We stopped in on a late Tuesday night looking for a quiet, low-key dinner, and overall, it was a solid experience. The first thing we noticed was that the portions here were surprisingly generous--definitely much larger than what I'm typically used to at other sushi spots. We started with the Sashimi appetizer ($9.95), which was the absolute highlight of the night. The fish was incredibly fresh and literally melted in my mouth--I highly recommend it! We followed that up with the Alligator roll ($14.95) and the Salmon Torch roll ($14.95). Both rolls were packed with flavor and felt like a great value for the price. We also paired our meal with some Ozeki sake ($10.00), which hit the spot. The service was decent, though it felt a little disjointed at times. Our waiter actually forgot to bring out our soy sauce because he mistakenly assumed we already had some at our table, so we had to flag him down to get that sorted. My biggest takeaway for future guests, however, is about the climate control: the air conditioning was absolutely blasting. It was so cold inside that it actually became a bit uncomfortable to sit through the meal. Was staying at the W Hotel when my buddy fell asleep and was on my own for dinner. I was in the mood for some sushi, but wanted to stay close. Walked by this place and stopped in. Asked to see a menu and decided to stay. Asked if they had a bar and he said up the stairs. Upstairs is a 6 seated small bar. An older Asian man asked me how I was doing. I told him to make me a not so sweet vodka drink. He landed on a lemon martini. Odd, since I said I didn't want sweet, but it worked. He made it not very sweet. It was pretty delicious. We were sat as soon as we walked in on a Saturday night which I was surprised about, water was ready for us seconds later. I'm not sure what's going on upstairs as we were sat at the small tables across from the bar. Our lemon drops and gyoza came out within 10 minutes. Both the drink and appetizer were amazing, Right around when we finished our appetizer our sushi rolls were brought to us. We ordered a shrimp tempura, a dragon roll and a Hawaiian roll. The timing of things coming out to the table was spot on. I do have to say, we stopped here on a whim as our hotel was across the street, but everything from the service to the food was INCREDIBLE. Definitely one of my favorite sushi places considering I do not eat seafood or meat. It has selected vegetarian options, but in my opinion they are pretty good compared to other places in town. Most of the locations are small and cozy, except for the Boston location. Parking is hard to find considering the location. The service is good but if you sit upstairs and they are busy, it can take a little bit before someone takes your order. As for the food, I ordered two vegetarian rolls (Vegetables Dragon and Veggie Delight). They have an expansive selection of vegetarian options, which is the main reason why I chose to order here. I definitely preferred one of the rolls over the other, but they were both interesting and filling. Two rolls was enough for a full dinner plus a small lunch the next day. I did think it was a little pricey for vegetarian rolls ($9+ per speciality roll, under $5 for basic rolls). Everything was packaged up well, except my only complaint was that the rolls weren't labeled. I greatly preferred one of the rolls over the other one (the crunchier one was my favorite), but the ingredients were so similar and the boxes weren't labeled, so I wasn't sure which one was which. I'm inclined to say that the Veggie Delight was the one I preferred since it didn't have banana, but I can't be 100% sure. Overall, I would probably come again for dine-in. The restaurants is typically filled with large parties. Especially the Dedham location since there's plenty of parking. The drink menu is detailed with traditional and crafted drinks. I've now patronized all of their locations at this point and their Boston location is hands down the best one. At Genki Ya Boston they offer a list of various maki combo rolls and the waitresses are nice. The pricing is in line with other sushi places. I suggest dining upstairs as the atmosphere is nicer (including the view). I also suggest the triple torch maki as it includes tuna, salmon, yellowtail and tobiko. The double spicy tuna made with tempura is also quite good. They also offer a choice of white, brown or multigrain sushi rice. The sunrise maki (shrimp tempura with tuna) was a little disappointing but it's possible that the flavors are just not for me. read more

Food: I got pan fried pork gyoza and a scorpion roll. The gyoza were delicious. They had a lot of pork so they tasted great. My scorpion roll was a letdown. The shrimp that was on top was room temp at best. Sushi should definitely not be warm. I choked down a few bites but it is really hard to enjoy warm raw fish. The flavor wasn't terrible but it was hard to enjoy mediocre sushi when it was so warm. Service: The waitress was nice and quick. We didn't have any problems with our service but nothing stood out either. Ambience: The place was small on the first floor and the tables were a little too close to be comfortable if there was another party seated next to you.
