I have been a customer for years but the quality and content of the food has been going downhil for a while now. The most recent order of Seafood delight contained a few small not jumbo shrimp, hardly any scallops and rubbery crab meat with lots of broccoli and whatever else. Just horrible. The appetizer of pan fried pork ravioli were overcooked and hard. The previous order of Empress Sweet and Sour delight contained a few shrimp but mostly it was a lot of fried chicken fingers which was mostly dough. Angry at myself for going back again. Fast service but not great quality food. Expensive for what you get. For example, in their string beans and beef dish the green beans were too stringy and chewy. Stir fried entrees smothered in sauce. Scallion pancake was tough and chewy also. Yang chow fried rice was like a 3/10 compared to a real restaurant in say Chinatown, but even compared to other suburban Chinese food restaurants where you might not expect the freshest ingredients it was still mid. read more

My family has ordered here for years- I now live in nyc but whenever I am home I make sure we get take out from mandarin cafe. No Chinese take-out has even come CLOSE to this place. The dumplings are some of my favorites - and the chicken with cashews is unmatched. Three stars rating is based on food provided. This is more of a generic Cantonese Americanized Chinese restaurant, growing up in China myself, I'd say the food does not really stand out. There are a lot other Cantonese restaurants that's way better than this one. General Gao's chicken is so far our favorite, which Is a typical American Chinese dish - we would rate it five stars. I have to say this we have loved Mandarin cafe for years. They are in our neighborhood but to deliver our food 257 feet and charge 4.00 I won't be going back. I know COVID is hitting hard but that delivery fee is excessive and I would have tipped highly had they not charged a four dollar delivery fee. You want four bucks and a tip? We didn't have to wait very long at all for the food. We ordered General Gao's, some kind of mixed vegetables in some kind of sauce and chicken fried rice. It was all pretty good. Nothing over the top awesome, but it was all pretty solid. Nothing was overly greasy or heavy. I like the General Gao a lot and the fried rice was pretty good, too. We were pleasantly surprised by the portions - they were huge. There was enough to feed 3-4 people easily on what we thought would be adequate for 2. Following my usual rules, a restaurant automatically loses two stars for not getting my order right, as I believe order accuracy is critical. The food here is very average. The beef teriyaki was inedible. Raw, and very chewy. The fried rice was the lighter fried rice, which isn't my favorite, as I am a bigger fan of the darker fried rice. The vegetables in my dish were slightly over cooked, which made them borderline inedible as well. First of all the food is very fresh, second no msg, next the pupu platter for two is a generous portion and the price reasonable, off the beaten path a little but easy to park out front and have always had a good experience here, they will bring the order out to the car and are complying with masks etc when I was there. Worlds worst customer service I've ever had in a restaurant. They are constantly making mistakes like sending shrimp when chicken was ordered and can NEVR admit they did anything wrong. The owner will engage in a screaming match rather then just say she's sorry. Rude beyond belief. I don't know why I put up with their disgusting treatment all these years.
