Today was my first time eating there and I was very pleasantly surprised at how awesome the food was. I left Spokane almost 20 years ago, before this restaurant was there but it was worth the drive today to enjoy the fab food . I had a Grilled chicken panzanella salad with portobello mushrooms, olives, marinated red peppers and slices of yummy tomatoes with mozzarella on butter lettuce and I think it was an aoli or pesto dressing; so impressed. The waitress was amazing. Kudos to her and her excitement describing our food choice and how good she knew the food was. I'll be back. Great ambiance, great staff. Good flavors at this restaurant. Calimari was good but not enough calimari. Mostly cabbage. Gorgonzola fries were amazing as other reviewers recommended. Burgers were spot on. We tried the gourmet burger and the chipotle bbq burger. Chicken ciabatta could have been much better. I ordered beet salad with salmon for my main for $24 and it was so small that my family asked why I ordered a side salad for my meal. The lobster bisque was salty. We couldn't even finish half of it. The wife and I popped in here for lunch today upon the recommendation of a coworker. We both had the lunch special BLT panini and the Chef's braised pork tacos. The panini was good, but the tacos were damn good. My wife also got the huckleberry cocktail, which while a bit sweet was also delicious. We also got their chocolate mousse with salt, which was simply phenomenal a real standout. The food was good, but the staff was a real highlight. They were friendly, gracious, and attentive. I had high hopes for this place. The food was delicious but the service was not great. It took forever to order and just as long to receive our food. I would give them another shot since a couple came at the same time as us and they were served much faster, so maybe it was our server. The atmosphere was nice as well. read more

Let me be clear her, I must go back for a proper review. This wifey and I order a tenderloin special. The steak was cooked perfectly, but the quality was severely lacking. Took my son and wife to dinner; their dinner was OK (just OK)... my wife's and mine were another story. Wife had the USDA Prime French Dip, cut with the grain of the meat, thus making it tough as shoe leather! In addition, the sandwich contained two (2) very thin pieces of meat, each approximately 1/4 inch in width.. all of this for $12! So between the cutting of the meat and the amount served, it was a disaster. I on the other hand, tried the Clam and Prawn Fettuccini. Let's start by saying I don't like clam shells in my pasta; that said, halfway through, I started getting lots of pieces of broken shell in my mouth... so much, in fact, that I thought I had broken a tooth. When I told the waitress about it, she had nothing to say... no "I'm sorry", nada! We won't be back! Pricey and the food is marginal to say the least. read more

Well I went to this upscale restaurant with friends some time ago......several months in fact and was very impressed by the quality and service provided then, good food, great Specials and service good too. Made me look forward to return, which was just today, August, 2022, so went with party of people hoping for repeat of experience I had prior, but sad to say I ordered the wrong thing, should have been very tasty being so so simple to prepare.....French Dip Sandwich with beef bouillon. Very sad to report that they totally fell flat on their face in serving this poor excuse of a meal that was pretty disgusting to say the least..........that is they put some very dry, day old, overcooked sliced beef on an extremely dry piece of white bread, along some watered down bouillon with absolutely no flavor or taste. This is so inexcusable for a place like this that I have to say they have lost two plus repeat customers. I cannot recall any time in past twenty years have I had such a bad French Dip, Abby's serve a better quality than this and as I said earlier "A DISGUSTING" piece of food not worthy of serving to the public. This place needs to get their you know what together or risk losing more and more people who come and expect a quality meal but receive LOW GRADE, YESTERDAYS garbage. Sorry people, but that is one persons take on this. I think that overall the place is good, but need a few thoughts about upgrading their menu and the the food they serve. read more

Dropped by mid afternoon and sat at the bar. The bartender Jackie was friendly and professional. I asked about the soup of the day and she described a carrot soup with some zing to it that she recommended. I ordered that and I'd been glancing through the cocktail menu and found an intriguing entry. The Sophia Loren which has rhubarb bitters. I went with that. I asked about the bitters and Jackie brought me the bottle to inspect. Soup arrived first and man is that good! Moments later my cocktail arrived. A novel creation that is both tasty and refreshing. This may be my new favorite. I enjoyed both soup and cocktail, had a pleasant chat with the bartender and was on my adventurous way. 5 of 5 in every respect. Well done DRG. I'll be back. read more

Really good food! We came to Spokane on a weekend date and wanted to find a good place to eat. We came when there must have been a shift switch cause our server was busy and running his ass off! Server looked like Aaron Rogers, forget his name. Good service! Atmosphere is nice inside. Menu has a variety of things. We decided to get the Brie appetizer and share a burger. Appetizer was delish. Burger stole the show for sure. It was all we talked about for the rest of the evening. Ordered the beignets and they are pretty dang good. I prefer less powdered sugar on mine but it's my personal preference. The dipping sauce was awesome. My husband is a chef and he was using his finger to dig out the sauce. Downriver Grill offers a variety of wonderful lunch and dinner options. We have enjoyed eating there for many years. Over the weekend, we picked up a fantastic dinner to take home. Go to this fine/casual eating establishment. Give it a try. We crossed town and several other restaurants to eat dinner here. While we had a long wait, despite reservations, the wait staff were super and gave us a nice dessert. The dinner was fantastic. Order the steamer clams! Take home the broth. DRG Burger was very good. I am gluten free and chose to do a lettuce wrap. I appreciate that they use butter lettuce and offer a very fresh and yummy side salad option. I eat dairy free, sugar feee, and gluten free and had no problem finding something yummy to eat here. Enjoyed the patio area and don't let the limited parking scare you. DG actually deserves 2 stars and the only reason I gave it 3 was that the food was good. We had plans after dinner so I had a reservation allowing us enough time (or so I thought) to enjoy our meal. Wrong. It took 45 minutes to receive our order. We only had 15 minutes to eat as we needed to make our next plans. I actually had to ask for the check before the food arrived knowing the horribly slow service was cutting our time short. I had to ask where our waitress was twice. Again, the food was good. I just had zero time to enjoy it. Next time I will order through Uber eats as I saw more Uber orders coming out of the kitchen than dine in orders. read more

I think this place would get five stars if it weren't for a few things. The parking is an absolute nightmare if it is at all busy. Also, I don't understand places like this that turn people away because they don't have a reservation. I watched at least 4 different groups turn around and walk out because they were saving about 5 empty tables for people that would hopefully show up. Makes no sense. Had a great meal Friday morning at 11:00AM. The Downriver Grill offered many choices of locally grown entrees. I had the Dr G's Hamburger. Cooked perfectly medium, sauteed arugala, thin sliced lightly battered onion strings, fresh saluted mushrooms, an aioli mayo and a perfect fried egg on top! DRG has always been one of my favorite restaurants,I have been there many times for lunch and dinner.Took some friends there tonight for a special birthday celebration. Made reservations two days in advance since it was Saturday night. When we arrived there was no reservation. Only a misspelled version of my name at the wrong time was entered. My favorite has always been the chicken Marcella, the portion was obviously smaller and the sauce had no mushrooms . Everything looked like it had been put together in a hurry and food was lukewarm. Not at all the quality I had seen in the past. The salmon looked dry and the curry sauce that was served with it was way too spicy for my friend as she specifically asked the waitress if anything was spicy in the sauce.Thank goodness the desserts are still wonderful. I will think twice before going back and taking guests that have never been there before. read more

Service can be spotty here. Usually perfect.. couple times really, really bad. But the food is ALWAYS good. Last time-got the chicken fried biscuit and Santa Fe Benedict. Incredible. I've had the beignets, the French toast, burger, Brie, hash, and gorg fries. All awesome. Only thing that happens with the food that's a negative - eggs on top of my California Benedict will be room temp, not hot like the rest of the dish.
