Good food, decent service, very high price. Douzo has always been on the pricy side, but I guess inflation brought it to be almost unaffordable.. The food was good, but the fish didn't feel exceptional, I must say.

I ordered a house salad the salad was very fresh and the ginger dressing here is amazing. With the salad I ordered the Douzo specialty roll. The sushi here is very flavorful fresh and tasty. Alba was my waitress and she was very friendly and helpful with any and everything I needed. This is a casual Japanese ambiance and I will be back again. This is a sushi place in Boston I highly recommended.

I've loved this place for years and I still think it has some of the best sushi in the area. It's consistently fresh, delicious, and reliable every single time. Today, for the first time, I ordered dessert, the Coppa Mascarpone, and it was so incredible I felt compelled to finally write a review. Honestly, it might be the best dessert I've had in Boston. Some of my favorite dishes are the edamame with garlic sauce (I would put that sauce on anything, it's that good), all of the sushi rolls, and I LOVE the dobin mushi soup, which is always comforting and flavorful. This place never disappoints. Highly recommend!

Even as a non-fish eater, I still enjoyed my dinner at Douzo! I started with a glass of wine at the bar while I waited for my friend. The Grüner Veltliner was delicious. The bar was small so it felt a little crowded, even at 5pm on a Wednesday night. When my friend arrived we were seated at a small table. Very comfortable. The menu is huge and had a decent number of vegetarian options. I went with the miso soup and the sweet potato tempura maki roll. Both were very tasty! Service was friendly and very attentive. No complaints and I will be back!

6/13/26: I visited Douzo on Saturday afternoon after not going for a while. My favorite lunch Japanese spot in Boston is Oishii because of their lunch menu. However, I must say Douzo's renovation and lunch menu pricing was very nice. The restaurant was not busy and the servers were very attentive. The food quality is excellent and the menu has a mix of modern and traditional dishes. I recommend checking Douzo out as it's one of the top and consistent Japanese spots in Boston

I had seen that this place holds the title for the best sushi in Back Bay, and I 100% agree. I am very picky about sushi as I have had amazing sushi all over the world, but this was exceptional. Everything tasted so incredible and fresh, and also very unique, which is important - it was all original and memorable. I especially enjoyed the Sweet Miso Yellowtail roll and the Torched Salmon, but everything was delicious. The presentation of the food was also perfect. As for the ambience, the place has a very elegant vibe, and the decor is beautiful. It feels very elegant and really creates an intimate yet relaxing dining experience. The service was exceptional, and our server was so friendly. I loved this place, and I would definitely come back. I would recommend it for an upscale, memorable, and delicious dinner.

Douzo Modern Japanese Restaurant Boston Back Bay Rating 5 out of 5 Beautiful ambience with high ceilings and a modern upscale vibe The space was busy but didn't feel crowded Service was excellent Our server was attentive friendly and knew the menu well We came for lunch and ordered the Chirashi lunch set which was outstanding The fish was very fresh Salmon tuna and white fish were all high quality and served over perfectly seasoned sushi rice Also tried the seafood seaweed salad which was delicious Light flavorful and refreshing The yakitori was good ordered by my daughter and well cooked I had the zaru soba which was just okay Not bad but nothing special The California roll was decent though a bit too heavy on the avocado Would have preferred mango for a fresher balance Douzo is consistently rated one of Bostons best Japanese restaurants and I can see why Will definitely return on my next trip

Best sushi in Boston!! So many good options and the staff have always been friendly. I came here for my college graduation, and they went above and beyond to make the night special with a private table area and even a complimentary dessert. This will always be one of my favorite restaurants in Boston!

Yes, it's beautiful when you walk into the restaurant. Yes, the service is great. And yes, the food is so delicious. I really enjoyed the XO toro, Hokkaido uni sashimi, eggplant skewer, and unagi sashimi. Love to share dishes/bites.

It's a very tasty restaurant overall. Great dinner date spot. The fish were very fresh although I think some of the items were a bit over priced. The scallop skewers had some sand but overall, the meal was very enjoyable. If you are looking for excellent sushi, this place will give you plenty of options from traditional rolls to specialty rolls unique to Douzo.

Douzo Sushi is a delicious, though pricey, sushi spot near Copley Place in Boston. Service was quick and relatively attentive and they did a good job of explaining some of the nuances in the dishes (for example the richness of the King Salmon vs the 'normal' salmon). We ordered a variety of rolls and nigiri which they brought out in a beautiful boat. The uni was tasty, though not incredible, and I'm unsure whether the extra $$$ for the king salmon was worth it. Drinks were tasty, though strong, so you get some good value for your money there. Restaurant was relatively busy which was a nice sign although can be slightly confusing on entering as there are two entrances (one via the Main Street and another through a building lobby).

Tonight I dined at Douzo. I love sushi, but more than that I love gooood sushi. This is king salmon and if you don't order that here it's a waste of your time, cause it is perfect. I'm in Boston for business and this place is close to my hotel. It's tastefully decorated and the staff are attentive to a fault. Eat here.

    Ask the Community - Douzo

    Is this place kid-friendly?

I would say no, unless they are well-behaved. It's more upscale. Think businesses lunches during the day and date nights for dinner.

Is it easy to find parking around the restaurant?

Usually! There's street parking available and if that's full there are two parking garages. One is across the street from the restaurant and the other is the Clarendon Street Garage near Back Bay Station (on the same block).

Is the XO Toro totally raw?

    I don't know. I didn't have that dish.

Definitely appreciated…read morethe wide variety of the menu as well as the kindness of the staff, especially the hostess! I'm not sure how many there are, but she was Asian with long black hair. Unfortunately, I was having a pretty bad day before heading over, so my attitude was not what it should have been. To my surprise, the hostess didn't retaliate or display any bad attitude toward me, which in turn motivated me to be kinder :) It definitely costs nothing to be kind, and I was definitely grateful that she provided such impeccable service! Great casual spot; prices are fairly reasonable. I'd definitely recommend!

That sealed the deal for Sakabayashi. I have to admit, though: we both got a little sticker shock when we opened the menu. The menu was extensive and everything sounded good, but it took us a while to figure out what we actually wanted to spend. At one point I told my friend, "If you want to leave, it's okay. I won't mind. We can just go." He said, "I'm fine if you're fine." I said, "I'm fine if you're fine." And then we basically just stared at each other and continued struggling with the menu. Eventually, we accepted that dinner was going to be more than $30 and shared the chicken karaage ($10), then each ordered the chef's pick nigiri ($30). The karaage was solid: crispy, yummy, nicely presented, and good with the mayo dipping sauce. But the nigiri made my eyes POP. MAN OH MAN was it FRESH. It was so good. That was basically all I could think about while eating it. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my life, although I still have the palate of a college student...and sometimes the wallet, too. I've definitely had sushi where I've thought, "This tastes like nothing," or "Why isn't the rice seasoned?" or, worse, "This doesn't taste right...I don't think this is very fresh." This was the opposite. The fish actually had flavor. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, and the rice and fish worked together the way good nigiri should. I wish I had slowed down and appreciated each piece more instead of inhaling it. I will absolutely be coming back. Now I know where to go when I'm craving genuinely good-quality sushi and am willing to spend a little more for it. The restaurant itself is classy, bright, neat, and polished without feeling stuffy. It would be a great place to catch up with a friend or for a date night. Although for a date, maybe don't feel bad about splitting the bill. It's the modern era anyway.

There are meals you remember because they taste good, and then there are experiences that change…read morethe way you think about food. Three 1 One Omakase was one of those experiences. It introduced me to new textures, flavors, aromas, and, most importantly, a deeper appreciation for the culture behind the food. From the moment we arrived, Chef Wei, his wife Carrie, and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. The atmosphere felt intimate, as though we had been invited into someone's home rather than a restaurant. Every detail felt intentional, from the minimalist design and calming ambiance to the subtle aromas throughout the space. Learning that Three 1 One was originally a one-bedroom apartment made the experience even more meaningful. The evening reminded me of a trip to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, where local islanders welcomed my fiancé and eight friends into their home to share a meal prepared from that day's catch. Coincidentally, there were ten guests gathered around the counter at Three 1 One, just as there had been ten of us in Vietnam. In both places, strangers came together over exceptional food and genuine hospitality. That feeling stayed with me throughout the evening. My fiancé and I celebrated our 11th anniversary here as we began exploring Michelin-starred restaurants together. After traveling throughout North and South Vietnam, where his family is from, we returned with a renewed appreciation for food and the stories it tells. We were excited to discover such a thoughtful Michelin-starred restaurant so close to home. The 19-course omakase felt like a journey. The opening truffle sea bream with mizuna and sudachi sauce awakened the palate with bright citrus and earthy richness. The Kegani Hokkaido hairy crab with dashi jelly and tomato dashi mousse became my fiancé's favorite. Once mixed together, it was creamy, savory, delicate, and refreshing. His reaction said it all: "Wow." The tako (octopus) with house-made sweet soy sauce highlighted the natural flavor of the seafood beautifully, while the Tokobushi somen with abalone, wheat noodles, yam, okra, and cold dashi became one of my favorite courses. It was refined yet bold, layered with umami, and unexpectedly reminded me of the haenyeo women of Jeju Island, whose tradition of free-diving for seafood gave me an even greater appreciation for the ingredients. Another standout was the Amadai Uroko Yaki (crispy-scale tilefish). The contrast between the crisp scales and tender fish created a texture I'd never experienced before. Along with the abalone course, it was one of the highlights of the evening. The Aji horse mackerel with ginger, chives, sesame, and nori provided a refreshing transition before the sushi. The sushi alone deserves its own review. Every piece reflected remarkable craftsmanship and precision. Watching Chef Wei prepare each bite was part of the experience itself. The rice was beautifully seasoned, and every ingredient felt balanced. My favorite piece was the uni (sea urchin). It was incredibly smooth, rich, and almost buttery. My second favorite was the Hokkaido hotate (scallop), with its delicate smokiness, sweetness, and juicy texture that left me wanting another bite immediately. We also tried selections from the additional menu, along with a pear-toned sake that paired beautifully with the meal. More than anything, what stayed with me wasn't just the food, but the feeling of the evening. It was an experience built around craftsmanship, hospitality, culture, and sharing a meal with others. Thank you to Chef Wei, Carrie, and the entire team for making our 11th anniversary unforgettable and for giving us such a memorable first Michelin-star dining experience. We look forward to returning.
