18 course omakase - missing the handroll course
    Tessa L.

Went here for a birthday celebration and thoroughly enjoyed it! Would 100% recommend. My favorite was the Otoro with Caviar :) Service during the meal was great. Our attendant was on top of everything. I don't think there was a moment where my glass was empty and eating place was not clean. The space itself is nice. Simple interior to fit with the traditional omakase style. The focus is really the high quality fish with not much of the creative, new styles of courses you might see at other omakases. I thought the price is really great value. Base rate of $185 for the 18 course meal and then extra for service and drinks is a great rate especially in comparison to other omakases in Boston.

If you're looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, this is the perfect spot! Wa Shin serves an 18 course omakase which focuses especially on the quality of the fish without too many frills. Each piece of fish was so fresh and delicious. We especially loved the appetizer course with the crab and the handroll course. Other standouts included the scallop (hotate) and the uni. Each seat faces the sushi chefs so you can watch as they prepare every course. The restaurant is relatively small and reservations are hard to snag but definitely worth it.

Came to Wa Shin with a group of four a couple weeks ago. We really enjoyed the experience. Simply put, the quality of each course was incredible- fresh, not overdone, with attention to every detail. The price also matched the quality without breaking the bank. Chef Sky was extremely kind and informative, he wanted to interact with us. The service was timely and attentive. We look forward to returning and hopefully seeing some variety in the menu in different seasons. Check out the collage attached - Definitely top 3 Omakase in Boston.

Basically reiterating what everyone has already said about Wa Shin but it was truly one of the most upscale, unique, meticulous dinners I've ever been to. It goes without saying that the service was spectacular, as was the food. It was also very fun and intimate to sit at the chef's counter with only a handful of other people, you really get to know the chefs and the other diners. It is an absolute must if you are into sushi and in the Boston area.

I had done some research on omakase in Boston and the reviews of Wa Shin make it impossible not to try it. We wanted to have a special celebration dinner here and opted for the early seating. After checking in, we were brought into the dining area which consists of a countertop and a handful of tables, and the space was very minimal and peaceful. We opted for the 18 course omakase experience and a sake pairing. The first couple of courses were steamed welks, fried fish and sashimi and immediately we knew that the freshness of the ingredients would be next level. The sake pairing was extremely educational, and a new sake would be poured every 3 courses. Next up was multiple types of nigiri, including fatty tuna, scallop, mackerel, tuna with caviar, shrimp that was presented alive, then neatly prepped and served to me within 5 minutes. Every bite felt like an event. Then they pulled out a box of some of the most orange uni I've ever seen and that was served with the most delicate seaweed I've ever eaten. The aforementioned shrimp's heads was served friend and seasoned with salt and pepper. Around this time they staff asked each party if they would like a repeat of any of the previous courses as a ala carte and we opted for more fatty tuna as it was one of the best bites of the night. The meal ended with tamago and sorbet that was, unsurprisingly, excellent. The service was outstanding the entire time we were at Wa Shin. The staff was so informative about each sake pairing, the chefs would give the diners further info about each of the courses during the omakase and also had a couple of jokes for us too. The experience was unparalleled and I'm looking forward to returning in the future.

Absolutely wonderful fine dining experience. You sit at the intimate chefs counter and watch them cut and prepare each dish. It's also great to chat with the chef, he's awesome. The service is incredibly attentive, ex. your tea cup is always filled, a drop on your plate is cleaned, pickled ginger always supplied, your phone even gets a little tatami mat! Fish and seafood is incredibly fresh and tender. You can definitely tell the high quality of ingredients, most of which is sourced from Japan. A lovely dinner for a special occasion!

Outstanding. Service from the moment you enter the door to the time you leave is Michelin star quality. Watching Chef Sky & his team prepare the sushi was like watching an artist at work. He was so friendly with a great sense of humor to keep us entertained all evening. There were 8 of us total at the 7pm seating. We were sat immediately & were finished by about 8:50-55pm with an 18 course omakase & optional add ons. Chef Sky explained in detail the type & origin of each fish, with many being imported from Japan. The fish itself was the star of each dish (as it should be) & you could really taste the freshness with each bite. The ambiance was perfect. High end with Japanese inspired decor & soft Japanese lofi playing in the background. Price after tip, 2 omakases, a beer, & an A5 wagyu with uni add-on for each of us came out to $592. Obviously this is a special occasion meal but this experience was phenomenal & highly recommend for a special evening. Courses: 1 Firefly squid Japan 2 Japanese skipjack tuna 3 Japanese skil fish rare 4 Japanese grouper 5 Japanese wild yellowtail 6 Japanese golden eyed snapper 7 Japanese hotate scallop from Hokkaido 8 Young sea bream/snapper 9 Boston King Salmon 10 Japanese Bluefin Tuna 11 Japanese Toro Fatty Tuna 12 Japanese Mackeral Seki Sapa famous 13 Japanese hairy crab 14 Hokkaido Uni 15 Tuna hand roll A5 Wagyu with uni 16 Salt eel 17 Egg cake tomago Japanese hot tea 18 Matcha Panna cotta

To make reservations, it did take a couple of months if you want to coordinate for the common dinner times between like 5-7. I advise to look for booking your dinner time as soon as possible. It was hard to find the front door, but eventually we found the door on the side next to the door. We were greeted warmly and felt very welcomed upon entry. They took our coats and walked us to our seats. The ambiance is very peaceful, calming and enjoyable. The staff were very attentive. The head chef was charismatic and explained what every dish was. They all ask in advance upon seated to know if there were any allergies so that there can be alternatives. The omakase experience was very enjoyable and tasty. The seafood is very fresh that came from Tokyo! They had some seasonal fish was very great to try! Throughout the dinner, the staff remained very attentive. Overall, it was a positive experience!

Ate here on a Tuesday night and my experience was stellar! All of the chefs and wait staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. Good vibes all around. I loved all of the courses, as they were relatively traditional and had bold flavors. My favorite bites were the Toro with caviar, the pufferfish eggs (add-on), and the Japanese mackerel. All of the fish tasted extremely fresh, and the chefs shared that nearly everything came in from Japan that morning. My only recommendation would be to add a wine and sake pairing to enhance the experience. Wa Shin could very easily hold its own with the likes of many mid-to-high tier NYC omakase spots. Extremely reasonable base price of $185 for super high quality sushi. Overall, a must try if you're an omakase lover and in downtown Boston!

I almost don't want to write a positive review because I'd love to keep Wa Shin as a sort of hidden gem but must be honest. This place is absolutely impeccable. Everything is done with care and attention from the greeting at the door to the very last bite. It's definitely a special occasion type spot but it's truly worth the higher price point. Sky is amazing at what he does - talented as well as personable with patrons. I'll continue to come back to Wa Shin as long as it's around!

I'm speechless. Wa Shin is that good! The omakase rivals the best in NYC with the freshness of the fish and the exceptional ambiance and service. It ain't cheap but for the caliber of food, you are more than getting your money's worth. I love when a chef focuses on highlighting the natural flavors of the fish. I don't need a lot of fancy bells and whistles, aka going overboard with the sauces and garnishes, and it's a thin line between overzealous creativity and one or two add-on's that really make the piece sing. The painstaking eye for detail is apparent from the wood used for the counter (hinoki, imported from Japan) to the staff making sure your drink is always filled to the little bowl of house-made pickled ginger (with a tinge of yuzu) is never empty. I noticed Chef Sky would adapt immediately to customers' preferences - if someone didn't like shrimp, he switched it out for another fish; if someone else preferred less wasabi, he made sure to modulate. The chefs also constantly made tiny scores in the fish for more depth of flavor, especially for the pieces getting torched. I could go on and on about what an incredible meal this was. The rice - temperature, coherence, taste - was perfect. From start (an oyster topped with uni) to finish (lychee sorbet), everything reflected a commitment to taste that you wouldn't expect anything less from someone who was mentored by Nakazawa himself. My favorites: - King salmon. Insanely buttery. Best piece of salmon I've ever had. - Tamago. Like an eggy cake. If you've watched Jiro, you know that scene of Nakazawa trying to perfect the tamago and this was all I could think about. - Medium-fatty tuna with caviar. - Eel: this isn't the eel you see in sushi spots where it looks a little too perfect and is drowning in sweet soy sauce. This eel was a lighter color and, yes, cliched as it sounds, melted in my mouth. I will say that a lot of the pieces were pretty light and clean, with only a minimal amount of sauce or garnish. I walked out feeling the perfect level of satiety after 18 courses. To top it all off, Chef Sky is a hoot. Can't say enough good things. 5/5! 10/10 A++++

I would declare this the best omakase in Boston. The ambience is so perfect that we forgot about the passing of time, and felt like we had been transported to Japan. The chef's passion and dedication to detail really shines through the beautifully prepared dinner and experience before your eyes.

My best friend (and sushi connoisseur) highly recommended Wa Shin so I knew I had to come here. He was right and the meal was perfect. I ate here with a friend. Our seating was 4 parties of 2. The hosts and servers were attentive and met our every need without us needing to ask for anything. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. I went with the Benten Sawane Junmai Ginjo and my friend went with Hakkaisan 45 Junmai Daiginjo and Fukucho Moon on the Water Junmai Ginjo. The omakase was 19 (18 if you count spotted prawn as one item) courses. Chef Zheng explained every course, answered our questions, and had great conversations with us. Before we got to the last three courses which were sweeter, we had the option to add a repeat of any of the courses or add something from an a la carte menu. I added an A5 wagyu and uni nigiri, my friend added an uni temaki and big reef squid nigiri (aori ika). I enjoyed every course and our favorites were anything with uni. We'll be back again. The courses were (the A5 wagyu and uni nigiri was an add on): Japanese amberjack Japanese yellowtail blue snapper (umeiro) Kanagawa belt fish tempura Japanese grouper nigiri Striped jackfish nigiri Golden eye snapper nigiri Hokkaido scallop (hotate) nigiri Young sea bream nigiri King salmon nigiri Soy marinated akami nigiri Otoro nigiri with ossetra caviar Spanish mackerel nigiri Spotted prawn nigiri Hokkaido uni gunkanmaki Deep fried spotted prawn head Tuna temaki (not pictured) A5 wagyu uni nigiri (add on) Saltwater eel (anago) nigiri Tamago Black sesame ice cream served with rice green tea (genmaicha)

I am always surprised at how full I am when I leave! I'm stuffed every time. There is complementary miso soup with all of the bowls I've tried, outlined below. I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Each fish comes with two pieces (except the mackerel for which there are four), and I liked the sampler style for the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and izumidai. - Maguro Toro Don: so much tuna! And all such high quality. The otoro was so fatty that it practically melted in my mouth without chewing. - Sake Maguro Hamachi Don: a mix of salmon, blue fin tuna, and yellowtail. I liked the yellowtail in this a lot and found that it stood out the most from the other two fish in this particular bowl!

Received my meal in like 5-7 mins after ordering. Fish was super fresh and I really liked the different textures in the Hoseki Don. I also added in negitoro. They gave me a big clump of it! The second time I went back, I ordered take out so I could eat it at the airport for dinner. I ordered the Sake Maguro Hamachi don, added ikura and negitoro. Again, so impressed with the quality of the fish and the size of it. They didn't skimp out and really enjoyed the thickness of the sashimi despite it only being 3 pieces. It was a very satiating bowl. Cant wait to come back next time again!

Whether you're here for high-end sushi, creative small plates, or comforting kitchen dishes, everything is executed at a very high level. We ordered a massive spread, and almost every single dish was a hit. The Raw Bar & Sushi: * Oysters: These were 10/10. Incredibly fresh, perfectly halved, and meticulously cleaned--not a single piece of shell in sight. We loved them so much we had to go for a second round. * 8pc Omakase & 6pc Aburi Set: Both sets were fantastic. The Aburi (torched) set is a must-try for that smoky melt-in-your-mouth texture. * Uni Nigiri: Even my wife, who usually avoids raw fish, was won over by how creamy and fresh the Uni was. * Tuna Tataki: This was the only "just okay" dish for me. It had good flavor, but I think it would have been elevated with some shredded daikon and a colder temperature. Kitchen & Family Favorites: * Foie Gras Appetizer: Rich, decadent, and a perfect way to start the meal. * Sea Bass: My son absolutely loved this; he finished the entire portion with rice. * Snow Crab Roll: An excellent option for those who prefer cooked rolls. * Tonkotsu Ramen: We finished off the meal with a hot bowl of ramen, which was the perfect savory "topper" to a great dinner. The Experience: The service is efficient and the wait times for food were surprisingly short given how much we ordered. One of the biggest takeaways was the value. The pricing is very fair for this level of quality; back home in Nashville, a meal like this would have easily cost significantly more. The Verdict: While I would love to see a few more small, refreshing salad dishes on the menu to balance out the richness, I left extremely happy. This is a top-tier dining experience and a definite "must-visit" whenever I'm back in town!

XO Seafood Udon: The restaurant specifically labeled it "wok-tossed," and it truly had a wonderful wok-hei鑊氣 (wok aroma), with an irresistible fragrance as soon as it arrived at the table. The shrimp, in particular, were coated with a thin layer of starch before being pan-fried, adding layers of texture and locking in the juices. When I made the reservation online I put that the occasion it was for was my birthday- I notice that most restaurants don't pay attention to this on OpenTable, but Fuji definitely did! We were seated quickly and with no issue at all, despite it being pretty crowded. The vibe was intimate and classy- a great spot for date night, or for dinner with your parents. At our table was a card (in the pictures) which was such a nice touch and was a great start to the meal. Our waitress was awesome, and it seemed like there was a floor manager too that was making sure everyone was happy. It felt like the staff truly cared and wanted to make sure everyone was having a good time and experience. Our waitress checked in on us multiple times, and was very helpful with the menu. Speaking of the menu, I was very pleased to see the amount of vegetarian dishes! You don't see that often at Japanese restaurants! For our appetizers we got the lobster Rangoon and spicy edamame. Technically the tofu is an app but you would never guess that from the portion size. The edamame were outstanding! They were spicy as expected and were so tasty. We demolished the whole bowl. The Rangoons were also amazing- the chunks of lobster were divine. I myself love lobster and crab Rangoons, so a combo?! Amazing. Both the edamame and lobster Rangoons are can't misses. For our entrees/ mains we got the crispy soy noodles, miss Waldorf roll, sweet potato roll, tofu, and fried rice. The miss Waldorf roll is amazing, and I can not wait to go back and get more sushi. Truly the best sushi I have had in boston. There are other upscale sushi restaurants I have been to that charge a pretty penny but taste like grocery store sushi. Fuji is not one of those- it was truly exceptional sushi. The sweet potato roll was also delicious! I am very picky about my sweet potato rolls and had one that I have dreamt about since I had it in 2022. I have finally found a sweet potato roll that matches my standards. The crispy soy noodles were also amazing! They reminded e of one of my favorite restaurants when I was a kid and it filled me with such joy to eat something with that flavor. The serving size was pretty big too, and they were not shy on the shrimp! Note though, they were a tad oily (I added a little bit of soy sauce to balance it out). The fried rice was also very good and tasted like a good bowl of comfort fried rice. My parents ate it with the tofu and liked it! The only dish I would want some change in is the tofu- it wasn't bad but compared to the other dishes it definitely lacked the flavor punch you get in the rest of the dishes. The sauce was okay with it. After dinner our waitress brought a slice of vanilla crepe cake and ice cream! This was such a nice touch and it was SO good!!!!! It was the first time I ever had crepe cake but I loved it! I'm not sure if they have a dessert menu or not (we weren't asked if we wanted to see one) but I would love to go back and get that cake again! Overall I am beyond happy that I picked this spot for my birthday- I had an amazing experience and amazing food. Will definitely be back!

When we walked into Legal, the place was dead, the music was awful, and the vibe was just not there. So we sat at the bar and grabbed a drink while searching for a place to get an actual dinner where we could find last-minute reservations. Shojo in Chinatown came up with great reviews and after looking at the menu and seeing that we could get a reservation, we headed over. It was a short walk from the Ritz and Chinatown is just such a fun place with great energy. When we walked in, we knew we had made the right call and were easily able to switch our reservation from a table to bar seats, which is always an added bonus. The place is low lit and the music is on the louder side, but nothing was excessive to the point that we didn't enjoy our time there. We ordered a variety of drinks while there - a Toki Highball draft, a spicy tequila drink with lemongrass, a few different types of Japanese whiskeys as well (they have a really extensive list). As far as food goes, they categorize their menu into Snacks, Baos, and Rice, Noodles, and Dumplings. There's a lot of vegetarian friendly options, which is always a plus for me. My highlights were the 7 vegetable stir fry, fried eggplant bao, edamame dumplings, and the Thai veggie spring rolls. The salt and pepper calamari was also really great. Everything was terrific and really unique. Service was good - not great, but they took notice of empty glasses and were quick to bring out food, so I have absolutely no complaints. Shojo is somewhere I'd absolutely return to when staying in the area, I'm really happy we all turned what would have been a very touristy, depressing experience into something with a WAY better vibe and time!

We also got the Sichuan Ribeye Bao which was good but felt too dry - could have used some type of sauce! The environment was fun.
