The food is decent, but I don't think it's worth the prices they're charging. It feels like this café has taken advantage of being one of the few breakfast and coffee spots in the area. The atmosphere is nice and the establishment itself is well maintained, but the menu is significantly overpriced. This is a nice cafe coffeehouse blocks away from a major Howard University dormitory building. My daughter and I decided to try something here as she is a regular customer with her friends. We were on the way to the airport and we had not had the chance to eat all morning. I ordered the Unido Burger and a Vanilla Latte. My daughter's breakfast sandwich came out with an exorbitant amount of the sauce on it, and that is not as it was ordered. She took some time to wipe off the sauce because we didn't have time for them to make another one. She went ahead and ate as much as she could've, but it was not ideal. I just think that what if she was allergic to something or could not have the ingredients she asked to not be on the sandwich???....scary. Amazing place for coffee, food, and remote working! I had an iced lavender latte and the pork belly burger and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of both. The latte was perfectly rich with a great lavender taste that wasn't too subtle or too overpowering. It was also just the right sweetness for me. The pork belly burger comes with your choice of fries, yuca fries, or salad. The fries were delicately crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside, and were well seasoned. I also really liked the ketchup that came with it, which was less sweet than a typical ketchup and had almost a salsa-esque taste. The burger was delicious - I loved that the pulled pork had a slight crispiness which gave it an almost bacon-like texture and taste, and the combination of the pork with the pickles and slaw was so good. They only allow laptops at the bar and window, but they do have ample seating/table space at both areas so I don't think it would be too much trouble to find a spot (although it might be a bit cramped if every single spot was filled). Besides that, they have other tables and booths for people just trying to enjoy their coffee or meal. Seeing as to how highly rated this coffee shop was, I had to swing by, and am so glad I did!! It's tucked away in a cozy little nook inside La Cosecha in Union Market. This iced vanilla bean latte was one of the BEST vanilla lattes I've had in the DMV (and I've had copious amounts), and I absolutely loved this. The vanilla bean flavor is subtle and not overwhelming, adding just the right amount of sweetness to the ratio of milk and espresso, which was unbelievably smooth and the perfect level of light creaminess. The space is small, but there's also seating outside as well. Staff were not the friendliest I'll say, but the coffee makes up for it. I was excited to see that Unido opened a second location. They have excellent coffee and make one of the best lattes in the city. Service is always friendly and on my recent brunch visit, it was fairly lively. I'm partial to their vanilla latte, which I usually drink hot, which is rare for me. Their croissants are good. I believe that they do not start serving their food menu until 9, so if you go before that, you are limited to the bakery case. I recently went for brunch. I really, really enjoyed their Geisha Martini, which is an espresso martini. I want to try their Coffee Megroni next. I got the chicken tamale empanadas and carimanolas. I love a cornmeal crust empanada and these were delicious. I enjoyed the carimanolas too. My friend loved his burger. I've been to the Unido stall at La Cosecha and thoroughly enjoyed the espresso, a really solid espresso program, and was in the area, so decided to try their Shaw location. Today, I decided to try something different. I asked the barista for the pour over menu, and saw a Geisha option that suited me. The price is definitely high ($14 for a pour over). They were out of my original choice, so went with the Abu Geisha instead. A great coffee, but the price turns you off quickly. I'll be back for an espresso before/after Whole Foods, and it's definitely a great coffee shop to relax in (the no-laptop areas are absolutely perfect!), but the coffee scene in DC isn't New York, and New York prices are next to impossible to accept in DC. read more

After a couple visits to this cafe, I am a true fan now. Not only does it feel welcoming despite its spaciousness, it is a comfortable place to hang out and work or grab a meal and chat. I have come to get a drink, eat a quick bite, and sit down for a full meal. The service is so kind and accommodating; I have asked many questions and been met with really helpful answers and suggestions about the menu choices. I thought I was going to be devoted entirely to the orange raspadura latte, but trying the hibiscus lemongrass tea was a complete game-changer, it is unlike any drink I've ever had, so punchy from the lime but sweet and rounded out. Trying the geisha coffees was so fun because we got to hear about the origins of the coffee and try the unwashed and natural beans to taste the difference. Among a group of four, we ordered five dishes to share at brunch and it was perfect for us based on the various sizes. The star of the meal was definitely the Panasian rice, which had the most amazing crispy texture and it was full of flavor. I loved the chewiness and it was perfect to keep on my plate to eat a bite in between all the other dishes. The eggs Benedict does not come with any meat but it is delicious nonetheless with the fried yucca and nicely dressed arugula. Perhaps the salad serving and amount of yucca could be increased so the dish is more filling as a main. These deviled eggs were the fanciest deviled eggs I've ever had ! And what a journey they are, with huge lump of crispy fried crab and bits of trout roe that pop in your mouth and mingle with the creamy seasoned egg yolk. The steak and eggs were wonderfully done, the steak is cooked in the jus so it is super tender and holds onto the flavorful garlicky citrus sauce. The pancakes are a shareable size for sure; the stack of three was delectable, you definitely appreciate the texture that is soft but doesn't fall apart and the delicious coffee syrup. Can't wait to come back. My lunchtime visits to try the burger and pork belly sandwich have also been great!!! The pork belly sandwich is more satisfying in my opinion.
