The food was great only problem was I cant see how anyone can have a relaxing breakfast with hard-core heavy metal music playing. It really was annoying. Don't know if I'll be going back. This might be the best breakfast I've ever had. Biscuits and gravy are AMAZING! Chicken fried steak was fabulous as well. Their jam on sourdough toast is phenomenal and was the perfect end to the meal. Can was a great server and took time to provide great recommendations even though they were super busy. We all know to expect the dreaded Saturday brunch wait times. No quality restaurant is immune to the demands of the hungry hoards, myself included. I called ahead this optimistic Saturday morning to inquire regarding wait times. "25 minutes," I was told. Feverishly famished, I drove to the Cottage Cafe and placed my name on the list. "25 minutes," again, I was told. The sun was shining and the roar of Appleway Blvd could be echoed by the grumbling of my stomach. The exiting patrons hoisted their leftover takeout containers in the air for us to envy, my stomach rotted with jealousy. 25 minutes came and went. I entered the Cottage Cafe, pushing past the mob of malnourished patrons awaiting their turn to be seated, searching for a server to ask for an updated wait time. "15 minutes," I was told. Betrayal. My stomach snarled, the smell of flatcakes and syrup hung heavy in the air of the restaurant. The seated patrons looked at me piously, leisurely slicing ham and oozing maple syrup onto their grotesque plates of gluttony. My descent into envy was brief, sudden, and I rushed back onto the balcony to wait my promised fifteen minutes. I could not bear to wait inside while the smell of heavenly breakfast taunted me. At fifteen minutes, again I entered. A new server saw my piercing gaze, and they hesitantly retreated behind the bar. I approached. Again, I asked "what is the wait time?" "15 minutes," I was told. My kidneys were failing, my brain turned foggy. Could it be? Had I been lied to? Was I a famished fool, a peckish pinhead? Again I left the restaurant to cower on the patio by appleway, the roar of passing traffic mocking me. This ravenous ridiculousness had consumed my morning, my party was left waiting for an hour. Preparing myself to leave, my pride badly bruised and my faith in the Cottage Cafe shattered, a server opened the door to the restaurant and shakily called my name. Did my ears deceive me? Had my hunger, my zealous gluttony, at last consumed me? I asked her to repeat the name. Again, she said it. It was real. This was my moment. We were seated hastily, each server having recognized my face from the numerous times I had asked for an accurate wait time. Coffee was poured promptly, orders taken hastily. The fear in their eyes was palpable, they knew they had lied to me. But why? Why not just tell me the wait time was an hour? I fear management must be telling the serving staff to give customers feeble hope. This is the reason I rated the Cottage Cafe 3 stars. I hope the owners can inform the servers that it is okay to be honest, I would prefer not to get my hopes up just to be made a fool waiting on the patio for an hour by traffic. My stomach leapt from my chest upon sight of the plate bestowed in front me. The picturesque sandwich glistened in the light from butter and salt, bacon cooled on the wedges of avocado, and potato rounds glowed with godly glory. At last, I feasted. Passed thru on a roadtrip and the waffle had to be the best waffle I ever had in my life! Fluffy, creamy, a little crispy on the outside, just so well made I'm still dreaming about them!! The butter quantity and quality was perfect. And that strawberry jam they got at every table made my waffle taste like a funnel cake! We love coming here. This time I tried the bacon omlette and let me tell you, it was FULL of bacon. From start to finish, this omlette was impressive. The flavors were great and I also love adding the house made strawberry sauce to my sourdough toast. My husband got the waffle and said it was delicious. It had a crisp texture and was fluffy inside. The side egg and sausage helped balance everything out and finished off the meal. As for the resturant, the wait is always a little long as it is a small place. But it's so worth it. Rolled into the Cottage Cafe for breakfast and left needing a nap and possibly a wheelbarrow. Ordered the King's Omelet--a six-egger. Yeah, six eggs. That's basically a dozen if you squint hard enough. I told them to hold the green peppers (because green peppers are evil) and swap in mushrooms instead. Most places would charge you a "mushroom handling fee," but not here. Nope. Free swap. Legend status unlocked. Then came the tough question: hash browns or Cottage fries? I asked which one was better, and the waitress hits me with, "You can do half and half." Wait--what? Both? No upcharge? Am I being pranked by the Breakfast Fairy? Sold. The homemade strawberry jam (or "Jane," as my fat fingers texted it) was next-level on my sourdough toast. The omelet itself was enormous--like, should-come-with-a-safety-briefing enormous--and ridiculously good. I also got a side of sausage gravy--finally something they actually charged for--and holy smokes, that gravy turned into the MVP of the meal. Dumped it on my hash browns, fries, even the omelet. Zero regrets. Ten out of ten arteries agree. We sat at the counter, vibed to some old-school rap (shout-out to whoever put that playlist on), and watched the cooks crank out food like breakfast superheroes. The place was busy, spotless, and running smoother than a Waffle House on Red Bull. Bottom line: killer food, great people, clean spot, zero attitude. We were looking for a good breakfast spot and were recommended to go to Cottage Cafe. We went around 9am on a Sunday morning. Every seat was full and waiting to be taken over by someone else. They do not take reservations but you add your name and party size to list with someone at the front. They told us it would be about a 40 minute wait (ended up being about 35). The tricky thing is we had a part of nine. With a packed dining room, it was hard to accommodate us. They did a really great job of getting us two booths close to each though. We had the teens at one table and the adults right behind them. Our server was very attentive and kind to us. Even though it was one large party, she did a good job paying equal attention between the two tables. My husband and I split the Hearty Breakfast combo ($17.95 + $1.75 split fee). Even in a split portion there was so much food!! We got half a waffle, an egg, a bacon, a sausage, hash browns and toast each. My brother got the Smaller Appetite breakfast and it was still sizable. Even the kids meals had a generous portions. All the food was really very delicious. The handmade whipped cream on the waffles and the real fresh strawberries were a welcomed surprise, the bacon was nice, long strips and the sausage was a link so it was had some girth to it. To go boxes were required, because we were so stuffed. It was a major step up from the places we normally go. Granted the seating is easier at those other places, but the taste, quality and portions are generally lacking. Can't wait to come again and try some other options. read more

The line was at least half an hour to dine in, which tells you just how much people love this diner. The breaded surface was a little more burnt than I prefer, but the meat quality was comparable to any Southern Cracker Barrel. The country gravy was so good, I saved half for the next day's breakfast. Honestly the best sausage gravy in town by a landslide! We were dipping their homemade potatoe chips in it to til my plate was clean. I started off with the Vienna coffee which tasted just like horchata. There wasn't a lot of coffee flavor, but you could really taste the brown sugar. It was really sweet, but very delicious. The chicken fried steak came highly recommended and they make their cube steak in house. So that's what I went with for breakfast. My steak did have a few pieces of gristle, but overall the coating was a great crunchy texture. The gravy was a little sweet for me and I wish the eggs were seasoned. Cottage potatoes are nice and crunchy but a little salty. The place was hustling and bustling the whole time and you can tell it's a favorite in the community, but I did think there were a few things that could have been improved on.
