Stopped in for lunch. Ordered a lunch special of chicken teriyaki, boneless ribs, egg roll, pork fried rice. Ordered appetizer of pork dumplings pan fried .. Fresh , and good value . The egg roll was excellent and nice crisp crunch, ingredients fresh and had a nice flavor. The chicken teriyaki was one of best I have had elsewhere. It was marinated and velvet tender. I assume a curry marinade maybe as was tasty. Boneless ribs were over cooked and reheated as shown in my picture. The pork fried rice was loaded with diced pork . The pork dumplings were fresh ingredients, but the dumpling exterior shells was the too hard shell type vs a soft noodle type. But the pork dumplings were excellent ingredients. It was as excellent lunch and priced fair and reasonable. read more

A neighborhood Asian fusion joint in Natick serving both Chinese and Japanese. I was with stellar company. So I will admit that my attention to the details of my food was less than it could have been. One of the privileges of being a Yelp reviewer is that when the people you are eating with are boring, You can tune them out using the excuse that you are thinking about what you are going to say for your Yelp review. This has been a lifesaver for me more times than I can count. There was no need for this in Natick where the people I was with were amazing. That said - we did eat food. In this case food off the Chinese side of the menu. Everything was good. There are probably at least 200 places you can get American Chinese like this in the Greater Boston area. But there is no need to pass on Shanghai and Tokyo looking for something else. They are completely reliable. read more

We loved the food, but the ambience left more to be desired. The booth we sat on was wood with no cushions! By the time we were finished our meal, my back was in pain! We also had a hard time with parking. I think a lot of people get the food to go, but instead of parking @ the Dunks next door (15min is allowed!), the pick up orders park at the restaurant! read more

Been going to here for the past 20 years. The food is consistent, and the menu has a good selection. My go-tos were Spring roll (cabbage is nice and crunchy, no nonsense filler), Salmon skin maki, crazy maki, dragon maki, and egg-drop soup. Shanghai Tokyo is such a nice environment. Friendly staff and short wait times for food since it's a relatively small restaurant. They have great orange chicken and their sushi is pretty fresh. Recommend coming later at night or on a less busy day because when busy the wait can get very long since they only have 1-2 wait staff. read more

We ordered takeout delivery from Shanghai Tokyo and we were pleased. Lo mein, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, Kung pao chicken, spring rolls and orange chicken. Very pleasant person took our order and it arrived 20 minutes later. The order was correct, and the food was excellent. No one had any complaints or suggestions. For sushi in Natick, this place is pretty good. They have a lot of good options and good prices as well. It's perfect for takeout or a pretty cute place to sit inside as well. Whenever I go I always get sushi, but they also have awesome lo mein and other noodles. Their appetizers are yum as well. I love their thick lo mein noodles. Wow. This place just went above and beyond. I picked up our order and noticed an order or maki was missing. Not only did the restaurant call us to tell us they forgot it, but they drove it out to my home. Customer service that went really above and beyond. The food was pretty tasty and they seem to use nice fresh produce. I will be back. read more

They are always friendly and the food is consistent. I think their sushi is very fresh and tasty. The vegetables in the dishes are also very fresh. Some of our favorites are seaweed salad, vegetable spring rolls, and tofu broccoli. It's one of my favorite takeout places, but it's clean and cute inside too. read more

After 15 years of feeling sorry for business owners I think sometimes restuarants do not respect their customers. Last week the fried rice was delicious and I thought wow, maybe it will get better at Shaghai Tokyo! Bought Pork Fried Rice last night and it was inedible and did not smell good bringing it home.Rice was hard and did not taste good, like a burnt wok taste. So sad, I wanted to cry becasue for so many years try to be positive. There simply is no reason not to expect delicious Pork Fried rice,every time for a home town Chinese Restuarant the only one in town! They should be good, really good!I think local restuarnts hit new lows that are tolerated by the locals. Some times they act intimidating, by being crabby or grouchy, so you will be afraind to complain; I am tired of makingexcuses for crappy or disappointing food. Shanghai Tokyo is easily the best Chinese/Japanese restaurant and sushi bar in the area. The portion sizes are generous, well-cooked, and extremely tasty. Indoor dining room is very clean and has a nice atmosphere, and take out is quick and easy! I called in a medium sized order this past Father's Day and it was ready in just 20 minutes! I do not go anywhere else for Chinese/Japanese food in the area, and when I travel, most places cannot measure up to the quality, taste, and speed of Shanghai Tokyo. read more

I said to the waitress we came in at 2.45 and this order was a continuation of our meal which began before the lunch specials ended and they should honor the special .The owner a Chinese nan with. long hair came over and refused to HONOR the selling of the special . So my guest ordered chicken and cashew with no vegetables with a side order of white rice .The waitress said if you do not take the Chiken cashew without vegetables there won't be enough chicken in the dish .YOU CANT MAKE THIS STORY UP .. Again the owner comes over and tells us ...We do not sell the chicken cashew without vegetables!!!!! WILL AT DOUBLE THE PRICE .I said but it says chicken and cashew no mention of vegetables.His response was I will get FIRED if I sell it with no vegetables I know he is the owner Chinese man with the long hair I saiid who is going to fire you I know you are the owner . Anyway we paid for the soup and egg roll and left I WILL NEVER GO IN THERE AGAIN and my advice is stay away from this place If they are that cheap what else do they put in the food or not put in the food to cheapen it ! This restaurant serves Japanese and Chinese food. The food was mediocre. Because of this, the food here is quite expensive for what it is worth. It isn't anything to go crazy for or make a special trip for. I would suggest going to Needham to eat more authentic Taiwanese food and to Waltham for Chinese food. The thing I liked about this restaurant is that the service time is very fast, just like any Chinese restaurant. They throw lemon as garnish in everything. The Pad Thai was "absolutely disgusting/unedible." We ordered from work so ordered ALOT of food. I called and said "I could return the two orders of Pad Thai" that show we both individually took like two bites. The extremely rude woman said, "that this is their recipe" and that "no they don't want it back because they can't do anything with it." I told her "well theirs nothing we can do with this either!!!" She RELUCTANLTY to offer the "discount of 50% off ONLY ONE OF THESE PAD THAI'S for OUR NEXT ORDER." I was taken aback when I first tried their sushi. I used to order Chinese food growing up there and always assumed their sushi wouldn't be good for some reason. However, I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and it was fantastic! I love their shrimp tempura, California, and spicy tuna rolls. I will say though that I am no longer a fan of their crab Rangoon. I used to order their crab Rangoon, gyoza, and house fried rice years ago when I was in high school and middle school. It was my favorite Chinese spot. I believe they have changed the recipe for their crab rangoons and I am just underwhelmed by them now. I have yet to see if they have changed their recipe for the house fried rice and gyoza, but I hope not because they were really tasty. read more

I'd give it 1/2 star if I could. This restaurant used to have quality food. I have dined-in and purchased take-out across 10 years but hadn't been here for about 3 years. What happened?? It was awful. Expensive for fast food type of service and quality. My friend ordered shrimp with lobster sauce. It was vile. We couldn't eat it. When the server asked us if we wanted to take it home and we said no, she wasn't even curious to know if we liked it. The white rice was cold. The spring roll looked like it was made by a 6 year old. Very loosely wrapped with brown lettuce. I'm thrilled that I didn't get food poisoning so there's that. I wish Natick would get a higher quality of restaurants. This one needs to go. read more

I've always enjoyed ordering from this place. The food is great and the restaurant itself is very clean, but last time I placed an order, my experience was absolutely terrible. When I got home, I noticed that an item was missing (Crab Rangoon), so I called back to see if could swing by and pick it up. The employee was rude and accused me of being a dishonest customer. They eventually let me pick up my missing item, but the whole experience really turned me off so I probably won't be ordering form them anytime soon. Such a shame! read more
