My friends and I have visited yards many times, and the food is usually very good; I especially love the green goddess eggs benedict. The location is also super convenient and the overall atmosphere of the diner is very charming. However, I have conflicting views about the place because of the rushed, unfriendly , and bad service I always seem to get there. It's always the same few servers working, which is fine, but the same lady that takes our order every time we go, couldn't give nice and friendly service to save her life. She's never once properly introduced herself, and always seems very frantic running around. This last time, we weren't even charged for our drinks because she claimed she was too busy to ring them in. 2/3 of them were pretty nasty anyway and heck I'll take a free coffee, but that doesn't seem fair to the business. I also notice that the servers there do everything; host, buss, serve, run food, make coffees, etc. They seem quite busy, and based on the service I receive, I wish they had a few more hands to help out and ensure that guests receive accommodating and friendly service every-time. read more

Tracy is the same server I've had everytime I go here and she is great!! Personable, helpful and not overbearing. The problem is the things I pick aren't as good as they could be and the kids breakfast is the best thing on the menu. Most recently I got the frittata. I was super pumped for this! Cheese and mushrooms and asparagus in a skillet-what's not to love?!? It lacked flavor. I Reid adding salt and pepper-nope. I added more aioli-nope. I was so bummed because it looked so so so good and it wasn't. The blueberry sour cream donuts sauce was very good and yet the donuts didn't have much flavor except cinnamon. Great place for breakfast! It's cute, clean, and the service was great. Food was also really good. Had the eggs Benedict and the maple bacon waffle and both were great. Only complaint is there was some sort of sneaky charge on the bill for an extra couple bucks that didn't make any sense, I think it said ordering fee...I didn't care for that. read more

The fried chicken has a good coat of breading for the fry and the fried rice was very tasty but it had a little too much soy sauce because it was kinda salty. The house made soda is phenomenal it is a must try. They had other flavors but I like huckleberries and I figured the raspberry combination would be nicely paired. The service was excellent and the ambiance feels great like an old school hip diner. I gave it a 4 star because of the slightly salty fried rice but it was good don't get me wrong. I am all for creative expression when it comes to a chef and their recipes. With that said i ordered the biscuits and gravy. The gravy tasted just like canned cream of mushroom and it had the same thick consistency too. It also had big chunks of what looked like bacon alongside the big chunks of not breakfast sausage. The menu is pretty classic breakfast options, with a few unique additions. The staff was friendly and attentive. Something I noticed was that from the outside, it can appear to be closed because the lights are not super bright - but usually they are open!! My husband and I visited this breakfast restaurant and waited over 20 minutes before anyone even greeted us. When a server finally approached, we were told we had to throw away our iced coffees due to a supposed Washington State Health Code violation prohibiting outside beverages. The server left so abruptly that we didn't even have the chance to explain that this is not actually true. We waited another 15 minutes without being helped, so we finally approached a server and the manager ourselves. The server then told us that the manager had instructed staff not to serve us until we disposed of our drinks. This kind of treatment is both unacceptable and disappointing. We calmly informed them that there is no such state law prohibiting outside non-alcoholic beverages, but the manager responded by raising their voice and insisting it was. Disappointing Decline at a Once-Favorite Spot We used to love The Yards Bruncheon. The BLT toad-in-the-hole sandwich and parmesan fries were, in my opinion, the best dish in Spokane--a must-have on every visit. Unfortunately, after today's experience, we won't be returning. We were seated at a six-top, including two high chairs for our toddlers. When my mother-in-law, who was walking by, popped in to say a quick hello, the restaurant was nearly empty. She didn't sit, didn't order, and was there for less than two minutes. Still, the manager hovered awkwardly and prompted our server to inform us that we couldn't have "seven" at the table. We were asked to move--mid-meal--to another table and carry everything ourselves. It was unnecessary and uncomfortable. That should've been our cue to leave. Instead, we stayed--and were further disappointed. Although it was over 80 degrees outside and we had our personal water bottles with us, we were met with snide comments about the restaurant's "no outside food or drink" policy. Later, the manager came by again and told us we had to physically remove our water bottles from the restaurant, citing "health code" violations. I've looked up the relevant regulations--this is simply false. Ironically, the restaurant's bathroom lacks signage indicating that staff must wash their hands--an actual health code violation. Even more concerning: as we exited through the side door near the parking lot, we found it deadbolted shut. Not only had we placed our water bottles outside this door minutes earlier, but there's a clearly posted sign saying it must remain unlocked--this is a fire code violation. As for the food: what used to be a standout meal has lost its quality. The sandwich was a shadow of its former self--overcooked egg, cheap bacon, and missing its once-bold flavors. The fries were dry and lacked garlic or cheese. The saddest part of all was watching our waiter, who was kind and clearly doing his best, get repeatedly micromanaged into delivering awkward or unnecessary messages. He seemed genuinely embarrassed at several points. We brunch out often, and this was our fourth and final attempt this year to give The Yards another chance. It's unfortunate to see such a once-great local favorite deteriorate under uncomfortable and misguided management. I sincerely hope the Eat Good Food Group takes notice and brings in leadership that can restore what made this place special. read more

I got the Eggs Benedict (with sausage instead of Canadian bacon) and yummmm they did it right! The sauce was very flavorful and the eggs were cooked to perfection. It was cold so we bought $30 of coffee at a nearby shop and then got called back for our table, only to be told that we would have to finish our outside drinks prior to being sat at a table or even given a menu. We sat in the waiting area for an additional 20 minutes, not wanting to chug or throw out the drinks we had bought just moments before. The food afterwards was overall pretty great and we appreciated the service, and I have no complaints here. Everything was yummy but my main complaint is how insanely long it took to get our avocado toast in comparison to when the deviled eggs came but also seeing huge groups get much more complex orders that came in after us, before us. Overall still yum, and very cool menu. Could definitely improve on customer service around wait times being acknowledged since our meal was pretty simple. Recommend getting there early as they got pretty busy by the time we left. Also if you like cold brew - do not order it from here. Was more like black iced tea and very watered down. Second time visiting and the food is still great. This place gets busy fast so I would recommend getting there when it opens. You really can't go wrong with the menu. Everything is fresh and the menu does change based on availability in order to make it all fresh and in season. Their toasted banana bread is a must, a super good appetizer to share. The staff is friendly and happy to answer any questions you may have. We got the corned beef hash and the AM fried rice. While both sides came with eggs, they were both overcooked. Not sure if that's because we got takeout or not. Both entrees were also extremely salty. There was way too much soy sauce in the AM fried rice! This was a happening spot. We arrived about 9:30am on a Monday, not realizing it was a holiday. The staff were friendly, attentive, and busy taking care of the restaurant. We were added to a wait list and were seated in about 30 minutes. This was all reasonable and no complaints. This is definitely a family friendly restaurant and there were a ton of kids running around. We didn't love that, but you can't fault the restaurant for that. We were seated in the back between the bathroom and a back door. There are no shades on the windows so it is bright and hot. I took a star off for this. The food was average. My sandwich was very messy and the compostable(?) napkins provided just smeared it around. Tots weren't as crispy as you'd hope. Mom didn't love her Bloody Mary, it had a seasoning in the mix that was unfamiliar. Her omelette was okay. Another star off for this. Overall this is a decent place. You'll be fed and taken care of, and it's a great place for families. We just didn't love it. read more
