4/5 Stars - Visited August 2, 2026 I stopped by Tama Asian Fusion Sushi & Bar in Natick and had another enjoyable meal. We started with the Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna and Salmon Carpaccio, both of which were excellent appetizers and a great way to begin the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the Chirashi, while our table also shared the Spider Roll, Money Roll, and Volcano Roll. Overall, I thought the sushi was the highlight of the experience. The fish tasted fresh, the rolls were well prepared, and each had its own unique flavor. If you're visiting Tama for the first time, I'd recommend focusing on the sushi menu. I have tried their hibachi platter on a previous visit, and while it was decent, it didn't stand out nearly as much as the sushi offerings. The service was friendly, and the restaurant has a comfortable atmosphere that's great for a casual lunch or dinner with friends and family. I'd definitely come back whenever I'm in the Natick area, especially for the sushi rolls. I'm also looking forward to checking out their new Canton location to see how it compares. If you're deciding between the hibachi and the sushi, my recommendation is easy stick with the sushi. That's where Tama really shines. read more

2 stars is generous but maybe they're still figuring things out -- Oga was much better tbh. Tama seems confused as to who they are and who they're competing with (their hibachi entrees are just sautéed PF Changs style dishes that aren't prepared tableside, the chopstick wrappers say ramen next to the name but the menu has no ramen, etc.). If I had to describe Tama it would be a combination of Panda Express + PF Changs + Sarku mall court + Cathay Pacific in Quincy. Not an "upscale" place, no idea why so many reviews say that (dim lighting and overcharging don't mean upscale). Friendly staff, quick seating. Food ranges from forgettable (spare rib appetizer is $15-$20 for 3 ribs with a supposed yuzu sauce that's basically too much soy sauce with five star spice) to weird (pad Thai with chicken was like Chinese rice noodles doused in duck sauce and topped with rubbery Panda Express chicken). The gyoza/fried dumplings were fine / assume they're the reheated premade ones you get frozen. read more

We love Tama!! I think we've probably been 8 times over the last few months and we've never had a bad meal. Photos are from several different trips. My sister and I got the Tokyo cocktail, scallion pancakes, Wagyu truffle salt nori tacos, money roll, and patriot roll - TASTE: 5/5 - favorites were the patriot roll, w its sweet mango and truffle yuzu sauce, and the Tokyo cocktail -- such a refreshing passionfruit mimosa! Service was superb! The interior is redesigned from previous restaurant, Oga, which was also sushi. Tama is a bit more upscale than most sushi places. Not on the level of the highest in Boston, but it's a bit more pricey than your standard rolls spot. They have this smaller Nori taco style options, which you can see pictured in my review. Very good bites and they come in pairs, so it's perfect if you want to sample some with another person. The Nigiri was good quality. The salmon and hamachi were stand outs. Avoid the Uni. It's not good. I assume it's Maine Uni or just off season, but other reviews cited the same. Appetizers were so good. Highly recommend you pick 4-5 things from the appetizer menu for your table and then finish off with Nori tacos or Nigiri. The menu is pretty large, so you won't have trouble finding something. Parking can be a challenge given it's a strip mall with one row long row. The place is located right on Rte 9 and close to the Natick Mall. Overall, I will likely return. read more

I came to Tama for the first time last night for dinner. We were greeted and seated immediately. I was excited to see how the space was decorated after replacing Oga and was impressed with how grand the space looks. There were special holiday decorations which made the space feel especially cozy. I ordered the Roku Bloom cocktail and my husband ordered the Sakura Spring - we both thought the drinks were well-balanced and delicious. As for food, we went with an order of the salt and pepper wings, the snow crab and butter tacos, eel avocado maki, crazy maki, rainbow maki, and the Tama maki. The standout roll for us was the Tama maki. We also could tell that all of the raw fish was very fresh. My husband is also an avid lover of fried chicken and was commenting on how great the chicken was both in flavor and in cook. The menu is heavily geared towards sushi (aside from the hibachi of course) so if you're looking for more general Japanese entrees like noodle dishes or soups, you should look elsewhere. Great upscale spot to hang out with friends! They got a vast bar and nice seating area. Great sushi roll and hand roll options, which they call nori tacos. We really enjoyed the shiso squid and snow crab with butter nori tacos, and the patriot roll! These were our favorites. The rolls can be a bit expensive, but they are quite unique. The patriot role had the truffle Yuzu sauce with spicy salmon and fatty tuna, which is something to not miss out on. Most of the sashimi was pretty fresh as well! I personally would not order the tuna again, but the salmon, yellowtail and the other sashimi were very delicious and fresh~ love their quick and amazing service as well. New sushi spot to replace Ogas which was my favorite... tough shoes to fill! They renovated the inside and made the atmosphere moodier and more intimate, low lighting and dark colors. I think it's very fancy looking and they did a great job. The food is really delicious and high quality. They really fill the rolls with the fish - they don't use rice as a cheap filler. Super tasty rolls; I really loved the spicy salmon roll because it had a great tempura texture crunch. Can't complain about anything! They offer sushi "tacos", also a fun fusion dish. This was probably the worst sushi I've veer had. We did take out and everything was old, not fresh, and tasted so bland. The shrimp tempura was cold and felt like it was fried yesterday. The tuna had a weird pink color, didnt look fresh at all and was tough to chew. Even the seaweed salad was not fresh and not tasty. The salmon roll didnt have any taste whatsoever, it could have been a roll of anything. This is the second time we picked out from this rest and the quality got significantly worse. Drove past this street today and realized I never shared my thoughts about this place! I'd heard about it so many times from friends--we were all big fans of the Oga --so I finally tried it a few days ago. Tried the sushi and "hibachi" today. Big disappointment. Here are some highlights: 1. Found a fishbone in my sushi. I realized this when I felt a stabbing pain in my mouth as I was chewing. 2. Uni tacos were "sold out" and asked me if i want uni sushi instead. Later clarified it wasn't sold out and there was a price mistake and they subbed in uni sushi that cost more than the tacos pre-price error and wouldn't honor the original price. $15 vs $24 bait and switch. They tried to explain the situation to me and asked me if it would be ok. I told them it's up to them to use their judgement here. They pocketed the money without a second thought. 3. "hibachi" is made who knows where. not in front of you thats for sure. beef was room temp. lobster was room temp. gross. 4. still or sparkling water offered. no mention of tap. still water is $8. surprise! I really wanted this place to be good since it's just a few minutes from my home but unfortunately it's a big let down in terms of food quality. 1. Fuji mountain, their take on what is often called spicy tuna salad elsewhere. The tempura crumbs were stale! It came out first. It gave the impression that it was premade and covered in plastic sitting in a fridge. The fish in it truly looked like cut offs. And what is worse, came with a bone in a salmon piece. Other places don't use cut offs and make it nice but it felt like they just mushed together leftover sashimi and covered it in some stale tempura crumbs and mayo. Don't order this you'll be disappointed. 2. Hibachi. This is not made table side. They can't seem to make the food at the same time. The steak was cold/room temp. The lobster was cold/room temp. the vegetables were warm. How? Their hibachi must be the smallest hibachi in existence. Less than half a cup of fried rice. lol. honestly bewildering. 3. Uni is bland and previously frozen. Texturally off. Worse than hmart uni. Sushi rice with the uni was unseasoned. Surprisingly the only good food I had here was the house side salad that comes with the hibachi and the Japanese mixed fries. Unfortunately even in the fries i found a few that were undercooked and soggy but the ones that were made well did taste good. Salad has a nice dressing and greens looked fresh. I don't see this place succeeding. I've had better food from a mall food court. This isn't so much a matter of being over priced but the food is just not that great. Cold hibachi food? Fishbones in sushi? I wanted to give 2* because our waitress was nice but it was offset by the manager weaseling $9 on the uni taco disaster situation. They rather have $9 now than a repeat customer that spends over $50pp. Very poor judgment on their part. There's so much shadiness and red flags in terms of upcharging. I don't think they care about having repeat customers. They will just fool old Oga patrons while they can. So many better options around less than five minutes away To quote my wife, "I feel like we've just thrown our money away". Whoops--probably won't be coming back. read more

Mediocre sushi at best. Would have gave 1 star but bumped it up because presentation was pretty and nice decor. Service was poor and took over 50 minutes from order time until the sushi reached us. It was just the 2 of us so not a large order. I would have really loved to make this our go-to sushi im town but I can't justify the premium sushi price for the lack of quality of sashimi amd sushi. It was comparable to buffet grade sushi, so I was very disappointed. I miss Oga's! On a side note, we didn't get hibachi and there were no hibachi tables. It looked like from other people's orders, they cook the food in the kitchen and then bring out the hibachi dishes. I think that's a huge miss if your going here for hibachi. read more

Tried Tama for the first time yesterday. We used to go to Oga all the time so we were curious about the restaurant that moved into their space. The restaurant is similar to Oga, dark but comfortable. We tried a few rolls and appetizers. The tuna tasted so fresh!! The Bao Buns (Pork Buns) were delicious. We're going to go back to try the hibachi! Service was great! Friendly and attentive. I finally got a chance to check out Tama and I'm so glad I did. I forgot to ask our servers name, but she was so nice, funny and gave us excellent service. We came in around 1:30pm and were given both lunch and dinner menus. We both ordered off the dinner menu and everything we ordered was delicious; the sushi was good quality and very fresh. I ordered my son a hibachi lunch to go and even that was a good size portion, and he also said it was delicious. I will be back soon! read more

First of all, when I walked in, the lighting was perfect and the booths are really comfy. The host seated us no problem and our waitress served us immediately. So far, we were enjoying our time. Our waitress continued to fill our glasses of water when they weren't full to the top. The plates were perfectly placed on the table and the chopsticks were nice quality being double sided. When we got the food, it was plated nicely and looked amazing. We got the crab rangoon, Tama roll, Hawaii roll, and the Sakura roll. All amazing! Drove here from Manchester, CT and was not disappointed. Can't say enough about the great service the waitstaff provided. The food was excellent. I'm not a sushi person but, presentation of the Sushi was a photo moment. From what I understand the taste was just as good. Can't say enough about the appetizers. If you want some recommendations Crab Rangoon, Pan-Fried Dumplings don't pass on the Pork Short Ribs although I thought they were just Pork Ribs (expected something different) but still too tasty to pass up. General Tso's Chicken was the best I have had in a while. As a point of interest, I use the condition of the Men's Room a guide to how they keep the kitchen. The Restroom was immaculate. So, if you live locally or don't mind traveling, don't let the strip mall location fool you. This place is the plan to go for a great meal. read more

We were long-time fans of Tama's predecessor restaurant Oga, Tama's a nice upgrade with same terrific service and even better food. Busy Saturday night, but we were seated right away at our reservation time. Restaurant was lively with couples, families, & groups but easy to have a conversation. Our server Melina walked us through the menu with helpful suggestions. Living in Tokyo taught us the value of good sushi & sashimi. It also made us skeptical of 'pan Asian' restaurants that try to be everything to everyone from such a diverse continent. With that in mind: Tama does a surprisingly good job bridging Chinese and Japanese. We started with shrimp shumai and yellowtail jalapeño sashimi. Both were excellent, especially the yellowtail. For dinner we had tuna and salmon sushi, and two maki [rolls:] spicy girl & a fire ball. Rolls were delicious and generously sized- no room for desert. With $20 tip, our total was $110 for the 2 of us; a bargain for world class sushi and service. We'll be back. read more

And when you order, pay attention to details, the sashimi is by piece not by order like I'm used to, so when you order one, you'll get one pice of sashimi. Not really their fault thou. We were curious about the replacement for our late, lamented restaurant in this location, Oga's, and were pleasantly surprised. The decor is now more sophisticated and elegant. Service was prompt and courteous. Lunch was reasonably priced. The sushi was fresh and tasty, and my companion enjoyed his spicy dumplings and shrimp vegetable tempura. I tried a Japanese soda, which came in an oddly shaped bottle with a glass marble bobbing (carefully) inside - would not bother again with that. Sunday afternoon my cape cod grandchildren and Gramma went to Tamu for Sushi! The Five of us truly enjoyed a great dining experience and very good food! For years we went to beloved Oga's and now were ready to love Tama! We were not disappointed, everything was topnotch and delicious and the service is wonderful.
