it was okay, service was good, atmosphere was chill. I enjoyed the food... but i didn't feel great after it, overall not bad, but my stomach is regretting it.

Gari is very reliable for good sushi. The online ordering is pretty efficient and is usually ready right away. The menu is vast and there are great appetizers and entrees. Every once and a while the sushi won't be as great but usually it's pretty consistent. It's not an upscale sushi restaurant but it does the trick. Would definitely recommend for a takeout option. Great local business!

This is a pretty solid spot to grab a bite of sushi. We ordered online and pick-up was easy since they have a small little takeout window to pass along your food. We ordered 4 different maki rolls including oyster katsu, idaho (sweet potato), eel avo, and mango shrimp. It was the first time I have had oyster in sushi form and it definitely was interesting taste and came with fish roe on top. The mango shrimp was refreshing since the mango was sweet and paired well with the shrimp. On Sundays they do maki madness where you can choose from a variety of 20 different maki rolls for each just $5.75, but you'll need to pay with cash to get the discount. The idaho and eel avo was pretty standard, so overall a good place to get your sushi fix!

Chef special vegetarian roll ( Mango topped roll) & Celtic's roll. Both delicious!

Came here tonight with my husband and daughter. It was around 7pm and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Nice, clean place with a warm ambiance. Service was friendly and fast. The food was very reasonably priced and very tasty. Love all the vegetarian options too. We just moved to Needham this week and we already have a new go-to place! So happy we stopped in!

Love this place! Sunday's are 5.25 maki rolls (any type) but you have to pay in cash for that. Otherwise, it's regular price and they accept credit/debit. They have fisherman's platter (fried seafood), sushi, udon noodles, lots of good food! The price is pretty good and the sushi was great! Wasn't busy at all and the waitress was so nice!

Sushi and sashimi plate (about $25)

Overall, a positive first experience. Service was excellent. We got a friendly greeting as soon as we walked in and were seated immediately. Even though we were a party of two, they gave us a table for four, and I always appreciate the extra space and distance from other patrons. Our waitress was very attentive and the food was served quickly. Granted it was a Wednesday night and they weren't very busy. The ambiance is modern and nice enough. The restaurant has a variety of tables and half-booth type seating as well as a bar. They have a full bar but limited beer selection. Just the usual Japanese brands, such as Sapporo, plus Sam Adams. The food was good but not amazing. The pork gyoza and chicken wings were very tasty as appetizers. The tempura udon has great tempura but the udon was just so-so. We ordered a sushi/sashimi combo plate and some of the fish, such as the salmon, was very fresh and delicious. Some of the other fish tasted a little dry and like it had been frozen for a while. I find this is pretty typical of suburban sushi restaurants, which don't sell enough of the less popular varieties to keep it super fresh. I will be back for sure, especially given the good service. I think the trick is to find the right dishes here. I will start with the gyoza and try some of their maki next time.

Gari is always my go to on Sundays for take out dinner. Always very fresh and tasty. Staff is very friendly and ordering online is very easy. I love it.

We came here last night for a holiday work dinner, with a reservation for 12 people. The set up of…read morethe grills made the seating awkward as we filled the chairs around the grill (8) but then had 4 people in a row taking over a little of the other one (even though it was not in use). We started by ordering drinks and 3 rolls of sushi. I didn't get their names since we just told them to bring out their best ones, which I think they interpreted as best sellers. All were very delicious, and the presentation was lovely. We all chose to do the hibachi; with some combination of filet mignon, chicken, steak, shrimp, or scallops. They started with making the rice, followed by the noodles (optional but $4 more per person), then the meat, and later the vegetables. They got everyone's order correctly and did a fantastic job of rationing the portions so that everyone got about the same. They also performed all the tricks including the eggs toss, the onion volcano /train, and tossing food / liquids into people's mouths. I found that because they make everything separate, my rice and noodles were cold by the time my meat and veggies were ready. It's a blessing and curse that you can see them cook in front of you. Blessing because you know how your food is being handled and can see the freshness of it, but a curse because you realize all your food is being cooked with the same "seasonings"/sauces. I personally thought it was a bit bland, but everything tasted fresh. The yum yum sauce was initially sweet, but after that, I couldn't pin point the flavor. Overall, it was a good time. Food quality I would say 3 stars, but ambiance and service is 4.5 stars. I think it's a good setting for corporate events. We didn't get any, but upon request it seems like they were blowing up little reindeer antler head bands. When we paid, they also gave us a gift card to use at a future visit which was nice.

This rude staff member told my niece she had a party of 10 at the bar who was waiting for this table so we should go, and then proceeded to hand everyone a takeout box! No one was offered another drink or allowed to finish eating. She stacked new plates onto our area so she could set the table! Our bill with tip was $850 plus we tipped both chefs $50 each!!! I am disgusted! They knew it was a special birthday and she was plain nasty!!!

The restaurant shares an entryway with an apartment rental realty business, which is already a bit weird from the point of view of atmosphere. I almost missed the door to the restaurant because it's in a corner, and there were several delivery boxes of takeout containers waiting to be taken in, almost blocking the doorway. If I had been in a wheelchair, I wouldn't have been able to get through the door. I mentioned this to the front desk staff and the boxes were gone before I left. My plan was to eat at the bar. It turned out that there was a large party hanging out at the bar before sitting down at the large central table, so the only room for me was at the very edge of the bar. However, the bartender was nice and got me a menu, and they did eventually sit down so I got a little more space. My cocktail (pomegranate old-fashioned) was excellent. So was my turmeric tandoori salmon. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio, which was very reasonably priced for Brookline. I was not thrilled by the cardamom chocolate tart: the chocolate was liquid, inside a stale-tasting shell. Overall, it has potential and I'll probably come back. I'll call in advance to ask about large parties, and I'll avoid the chocolate tart unless I'm assured that it's changed.

I had really been looking forward to trying this place and was finally able to on Valentines Day…read more The decoration was adorable and I'm pretty sure they were booked out for the evening. There was a great singer, pianist, and sax player to really set the mood. They were super fun, especially when a couple got engaged! To start, I got their ginger martini and while my friend went with a Do-er neat (not a whiskey drinker myself, lol). He tried to order 2 of their beers but they were out of both. My drink came after 15 mins and then we had to remind the waiter about his whiskey. That took another 10. We started with the chicken bao buns and the samosas. Both spectacular! My only complaint is the little size for the samosa size. For our mains we got the short rib and the white butter chicken. The butter chicken could've used a bit more chicken for the price and was frankly a bit tough. The sauce was great. The short rib was flavorful and packed the perfect punch. Dipping the garlic naan in both sauces was my fav part!! Overall an ok experience. I want to give the restaurant grace because it was very packed but service was poor. I think we had 4 different staff members help us total which probably led to lots of miscommunication.

Two weekend visits to this relatively new subterranean Sichuan eatery in Harvard Square (Eliot…read moreStreet) with a very inviting interior and some VERY spicy dishes. -- Vegetarian Cold Noodle: Firm, peanut buttery, satisfying. Not spicy. Not too saucy, so you can "feel" the noodle, but I would have liked more vegetables. -- Yibin Fiery Noodles: Warm and similarly al dente, these were manageably spicy. Meat crumble, seeds or nuts, scallions, and heat. -- Red and Green Pepper Chicken: Batterless but crisp, tender, and not boneless. Relentlessly spicy from several heat sources and kaleidoscopically delicious. The closest comparison is dry hot chicken that also goes by a few other names, but this was better. Elite, and the best thing I ate in all of 2025, but sadly no longer on the menu. -- Stone Pot Tofu: Billed as Ma Po Tofu sizzling in a stone pot, but no sizzle and no stone pot. Identified as very spicy but minimally spicy and more numbing (more "ma" than "la"). I enjoyed the overall flavor (heavily seasoned) and the saltiness of the fermented black beans. Despite some of the menu discrepancies, this was a really good version for my tastes. Near-elite. -- Green Beans With Eggplant: Strong flavor, not too hot spicewise, but volcanically hot temperaturewise. Decent. -- Chicken and Clams: Black bean flavor, whole peppercorns, spicy but loaded with flavor beyond the spice. A deceptively huge and quite delicious. Elite. -- Beef Spring Rolls: Not my choice. Crisp, beefy, and chili sauce on the side added contrast. Solid, but boring, more typical of an Americanized offering, and a waste of an opportunity given Too Hot's killer menu. -- Pork Belly with Fermented Beans: Superb rendition, not drastically different from twice cooked pork, but much more flavor and giant pieces. Near-elite to Elite. -- Shrimp in Dry Hot Pot: Tons of dry rub spiciness, giant shrimp, chopped vegetables, and crinkle cut potatoes. Near-elite. -- Brussels Sprouts w/Shallots: More subtle flavors here but hardly bland. Fried shallots had sort of an onion ringy presence in miniature. Cooked just right. Outstanding overall experience, with the best dish on the first visit and almost all winners on the second. Kudos to the friendly and helpful service, including a server suggestion to switch an item after noticing we ordered two very similar items. Eager to return often and try even more of the menu.

Interior felt very modern and sleek - it was a bit small as well so it was a little cramped between tables and walking areas. The menu had a good selection of szechuan fare and we ended up sharing some of their popular dishes. I enjoyed the large fish one which was a good size for a family. Everything tasted authentic, my only qualm was paying for rice - you can't not have rice and it seems ridiculous to pay $3 for one bowl. Overall, a solid restaurant and option for Chinese food in Harvard Square.
