5 stars - A hidden gem in downtown Spokane! Located on the 2nd floor of the historic Paulsen Center, The Daily Grind is not easy to find from the street level--you have to navigate a bit like you're on a little urban adventure. But once you find it, you're rewarded with a cozy, welcoming café and some seriously good food. The owners, a friendly couple, greeted me warmly and helped guide me through my first visit, which I really appreciated. I ordered a tuna melt sandwich and a flavored latte, then brought them back to my hotel. Both were absolutely delicious--comforting, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The shop has a clean and tidy layout with a variety of snacks, baked goods, and drinks in view. It's a perfect little spot to grab a quick bite or take something to go. I'm not from here so did a yelp search to find a place to eat. And their special sandwich of the day was full and packed with meat and veggies that I was not lacking anything at all. On top of that the Potatoe salad is "move to the city" worthy. Cookie was not too sweet and picked up and carnal crunch cookie. Owner was kind nice and attentive. Update: Review Episode 2 ~ Went back the next day for the full experience and can confirm that these are among the top sandwiches we've ever had! We are now roadtrip obsessed with these sandwiches. I had text three Yelp options and he decided upon this location located on the second floor. He was concerned about the wait might be long because there were a few people ahead of him but timing of service went quickly. I was actually craving a breakfast croissant sandwich but the moment he mentioned Cuban sandwich on the menu it was the standout choice over the phone. I had to quickly dash downstairs seven floors from the hotel to grab the sandwich which was still toasty warm as he drove off. I could tell instantly by temperature, aroma and all fixings that this was going to be foodie perfection: bacon, quality ham, mustard, pickles and bread. Just one half was plenty filling enough to satiate my morning appetite. Almost wished the beau had time to sneak a bite in of this sandwich to share. Of course, I saved the other half for him. Next time, I'd be open to tasting the pesto sandwich food option available on the menu. What a great local gem find for a great sandwich or wrap. Met the owners Cody and Danielle Miller on our way through town. This is not "on the beaten path" for travelers who aren't local (second floor of the Paulsen office building). There is a pay parking lot right around the corner and it's walking distance from the Davenport Grand hotel. The food and service were fantastic. You can feel the passion and pride of local ownership in their work. They catered to my wife's gluten free and dairy free needs not only without an upcharge but with a smile and grace. It was so good that we visited two days in a row and there are lots of competing options in town. I highly recommend supporting local. A quick little coffee shop that's open. The breakfast wrap I got was perfect. Coffee was way better then the conglomerate from Seattle. The service was very friendly. I enjoyed a breakfast burrito while I was here and had them put some house made salsa in it. It was delicious. The cookies they make here are fresh and need to be in your life. Seriously. Like now. The ones today were a chocolate chip, coconut, macadamia nut cookie. Mmmm. This place is on the second floor of an old building, which is pretty cool. Consistently amazing food - fresh, flavorful, filling . . . fantastic. I have tried very little on their regular menu because their daily specials are so good I usually wind up ordering them. Also, the baked good they carry are delicious. It take a great amount of will power to not buy a cinnamon roll (with a thick smear of cream cheese frosting!) every morning as I head to work across the street. I make it a point to eat lunch here whenever I'm in Spokane. The staff is as friendly as they get, and their sandwiches are amazing. The Hawaiian is my go-to sandwich, and never disappoints. Only been in a couple of times and both were very pleasant experiences. The folks that work here are very kind and considerate, almost to a fault as they want to engage you in conversation while preparing your coffee, pastry, sandwich, etc. All of the times I have been in there was nobody else in the shop which may have been a big factor in why I was engaged so highly in conversation. I have also noticed that workers in the building will commonly drop off their credit/debit cards and come back for their coffee in a few minutes. This is my favorite place to go! Everything is always made perfectly, super delicious. I don't have a favorite item - they're all amazing. Coffee is really, really good - and they have oat milk, too! The coffee was okay, but the service was absolutely the worst I have ever experienced!! I was visiting the area and stopped in for a morning cup of coffee. I have never been treated so badly in any business that I have ever walked into. When I literally could no longer stomach the bad attitude of the barista, I requested to speak with the owner. I was dumbfounded and completely floored, when this rude woman with a dismissive "I'm better than you" attitude me and told me she was the owner!!! What? I actually called the place later on that night because I didn't believe her. I was astonished when the person that answered the phone confirmed that the owner was the only one working that morning and gave me a physical description. I would NEVER ever give a red cent to a business owner that doesn't appreciate my business and that has that sort of nasty attitude! Steer very clear of this place for a happy morning cup of joe!!
