Such a gem in the North End! Chef Gary Lei knows how to put his own unique spin on pan-Asian food and make it even more delicious. The lunch special (6pc omakase with a maki roll) is such a good deal and tastes wonderful, with fresh and multifaceted toppings on each nigiri. The corn tapa and chicken noodles are perfectly seasoned and aren't greasy, which is so hard to find! The hamachi crudo tastes so fresh and tropical, and of COURSE the umami spoon is rich and delicious as always. I love that Chef Gary kept some elements from Umami in Cambridge but is venturing into a whole different vibe and concept here. My mom and I left feeling so satisfied and happy, we were already planning our next visit back. Thank you Chef Gary and team!!

The shop itself was very cool and the server was great! Very helpful and friendly. The roll might have been the best roll I've ever had and the only reason this is a 4 is because the omakase seemed kind of pricey for a set that I didn't absolutely love. It was good and the shrimp was my favorite which is rare

Umami Crudo just opened and is still in soft-opening phase. The $35 lunch omakase special is an easy entry point, especially if you've been curious about omakase but didn't want the dinner price tag! This is the same team as Umami Omakase in Cambridge led by Chef Gary Lei, and it shows where it counts. The quality is the same as Umami Omakase, so one gets to enjoy excellent sushi in a table dine-in setting with friends rather than a traditional omakase experience at the sushi bar. The restaurant itself is spacious, and it has an upper floor where it also has a cocktail bar. If lunch omakase has ever been on your list, give this a go!

4.5 stars I only recently saw this spot pop up and knew I had to try it. The (so far, small number of) reviews gave excellent ratings, so I was excited to try sushi in the North End for the first time. The restaurant is quite small, but I came during a weekday lunch so it was pretty empty, with only one other party seated when I arrived. I will admit to sticker shock when I first got the menu, as the website doesn't have a working menu link and there haven't been enough reviews posted with photos of the menu. It's extremely expensive, with even your "basic" spicy salmon or spicy tuna rolls going for $19. The menu also isn't extensive, with many of the dishes/rolls featuring shellfish, which I can't have. I was curious about the $35 lunch omakase special I had seen advertised on social media, but I wasn't offered that when I went in. I ended up "splurging" on a $26 seared salmon roll. To put it succinctly, the quality of the sushi was excellent. The seared salmon was certainly well-made and hefty enough that I wasn't starving when I left (though certainly not stuffed, either). My only wishes would be for a bit more customizability (for instance, the server poured soy sauce for me, and there was no accompanying wasabi for me to add if I so desired) and larger quantity for such high prices. I found the staff to be quite earnest, returning to check on me frequently and asking if the food was okay. I also paid with a digital wallet, which they were kind enough to allow despite not appearing quite set up for it yet, as they didn't have a handheld device I could tap with but had to go to the register. I would be happy to visit again and am curious to try the omakase.

Writing this review after 3 visits! It's getting better and better. Falling in love with the food and vibes here! Great presentations. Everything look so tempting. Service is attentive and friendly. Best sushi in the area! Great value if you order the omakase sets

Enjoyed cold lobster somen with sesame dressing, salt and pepper wings, toro Uni tart. Subdued modern vibe. Good alternative to Neptune oyster nearby.

My wife and I drove down from Maine for a Bruins game and came here first. We had the most amazing experience in so many ways. The Vibe was perfect! The lighting, the background music and the decor was perfect. We were greeted by Yan who was extremely pleasant and she helped us decide on what to order. The food was out of this world! The best Japanese food I have ever had, including the sake.

New sushi spot in North End, Boston! The $59 9-piece omakase was fresh, vibrant, and delicate, and I enjoyed the Umami Omakase, Volcano Roll, and Umami Spoon (caviar, uni, quail egg, toro tartar). Each bite highlighted the natural flavors well, a solid sushi experience. Convenient $3 validated parking for up to 3 hours at Haymarket Center Garage. A great option for a sushi night, especially if you're in the area.

My first impression is that its a cozy and comfortable room where you can enjoy conversation because the music, which is pleasant, isn't too loud. The service is very friendly and our server gave us some excellent recommendations. We had the sea urchin which was amazing because it reminded me of my trip to Maui in 2018! After all the crudo, we weren't that hungry but we had to try the purple sweet potatos and OMG They were great - especially with the not too sweet, not too dry Dassai Blue saki. Looking forward to visiting again.

First visit, Monday 4/20/26…read more Visiting Boston on a work trip, I had no idea the Marathon was today! Met 4 colleagues at The Red Fox for dinner, a recommendation from a friend of my colleague. Tough to find initially and very unsuspecting upon arrival. As you enter the front door (think like walking into a foyer of a small apartment building) you go down a flight of stairs into the restaurant. Then wow, this place is awesome! Small entry way into the restaurant with a hostess immediately greeting you. The bar is your first view of the place and it was packed. I'd describe it as dimly light, great atmosphere and ambience, almost a speakeasy feel. I'd recommend a reservation. The hostess walked us to our table, walking along the bar line with small 2-4 top tables to our left, we then turned left into the main dining room. 5 of us and we were seated at a horseshoe style table, plenty of room for up to 6 adults. Service was instant, she was friendly and very knowledgeable. We ordered cocktails and a couple apps. The drinks arrived along with bread service. They added small side plates with oils and olives, a nice touch. The cocktails were fantastic as was the homemade bread. A unique twist with my cocktail (kettle one & soda), was the single ice cube that was a long rectangle cube that was so clear you couldn't see it! The cubes length was the same as the tall glass it was served in and didn't melt. For dinner I listened to our server who recommended the Chicken Parmigiana with a chefs twist using a vodka infused sauce, this dish was amazing! My colleagues all shared the same feelings that this meal was spectacular. Highly recommend The Red Fox!

Their martinis are always spot on. The Parmesan martini is shockingly good, especially as someone who doesn't like dirty Martinis. The spinach and ricotta appetizer with the sage butter is so good. Arancini was also good. Both times have had the vodka pasta, and the orrechiete. The first time the orrechiete was very al dente, so just asked to cook a little more during my second visit and it was perfect. Spaghetti al limone was a nice complement to the other two!

For two straight years, my top-tier chum who…read moreliterally went to the school of hospitality and I mistakenly thought we could just wing it in the North End prior to Celtics games on the weekends and find a decent place to eat without a reservation. We were burned two times (not egregiously, but where we had to go to mediocre establishments that had seating availability for a reason), but no more. Parla isn't an off-the-charts Italian restaurant, but it was above average and the cocktail situation is excellent. I stumbled across Parla last year when we were looking for dining options, but alas, not in time to secure a reservation. The cocktail menu looked intriguing (particularly their ye olde shrub cocktail mix and match section) and the location seemed convenient. This time around we made dinner reservations about two months in advance, which I'd pretty much recommend for anything in this neighborhood if you have the ability. We came by this past Sunday before the Celtics/Timberwolves (there were multiple patrons wearing jerseys, including us) around 5pm in the rain. The entrance is a little nondescript but ultimately easy enough to spot. It's a pretty intimate interior with limited seating (maybe 10 tables or so?) and only four bar stools at the bar in the back. We were seated by the front window which was nice but again, offered at that time merely an excellent view of early spring weather. The food we had was good, and yet not the selling point - sort of a compliment, sort of not. We split the seared octopus app, which was interesting but ultimately not my favorite way to eat that particular seafood; I'm used to it grilled. We were both a little surprised to see it in salad form and had to refer back to the menu, which did mention one of the other ingredients as arugula (a fair clue). I would recommend they put the word "salad" in the official name of the app though; my guess is we probably opt for something else if we had that additional information. That said, it was fine - I wasn't crazy about the pairing of octopus and balsamic vinegar/arugula, which to me and my chum dominated the palate over the octopus, which should totally be the star of the dish. For my entree, I went with the chicken parm, which was very good - decent portion for sure and I almost finished it despite eating two other meals fairly recently. Interestingly, the best part is the sauce - it's a sweeter sauce that's thick but not chunky. Really good, and something I'd get again in a pinch. The cocktails are really something. For me, I stumbled a little out of the gate with the shrub section, opting for a mule with strawberry peppercorn. It wasn't bad but for my palate, it felt off - that's a drink I should be getting in July, not a nippy/rainy March evening. On me completely. My chum got the margarita equivalent and liked it enough to order it two more times. But I shifted to a very cool gimmick they had, which I believe was called Dungeon Master (an homage to D&D?), where you rolled a 20-sided die and had to pick whatever cocktail was associated with the specific number, no questions asked. My chum gets a little naughty with gin so couldn't risk it and had to just watch mournfully on the other side of the table as I played twice. Both of my mystery cocktails had gin in it, so...probably the right decision, at least from my perspective. I don't want to provide spoilers and damage the integrity of the game, but the nuanced layers to each drink are exactly why I love mixology/a good cocktail - the only kind of science I truly get behind. (I also liked learning about clouds in 5th grade). Very cool feature and something I'd love to make an annual tradition. Our waitress was great. She initially seemed a little eccentric/ditzy (in a good way), but it was clear that that was a mirage - she was VERY observant and at the end of the meal knew my first name for my specific credit card because earlier she'd noticed my head tilt when someone at another table used it. Really impressive stuff and a huge asset for the restaurant. She also was super knowledgeable about the menu and the cocktails specifically, and it was fun to guess what was in each of my mystery beverages with her after I took a few experimental nips. Very cool, very unique establishment. Glad to finally find a selling point for the North End.
