TL;DR; Call these guys first.
One of our two A/C units and both water heaters in our house conspired to fail simultaneously,. The remaining A/C unit was already 12+ years old, and I figured it wasn't long for the world either. Both furnaces, also 12+ years old, were looking shaky as well, so I decided to replace everything and I was looking at a serious cash outlay to get that done.
For the A/C work, I had five different service providers give me quotes. Dragonfly:
1) Responded fastest.
2) Provided a written, detailed and professional quote.
3) Bid a little more than *half* what the highest bidder bid, and beat the average by 20%.
Once the work-order was set, the Dragonfly crew showed up, on time, and got both systems installed and running in about 5 hours. From past experience, that's very good time.
Dragonfly's owner, James Moore, was on hand to supervise. He answered all my questions, walked me through system operation, and made sure I had all the documentation. They even register the units with the manufacturer for you.
The real measure of a company, though, is what happens when things go wrong. Remember those water heaters? The new gas water heaters had been installed the day before the Dragonfly crew came in, and they had been working fine. The morning after the A/C install, the pilot lights in both heaters were out, and I could not get them lit. The question was, who was at fault: me, Dragonfly, or the crew that installed the heaters?
Since the furnaces were gas, which meant that the Dragonfly crew must have had to shut the gas off, and since both heaters had been fine until after the A/C install, I called Dragonfly.
There was a tech at my door 30 minutes later.
Turned out that the only problem was that the gas lines for the heaters hadn't been bled after the A/C install, so there was air in the lines, which made them hard to light. The tech got them lit again, no charge, and was out in 15 minutes.
Yes, technically, Dragonfly messed up; they should have made certain that all gas appliances were operating after the install. I've dealt with enough service providers in my time to understand that they *all* make mistakes from time-to-time. The important thing is what happens when they do.
I took a star off for the heaters; gave it back again for the response. read more
