First time at the small sushi place, the food was okay. But buyer beware, the prices on the menu are not the same as our check. Everything is between 30 to 50 percent more. When we got the menu, there was a small taped paper on top of the menu saying something like prices not as the menu, I even made a joke about what does this mean to my granddaughters. Got home and read reviews on this place and saw reviews 2 years ago about customers complaining about the prices not the same as charged. This is a pretty small but decent sushi spot in Brookline. They've recently increased their prices, but they still end up slightly lower than the other similarly-sized sushi restaurants in the area. I had the Lunch special which was $16.99 for 3 rolls, miso soup, and salad. At a lot of other places, I've been seeing $18.99 or higher, so this is a really great price despite it being higher than it was last year. As for the quality, it's pretty solid with a few downsides: Miso soup - this was a standard miso soup from a takeout place - nothing wrong with that! Salad - I really like their ginger-based dressing - it makes the salad have a nice sweet and savory flavor. Spicy Scallop roll - this is extremely rare - most places I see don't have spicy scallop at all, and if they do, it's not an option for the lunch special. However, there are a lot of cucumbers in here so it's hard to taste the scallop, but I get it - scallop is a pretty expensive ingredient so this still gets positive points for even being an option! Spicy Tuna roll - this one was a little iffy. The minced tuna was fine, but the tempura flakes mixed in had a little bit of a stale and oily taste. Is it possible for sushi to be oily? This one was, which was a little strange, but it wasn't the worst thing. I'd probably skip this roll next time. Spicy Yellowtail roll - this one had the same tempura in it, but the fish was in chunks instead of being completely minced. I'm not sure why, but this one didn't taste oily - it was quite nice. All in all, the price is great, the quality is decent, and you get a good amount of food. I'd definitely come back, but maybe I'd skip the spicy tuna next time. 4/5! read more

No matter how many sushi places we've tried so far, U-Sushi comes out at the top! They are consistently good when it comes to flavor and freshness, their service is timely and friendly, portion sizes are good, and prices are fair. What more could you want?! We have some staples everytime we order - the spicy salmon Maki roll and spicy tuna salad. While both aren't technical spicy, they at least have a hint of spice as compared to what we've eaten at other restaurants. We also end up getting one of their specialty maki rolls, sometimes with shrimp tempura, spicy seafood salad, salmon or tuna, and they're all delicious. We order directly at the store, so we usually get a free edamame or seaweed salad since we exceed the price threshold. This is usually more than enough for two people. We ate our rolls, which were fine. The problem was the bill. We noted that we were charged $2-3 extra for each menu item. When we brought this up to the owners, they stated that they had raised prices but had not printed new menus. They said (unprompted) that they had checked with their attorney and that they were told that since they had posted the accurate prices on their website, it did not matter that their printed menus were inaccurate. Please note, they did not point this out to us before we ordered, they never at any time directed us to the "accurate" prices on the online menu. They instead handed us their inaccurate, printed menus and allowed us to believe these were the real prices. We did not protest. We paid the bill as given to us and we tipped them a full 20%. However, the entire experience left us feeling disappointed and duped. I understand that costs are rising and that prices must increase. However, the way the owners of this establishment purposely misrepresented their prices was unfair and I believe illegal. We will not be returning and I would advise others to monitor their checks closely. Clearly they are not above tricking/misleading/lying to their customers for an extra buck. Yes to the sushi, no to everything else on the menu... We stopped by for a late lunch and oddly enough they were out of several drinks and sushi that we wanted to order. When we tried to ask the server, she didn't seem to understand our question or have any recommendations. For sushi I ordered the Princess Maki - Wrapped with soy paper, lightly battered and deep fried with unagi sauce. It was tasty enough and I should have stuck with this exclusively. Aside from the maki I also ordered the Spider Tempura, and Pork Katsu which came with Miso Soup. My friends ordered the Big Mountain Sake, beef teriyaki (appetizer), gyoza, and green tea/red bean mochi for dessert. We arrived starving, ready to eat everything. The Spider Tempura was edible but I realized it was a mistake when it tasted mostly like fried batter than anything resembling a crab in taste rather than appearance. The Pork Katsu again was hard to discern a taste other than fried, the sauce reminded me of A1 steak sauce. I couldn't finish it so I ate it the following day for lunch. As for my friend's beef teriyaki, it was such tough meat that the sauce could not penetrate it in anyway. It tasted dry and unappetizing. Overall the service was fine since we and another table were the only group in this small restaurant. The restroom was relatively clean, albeit a bit dark. Stuck on campus studying for my boards (man, grad school is really cramping my foodie adventures), my classmates and I decided to order some delivery for dinner on a Sunday night. We saw U-Sushi delivers, so we placed our order. I decided upon an order of edamame and the chicken katsu dinner entree which came with miso soup. The edamame was sub-par - they were very bland and definitely needed a little salt. As for the chicken katsu - the breeding was soggy (probably a result of being delivered) and the chicken was tough. Again, it lacked seasoning and flavor. The miso soup was probably the best part of the meal - and that's not saying a lot. For the prices, this isn't going to be your "go-to" for Asian or sushi delivery. The entire meal was subpar and needed a lot of TLC in the seasoning department. My foodler sushi rotation includes U-Sushi, Fin, and Yamato - so I basically eat a lot of sushi each week. Not ashamed, don't judge me. Pricing - great. The normal rolls are really affordable, usually at least $1-2 less then most competitors in Boston: that mean I get to order more rolls to try different things. Delivery fee is only $2, quite reasonable. Now a day I try to be less lazy - go and pick up my own food now, finally get to see what the restaurant look like: it's pretty small but pretty cozy. I love the option of having handrolls (no additional charge). Salmon skin handrolls taste really awesome. I like it as maki too. Louisiana Roll is interesting (Crawfish!) not like super amazing but it's pretty good change sometime. Usually get the basic salmon roll. Our salmon roll today kinda taste like it's smoke though - so not into that but it's generally very good. I've try so many of there rolls, I am too lazy to list them all here but so far nothing is bad. For quick easy eats that's also cheap, this is a good choice. The sake don here is great. This place was just terrible. I was really hoping that it was going to be good, since a lot of the yelp reviews speak really highly of the restaurant. However, I went for lunch and it was an all-around terrible experience- so bad I considered just leaving several times during the meal, and then after the meal ended up going to a different restaurant anyway. Customer Service - The customer service was really bad. I was waiting for at least five minutes to be seated when I arrived, even though there was only one other couple in the restaurant. The server/host didn't even come out, the sushi chef had to seat us. After another five minutes, the server/host came out and finally gave us menus. He would disappear into the kitchen for ten to fifteen minutes at a time. When he dropped my coke off he didn't even open the can, or offer me a glass for it. It's a small thing, but at a sit-down restaurant, its kind of expected to get at least offered a glass for your drink. At the end of the meal, he came and sat at the host stand, which was next to our table, and sat there texting. Food - I was hoping the food would be good, because I really appreciated the sushi chef seating us and being friendly, but unfortunately it wasn't. The rolls were weirdly proportioned...there was almost a roll's worth of shrimp tempura sticking out the ends of one of the rolls. And in addition, they just didn't taste very fresh. The sake nigiri was not fresh, and I didn't even eat the second piece because I was too worried I would get sick. Ambiance - The bathroom door doesn't lock, which is disconcerting at best for a restaurant. The restaurant is quite small, which isn't a bad thing, but because of this I wouldn't recommend bringing a large group here even if you wanted to risk the customer service/food. The U-Sushi was spicy tuna inside and spicy scallop on top. It was really good. The Absolute Spider was fried soft shell crab with salmon on top - I want to say it was the best I have ever had!
