Some of the freshest fish I've ever had! As you can tell from the photos we are big salmon fans- and they did not disappoint. This place was gorgeous and spotless all around; we enjoyed our meal thoroughly. The fish was fresh and tasty, the service was immaculate and we were attended to frequently even though it was extremely busy. The atmosphere on a Saturday night can't be matched, it was so lively here! Cute place for a date night/special event, and you can walk around afterwards as well. Parking is on street so you'll have to look around for a bit.

The loveliest local spot for creative and amazingly flavorful sushi. The combinations were outstanding and unique. Every bite was satisfying and superb. The service was warm and inviting, as is the interior space and decor. We will be returning every chance we have when in Boston.

This fashionable sushi restaurant was welcoming and fun, a great addition to Newton. We loved the pristine fish, inventive rolls, and friendly service and menu advice from the owner. My only quibble is that a real menu would be a nice addition. But all in all, looking forward to returning!

Really great quality fish! Tried the Ora King Salmon Tacos (5/5 my favorite thing we ordered), Kabayaki Chicken Wings (5/5 just well done), Spicy Avocado and Shrimp Salad (5/5), Twenty Piece Sashimi (5/5 great quality), Phoenix Roll, Northside Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Roll, all of which were great! I will say it is a pretty pricey place though, so I'm not sure if it's really worth the high prices. It is good quality though.

I can't recommend SushiCo more. My Fiance and I have been going here over the past few years and it is easily our favorite Sushi spot in the Boston Area. We find ourselves coming back anytime we have an excuse to celebrate! The food is always so fresh and the specialty maki are always so creative. Some of our favorites include the South Side Roll, Citrus Summer Roll and Mambo Roll. You also can't go wrong with any of the standard maki. The staff is also always so kind, attentive and informative, which only enhances the experience every time!

Okay. White, New Englander named Alex opens a sushi restaurant in a random suburb of Boston. Recipe for mediocrity. But SushiCo is far from it. The sushi here is very fresh (Alex told me he got an order of snow crab that he sent back to the distributor because it didn't meet his quality standards). I love that he is creative. Doesn't cross the line to "fusion" per se, but definitely a good blend of Japanese (authentic to freshness, taste, presentation vs. what I've experienced in Japan) and American (thiccccc slices of fish). My tummy thanks you for opening in such a convenient location, while my bank account curses you Alex. What a neighborhood gem. A+ for service, quality, taste.

Excellent dinner at Sushico. A few points: * freshness is exceptional * flavors are outstanding especially the prepared foods or flavored sushi items but don't overlook the edamame with truffle oil * truly premium cut of fish available * very ample/large sushi portion sizes/cuts of fish * good vibe/ambience All in all and exceptional experience and look forward to returning and highly recommend

This is our second time returning! It's a 30 minute drive from us but we don't mind at all. The food is exceptionally fresh, and the fish is visibly vibrant as a result of it. Everything is tasty and remarkable quality. It's an intimate experience. You communicate with the chef for a reservation and chef Alex waits on your order. We ordered the Chef's Choice for two option 2 and it was amazing as anticipated. Some say the prices are high, I'd like to say they are pretty standard, considering a price for a special maki roll falls just under 20 dollars. 10/10! Will be back for more. Give it a try!

Good sushi, not just for Boston (an annoying but sometimes necessary qualifier). When it comes to sushi, I can be a bit of a purist, not a fan of garnishes and toppings, which to me feels like too much bells and whistles when you should let the quality of the fish shine on its own. The sushi here does have a lot going on, but there's attention paid to detail and making sure the flavors and textures work together, everything comes together really well. We came on the early side so were able to snag a table without a reservation, but recommend making one for Friday/weekend. Beautiful space - I couldn't stop staring at the giant mural of a fish. For starters, highly recommend the sesame noodles. They use a thin soba and not too much dressing, which I appreciate. Light, flavorful, a nice palette opener for all the fish you'll consume. Octopus salad was good (just wish there were more of it), with beautiful knife work in the cucumber on the side. Super impressive when chefs take such pride in the presentation. For my main, I got the 6-piece sashimi and the spicy tiger roll, but what I should have done was order more from the nigiri menu to try more pieces. We went with the special black cod and it was torched to perfection. Staff, including owner Alex, were all super nice! Lots of regulars, always a good sign. On a side note: love the staff t-shirts (do they sell those? There were neat stacks by our table), especially the one that had "More sushi, less drama," or something to that effect, on the back. Convenient location in Newton Centre, big metered parking lot close by (parking is free after 6).

What a gem this place is! The Spicy Yellowtail , Citrus Summer Roll, and Ora King Salmon with Mango rolls were perfect!! Great bar area, quiet dinner music in the background, and the service was very laid back but attentive. I'm so glad I found SushiCo.

A Sushi Dream Realized - Sushico in Newton Center is a Hidden Gem Worth Obsessing Over! If culinary nirvana exists, this is it!!!! This isn't your average spicy tuna roll operation. Sushico crafts each piece with the care of a sculptor and the soul of an artist. The service? Impeccable. Attentive without hovering. Friendly without pretense. They know their menu, and it shows. In a world full of sushi spots vying for attention, Sushico is in a league of its own. Newton Center, you're lucky to have this one.

    Yellowtail jalapeno - must get!
    Gloria H.

After some Yelp sleuthing for dinner in Newton, we settled on Sushico. The restaurant has a modern and elegant ambiance and friendly service. We got to try a variety of their dishes and I had some really tasty items. Must get - Yellowtail jalapeno - super fresh and tender melt-in-your-mouth fish, crunchy jalapeno, tasty sauce. Definitely one of my favorite crudos I've had in the past year. - Unnamed roll - I can't figure out what this roll was called (they might not sell it anymore), but it had tuna, chili crunch, and microgreens on top. It was my favorite roll that we tried! Flavors, textures, and fish were all on point. Good - Tuna with shiso - very tender tuna, fragrant shiso - Salmon avocado roll - fresh and tasty - King roll - very interesting combination of ingredients (salmon, avocado, mango, veggies) Meh - Sushi tacos - I was really looking forward to these after seeing them in reviews, but I wasn't a fan. The ceviche taco was sweet and didn't have much savory flavor, and the tuna taco didn't have much flavor. These could be okay dipped in soy sauce, but I think the other dishes we had were better. Overall, I loved the yellowtail jalapeno and the roll I can't remember the name of. The items are not cheap -- $8 for a miso soup? what's in it? -- but they clearly put a lot of care into sourcing their ingredients and are passionate about fish and sushi. Everything was fresh, yummy, and inventive. And it was more filling than I expected! I would love to come back and try more rolls and raw appetizers in the future.

Welcome to what is arguably the best sushi place in all of Boston. I know, you'll say, what about Fuji, Umami, Zuma, O Ya, Pabu, No Relation, etc. They're all good, but let me tell you why I like SushiCo best of all. There is absolutely nothing pretentious about this place, and I love that! The price is higher than your average quick hit sushi place, but you're paying for the excellent food. You can taste the difference in how it's carefully prepared. The owner, Alex, is out on the floor, going table to table and making conversation. You can tell this place is his baby. He told me a story about how they even refused to accept a fish that was packaged fresh but bent. The bending of the fish would impact the quality of the cuts. That's attention to detail! If you find things not available that night, it's typically because the fish/seafood did not meet the standard that Alex has for his ingredients. He also has a ridiculously good Spotify playlist, personally curated, that's piped into the restaurant. This is perhaps one of my favorite things about the place. It's fine dining quality in a bit more casual environment. They have paper menus for you to check-off your selections. That's really cool for a more upscale place, because it still sends a more casual signal. I love it. The place is super busy, but it's not crammed with people. They are very selective on the number of reservations they take. You will see empty tables that are waiting for reservations to show up. They're not stacking people in there and so the experience feels so much less rushed. You're not ushered to leave for the next reservation right on your heels. On to the food: When you order from the Nigiri menu, you're getting omakase style food. This isn't just a piece of fish slapped on rice, like your average place. You are getting a curated recipe, in which even the rice is done to Alex's standards, and the fish is brushed with sauce and/or topped with some element. This not only bolsters the presentation, but it definitely makes it taste so good. You are essentially picking your omakase... which I know goes against what the word means, but it's really cool to be able to do it. I highly suggest just going down that Nigiri list and ordering one of everything to make your own omakase experience, as the pieces are that quality level. The specialty rolls are incredible also. Again, you're getting high quality fish and varied flavors that give each one depth. Although they take great care with the soy sauce recipe, you will mostly find yourself not needing it. For some rolls I used it, but you don't need it for the Nigiri style fish. Of course there are more basic rolls. You can get your spicy tuna or salmon and avo rolls. I tend to avoid those, only because I fill up on the other great items in the menu. The menu also features a great selection of appetizers. I highly recommend the tuna or salmon tacos. The Tuna Sashimi appetizer was also incredible. I've been here 4 times already and still haven't tried everything, but it's so hard to stray from my favorites. OVERALL: This is a high quality experience with a casual undertone, but you can you tell Alex takes pride in his vision. He made the place what he wants, and I am a huge fan of it. This is a gem outside of Boston and my new favorite sushi place.

Even better, they have lots of unique fish for adventurous eaters, like sweet shrimp, clam, octopus, Uni, black cod, etc. I absolutely love getting to choose my cuts of fish, and the quality is incredible! You always remember your first, and while Shogun doesn't have the distinction of being the first piece of sushi I ever tried, it is the first sushi restaurant I was taken to when I asked my parents for more. I couldn't have known how lucky I was at the time. It's simple, friendly interior. The comfort of its space, small without being cramped, cozy without being claustrophobic. Years later, when I visited Japan for the first time, I would realize that it was simply authentically Japanese. And the sushi! I've been to Japan, I live in California, but to this day it is the standard to which I judge every piece of sushi I eat. The fish was always fresh and flavorful, the rice perfectly seasoned, and they had bar none the best spicy mayo I have ever tasted. Seriously, the spicy scallop gunkan was the greatest thing I have ever had the pleasure to eat. If you never ordered the spicy tuna salad appetizer, I am so sorry you missed out. This brings us to the real heart of Shogun for me: Ito-San. Jiro may dream of sushi, but I dream of Ito-san's sushi. From the first moment I stepped in the door in the mid 90's to the last time I was able to stop by in 2023, Ito was there. The incredible kindness he showed me for nearly 3 decades of my life is not to be undersold. As he watched me go through countless milestones in my own life, he also shared his and his families own. Even if his sushi was lousy he would have still been one of my favorite people on this planet. But of course, his sushi was top class. This is starting to feel like a eulogy, and as far as I know no one has died. But something has been lost. Perhaps to you it was just a restaurant. But to me, Shogun Sushi was a revelation, and an institution, and a place of intense nostalgia. Knowing I can never go back is deeply saddening. At the same time, I sincerely wish Ito-San and the rest of the staff a well earned retirement. If any of you are reading this, I hope you know that every time I eat sushi I will be thinking of your restaurant, and everything it meant to me.
