For not a lot of money, they come out twice per year and perform a very thorough pre cooling season and a pre heating system check in order to head off any problems. So far, I've had no problems. I have been using Local AC & Heating for all of my HVAC needs for the last 7+ years. They have always been prompt, friendly, and don't leave until you are satisfied with the completed job. My most recent experience proved to be a complicated issue that required them to diagnose an uncommon issue with the unit. When the first fix didn't resolve the issue completely, they sent another technician out the next day to make it right at no additional charge. I'm writing this review after 3 years of ongoing issues and regret from choosing this company. I initially stayed quiet, but the lasting consequences of their poor and deceptive work, and other  people's review for a similar error compelled me to share. The owner presents him as honest and response quickly -- which is exactly why I selected him among other contractors. In hindsight, that image appears to be part of a strategy to lure in customers, especially those unfamiliar with HVAC technicalities or, like me, managing property remotely and relying on professional integrity. I signed a contract with Josh for a  $8,869 HVAC , which explicitly required: he pull the proper permit before beginning work. Despite texting me two days before the scheduled installation saying he "cannot start work (as originally scheduled ) until the permit is approved," and later delaying by another day to "finish the permit," his pretended honest practice  fooled me. He particular said he "got approval this morning", but I later confirmed that no permit was ever pulled before the installation at all.  The permit Josh claimed before the job did not exist. Also, he installed a completely different brand of HVAC system than what we agreed upon in the contract -- and never disclosed this to me before or after the installation. I only discovered it days later when speaking to my tenant about the HVAC. Had I not followed up, I would have never known! It's a bait-and-switch behavior, lack of honest, unethical. As a remote landlord, the permit was especially important to me to ensure everything met city standards without me having to physically oversee the work. Josh's failure to follow contract terms, coupled with his intentional misrepresentation of the permitting process. If I had known how misleading and irresponsible this company would be, I would never have hired them. read more

We purchased a new AC unit from Local A/C in July of 2022. After just two summers of use, the system stopped working. I had a conversation with Josh from Local A/C where I asked him about the warranty, including if this issue would be covered. He mentioned that the 1-year labor warranty was no longer valid but were relieved to understand from the conversation that this would likely be covered by the 10-year parts warranty. I proceeded to cancelling a separate HVAC company from coming out for inspection since we were led to believe this would be taken care of by Local A/C. Their HVAC technician did the inspection and found a Freon leak at the bottom of the soldered copper line connection -- a part Local A/C installed. Despite this being an install error, Josh refused to take responsibility, hiding behind a 1-year labor warranty and dismissing any accountability. As this home has been a rental home for the last 2 years, prior to me moving back here, this issue went unaddressed early and now I'm left covering an exuberant $1,280 repair estimate for a job that should have been done right the first time. I decided to bring in the second HVAC technician, who confirmed that despite it being a high pressure line, the solder is meant to remain sealed after the weld (which Josh claimed the high pressure made the pinhole) and the install was likely done without being double checked since the small pinhole was on the underside. The new technician showed me two tools used to ensure proper welds all the way around and that this was just a sign of quick work and poor workmanship. This experience mirrors other complaints -- just read Andrea B.'s review from February 2025. From surprise charges to dismissive service, this company has a pattern of failing its customers. Save yourself the stress of working with negligence, overpricing and deflection to the customer being wrong and choose a more reputable and professional HVAC company. As a side note, when pricing out a repair, the average price range to repair the leak and add new freon was between $400-700, well below the estimate from Local A/C. read more

My AC had begun performing poorly, so I called my usual AC repair company (not Local Air) and they determined it was a faulty evaporator coil. I trusted their evaluation but felt their repair quote was high. I contacted 10 other AC repair companies to see if they could offer me a better rate. Local Air Conditioning & Heating ended up offering the lowest rate, and I was able to schedule a repair immediately. Brian and Jose did an outstanding job. They worked in the attic above my office, and I hardly knew they were there. When I could hear them--which wasn't often b/c they spoke infrequently and quietly--their conversation was about the job. At one point they left to pick up a part, and they thoughtfully retracted the attic steps, even though they would be returning shortly. When their work was complete, I mentioned an additional issue I was having regarding poor airflow from the supply vent in my office. Brian investigated and found an airflow dampener on the duct leading to the office. He adjusted it, and the transformation was amazing! I now have a wintery blast of arctic wind cooling my office :). After Brian and Jose departed, I noticed a gurgling sound coming from the drain in my bathroom sink. I called Josh who quickly theorized what might be going on given the recent repair. He explained the simple steps that would fix the issue and five minutes later the gurgling was gone. I'll begin by saying that the work by Local A/C was done promptly and our air conditioning has worked well since their visit. However, I would advise finding a different company on the basis of poor customer relations and hazy pricing/quoting practices. Local performed a service call on 7/3/2024. The technician filled our a/c with refrigerant and advised that there was a leak and we were in need of new a/c units. The technician said he would send a quote for the new units. Eight days later, on 7/11/2024, the company charged my credit card for $99. I did not receive a quote or invoice for the refrigerant charge until today, 2/3/2025, 7 months after the service. Joshua contacted me via text today, in February of the year after the service, alleging an unpaid invoice for $600 for refrigerant that was administered in July of the year prior. I have received nothing from him or this company in the interim 7 month period. He could produce no signed quote for the cost of the refrigerant service - because there was none - and continued to harass me for close to an hour via text. We paid the invoice because we don't expect service providers to do free work; however, the way he conducted business was shady at best. read more

I prefer to use businesses and tradesmen with ties to the community and like consistency so that I know who I'm allowing onto my property and into my home year over year. Brian was terrific: likable, genuine, and efficient without making me feel rushed as I explained my issues and escorted him to where system components are. Questions were answered candidly and casually, without any trace irritation or condescension (meant a lot to me). The blower motor for the HVAC fan gave up a few nights ago, and it was time to get it replaced instead of a temporary fix. I remember seeing a lot of positive comments about Josh at Local Air, so I gave him a call and explained the situation. He came to the house in about 30 min to take a look and confirmed a new motor was required. Unfortunately to no blame of theirs, the parts warehouse was closed (it was about 8PM), so the part would have to wait until the next morning. Josh helped with a temporary fix that gave us at least some A/C for a few hours, which helped immensely. He arrived early next morning, brand new motor in hand, and quickly replaced the old one. Thankful it happened on a day it was only projected to get up to 96, because the rest of the week should be 100+. I had a home warranty with AHS and reported my AC wasn't working. Their contractor came out Monday and advised I needed a new coil on an old system and maybe I should think about a new unit. That contractor also contacted me with a hard sell on a new unit with them. After reading those reviews and having issues with a general contractor a couple of years ago, I decided to check into this further. AHS told me that I would have to pay $2800 over and above their cost of repair (junk charges + refrigerant). We are talking a big investment. So, I spend $2800 to put a new coil in an obsolete unit and risk another leak and all the refrigerant leaking again, nope. I had a friend that recently had a unit put in and she said she found a great contractor. I found Josh with Local Air online, reviews were great and sent a request for service after midnight on Wednesday morning. Josh was the same contractor my friend couldn't say enough great things about him and his company. Josh called me at 8:30 said he could be there in 20 minutes. I asked for 30 and he showed up on time. He checked both of my units and the main one definitely has an issue. My smaller unit was fine. We talked about repairing the old system by AHS and having to pay a lot of money for refrigerant (the old stuff) plus "junk" charges put on by the contractor because the warranty won't pay them enough for this big job. Josh gave me a reasonable quote and I asked when it could be done. He told me if his installers weren't busy, that afternoon. If not, the next day! Wow! August in Austin? I had been 4 days with AC downstairs and I was thrilled. Hired them, the installers came out the next day, and new unit in and running great in about 6 hours. Josh came by to check everything out and would answer any questions I had. This is amazing service for a local small business. If you have any AC problems, just call Josh at Local Air Conditioning. Our downstairs AC unit stopped working one morning right before temps were set to ramp up into the triple digits. I called several HVAC servicing companies, and I was grateful that Local Air Conditioning was able to get someone out late in the afternoon. Brian asked a few questions and immediately had an idea of what the problem might be. After inspecting the outdoor units, he replaced the capacitor (fortunately, he had the needed part with him), and the house instantly started cooling down. He then agreed to inspect the other unit and do an annual check-up, inspecting both the outdoor units and the equipment in the attic. Such a relief to have our AC back right before the first heat wave of the summer. I wish I could give Local Air 100 stars! They are my favorite people now after saving my house from an air conditioning disaster! So yesterday morning, I walked into the hallway to find a river flowing to the garage. The river started from a leak in my ceiling. It's a great way to find first thing in the morning, let me tell you! After some investigating, we found out it was from the AC unit in the attic. The drain system had gotten clogged up and then overflowed into the attic, which then created the waterfall into my hall. So much fun! I did some research on AC repair companies that were open on the weekends and for ones with good reviews and luckily I found Local Air. They have so many 5 star reviews and now I know why. I called and left a voicemail asking for help. Josh called me back in 15 minutes and said he could be there in about 2 hours. Deal! Josh came out and checked everything out. He got us all fixed up and ready to go in record time. He told us what we needed to do to prevent this from happening again as well. He charged us exactly what was quoted over the phone, which was very fair and reasonable from quotes I got from others. I had questions later on and Josh helped me again over the phone, as well as came by again to check everything over and show me what was all going on. He went above and beyond to help me in my time of need. I'll be honest, I was a bit panicked about all of this and was probably acting a little crazy, but Josh was very helpful and friendly the whole time and explained everything for me until I understood it all.
