Came here over the weekend for dinner and ordered several different rolls to share. The sushi was just okay -- nothing really stood out, but fine for a quick bite. The experience was almost pleasant until the bill arrived with an automatic 20% service charge added. The total came to about $100, with a suggested 20% minimum tip on top of that. What really bothered me was how the waitstaff handled the payment -- they brought over portable card readers, preselected the service charge for you, and stood there watching as you paid, making it awkward to question or change it. The device was hardcode with only tipping amounts of 20% | 30% | 40% selection. This was not an upscale high end place that commands this type of tipping. Or else i would happily oblige. This was my second time at Fuji and I got to try a few more sushi rolls. The rolls only came with six pieces each, but they were pretty substantial, especially the makimono specials. In fact, it was a bit of a challenge to eat each piece in one bite! Next time I will have to try some of their non-sushi offerings. I could tell the ingredients were of high quality and the rice was cooked perfectly. They put a good amount of tobiko and other toppings on each piece. I think they could have added a bit less sauce on some of the rolls, especially the eel, because some bites were very sweet. Overall, still a big fan. The sushi here was fresh and delicious! This was one of my favorite spicy tuna rolls that I've ever had, it has a great amount of flavor, crunch, and the portion size is pretty good too. I also got the salmon, tuna, and yellowtail sushi. My favorite was the yellowtail sushi by far. If I order from here again I would probably just get the yellowtail since I liked those much better than the tuna and salmon sushi. I also got the seaweed salad which was very good and was a huge portion! They gave a nice amount of soy sauce on the side and even a little tin boat to put the soy sauce in. The ambiance when I walked in was great and the inside looked super cute. Love Fuji Kendall but it won't be the cheapest sushi meal. The quality is surely worth it however. Personally I just go for the classic rolls so I don't really try anything crazy at any sushi place, so my go tos are salmon avocado and spicy tuna. (Last visited 3/24/2021.) While working at M.I.T. in Cambridge (basically Boston) and staying at the Hotel Marlowe I'm within walking distance of several nice restaurants. Back in August of 2020 my fiancée and I were in the area where we tried to pay Fuji a visit, but they were only offering takeout service at the time so we went elsewhere because we wanted to sit in to eat. You know, date night stuff. Well, I'm back on my own and they're still only doing takeout, but I really wanted sushi... so here goes! Atmosphere/Appearance: Based right on the corner of Linskey Way and 3rd Street is this gem. It's an elongated style restaurant with the bar and main dining room being to the right of the entrance with more dining off to the left. The décor is so chic and elegant. Everything is so nice, high-quality, laid out well and mature. This place gave me great vibes. Service: Since I had to get my food to-go, I didn't experience much service, but Andy at the host stand took excellent care of me. He was friendly and I really appreciated how welcoming he was. Food: So I went with an appetizer and 3 of their specialty rolls, which are called Makimono Specials. First up was the spicy edamame appetizer. They were delicious and not as salty as I expected them to be given the added spice, which was a good thing! The first of the Makimono rolls was the Boston Maki which is simply, smoked salmon and avocado wrapped inside of sticky white rice. It was delicious. The salmon was soft, had an amazing smoked flavor and the avocado paired nicely with it. Next up was the special of the week, the Hot Hamachi Roll, which was an interesting mixture of Hamachi, jalapeno and mango stuffed inside a rice roll then topped with more hamachi, umi and sweet sauce. This was very interesting. It wasn't my favorite combination of flavors, but the quality was definitely grand. Last, but not least, but certainly the most interesting was the Philly Cheese Steak Maki. Yes, I was brave enough to try it. It's sliced sirloin beef, cheddar cheese and peppers stuffed inside a rice roll then topped with seared cheese and tomato mayonnaise. This too, wasn't my favorite. The flavors were okay, but it wasn't what I was expecting to taste. It's hard to explain. Lol. So 1 out of 3 of the rolls I tried were really good to me, but that's at no fault of the restaurant. I went and tried some pretty wild things. Value: Spicy Edamame = $7.00 Hot Hamachi Maki = $16.00 (6 pieces) Boston Maki = $7.50 (6 pieces) Philly Cheese Steak Maki = $9.00 (6 pieces) It's sushi so if you've ever eaten at a sushi restaurant then you already know what to expect. This place is no different, but the food is absolutely worth the price. The quality is absolutely there. The décor is so lovely and well thought-out. The experience is worth it. In conclusion, though I didn't love some of my food choices, that will not deter me from coming back to try more of their menu. The quality is superb and I love what this place stands for. Pretty good sushi spot in Kendall Square! They have lunch specials offered, as well as a bar. I came on a weekday during lunch and it was pretty busy. I lucked out and got seated quickly which I was thankful for. I got one of the specials which had a variety of cut rolls, a side salad, and miso soup. Fuji is our go-to place locally for sushi and Asian-inspired food that will never disappoint at the price point. They also will not blow you away with any crazy creative dishes based on our experiences there. The value-to-price here is spot-on which is not something we have experienced a lot in Cambridge. Typically you see a higher price point than expected for what you get which is not the case here. However, everything is pretty basic from a food perspective. That's not a bad thing, but with a lot of competition in the area it's not a place that I would rave about the food either. It's well-executed, fresh, not oily, and that is what I've come to expect from a place of this stature. It's a solid choice and one that we've visited multiple times. At the end of the day, Fuji offers a great menu of Asian-inspired food and extremely well-executed sushi. I've been to other Fuji branches and this is definitely a smaller one. It is close to a T stop making it very accessible. I was here on a Friday night around 8pm (an hour before closing) with a friend. Their menu is very detailed and we weren't sure what to order. We ended up getting a Boat to split between two people. The boat had a variety of options from sashimi and regular rolls. The service was nice and kind and they even came around for last call. Great experience, would definitely be back. read more

Got Uber eats from Fuji Kendall because they had a vegetarian bento box option. I was really excited because I'm vegetarian and most places don't have this so I was willing to overlook the price. Online it said the vegetarian bento box includes white rice, gyoza, an avocado cucumber roll, salad, soup, assorted vegetable tempura, and vegetable harumaki. I ordered the veggie bento box plus a sweet potato roll. The order took over an hour and a half to get delivered and by the time I received my food all the hot items were cold. When I opened up my bento box I saw they gave me raw veggies instead of vegetable tempura. My sweet potato roll also did not have tempura in it - it was just a cooked sweet potato. I'm really upset because I did not say I didn't want tempura on my order. Additionally, I did not get the pieces of vegetable harumaki or the rice that is supposed to come in the bento box. How do you forget rice in a bento box?! That's literally one of the most important parts. The food itself was ok, but the soup that came with the order was basically inedible and the total price of my order was $30 plus Uber fees - which was ridiculous for what I received. If they had actually given me what I asked for I might try this place again but because this happened I won't be ordering from here again. Vegetarians especially - avoid! read more

Came here with a friend on a weekday evening and it was pretty empty (pre-pandemic). I guess we ate dinner a little early, but we were the only people in the restaurant and it was still around 6pm. We ordered a couple of sushi rolls and I feel like the fish quality wasn't anything special. For the price, I think I've had better sushi and this place is just okay to satisfy a craving that you have. During the evening, it's more dimly met and sets the mood for a romantic night out. I really appreciated the interior decoration and liked the organized set up of the tables and chairs. I also thought the tables were set up pretty cutely. I can confidently say that I have never had a bad dish here; everything is delicious and priced similarly to other restaurants in the area. I live right down the street from Fuji at Kendall so between the location and the fact that they offer online ordering, it's turned into one of my regular spots. This place is pretty good and the quality of the food is pretty consistent, the only reason for the 3 stars is that the prices are VERY high for what it is. There's not a ton of creativity to their menu and the quality is not quite as good as other sushi spots in Central and Harvard with lower price points. They do offer a discounted "appy hour" and lunch deals that are worth coming at a weird time in order to save a little cash. I also love their spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls, because they're at a lower price point and it tastes like they mix the spicy mayo right in with the fish which is a bit more unique. As far as the specialty rolls go, I haven't tried many because I can't justify the cost other than for a special occasion or maybe date night. Great ambience, located a five minute walk from Kendall T station. We went at 7ish and it was starting to get packed, but the service was great--they had a lot of cocktail and alcohol options that seemed delicious, we just didn't happen to try any. Highlight of dinner was definitely the spicy salmon maki. Salmon was incredibly fatty and delicious, definitely high quality. We also ordered the Tempura maki, popcorn shrimp and Agedashi Tofu. While the agedashi tofu and tempura maki were alright, the popcorn shrimp is definitely a must try. The coating is flaky and light, and the shrimp tasted fresh and bouncy. It's hard to go across the Boston area without coming across a Fuji establishment. Over the years, the Fuji Group has established themselves within different neighborhoods (Assembly, Ink Block, WOC, Kendall) via the Fuji name, similar to Stephanie's, as well as restaurants Shabu & Mein and Yocha. I've dined at most of them with the exception of the Assembly location. I recently came to the Kendall location with two coworkers for lunch and made the reservation via Yelp. I had to change the time from 12 to 11:30 and the hostess was gracious enough to change it even though that time slot was not available online. The restaurant also quickly filled up as we continued our lunch, so a reservation is definitely recommended! As for food, my two coworkers ordered the bento box (chicken and steak teriyaki) and I ordered Sushi Deluxe (10 piece nigiri and 6 piece tuna roll). We also ordered the Popcorn shrimp and Fish and Chips Salad. Bento - These came with a variety of sides and the main protein grilled and slathered with sauce over a bed of rice. Both my coworkers felt that the proteins were lacking and they only ate around a quarter of it while finishing the sides. Would not recommend. Sushi Deluxe - This came with five variety of nigiris (2 piece each). Compared to other sushi restaurants, their rice was on the smaller side. Taken as a whole, it was pretty standard and did not shine either. It also did not come with sides such as soup or salad. Popcorn Shrimp - This was probably our favorite! Shrimps are cut into smaller bite size pieces, battered and fried and dusted with a chili powder, served with a citrus soy. Fish and Chips - The appetizer was a mix of various diced fishes and avocado, tossed in what looks like srirachia mayo and with 4 small chips. I would have liked more seasoning on the fish and more chips. It also came towards the end after we had finished our main courses. We had thought that they forgot the appetizer. Overall, we weren't too impressed with the food. All the sushi rolls are amazing, especially the Maki Me Hungry roll (mango and tuna!).
