This was a fabulous place to grab happy hour with a friend. We went on a Wednesday, which is when they have ALL NIGHT happy hour and their awesome $10 chef special burger! And for $2 more you get a pint with it too! Both of us got this and it was amazing! The beef was cooked perfectly (medium) and it came with house made potato chips, which were great, but could have been a bit crispier. Overall no complaints though. Out bartender/waitress was just lovely! Very friendly and personable. This is definitely a classier/more expensive place to go for a meal, but if you go during happy hour or specifically on Wednesdays, it is very affordable. The place was busy but we never felt rushed. We were seated at the bar. A word of caution: their parking lot is tiny! So more than likely you will need to park on one of the side streets near by. This isn't terrible, except when it shows because those small streets do not get plowed. Just keep that in mind. I will definitely be returning to Downriver Grill! read more

Here is another place near my home I have experienced. Fine dinning at its best with out the hassle of congested down town parking and noise of the city. The service was great. I ordered the Salem that was tender and well cooked. Others in our party order the steak and could not stop talking about it. Deserts were plenty and the pre meal bread crunchy warm and soft just like I like it...I know this sounds silly but something that is important to me is the restrooms and they had really clean rest rooms to wash up after your meal. We decided to walk in the Audubon park right after dinner for the area was so quiet and nice to spend some hand to hand time with a loved one... read more

One star. I ordered the Gorgonzola fries, and they kicked me out of the restaurant. Mind you, I was seductively licking them and rubbing them all over my naked chest. They had to call the fire department to get me out of there. OK, just kidding on most of that. But the Gorgonzola fries really are that good. Wife and I went out for a long overdue date, and ended up here. We ordered the fries for an appetizer, and I had to put a towel under her chair (I'll let you figure out why). Here's a fun fact about the fries: One appetizer is easily enough for 4 people. Decent for 6 people. Four two people, it's damn near a meal in and of itself. Oy. Once we got over the fries, which were 70+% of the reason we went there, we ended up ordering a Caesar salad, to be split between us. They put our salad on separate plates, including fried Parmesan. Amazing. The Caesar salad was average in taste, but the amenities with it were amazing. After being pleasantly miserable, we ordered a Porchetta, mostly on the recommendation of Michael Simon and Mario Batali. (We don't know them personally, unfortunately. We just watch "The Chew.") The Porchetta might have been one of the best parts of the meal. It was on special, and extremely flavorful. The pork belly was cooked medium-well to well-done, yet was extremely moist and tender. The spices and sides to it made the meal flavorful and extremely tasty. Service was mostly good. At a couple moments, we had to wait for water, but that wasn't for longer than a minute or two. My waiter forgot the second beer I ordered, but made up for it by giving me a large "taster" of a beer I did want. A really great way to make peace and earn his tip. All in all, definitely a worthwhile stop. I love this place and will happily come back here. read more

We have been consistently told to try the Downriver Grill, that it was great, a low key bistro but with fabulous food. NOT My wife's exact comment and something that I highly agreed with was: "hmmm that was like Denny's food but with better presentation." It's not that Downriver Grill is horrible, although, pan-frying a quesadilla so it was dripping with oil was a new and unpleasant experience, it is just that they don't do anything very special and what they do - do, reminds us of a coffee shop trying to go upscale. Didn't try the wines, but they had a pretty good list, and include glass and bottle specials in the happy hour prices as well. Seriously tasty and well made happy hour food, they take pride in the options here. Was too full for dessert, but they had at least 6 good options lined up, including churros, butterscotch, and bread pudding. I was in Spokompton this weekend and I had heard that the Downriver Grill is one of the better dinner places in Spokane. There was a bit of a wait but since my friend happened to know one of the hosts we were able to get a table right away. We started with a 2001 Italian Sangiovese blend, which was served to us very warm. This is not surprising-- 9 out of 10 restaurants serve red wine to you at around 70 degrees, which is really annoying. I guess restaurant managers mostly do not understand anything about wine or storage, but it's critical to those people that enjoy wine. We asked her to bring an ice bucket and that brought the temperature of the wine down to around 55 and it was much better. We ordered the calamari, which is also another test of a restaurant's expertise. The calamari breading was slightly soggy and luke warm. The dipping sauce was ok, and overall I give the calamari a 2. The other appetizer we ordered was the sashimi tuna, which was a bit overcooked. The ahi had been seared on the outside a bit too long, as the inside had begun to be cooked. I give the sashimi tuna a 2 as well. I ordered the 8oz. steak along with 3 spicy tiger prawns. The steak was prepared medium rare, like I requested, and was average. My friend also ordered the steak and thought the meat was void of any kind of impressive flavor. 3 stars for the steak. I finished up with tiramisu and did enjoy that quite a bit. The ladyfingers were the right texture, and there was just the right amount of mascarpone cheese, although it lacked the flavor of an unpasteurized mascarpone. Anyway, this dessert was a great way to end my birthday. I give the tiramisu a strong 3. The service was not disappointing, and the server took queues in stride, while correcting things that needed to be corrected. The decor was like an upscale Keg Restaurant with darker wood and good natural light, with an adequate bar. I'd probably go here again when in town. read more

We have been going to Downriver for 5 years and they never disappoint. Until last week! We ordered some food to go, got home, and our food was less than stellar. Having worked in restaurants for 15 years, I normally would have let it go, but I just couldn't--I think it was important for them to know the lackluster of this order! You know what happened? IT WAS FIXED! The owner spoke to me personally and fixed the problem. This was by far the best customer service I have ever had in any sector. No doubt we will be frequenting DRG for more than the occasional dine. Their salads are awesome and I really appreciate that they tailor the menu based on seasonal availability. A-1! read more

I had another great experience here at the grill. My only complaint was that the waitress never did ask to fill our coffee up. She visit our table twice so that was a little disappointing. I had a very pleasant experience here. First timer on a early Sunday evening. I could see the flying goat have lines on and off in just the hour and a half my wife and I where dining. Downriver wasn't empty but it wasn't full either, quite enough, and service was decent enough, our main entree and my dessert (their delicious tiramisu) took a while. That's my one complaint, service/food was a little slower than what I expected to get to us. FOOD: Their Gorgonzola fries live up to their fame on yelps tips. We ordered those and where delightful! Next was what I think an overpriced simple pasta dish. Sundried tomatoes, artichoke, a few spinach leaves, herbs and spices. I guess the fact that my wife and I where able to split this $14 dollar pasta was "worth it" $7 each. But I don't recommend it. The tiramisu was spot on! I've had it many times and made it myself. Back in the day - BY (before Yelp) this was my go-to favorite place to eat. Worth waiting hours for if one did not think ahead to make reservations..there have been ups and downs over the years, changes in the kitchen and menu and slowly DRG was replaced by other favorites. Last night marked our return and aside from a couple of nitpicky things it was really good. DRG is officially back in the rotation! Service was good, they were late being able to seat us for our reservation, but that was out of their control and they still took care of an appetizer for us which was very nice. Our waitress was attentive, but we were a chatty table and she also also gave us our space, which can be tricky to balance. List of wines by the glass was affordable and a step up from the normal chateau ste. Michelle and 14 hands that pollute most places. I had a really nice Tempranillo for $7 that I wish I had written down the name of. Food was good, Only a couple of small things that kept this from being a 5 star review. The shrimp bisque was pretty "meh". No meat in it and it really didn't taste like shrimp. It in no way measured up to other bisques in towm, definitely won't order again. My medium pork chop was really rare and cool in the middle, i ate around it and the apple compote was really too sweet, the spaetzle was really bland..overall it tasted fine but there just wasn't enough savory/salty to go with and made the whole dish just not balanced. Everyone else practically licked their plates, so the osso buco, rib eye special, and honey shrimp were clearly winners. Desserts were classic, the creme brûlée was perfect and the white Russian cheesecake was a winner too. Overall, a fine return to form, we are really glad we went back and it won't be so long next time! read more

Nice location, with fancy artwork adorning the walls. A big complaint was the temperature inside--waaaaay too cold. It was only 60 degrees outside, but they had the AC on. We arrived at brunch time, and the place was fairly busy. The menu was compact, but had something for everyone: granola, fries, salad, egg, wraps, burger, etc. . . I was somewhat disappointed by the beverage menu, though it's typical of all restaurants. They had a lot of fancy mimosas and cocktails (with brunch pricing specials), but the non-alcohol stuff was very basic. Plain coffee only, soda--a big meh. Service was prompt, but nothing special. She had a chance to shine when I asked her to suggest some sort of fancy virgin drink, but she sort of flopped. After no clever recommendations, I requested a sparkling orange juice and she brought a juice, with minimal sparkle, if any--nothing fancy. It was $3.50, which I hate. I could have had that at home, with MORE for a lot cheaper. I mean, for that price at least put on a fruit wedge or something. Sometimes not drinking alcohol sucks. I ordered a southwest scramble, which came quickly and was deliberately unmixed. The sour cream, guac, salsa, and (3 surprise) tortillas were next to the egg-meat-cheese combo. It looked nice, and picky eaters could avoid things they didn't like. I liked everything, and it proved more than I could eat. My mate's large waffle-type gorgonzola fries were in a huge bowl drizzled with cheese. She said they were good and had to also take a go-box. Really, really good food for the price. The staff is nice and very accommodating. The winter salad is a great way to start off your meal. It is a much larger portion than I expected. The salmon entree was quite delicious. The sauce in particular was really good and I had to ask for some bread so I could make sure to eat every little bit of it! The portion was also great for the price. Finally, desserts here are AWESOME SAUCE! They are all HUGE and so good. The chocolate cake and banana bread pudding were so delicious. My friend takes me to the Downriver Grill when I am in Spokane and it is pretty awesome. The prices and the food are amazing. It's a great value. I am comfortable saying that this is my favorite restaurant in Spokane. Mind you, I am not from Spokane and only go there a couple of times a year so my disclaimer is that I definitely haven't been to all the restaurants in Spokane. However, I love to go here when I am in Spokane. I ordered an appetizer, a drink, a steak, a glass of wine, a dessert, and a port. And it tasted amazing and it was like $60. I can't imagine much better than eating an amazingly awesome, drool worthy meal and getting all of that for that price. I highly recommend this place. What a great value! read more

I have enjoyed the Osso Bucco at Downriver the past and it was good. This time however I was extremely disappointed. Basically two bones connected with gristle. Try as I might I couldn't find more than a few morsels of pork. I cannot understand how the kitchen staff could serve up such a dog bone. I should have sent it back but that's not my style... Probably won't return to this restaurant. Another annoyance was the noise level, making it difficult to carry on a conversation without raising our voices and leaning in to hear, basically adding to the cacophony. After reading all of the positive remarks about Downriver Grill a friend & I went there on Saturday night 9.8.21. I started off with a cocktail & my friend had calamari; friend liked it, but I found them rubbery & tasteless. We both ordered their "special" ribeye on top of "warmed Potato" which came with a steak knife that didn't even make a dent in the ribeye. So I asked our waitress who was nice & so accommodating, for another; she said "that" was the sharpest knife they had. So, you ask, why wouldn't "it" get into the ribeye enough to get a bite? You guessed it, the steak was as tough "as shoe leather". After the waitress took back the steaks, we decided to have the chicken marsala. This plate arrived with the toughest chicken possible (I wasn't aware that this was possible) with "sloppy" looking elbow macaroni surrounding it. Well I got through the chicken but not the "slop" & requested a Riesling which tasted like water. I paid over $67.00 for this most horrid dining experience. (could they have possibly watered down the wine?) In spite of this insulting meal, we showed our appreciation to our waitress, generously. New Management? Don' t know. Eating out in Spokane is usually enjoyable & delicious but the Downriver Grill is a disaster. read more

Another of Spokane's awesome eatery's! This place right across the street from The Flying Goat (another good one). They've recently updated the outside and the inside is clean with a modern flare. We started with the Coconut Prawns, they were light and delicious. For our main course we tried the Seared Scallop and the Hand-cut DRG Signature 6oz Steak. Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. The scallops were served with and awesome pea and carrot risotto that was out of this world. The steak was served with wild mushroom port demi glace reduction. A north side favorite, Downriver is a summer time best. Good selection of wine, excellent specials (especially copper river salmon season) and a great atmosphere. Make reservations and don't rely on a bar table being available. The staff is very good, pleasant and seem to get the importance of keeping people happy (and the restaurant clean). Went to Downriver for breakfast after reading good reviews and was disappointed. If you want really different food go try it... I love trying new things, however my husband is more of a home cooking kind of guy. He wanted biscuits and gravy, ham and eggs. The closest thing was the cheddar biscuit and chorizo gravy with cottage bacon. He likes chorizo but hated the gravy because of some flavor and the biscuits were rock hard and dry. The Downriver Grill is an excellent place to have lunch. We like to go for the $10 burger and beer deal. It's an outstanding price on such high quality eats. I can't go without the gorganzola fries, either. They will ask you if you want bacon and the answer should be yes. The menu is always changing and I love that! It might seem like a small detail, but I like the way they serve water and leave a bottle shaped carafe of it at the table. Make sure you go on your birthday and get free dessert. Both years I have gone I got some delicious and crunchy creme brûlée served with fruit. The only gripe I ever had about this place was the shrimp bisque I had once was over the top greasy and tasted bland and off. No biggie. read more

So Gorgonzola fries... yes. it's a no brainer. I also really love their portabello melt. I have gotten a few salads here in the past and thoroughly enjoyed them as well. This is not a regular place for me as it is a bit pricey, but the food has always been good. Today was my first time eating there and I was very pleasantly surprised at how awesome the food was. I left Spokane almost 20 years ago, before this restaurant was there but it was worth the drive today to enjoy the fab food . I had a Grilled chicken panzanella salad with portobello mushrooms, olives, marinated red peppers and slices of yummy tomatoes with mozzarella on butter lettuce and I think it was an aoli or pesto dressing; so impressed. Great ambiance, great staff. Good flavors at this restaurant. Calimari was good but not enough calimari. Mostly cabbage. Gorgonzola fries were amazing as other reviewers recommended. Burgers were spot on. We tried the gourmet burger and the chipotle bbq burger. Chicken ciabatta could have been much better. I ordered beet salad with salmon for my main for $24 and it was so small that my family asked why I ordered a side salad for my meal. The lobster bisque was salty. We couldn't even finish half of it.
