Really enjoyed this coffee spot. The lady at the front was extremely welcoming and gave me an overview of the entire place, which was nice for a first-timer. I also received a punch card because I'll definitely be back. The atmosphere is very relaxing and cozy. There are huge windows in the front that allow natural light, which I appreciate. The first floor is spacious with desks and chairs, which allow a good amount of working space for people to sit with their laptops and work. There's an outdoor patio with circuits, which is ALWAYS appreciated; not many coffee shops have plugs outside. There's also an upstairs that has a ping pong table and other chairs! I had tea and the lemon blueberry scone. The scone was so good, and just what I needed. I didn't try the coffee this time, but I definitely will next time. They also have a happy hour from 5pm - 7pm on beer and wine, but don't offer alcohol before 5pm. Overall, an amazing coffee shop, may be one of my favorites in the DC area. read more

Perfect work spot- quiet, low key, coffee and alcohol so you can double fist stimulants and depressives. Wifi is free and speedy and they don't patrol your time. The clientele is perfect - they're not chatty and loud like in other coffee shops in the area where it's impossible to find a seat. There's an unpretentious vibe where it doesn't like yet another trendy spot in the city to gather but a place for dc residents to unwind a bit even if they're getting work done. Also if I could give bonus stars, they use ceremony coffee beans from Annapolis which I adore because theres a million storefronts in the area but very few actually celebrate local food and culture (carrying dc brau does not count.) read more

This is one lovely little (actually, not so little) spot on the border between Columbia Heights and the less-known Park View. What stands out the most about this coffee shop is its expansive outdoors patio in the back, with lots and lots of benches and tables. Their wifi even reaches into this space, even if only weakly. The staff are friendly and laid back. The ambiance is marked by young folks (seem to be a mix of grad students, young Hill staffers, etc.) here for a cafe atmosphere while working. In the evening the scene turns from coffee shop to bar'ish. But I'm less familiar with the offerings later in the day. read more

Let me begin by saying... I didn't get the comprehensive experience. I didn't try the food. I got my coffee to go. But! It was good and I definitely look forward to coming back again. The atmosphere is super clean, modern and minimalistic. Even the drinks. My girlfriend and I both had iced lattes, one almond and one with soy milk. This is an oft overlooked place smack in the middle of Georgia Ave between Irving and Columbia. In fact, you would have absolutely no idea this place existed if it weren't for yelp or the strangely white colored lights shining through the front window. If you're in the hood, you may want to consider skipping Reynolds and Bravo and coming here as a nice getaway. The service is absolutely on point and the environment, well if you are an OCD clean freak, you'll feel right at home. Seriouslly, this place is the cleanest bar I've been too - while still maintaining a somewhat homey/comfertable vibe to talk to. On Thursdays you get live jazz night and the cocktails are discounted from $10 to $8. Great beer selection with several high octane options, and overall well priced. I've only been here for cocktails and hanging out at night, so disregard my review if you're looking for insight on the edibles here. Bonus points for ping pong upstairs :) read more

Very trendy hip, ping pong table having coffee spot! Nestled in the diverse GA Avenue regions of NW DC, this spot is a great place for working (bring your own WiFi though cause the network gets crowded). Very good coffee! I'm bummed they only have one size but it's worth it and relatively inexpensive for the quality. Parking is not too bad but it may be because of the time I came (12:30 PM). They apparently have a bar in the evening and I'm sure it gets lively around that time but it was pretty chill otherwise. I also came on a Friday so I'm sure not too many people were concerned with work then haha. Love the place and I'll refinery be back! Oh and they have an upstairs too that's pretty decent real estate for having a catch up date or chat with girlfriends. read more

A great place to come for coffee in the morning/afternoon and drinks in the evening. They have a huge patio in the back which is awesome in the warmer months. They're very accommodating of big parties (especially when the patio is open). They have both sparkling and still water on tap and a killer selection of ciders. Oh snap, I found it. My coffee shop. Ok, not all mine, I'm cool with sharing. A low key place with high key goodness. The coffee is great, the bacon breakfast sandwich is a lot more filling than it looks, and it goes from day to night for me without me needing to change clothes. (No, really, I could be there studying all day and come 5pm, the espresso machine is closed and the bar is open signifying time for me to stop doing work). There's not a ton of space, but it's kosher. When you do find a spot, wherever it is, it's always good. read more

Always regret coming here, but sometimes it's on my way and I really want a coffee. I've ended up here almost a dozen times, and all except one has been similar. I have to wonder if they're even open. There are people at the tables, but nobody seems to be taking new orders. The people behind the counter, when there are people behind the counter, just look at me and walk away. I have money in my hand, excited to order a coffee, and they walk away. No words, just a glare and a dismissal. It seems like they put all of their effort into fancy counters & backsplashes and had no effort left for customer service. And the espresso is really watery. All these Yelpers can't be wrong! Staying not too far away I was jonesing for a coffee and a bite. Lo and behold a coffee shop just a short walk away. I arrived at Colony Club and the smell inside was fantastic, little bit of cognitive dissonance to see the full bar behind the coffee setup but I've no problem with that. Lots of people were sitting at the bar area, tables, comfy seating etc. working. I kind of wished that I had brought my laptop so I could be one of them. I ordered a coffee with one of their Ethiopian varieties and a scone. I ate almost the entire scone while I waited for my coffee, and I usually leave half my pastry as a rule. It was THAT good, really. The coffee was pretty darn good too. Wish I had been in the area a little more time, I'd have been to Colony Club more than once! read more

First, this place is beautifully designed and looks like the best coffee shop on this part of Georgia ave. Second, it turns into a bar at night too. Third, they have ping pong!! They have regular coffee for $2.50, flash brewed coffee for $3, lattes for $4.25, chai for $3.75 and lots more. Breakfast food available includes pastries, yogurt, quiche and so on. Happy hour is 5-7 .. $5 drafts, $7 wine. They serve food too. I don't think there are many cheap drink options though. I'm thrilled that colony club opened up in the neighborhood and hope it enjoys a lot of success here. read more

*enters front door with whimsically written "Colony* The first sounds I hear: espresso machine going strong, subtle chatter and keyboard typing, and one of my favorite Camera Obscura songs immediately followed by The Shins and some lo-fi. Colony Club: if you're trying to seduce me this quickly, you've done it. Upon entering, you will notice how narrow the space is. To the left center is a full espresso/coffee bar along with beer and wine. There is a variety of snacks: cookies, scones, biscuits, rugelach, etc. The bacon cheddar biscuit was alright. I was hoping for flakier layers and a more apparent taste of both the bacon and the cheddar. The prices are interestingly priced (e.g. $3.68, $4.09) -- presumably because when it rings up, it'll come to a round number once tax has been calculated. I ordered an iced latte which was pretty good. Admittedly, for the price, I'm not sure if it was the best value. At the same time, much of the reason these higher end coffee bars cost a lot is because you're sometimes paying more for ambiance than the actual grade of the product. Nevertheless, I'm not complaining. Why? Because besides the fact that this is a cute and cool space to hang, you can definitely find a seat to work, read, lounge, etc. There are many stools in the back towards the patio (which is currently under construction it seems), some sofas, and several desk-like work stations in the front. The interior design is pretty simple, but very tasteful: photographs of everyday life, French and modernist accoutrement, round lighting fixtures, a mixture of dark and light woods, clean walls, custom and exposed brick (blue and white). The customers are a motley crew: students, quirky hipsters (a rarity in the District), stuffy bureaucrats (I mean, you gotta have a couple scattered here and there -- this is DC after all), young fathers with "dad bods" and their kids, and a handful of artistic types. Colony Club is pretty new so there's still some works-in-progress areas happening throughout the space. I suspect in the next month everything will be fully functioning and all-the-more gorgeous. If its goal is to embody a nouveau old-school vibe in a historic neighborhood with ping pong, coffee, and booze, then Colony Club is well on its way. As I finish this review, they're playing Belle & Sebastian's "Another Sunny Day." Stop it already, Colony Club! Your soundtrack and vibe is giving me all the feels. read more

This is the cool bar from that indie flick... Ya know? Where the girl and guy are having that deep conversation and they realize that the thing that connects them is that they are both lost. In the background, some bizarre music from the middle east plays. Hipsters revel in their ostensible coolness, but none of them are obnoxious, just chill. Clean, cool and relaxing. Then the girl and guy gaze into each other's eyes. The music changes to some fast paced African-type music like Antibalas. They stare at each other too long. They go home separately and stare at their respective ceilings, lamenting their hesitation, indecision and lack of action. Ya know...its that kind of bar. read more

They crafted their latte extremely well, filling it to the brim with coffee that was just the right temperature. And their free wifi doesn't suck! They could use a few more plugs though. I was really excited for this place to open, I'm partial to Ceremony and matte black GB5s. Its nice, but really generically nice. Its basically the Herschel backpack of coffee shops*. My first visit on their second day open, espresso was ok, aeropress of Wazzala was really good. My last visit the coffee was just 'meh', if I consider it through my general population lens, and 'watery and under extracted' if I'm being an honest coffee nerd. All in all, this place seems to be more about its pseudo-whimsical Wes Anderson aesthetic than substance. **It would be unfair not to mention that more than 50% of the customers I've seen here have actually been carrying Herschel bags, so I guess they know their target market. read more

This spot isn't the closest shop to my apartment, but I will gladly deny my absurd laziness and head here for coffee because it is that great. The espresso quality I've had here has been top notch. They use the Mass Appeal from Ceremony, and so far I've had excellent quality espresso drinks. I had an aeropress of the new DRC and that shit was bomb dot com! It made me giddy like a school girl! It was like when Goku powers up in Dragonball Z or when Serena initiates her moon star power in Sailor Moon. I hope they didn't lace the beans with anything... I do wish they had more savory food options during the day. I am not much of a pastry person. I haven't taken advantage of the Ping Pong table as I suck at it and don't want to get kicked out for having a temper tantrum or embarrassing myself in front of potential tinder dates. The happy hour is pretty good. I think its discounted beer and wine? I don't drink beer and can't remember what they told me, that might be due to excessive amounts of mescal consumed on an empty stomach, but I'll let my forgetfulness slide this time. I tried one of the cans of sardines and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious those lil guys are. I will definitely go back and get adventurous with some other sea dwellers. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming! They have wifi, which I don't care much about because I don't need wifi to use dating apps or take selfies. They provide a nice little selection of books, which is still a really nice gesture for people who don't live on their cell phones and laptops and like to live life like it's 1997. The place looks really cool and they serve decent coffee. Didn't get to try the bar. However, during cafe hours on a weekend, having the music so loud everyone has to shout over it is ridiculous. It's not a bar at that point, so we were really put off by the absurd noise level. Couldn't think or concentrate or even chat without yelling. Their playlist combined with relaxing atmosphere on top of their delicious coffee beverages is a joy. Also A+ wifi. Well done. I like their flash brewed coffee and chai teas. I'd guess the regular coffee is good too. At night, Colony Club shifts into bar gear. Everyone here has the roundest, hippest glasses in DC. Sometimes they offer $9 pitchers on special nights, but in general their prices are fairly standard. The back patio is great and provides plenty of seating for larger groups. The staff is really nice and seem to actually be happy to work here. Overall, a treat and a half. read more

Could this be the revitalization of the mid-corridor of Georgia? The coffee are solid and meticulously prepared. The pastries are sourced for a bakery and they are great. Would be even better if they can be warmed. The atmosphere is fairly hipster (but less so than The Coffee Bar). It's very bright and much more relaxing. The staff are very friendly. During their soft opening over the weekend, Max, one of the owners of the coffee shop, talked about his family' roots in the district. The name of the coffee shop is an homage to his grandmother's flower shop, which was located next to the famed Colony Theatre on Georgia Ave NW (and Farragut St) back in the 1920s. If you are in the neighborhood, definitely try out the place, especially if you want it to thrive and attract more businesses to Georgia Ave. Colony is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

The Colony Club is charming, quaint, and decidedly hipster. The choice of the word "colony" is appropriate, as it is a little hipster colony in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. The exposed brick wall, wood tables adorned with succulents, and millennials with MacBooks create a milieu reminiscent of Oakland or Brooklyn. There is a ping pong table upstairs which is a ton of fun, and the coffee drinks are excellent. There is jazz once a week, and while I haven't been yet, I'm looking forwards to going soon! Any place that has coffee, bourbon, ping pong, and a patio is basically my idea of heaven. And in this case, my heaven happens to be conveniently located on Georgia Avenue. I was last at Colony Club on a Friday night at an event they hosted on their patio, and it was busy, but the staff seemed to handle the crowd well. We spent most of the evening upstairs in their ping pong lounge, which is kind of like hanging out in your high school best friend's attic, but way cooler and with a better music playlist. They have a great small menu of bar snacks - olives, marcona almonds, cheese and meat plates, and tinned seafood all make the cut. For the coffee crowd in the mornings, they have a limited assortment of baked goods and a few varieties of quiche. This is a really great spot for a laid-back hangout, either in the mornings over coffee or in the afternoon/evening for a beer/glass of wine, table tennis, and some snacks. Really wishing Colony Club could be reincarnated in Minneapolis! read more

Umm I am in LOVE!! Where did this coffee shop come from? This is up the block from mi casa. It's nice to have a little neighborhood coffee shop. The moment you enter you vibe the indie pop music playing in the background. As you look around the white brick walls, industrial lighting, and succulent accents transforms you into a whole new world. So disappointed. This was my first time ordering from Sonny's and it will be my last. My fiancé ordered a pizza while we were at Hook Hall for delivery via DoorDash and when it arrived we agreed that the taste was totally off, it tasted acrid and sour. I'm not sure if the spinach was bad or it was because the bottom of the pizza was completely burned black. It was inedible and a total waste of money. Very disappointing! I met my friend here who is from the area and really into coffee. He swears by it. I am personally not a huge coffee drinker, and I ended up getting just an iced coffee. It was really good! Also reasonably priced compared to other fancy yet local coffee places I've been. I really wanted another but decided I didn't need the caffeine. It was very crowded when we went (it was a weekend early afternoon) and so the only seating available was upstairs.
