Whether you're here for high-end sushi, creative small plates, or comforting kitchen dishes, everything is executed at a very high level. We ordered a massive spread, and almost every single dish was a hit. The Raw Bar & Sushi: * Oysters: These were 10/10. Incredibly fresh, perfectly halved, and meticulously cleaned--not a single piece of shell in sight. We loved them so much we had to go for a second round. * 8pc Omakase & 6pc Aburi Set: Both sets were fantastic. The Aburi (torched) set is a must-try for that smoky melt-in-your-mouth texture. * Uni Nigiri: Even my wife, who usually avoids raw fish, was won over by how creamy and fresh the Uni was. * Tuna Tataki: This was the only "just okay" dish for me. It had good flavor, but I think it would have been elevated with some shredded daikon and a colder temperature. We didn't have a reservation for a Friday evening, but they quickly were able to get us seats at the bar. The restaurant was busy, but the decor like the Khoi pond and being able to see the chefs make the sushi fresh enhanced the experience. First time in the city and our friends highly recommended Nagomi Izakaya. It was a nice evening so we decided to walk the 20 minutes from our hotel in Back Bay to Nagomi Izakaya. Easy walk and we built up our appetite for the meal to come. First thing we noticed was the large menu offering a great variety of Japanese cuisine. My wife went with the Bluefin Tuna and Toro Don which was loaded with the freshest tuna served with sliced sashimi and minced toro over a bed of perfectly cooked rice. I had also entered intending to order a bowl but after looking at the menu I had to go with the Premium Chef's Omakase which included gyoza dumplings, edamame, fresh oysters, nigiri sushi, sushi roll, and the freshest sashimi. I was a bit confused when I tried to order sake when our server said my Premium Omakase included the house sake as part of the meal..that was a nice bonus! We finished off our meal with a matcha crepe cake/green tea ice cream making it the perfect ending. We went with the Signature Chef Omakase that came with sake, and it hit the spot--super satisfying without feeling too heavy, and the price was pretty reasonable. It kicked off with some edamame, miso soup, and gyoza, which were all tasty. With the sushi/sashimi set, we started with the oysters, and the vinegary sauce on top was a bit too strong and kind of overpowered them. The rest of the meal was great though--the fish was super fresh, and the king salmon was hands-down my favorite. So buttery and delicious. Overall great quality for the price. The hand rolls were okay but I didn't love either flavor profiles. The chicken was good but not the best I've had. They have a lot of creative sake-based martinis which are delicious. Also I love yuzu sake. Came here on a Saturday for a later dinner and the spot wasn't too busy surprisingly; the space is super thin and it was a little loud due to how noisy other tables were being, but it was fine otherwise. Staff were patient to wait for my friend who was running late so that was nice; they ended up moving me to a larger table while I was just seated and that was pleasant. The menu had a good mix of dishes; I will say that the prices were a bit steep for pretty much everything, especially the appetizers. Nonetheless, things were tasty and I enjoyed everything, although the prices didn't match the quality or quantity. Takoyaki was nice, albeit a bit small, while the croquettes were nice overall. The sushi was decent quality and the bowls were fine as well, good amount of fish and the cuts were a good size. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back for a pleasant meal with decent service, albeit a bit pricy. A hidden gem in the big city of Boston! Calm and intimate sushi place right off Kenmore Square. It was such a delight coming here!! The servers are sweet and attentive and everyone is super friendly here. Very beautiful presentation of some of the most tasteful cuts of sushi I've had. The wagyu beef scallop just melts in your mouth, with the small hint of the juicy uni (sea urchin) on top to make it perfect. The scallop on the Ocean maki was delicious, and their nigiri was eaten so fast I barely got a photo! Definitely a higher-end price menu, so it's definitely a special event type place for me, but your tastebuds will thank you for this place! This sushi spot is in the heart of Boston right on beacon as you are headed down to the Fenway / BU area. Been here for multiple occasions. Good for date night too :) We started off with agedashi tofu, karage chicken and uni oysters and takoyaki. Then we ordered o-toro sashimi (my go to) Ramen, konbachi chili (fire) has jalepenos on top of hamachi yummmm, torched toro maki (yesss) charashi maki and nagomi don subtitles with squid for salmon. For desert we had green tea ice cream and we actually got a second from our server because she overheard it was someone's birthday! Overall always good dining here, haven't tried their omakase but we know what we like there. We were catching a concert at MGM on a very busy Friday and were lucky to find Nagomi Izakaya. We easily got a seat at 6pm and were placed at a beautiful table for two in a serene setting. My partner is operations manager at Brooklyn Kura sake brewery, so when my dad spotted their "Blue Door" on the menu among some other fine selections (BK's partner brewery Hakkaisan, Dasai), I was very pleased. We of course shared a bottle. My dad is an uni freak and fortunately Nagomi has a whole uni rice bowl on the menu. It did not disappoint. He is still talking about it. He got a whole box of fresh Japanese uni atop a bed of perfectly seasoned rice. In New York that would have run him at least $100 and here it was less than half that. I got the unavoidable Nagomi special don which was another rice bowl that had all the best things about planet earth atop. Truffle, caviar, ikura, toro, uni, fresh sashimi... I was in heaven. And again, with something that in NYC I wouldn't have batted an eye if I'd been charged $100 for it (I live there now, originally from NH, and I always knew Boston sushi was better...). I was full off my glorified chirashi bowl, but my dad was like a kid in a candy shop after the uni bowl and kept ordering his particular favorites that he can't get in NH - hamachi hand roll, futo maki, ika sushi ... and of course ice cream. He'd never had mochi before, so we ordered two mochi ice cream plates which came with three flavors. He's a convert now. And he's already trying to bring my mom back to this splendid find of a restaurant, tucked away just enough, but not too far at all from the other Fenway hullabaloo. We've ordered takeout from here a good deal but only recently went in person. Right when you enter, there is a nice Japanese garden that creates a very homey and comfortable feeling. I do, however, recommend making reservations since when we arrived we were seated at the bar due to the tables already being reserved. I am not sure, but I think the menu we were given was different as well because of this. Still, we ordered the Spicy Combo and the Takoyaki. We had a big lunch so this was enough food, but we normally try to get the three roll spicy entree instead that comes with a spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail maki. The Spicy Combo was a pretty good alternative though! Takoyaki - this appetizer is one of our favorites at Nagomi. The takoyaki are really freshly made, and the exterior remains crispy while the interior is nice and gooey. The octopus inside is also much larger than other places we've had this dish, and the sauces are generous. Spicy Combo - this came with a miso soup and seaweed salad which helped fill us up. The actual sushi was 3 spicy salmon nigiri (with black fish eggs on top), 3 spicy tuna nigiri (also with the fish eggs on top), 4 pieces of spicy salmon maki, and 4 pieces of spicy tuna maki. The actual quality of the fish at Nagomi is really good, and it tasted extremely fresh. We'd definitely order this again. All in all, it is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is really nice and the fish quality tastes very fresh. We saw a few people order rice bowls/dons and maybe chirashi, and those looked extremely vibrant and colorful. I'll definitely try one next time I go! read more

Nagomi Izakaya is a cute sushi restaurant by Kenmore station/BU area serving high quality specialty sushi. I had been here a year or two ago and had a wonderful experience but haven't returned since it is a bit pricey. I went around late dinner time the other day and was one of the few tables there which was surprising. They have $12 sake cocktails which is a pretty good price even though it isn't made with liquor. The yuzu marg, lychee martini, and yuzu rose martini were perfect cocktails (although not super strong). They have the best karaage so we got an order of that, the crispy rice, the mango tuna roll, and a shrimp tempura roll. The crispy rice was good but I have had better. The mango roll was the best roll and it tasted so fresh! I would say their speciality maki are probably the best and best value for nagomi since some of the pricier items like the crispy rice aren't totally worth it. If you come get the karaage and some of their speciality maki! The prices are a bit on the steep side especially given the location (kind of hole in the wall area by Kenmore) but the quality is excellent and it's a nice and clean atmosphere inside. read more

Food: If you decide to try out their premium omakase chef tasting here ($88), you will probably still feel hungry afterwards and this is coming from someone who is known to not be able to finish up their meals lol. The chef tasting here consisted of a small serving of sake, miso soup, and a sushi boat that included 5 pieces of nigiri (while not bad, it was all torched & one dimensional), 1 single oyster, 4 tiny pieces of sashimi (funky low quality uni, tasteless toro, salmon, yellowtail), and around 3 tiny pieces of torched toro maki.
