Great location, good food, quick service! Would recommend trying if you are in the Boston Common area.

Seaweed Salad

They only do reservations for parties of 5 or larger but you can just walk in - there's no wait and they have great turnaround service. There's two floors so there's plenty of space - great for a cute date or friend hangout. Seaweed salad 7/10 - A little more savory than I'm used to but I really appreciated the flavor! Spider roll 7/10 - - [According to my partner] Good but it's a heavy roll. Spicy king crab tempura roll 10/10 - - [According to my partner] Light & crispy; almost melts in your mouth. Spicy yellowtail nigiri/roll 9/10 - The yellowtail was so fresh! I added some of their eel sauce which was also different than I'm used to (i.e., less sweet + more spiced) but still added a nice touch. Salmon sashimi 10/10 - [According to my partner] Fresh and melts in your mouth. Ume shiso roll 5/10 - This had an unsuspecting bite? It's very strong but it was much better once I added spicy mayo. Sweetie roll 10000000/10 - As someone who hates mango in their sushi, this was the best sushi roll I've had in a whiiiiiiiiiiiiile. I even forgot that it was vegetarian. So good!

Was staying at the W Hotel when my buddy fell asleep and was on my own for dinner. I was in the mood for some sushi, but wanted to stay close. Walked by this place and stopped in. Asked to see a menu and decided to stay. Asked if they had a bar and he said up the stairs. Upstairs is a 6 seated small bar. An older Asian man asked me how I was doing. I told him to make me a not so sweet vodka drink. He landed on a lemon martini. Odd, since I said I didn't want sweet, but it worked. He made it not very sweet. It was pretty delicious. After looking at the menu I landed on the sushi and shami plate for like $42. Fish tasted fresh and the shrimp was extra good. Highly recommend for a quick fresh bite to eat

Glass of Merlot I believe, spicy tuna hand roll, unagi hand roll

Food was great! The hand rolls were really big. It's surprised me because they were priced really well, and the glass of wine was the cherry on top. The Staff is very attentive and friendly.

Definitely one of my favorite sushi places considering I do not eat seafood or meat. It has selected vegetarian options, but in my opinion they are pretty good compared to other places in town. Most of the locations are small and cozy, except for the Boston location. Parking is hard to find considering the location. The service is good but if you sit upstairs and they are busy, it can take a little bit before someone takes your order. My favorite items to order are- Miso soup Yasai Gyoza Sweetie Roll - my favorite Hawaii Roll - 2nd favorite Order the gyoza sauce instead of soya sauce and have your sushi with that. the sauce is delicious.

Vegetable rolls

I stopped in here during a slow part of the day, so I was the only one in there. They had a plethora of vegetarian options, more than I've seen at any other sushi restaurant I've been to, which was super nice. The rolls themselves were good, the one with banana in it was a nice suprise.

Salmon Torch Roll + some epic Yellowtail nigiri

Truly, ignore other reviews. We were not going to come in due to the 3.5 average, but on a wicked busy Saturday evening we struck out at several nice restaurants near the W hotel. Genki Ya = fantastic sushi!!! Everything we had we loved. Hand rolls, sashimi, double salmon roll. But the TORCHED SALMON was so good and different. Service was great & crazy fast.

Great spot for takeout, and the fish to rice ratio on the maki is solid. I love their spicy salmon and sweet potato rolls!

If you've ever been to Backbar, it's the same great quality of drinks just south of the river! Service was great and super attentive when refilling water and getting our orders in. We arrived for our whirlwind 1 day Boston day with a few things planned. The Wig Shop was a spot I had earmarked as a maybe. On the way to Boston by train from New York, I read an article of great bars in all of America, and the Wig Shop had made their list. I showed my gal as we were in route to Boston, and we agreed that Karma was leading us there. I checked about a reservation, but ended up going over early to try and beat the walk in crowd. That worked out great, we had almost no wait. The place was full. There were alot of people enjoying the food menu, which we didn't plan on since we had dinner reservations elsewhere for later. But we got a couple of drinks. There are many types of speakeasies. The Wig Shop is one of favorite kinds, classy. The drinks were alcohol forward, with elegant presentations. It was perfect. It was nice that the universe pointed us towards this great Boston spot.

This place was awesome!!!…read more If you are a Gen X'er, and love great cocktails, you will love this place! So we are from out of town; Texas, to be exact, and we were in Boston on vacation. We were looking for a place we could get some drinks and appetizers, and maybe watch some sports. A person in our group found this place online, so we gave it a try. We loved it! The 80s & 90s decor, as well as the 80s & 90s music they were playing made it an instant hit for our Gen X group. Every single song that was played was on my personal playlist, so we sang along and danced at our table to the tunes that took us back in time. There were some early 2000s songs played, too, but all songs played were songs we know and love. So needless to say, we loved the music!! Also, the drinks...oh my, the drinks. They were so, so good! Some in our group had the Adult Caprisun, including myself. It was so tasty, and served in an actual pouch, which brought me back to my 80s childhood. Another in our group ordered the Pink Flamingo which came with a little inflatable pink flamingo that you could take home with you. We noticed that the drinks were just perfect, too; not too strong with alcohol, and not watered down, either. The food was okay. It's bar food, so it's not going to knock your socks off or anything, but it hits the spot if you are drinking and hanging with friends. Our server was good. She was attentive to our needs and took good care of us. It was interesting to me that we, a group of age 50 somethings, were the oldest among the clientele, as everyone else was probably in their 20s or early 30s, but we didn't care. We had a great time! The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because someone in our group wanted to watch the Red Sox game, and apparently it was on Apple TV that night and the bar didn't have Apple TV.

The atmosphere is very casual and low-key, perfect for grabbing drinks and a bite without any pretense. I ordered a flatbread listed as a Margarita, but it was more like a cheese pizza than a true Margarita. It was still decent, just not what I expected. The online menu did not match what was available at the restaurant, which made ordering a little confusing. On the drink side, the wine selection was underwhelming, but the beer list was solid, and the cocktail menu stood out. They clearly put more focus on mixed drinks. This is not a fine dining destination, but it works well for what it is, a laid-back bar with better-than-average food and a great drink program. I rate it 3.5 stars, but will round up to 4 for the strong service and cocktails. It is a good choice if you're looking for a casual spot downtown with good energy.

So of course we had to see for ourselves! This is an upscale bar and the decor looks like a sitting library. They take reservations but we didn't have any so be prepared to take your chances at the bar - even on a weekday during lunchtime. We ended up standing by the bar and ordered two old fashion's. Oh my goodness they were SO GOOD. Expensive but worth it. Eventually a seat at the bar did open up so one of us sat and the other stood. We only stayed for one drink but the food people were ordering looked good. And the other drinks looked good too. The bartenders were also friendly. I would say the attire is mixed but mostly smart casual for the daytime. There was a couple visiting their daughter in college who were casually dressed so I really don't think it matters. At least not for the daytime. Money is good whether you're wearing yoga pants or a nice dress .

Wait... but I'm giving two stars. Yes. I arrived and the man at the door looked me up and down, then said, "yeah, we're pretty full." and stood there, hand on the door, still closed. I said "I'm okay with that." he sighed "okay." and finally let me in. Not a nice greeting. I went in and waited at the gorgeous bar, just as cozy as I had hoped and got a drink. I had a negroni and it was meh. I decided to leave because this was not the experience I was hoping for. Cozy setting, Great location, Dismissive rude staff ruined the whole thing. Busy is one thing but rudeness? Not okay.
