortunately, our server subsequently informed us that entrées are only available after 5pm. (To be fair, this notice is written on the online menu, but my wife and I both missed seeing it.) Since my wife has Celiac disease and can't eat bread, she ordered the Wormsloe Wedge salad with shrimp. I wasn't in the mood for a salad, and since there weren't any Vegan or vegetarian sandwich, wrap, or taco options, I just ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer and a side order of french fries. I also ordered a draft Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale (8.2% ABV) to quaff while we waited on our meal. Not only was this my favorite aspect of my "meal," I want to make particular note of the fact that Driftaway has an impressive amount of both draft and canned/bottled beer and ales. I would return just for this aspect of the bar/restaurant. While the food and service would normally rate an "okay" three-star rating from me, I'll add another one for the bar. read more

Well, I'm updating my 2020 review, based on the last two recent visits to The Driftaway. The bad news is that they Driftaway has drifted.....a lot. Last two visits, a lunch in March and dinner last night were very disappointing. Both times the service was bad (long waits for food, not the waitress) and not as tasty as before, and last night.......ugh, the fish/chips was 1/3 breading, my shrimp/oysters were barely warm, as was my wife's stir fry. Even the french fries were not as good. Apparently the F/C was coming out last as it was very hot, but my seafood and my wife's meals were just warm. Semi warm shrimp and oysters are not good. Oysters were highly breaded, too. Need to step up your game! Was once a very good place to eat....see my earlier review. read more
